We had a group of 7 and our waitress, Sigi, handled our orders expertly. Everything we ordered was excellent and timed perfectly. She recommended the Christmas punch and espresso chai martini, which were creative and delicious. She explained the menu well and all the recommendations were spot On. I was excited to find out they offered a half portion of fondue and the best , gluten free bread I have ever had. We were all impressed by the excellent wine selection. They were out of Amarone and the Sommelier brought out a wonderful 2018 Barolo for the same price. We all agreed this was our favorite dining experience since being in Vail for the week. A cheerful atmosphere blended with Swiss + German influences and decor. This restaurant is located in Sonnenalp and boasts recognition from Wine Spectator for their expansive wine list. As a white wine lover, I greatly appreciated the waiter offering samples and information on each bottle, down to providing some information about the grapes. With great wine, a great pot of cheese fondue is offered at Swiss Chalet. The Alpler Fondue mit Krauter is supposedly portioned for one, but my partner and I felt like this was sharing sized. We also couldn't stop scraping the cheese pot with bread and fruits as it was so delicious! The Kirschwasser gave it a savory taste that made it irresistible to leave alone. My partner and I shared the Weiner Schnitzel and that dish was another generous portion that was really enjoyable! Will definitely return on our next trip to Vail and try more Swiss-German dishes! read more

Awesome dinner... it felt like we were actually in the Alps. We just returned from an awesome family vacation in and around Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. In Vail, CO, family friends met up with us, and we had a great time together over several days. They arrived in Vail before we did and had a bit of time to look for restaurants. When we got in they shared that they had found "just the place," and they were right... Swiss Chalet was great! The husband is from the US and the wife is from southern Germany. They have enjoyed traditional German and Swiss food on countless occasions, here and in Europe. Thanks to their scouting the restaurants, we enjoyed a great dinner of fondue, Swiss-style. Appetizer plates of meat and cheese and olives. Dinner of steak, vegetables, and cheese... that wonderful cheese that both melted, and if you left it on long enough, would turn nice and crunchy... amazing. And for dessert, melted chocolate on fruit and cakes / brownies. Everyone The meal was relaxed, with friends... an unhurried pace. The waiter was also from Texas, and provided some additional fun throughout the evening. The parents and kids all had a great time. Rude and very rushed! This restaurant allows you only an hour to eat you dinner and then they start taking away your food? Our starters and entrees were served at the same time? They started taking away our salads before finishing? They kept asking us if we were finished? The only thing Swiss about the hospitality was the timing. 15 min for starters 30 min for entree 15 min for desert? I realize we are in a trying time for restaurants and they need to maximize customers but this was really rude and frustrating! For a $500 dinner we expected a little common decency. Solid 4 star restaurant -- we enjoyed our food but it wasn't the best we've ever had in the area. Servers were super friendly and attentive. Schnitzel - the seasoning was nice but the cook on mine was a bit too overdone, so it was a bit tough to cut and chew. Pretzel - the three types of sauces that came with this were amazing -- loved the mustard and the beer cheese. Beef tartare - this one was just ok. Not a lot of flavor. Hazelnut fondue - this was the best! It's like dipping fruit in a pot of melted Nutella. It was fun and delicious. Cocktails that we got were all yummy and fairly strong. read more

My employer has hosted a couple of group dinners here. Each time they were delicious, fun events. Fondue and raclette are great group meals. Sharing melted cheese leads to conversation. So does the wine, which seems to flow freely. So freely, in fact, that I had to keep my hand over my glass to keep from getting tanked at a work event. But that just shows that the service is quite attentive, even with a large group. The raclette accompaniments are fancier than any other I've had. There's steak! The fondue is delicious as well. And the chocolate fondue dessert is delicious (especially the nutella one), though it's hard to find room after a meal of melted cheese. The owners of the restaurant own another location--in Europe. So if "authenticity" is what you're after, you'll get it here. Recommended if you're up for a spendy but delicious night in Vail. read more

We managed to eat here during our stay in Vail for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Breakfast (normally served at Ludwig's but closed for renovation) was very good. Nothing too fancy or unique, but if you enjoy standard breakfast fare, everything was really well done. Perfectly cooked and prepared and not at all greasy. Coffee was also delicious. Lunch (normally served at Bully Ranch but also closed for renovation) was delicious! The bully ranch burger was as good as ever. Don't skip the pretzel appetizer and definitely try it with the applesauce (sounded weird to me but so so good). Also had an excellent vegetarian burger. Dinner was the highlight. The Raclette Fondue was delicious with so much more bite than traditional fondue. Plenty of sides and accoutrements to make it a full meal. Could not even try desert because we were so full! The food, service and atmosphere were all top-notch. The restaurant was clean and decor was very cute. Denni was a very attentive, enthusiastic and pleasant server. We ordered the beef fondue, cheese fondue, wiener schnitzel, filet mignon and kids' spaghetti, all of which were all outstanding. Our entire party of 7 was really happy/impressed with our food. Pros: Cute interior design, and sat us on time for our reservation. Cons: Way overhyped. Food was way overpriced for the money they were charging and there was absolutely NO VENTILATION. It was very hot and uncomfortable and we heard multiple other customers complain the same. I mentioned this to the waitress and she said she'd find out if she could crack open a door, which never happened. Due to lack of ventilation or an overhead vent, my eyes burned the entire meal. I felt like there were many safety hazards in this restaurant. They plugged the grill into an outlet in between our table and the table next to us and 3 staff members tripped over it, causing the grill to slide towards me. Also, the tables were very close together and our table itself couldn't fit our plates for the 4 of us, so it was just not ideal at all. The restaurant overall felt like a breeding ground for COVID. Next, the waitress handed my brother a hot plate, while her hand was covered with a rag! It is very rare for me to feel this compelled to write a bad review as I am usually described as more patient than the average person. I do not recommend this place. read more

The restaurant smells like old nasty feet. I don't have a strong sense of smell but my wife and I nearly had to leave after walking in the front door because the smell was that bad. Luckily we were sat by an open door which helped a little. Definitely needs a ventilation system. Service was so-so. Had to ask for items repeatedly because our server forgot. We were in Vail for a short getaway for my husbands birthday. The Swiss Chalet was a great spot for dinner, come hungry! Superb service, very attentive and provided recommendations on the wine list. Then as a gift for hubby's birthday they brought out chocolate covered strawberries with a candle. Was super sweet. It's a pricey location but you are in Vail so no surprise there. This restaurant is confusing. The whole vibe was just off. I ordered an impossible burger with a gluten free bun. They initially messed up my order and had to take it back. Bringing it back, the bun was nearly rock solid & they forgot to put cheese on my burger. They were also skimpy on the fries. The price was outrageous for the food we received. We have been vacationing in vail for several years. We always enjoyed our visit to Swiss Chalet but this year was different. First, due to unforeseen circumstances we arrived at the restaurant about 45 minutes earlier than our reservation and although there were a few empty tables, the hostess refused to seat us claiming they were lots of other reservations ahead of us. We asked about a table for two that we saw at the front of the restaurant, but she said it was reserved for someone else. We left the restaurant and walked for 45 minutes . We returned 45 minutes later to see lots more tables and that table at the front of the restaurant was still available, and it appeared to have never been used at all. In fact we were seated at that table. I ordered the chicken. My husband ordered the veal. Both were awful. They tasted like they had been prepared the day before, and refried, making it very tough and very thick. The potato rosti , had absolutely no flavor; no taste. I complained to the waiter when we were all done and the table sitting next to us had similar complaints. We are crossing this restaurant off our list. The food at Swiss Chalet is on the scale of McDonalds. And that bologna about not seating us was disgusting, my husband is disabled. Never again. read more

We went with our family of 5 for an early dinner. The restaurant was quiet. My husband and I had been here years ago with friends and wanted to introduce our kids to it. This would be a 4/5 star review if we didn't experience what happened later. We ordered cocktails, a bottle of wine. Kids got Shirley Temples. We had appetizers, 2 different fondues. Extra apples. And dessert. Our waitress, we thought, was quite wonderful. However when my husband got the bill, our kids were tired and jet lagged 6:30 Vail time, 8:30 east coast time) so he thought the bill seemed high but hurriedly paid it. He realized the next morning our server added a 20% service charge into our check! The website clearly states it's for parties of 6 or more. My husband tipped 20% on the total, not realizing the service charge was on there. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed but felt uncomfortable calling the next day so we let it go so we could focus on enjoying the rest of our trip. Loved my experience here! The raclette fondue is amazing!! And very filling, at first it doesn't seem like much food but it is! We also ordered beef medallions and shrimp with the order- definitely recommend the beef especially because you get a decent portion and it's very good. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is very Swiss and charming - feels very homey. The dessert was good- chocolate fondue was tasty with the fruit but it is very small and the little cakes that come with are dry and not great. (Only bad thing all night) overall great experience!
