So I'm in downtown Seattle for a conference, and wanted a blowout to ease the hair issues while getting ready in the morning. After lots of research (and mild obsessing), I found Swink Style Bar. I was hesitant on trying out Swing due to some of the reviews I saw, and actually, if other places would have fit me into their schedule, I wouldn't have ventured to Swink, but I am so glad that I did. Swink was walking distance to my hotel, the Sheraton, and was easy to find. I had an appointment, first thing, 9am on Thursday morning. I was pleasantly greeted and sat for only a moment when my stylist came out and took me back. We talked about my hair, what I was going for, and moved on to the wash. My stylist used Aveda products on my hair (my preference), and did a great job of washing with an almost therapeutic approach. She used the stress oil from Aveda on my temples and made the experience very relaxing. My only issue, well, not an issue, but sort of weird noticeable was that they dry your hair with a paper drying cloth. I guess this is good for the environment but I would have much rather had a regular cushy towel for drying my hair. Not a deal breaker, but just something I noticed to be odd for me. I have long, thick hair, so a blowout can be a nightmare, or can be fabulous, and this one was fabulous! She blew my hair out by sections, set it, and then styled in the end for long curls that lasted for two extra days. I really cannot ask for better than that. I would have liked for the Style Bar to be open earlier like so many other larger cities that have blow out bars; an earlier open time accomodates the working gals who may want their blow out before work. Not as cool and hip as I remembered it being. The chair I sat in still had hairs in it from the last appointment and it would be nice if they offered a beverage with the service. The plus side is I got there about 15 minutes early and my stylist was able to get started on my hair right away. I just got a style this time because though I was signed up for a blowout and style, my stylist said my hair looked fine enough to style. So after some spritzes of dry shampoo she proceeded to flat iron curl my hair. After 15 minutes in the chair, my hair was curled and looking good, and I was ready to peace out. It would've been nice if the stylist seemed more interested in doing my hair. She didn't offer any input on the style or finishing touches. I did ask her to fix something, which she gladly did. I'll probably return, but would be interested in seeing another stylist. read more

Swink, your customer service could really use an uplift. I arrived at 2:05 for my 2:15 appointment (hair and lashes) and checked in with the first girl I made eye contact with. She told me to have a seat, and my hair stylist "would be right out", despite the very busy salon. A bunch of employees were crowded around the desk looking at the computer gabbing while I saw 2 girls wait patiently to be checked out after their services for at least 5 minutes. Umm, ignoring your clients, much? 2:15 comes and goes, as does 2:30 without so much as a nod from anyone telling me why I haven't started yet. At about 2:40 I'm asked if I would like anything to drink (wow, what an afterthought) and told I would actually be getting my lashes done first. Over half an hour late, I get taken over to the lash station. The girl is uninterested in my want of her opinion (I've never had temp lashes before and wanted to know what might look good for my given event and dress etc). She says that, well, these ones are more subtle, and these ones are not. Helpful. I go with the "not so subtle", which I felt a bit pressured into. She says we can trim them after application if I think they're too much, but then when I'm all glued, she kind of just said thanks and left. Finally, onto the hair. Megan was great. We talked about what I wanted in context of my long backless gown and what features I would accent. Love, love, love how my hair came out! If I have another occasion to pretty up, I will definitely go back to see her. The price was reasonable and she was such a nice person to talk to. Also, the 'do stayed all night. However, my checkout process was similarly awkward to what I witnessed on the way in. Although the salon had died down a lot over the nearly 2 hours I was there, I didn't feel like there was any incentive to have me pay my bill. I had a date to get to, people! Overall, I was thrilled with my hair, and not really with anything else. No cuts. No color. Just blowouts! Finally a blow dry bar in Seattle. I heard about Swink Style Bar when it opened a couple of months after my son was born in Sept 2009, but never had the opportunity to make it in for an appointment until this past summer! (I sacrificed a lot of my personal services while caring for my son in his first year and hair was one of them!) Seattle has never had a blow dry bar until now. I've gone to several salons only wanting this specific service so often times, the salon staff would frown, asking if I also needed a cut, or color, or anything else. This is the place to go for a quick but thorough wash, blow, style or makeup application before a date or special occasion, or just to treat yourself. A little gem of a studio in Downtown Seattle with a clean, modern, fresh and airy interior. There are only 4 chairs, so it maintains a good flow of clients coming in and out. The white and pink color scheme is what I want my future 'mom cave' too look and feel like! I've gone in for "The G&T" and "Belle de Jour" and have been happy with my experience and service each time. The stylists are friendly, skilled, professional, hip and fun and it always feels like you're chatting it up with a girlfriend while she does your hair. Because I have thick, naturally wavy and coarse hair and a lot of it, I love nothing more than having it washed, conditioned, scalp massaged and fully blown-out by someone else. I was expecting something at least slightly high end. This is very not high end. Alex did a good job blowing out my hair, but during the shampoo and rinse, though I repeatedly requested that she make sure to aim the water directly at the base of my skull to get the soap/conditioner out of my hair, she just refused. It was super annoying! It's so important to pay attention to your customer's requests and to respond to their wishes, especially when it's something so basic. The salon appeared somewhat dirty and the front desk gal started mopping with some kind of powerful cleaning agent while Alex was finishing up. I had to request that she stop as it was making me feel ill. Lots of potential here! Perhaps a buyout by someone with a great vision and eye for glamour and customer service? read more

I LOVE YOU SWINK STYLE BAR! I showed up at 2:15 p.m. (I was running late and missed the first 15 mins of my appt) Came here the day of my brother's wedding and had my hair and makeup done. I'm really bad with names but the gal that curled my hair did it so quick I was done with my hair in 15 minutes. Loved how she had my hair curled, styled, and had it stay put for the entire night. Next, MAKEUP! Again, bad with names so I don't remember who did my makeup but she did such an awesome job. From bronzing me into a tan babe to giving me longer lashes. I couldn't have asked for anything better. $30.00 for hair $30 for makeup $10 for fake lashes Seriously the best $70 I've spent and they had me out of there in 45 minutes I like that this place is a no cut, no color, just styling salon. I hate to do this... But this is entirely based on customer service. The services I got there in the past were awesome. I had been looking for a new lash place, and was beyond excited at the awesome job these ladies have done. However I had an appointment for lashes last Friday and the lady I was booked with was out sick. Which happens, I'm understanding. However they would not accommodate me that day with another stylist, that weekend, or even for over two weeks. They offered me an apology but zero solution. As someone who works in the same industry, having to cancel an appointment the day of without options for rescheduling is appalling. Bummer, because I thought I found my new lash place. read more

I have never had my hair professionally blown out and was excited to get it done. Moira did a wonderful job and my hair looked natural and great. I also had my eyelashes done and would highly recommend getting them done here. I had mine done at another place and they put too much glue on my eyelashes and they didnt look very good compared to what Moira did for me. After she did them they looked natural and I didnt feel the glue at all. read more

I love the updo I got from the salon!! I flew in from SF to Seattle for a friend's wedding and make an appointment for a hair and make up. The updo in particular was outstanding. I've gotten a number of updos before but this one was particularly thoughtful, romantic and fits my head shape so well. The updos stayed on for more than 10 hour even with lots of dancing and jumping around! I LOVE the rose within the updo. Horrific. Terrible wash; was left soaking wet from the neck down to the back of my jeans. Then the stylist put some type of product in my hair that made it impossible to round brush or even comb for that matter. Sat through a very painful blow dry to get completely straight hair with no body whatsoever. She then had to use the curling iron to get the curls that I requested initially. I get very frequent blowouts and I would never recommend this salon to anyone. read more

They were nice despite all of us girls crowding the place and snacking so we could make it through the crazy day. My hair lasted all day and well into the night. My make up looked great too. Horrible customer service. Receptionist misquoted amount for service and then put the wrong service in the computer. Service was rushed because I was told they had no one to do what I was initially scheduled for that day. Jenny was awesome!!! I went in this morning, Saturday before comicon which is a really busy weekend in Seattle and because of a cancellation I was able to get in right away to see Jenny. The receptionist was great I originally couldn't get in before 10:45 but she called me immediately about the cancellation and I got in at 9:15. Jenny asked me how I did my hair and what I wanted and wow she did an amazing job! My hair has never looked this good, I didn't even think it could hold a curl and not only does it she did it with just a round brush! Lazy, careless, rude.... On 9/15/21 I had an appointment for voluminous hair blow out with curls for bridal photo session. I was 15 min early for my appointment and my hair was washed at the salon. I showed pictures and explained what I wanted, instead, the stylist teased my hair at the roots because she was too lazy to use a round brush to give volume to the roots and .... in the end my hair end up looking like I had a dry hay nest on my head and "curls" looked messy, uneven, with knots. All of this was done despite me asking her not to do so. I still tipped everyone at least 20%, tried really hard not to cry in front of them and had my bridal photos takes 2 hrs later - and hair looked very bad on all the photos. So now, I am redoing my bridal photoshoot because she ruined my hair, simply because of her laziness and not listening to what the client wanted. i do not recommend this salon. awful service! I was looking for a blowout salon for other occasions in future and was going to become a lifelong client if they would have done at least half of a decent job. I was in town for a wedding and needed to something with my short hair that was above just brushing it out. I'm in the terrible grow out phase of an almost pixie cut, so my choices are limited. I had a simple request, don't make me look like a soccer mom, over 40, or like a mushroom top. It's hard when past blow out attempts at home makes me look like I have a red football helmet on or some horrible version of the Dutch Boy paint character. I was a bit nervous and had low expectations. Swink came to my rescue though and my stylist blew out my hair, made it sleek and stylish and it kept the style all day. I had my appt at 10 am for a 6 pm wedding ceremony - I was pushing it in the maintenance department, but it survived! Decent prices, cute little salon and super friendly. Best customer service in town. I booked a blowout and makeup appointment back to back in preparation for a same-day boudoir, and I arrived just a few minutes ahead of time. Just before climbing into the stylist's chair for this nerve-wracking, yet exciting day of events, my photographer called and canceled my appointment. Yep, two hours before my shoot. Given that preparing for a boudoir shoot isn't just like your standard photo shoot, I was devestated all my preparations (e.g., weight loss, bikini wax, eyebrow wax, mani/pedi, confidence pep talks, and soon-to-be Swink experience) was all tossed down the drain with a single phone call. I nearly burst into tears in front of the Swink stylist and receptionist, so embarrassed to ask for a last-minute cancelation. I felt awful throwing a wrench in their morning the way my photographer had thrown one into mine. Though, the girls empathized with my situation and graciously offered to reschedule my appointment--completely going against their requested 24-hour cancellation policy out of the kindness of their hearts. Because of their top-notch customer service alone, I wouldn't think to book anywhere else. I love a business that knows how to take care of it's customers, and I have no trouble supporting them in return. My stylist sent me on my way with a bit of helpful homework: Pin a few favorite hair and makeup ideas between now and my next appointment, and she'll do me up for my big day. My 30th birthday was NYE this year, and I came to Seattle to celebrate. I chose to get my hair & makeup done here just based on reading reviews, and I'm so glad I did! I got makeup, lashes and hair done for only $90 and it all looked amazing! I was also able to book an appointment later in the afternoon on what must be a busy day of the year. I got treated to a blow out service here last Friday and had an okay experience. My first impression wasn't great. The woman who was at the desk was on the phone and gave me an impatient one finger (like "hang on") but did so without a smile. She wasn't that friendly all in all but wasn't exactly rude either. Either way, I thought a place that was so nice would have better client relations. In any case, the girl I got (can't remember her name) gave me a fabulous blowout which lasted all night. I got the "Girly and Tousled" which was basically waves and volume. One weird thing is they don't have pictures for you to look at - just a book of "illustrations" in 5 different styles. Would have loved to see some real examples of models who had gotten those styles. Also, the girl who styled my hair was not all together friendly either. She did offer me a magazine and a drink but didn't speak much, even when I tried to make some general conversation. Could have been an off day but I wasn't impressed. I think I would like to try another location or another blow dry bar before coming back. Oh, also it was raining but the girls did not offer any alternatives (I've been to other bars that help you pin up your hair so the curl holds) It was a-ok, nothing great, nothing to write home about. read more

My experience with Swink was good, but not totally amazing. They did a lovely job on my (megathick) hair, but the stylist seemed annoyed at me that I hadn't booked a longer time slot. (I had specifically told the receptionist that I have a ton of hair and that it might take longer to style, and she said she could only book half-hour hair slots. Hmph.) I loved the hair end result, and the makeup was fine but not amazing. I also was a little bummed that they weren't down with using my own products instead of their house brand -- both for allergy reasons and just cuz I'm picky since I'm a tough color match. And whaddaya know, the house foundation and stuff she used was way darker than my skin tone. Oh well! They apparently also do lash extensions, and I will say, the gal who did me had PHENOMENAL lashes. So if I wanted that service I'd go back to them for sure. Swink was able to squeeze in my appointment kinda late and then change the time w/o too much craziness, even on a busy Saturday. So that was nice! It was overall quite nice, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for anything that's a HUGE DEAL like wedding or prom or what have you unless you can afford to go once for a trial and once for the final thing. Better for more casual stuff (like if your'e the bridesmaid but not the bride). read more

Swink made my hair look completely amazing in only 45 minutes. My headshots turned out amazing and my hair has held a pretty, gentle curl for the past two days. Service was great- the receptionist is a total sweetheart, she was super nice to me when I showed up 30 minutes early because I put the appointment in my calendar wrong (whoops). I think the price ($40+tip) should equal more of the perks other blow dry bars have, like champagne, mimosas, cookies, soft towel instead of a cape, maybe a brief shoulder massage? There's definitely some room for improvement there that would create a better customer experience and help me justify the expense more often. Heads up, the location isn't great if you're driving. Bypass the nearby parking lot and go into the deck one block over. The parking lot wanted $10 for the day, couldn't pay by the hour, and the deck was only $6. If you're not far, it's probably easier to Lyft/Uber so you don't have to deal with traffic and parking. read more

I went in to Swink to get some hair tinsel and a blowout. I guess maybe I had set my expectations too high. I was offered 3 colors of tinsel, I told the stylist that I wanted it to be really dramatic for the holidays and I ended up going home with 4 pieces of tinsel the same color as my hair. The shampoo and blowout itself was ok, even though it wasn't really what I asked for. I don't really know if I'll be back here again. I really feel like I could have done a better job doing it myself, which does not warrant a $45 price tag. read more

A great concept, affordably priced, and convenient for those times when you need some professional-quality polish. Seattle's been jonesing for a place like this. I came in on a Saturday for a dry style, which is one of the a la carte options they offer. Come in with clean dry hair and choose between several basic styles. I chose the "Knockout," which was a half-up, half-down 'do with a teased little poof up top. I arrived early, but since they were busy (as Saturdays usually are), I did not get seated until my reserved time, which was fine. After a quick consultation (I requested a slightly retro Mad Men-ish version, which required that the style appear more "done") she got cracking with the vibrating flat iron, which creates perfect loose ringlets in seconds. Amazing. Then, she teased it to create the poof and secured it with a rubber band and bobby pins. The basic do was not exactly what I had in mind, but the stylist took my suggestions and tweaked it accordingly. However, she kinda rushed through it. I was told the style would take 35 to 45 minutes; it was finished in 15. I think she was tired. A few times she accidentally brushed up against the poof she created, which messed it up, something she didn't even notice. I almost had her take the poof down and do it over, but I felt bad because I sensed she was fading. (She'd been working since 9am nonstop, she said, and it was 5:30). The hairstyle looked fine, but the curls started sagging almost immediately, even though I had her redo the ringlets in front and spray it a little more than she wanted. If she had taken more time with the iron, the heat would have helped the curls stay. Overall, I was pleased and will definitely come back, but I'd like to see them staff up a bit more (especially on Saturdays). read more

Overall, good experience. If there was a 3.5 stars i would give that! The staff were very friendly and easy to talk to. However, I was getting hair and makeup for engagement pictures that day and I guess I was just nervous. I should've been more assertive and asked for a shampoo and conditioning that was supposed to come with the blowout. It was my first time having a blowout, and it made my hair look great. Also, the girl helping me was awesome and did a nice job styling it. My make up came out well and I felt confident. The only thing that might prevent me from coming back was the fact that I spent bout $115-120 for hair and make up that lasted for less than a day. :( I'm a teacher so that is NOT within normal budget! read more

I was a bridesmaids in a wedding this past weekend and I wasn't thrilled with the hair/makeup artists the bride had hired. I'm so glad I listened to my instincts and booked an appointment with Cheyenne at Swink. Cheyenne made me look amazing, the makeup was natural but glamorous and lasted from 11am until I washed it off at 4am - I had to touch up my lipstick but no shine and the eye-makeup didn't run even thru joyous tears! My hair was fabulous and also stayed thru hours of photos, the ceremony and dancing - which wasn't the case for the other girls who had their hair done elsewhere. I can't recommend Swink enough! Swink came highly recommended to me by 2 close friends and I'm so glad I listened to their advice. read more

I went here with 3 other girls. Two of us walked out looking great, the other two were disappointed with our styles and figured we could have done it better ourselves. But as every woman knows, we can't have a good hair day everyday. The fact that we weren't terribly pleased with our styles was NOT the worst part of the experience. The two stylists were SO rude and deadpan! I've had snotty hairstylists several times before, but these two took the cake. I would not have killed them to smile, make a little conversation, and at least TRY to appear like they weren't seconds from suicide. Despite this, I WOULD recommend Swink, but I would also advise mentally preparing for the awkwardness of the whole experience. If you can grin and bear the girls' bad attitudes, go for it! read more

I have been going to this place for about 4 years. I have seen a revolving door or stylists that have come and go. Some are OK, some are great and those usually leave quickly. They recently started changing front desk staff and I just don't feel like this business truly values me as a customer. I showed up 5 min early and when I called to see if that was ok, I was put on hold for about 10 minutes, during that time I started walking to the place and when I showed up, I told the receptionist. "I just called to see if I can come early, but you put me on hold, so I decided to walk here" then she responded "oh yeah, you are actually still on hold. I have been super busy. I have many things to do..." Ok totally cool, but a bit of a snarky response to give to a customer if you asked me. The lady that did my hair (KATHRYN) was so dismissive, she made me wait for her while she sat down and checked her phone (sat down on the only chair they have in the reception, while I stood trying to figure out where to wait for her btw). She also did a HORRIBLE JOB and blamed my hair for it "Your hair won't go any smoother, you have really ethnic hair she said" -When I left, I asked to speak w/ the manager (Ashley) but she was doing a service. I asked the receptionist to ask her to give me a call when she was done (4 days later I am still waiting for this call). I asked her not to charge my cc until I settled this w/ Ashley, she did, and she also charged 25% unauthorized tip on top of that- WHAT? I get you to have new staff, but there should be some sort of "customer service manual". You don't tell your customer you are not able to service them because you have a lot of other things to do, and you certainly don't tell your customer it is THEIR FAULT you cannot make their hair any smoother and they have to leave the place looking like a poodle. read more

I had an event to go to,and decided to get my makeup done here because a friend had found this place and it was by far the cheapest place for makeup around. While I was watching my friend get her makeup done, I realized I wanted a drystyle too and talked to the receptionist about adding that on. Instead of setting up a completely new appointment, he said the stylist could fit me in, and they'd charge me a little less than usual price. I was ecstatic. Tiara did my hair and makeup and she was fantastic! I've never been so happy with makeup before and I'm thinking about scheduling a lesson with her, so I can recreate it when I can't travel all the way to Seattle. She also was able to curl my very fine hair and it was gorgeous! The next day I stopped in to ask what iron she used, and she answered my question and seemed happy to help (even though I was taking up some of her break). The makeup lasted all night long, and looked just as good after the event as when I left the salon. My hair was still pretty curled the next day too, a thing I thought was impossible since it's so fine. Honestly I loved everything about Swink and Tiara. I just wish they had a way to schedule with a specific stylist/artist. I have another event this coming weekend, and I would love to have Tiara do my hair and makeup again. :) read more

This is my 2nd time here and both times my experience was lackluster. If you specialize in blow outs then I expect you to do a better job then I would at home. Tiana was rude from the get go. No actual greeting and she spoke the bare minimum but she made sure to have an attitude the entire time. Her body language and facial expressions were of someone that hates her job. I'm sorry but I drove 30 minutes to get to DTS and paid $15 dollars to park to get a frizzy blow out and a whole lot of funky attitude. When I asked if she was done at the end, she looked at me and told me "I could be done if you want me to be?" You will not get me a 3rd time! I'm out $60 bucks and need to redo my own hair for family portraits tomorrow. Tiana needs to learn how to leave her problems at home. Swink, I think I love you! I had been waiting for a *reasonably priced* blow-out bar to open up in Seattle and thought it was never going to happen. I abandoned the dream, only to realize a few months later that one had popped up. Of course I made it a mission to drop in. I have a massive mop of curly hair which I straighten frequently, but can never get that awesome volume and sleekness together. They succeeded in creating it, just as I'd hoped they would. This place is beyond fabulous! $30 for 30 minutes for hair (blow out or styled), $10 fake lash application, $15 for eye makeup and $30 for a full face? Steal of a deal! The quality is not lacking in any way, shape or form. These girls know their stuff! Not to mention the interior is darling and the location is extremely convenient! I had Kas style my hair for a fashion show and she had me done in 15 minutes and it looked exactley as I wanted it to. Not to mention it still looked amazing the next day. I also had one of the gals (Heather Maybe?) put on fake lashes and they looked really good as well. I am officially obsessed and have booked another appointment for next Friday just because.
