If u want to visit pre WWII dictatorship then this is ur place. Even if it's an RV park the owner manager is subject to tenant Illinois laws. He Is collecting a fee daily or monthly ! I understand that Rv life can be high end to trailer trash ! But give people that are visiting and paying some basic respect. After spending half a million on a RV do you want to be treated like a infant If ur not a local and don't want to drive to a state park or other Rv Park then this is for u. Charming, well kept, great location. My wife & I love this park. The price is very reasonable for what you get. We have the middle tiered slip for our 5th wheel. Water, sewer, 50amp. Really wide spots. Decent water pressure. The day we arrive, one of the owners escorts us to our slip. Literally the easiest time backing into a spot ever. He just says turn the wheel left/right, forward backward. Perfectly in the spot in 3 mins. I'm not even kidding. Saved me probably 20 mins of getting it just right. My wife and I love taking the doggo for a walk around the trail that circles the lakes. It's in l a small town west of Chicago. But there's so much here. I can ride my bike to the gym. Grocery store is less than 10 minutes. Bars and restaurants. read more

We absolutely love Sycamore RV Resort. We have been here twice now and always request a lake view spot. The beach was shallow enough for children, it's a basic beach with sea weed, fishies and sand with porta potties. There are two catch and release lakes if you should enjoy fishing. We walk our dogs all over, they love it. It is a very relaxing place for us and our two big dogs. Everyone we have come across is very friendly. We are only 50 minutes from home but it feels so removed and comfortable. read more

This is a well maintained RV park in an area where the price of property could entice owners to sell. The sites are level and adequate. It is the close to train service to downtown Chicago. When looking for a relaxing stay, I prefer to not sit at my picnic table or grill my dinner within 1-2 feet of my neighbors poop/sanitation tube. I also don't prefer my primary views to be tires and side walls of the other rv's. It is unbelievable to me how close these sites are. You will stay in a parking lot where you can walk to the ponds. It reads like an airplane: fit in as many as possible to make as much money as possible without considering the user experience. Except, different than airplanes as they are intended to get from point a to point b, not the final destination like this park. The ponds are beautiful and well maintained but the camper spots need reducing by 1/3-1/2. Avoid! A friend recommended Sycamore RV Resort because she felt like they "got away", camping, kayaking and fishing within driving distance of Chicago suburbs. We went after Labor Day to go apple picking nearby so we weren't able to partake in activities or amenities (if offered) as it was after the prime camping season. However, I had a hard time imagining this place as an escape. The entrance is not marked so you might want to use GPS to know you're coming upon the turn or you'll drive right past. You turn in between a couple businesses/restaurant and drive up a path past a few large silos. Nothing wrong there...just odd. I can understand why other reviews spoke negatively about the owners. We didn't meet the female owner but checked in with the man instead. He wasn't nasty or rude by any means, rather acted as if it was a hassle to check us in, get a bundle of wood, show us the campsite. Lots of sighs and a couple of "well my wife usually takes care of that but since she's not here...". Not a warm welcome. The campsites blended together into one large gravel parking lot with no trees or grass separating the sites. No room in between and ZERO ZERO ZERO privacy. The bathroom was clean but it's only one toilet and sink. Showers were also clean. They ask you to put a $10 deposit down to use a key card to access the inside of building with showers but otherwise showers are free. The kids took advantage of the sand volleyball court but when we asked the owner if they had a ball we could use, he sighed and said yes (as if we were bothering him again). We didn't ask him to deliver the damn thing...just if we could use it. :) The beach area (surrounded by chain link fenced but closed for season) was a good walk away from the RV sites. To get there you pass the only nice area of the campground (in my opinion) that had grass and tree coverage and, I believe, reserved for tents only. We continued on the path all the way around the lake/pond and that was a nice walk. I wouldn't return simply because this was not camping to me. It was a parking lot with nothing to do. And a parking lot is not "getting away". I gave 3 stars rather than 2 because it is clean and tidy. read more

Private businesses typically don't like when you wander around without registering, especially when there are posted signs, so I can understand why the owners get perturbed by that! We stayed here for a week due to a family emergency. It was a quiet, beautiful location with plenty of fish for us to go fishing. No complaints about the actual campground. However, the office does give mixed signals during this Covid stuff. We were required to pay a fee each tome one of our relatives showed up which sucked but oh well. Rules are rules. But. The way they all were treated was horrible during our time of need. Everytime someone from our family tried to pay, they would get mad at us and say we needed to square up at the office but no one was there at all. We literally couldn't pay even if we tried. The guy was quite rude Everytime we tried to pay which really really sucked since we really had no other options due to the emergency. Other than that I would recommend this place. Just make sure you understand the guy there is pretty intense and will make you feel bad for something you literally have no control over since nobody was ever in the office. So. Three stars, mixed feelings about this place. Beautiful, fun, well put together, but the guy seems very rude. read more

My large family and I, 6 adults, 5 kids, and a few dogs, just just got back from a trip to this campground. I was very impressed! It was super clean and very well maintained. There were a few things we were not able to access because of COVID, but that did not stop us from having a wonderful time. It actually made us slow down and not try to scramble to fit everything in. It was just perfect. Everyone had a great time, not one complaint from a single member! That hardly ever happens to when you travel with this many people. Typically, we like to vacation out of our own state and never really give Illinois a chance because we want to experience different places. We would absolutely go here again! We met several campers that visit yearly, and travel from very far away just to come to this campground. That was odd to me, considering I would never really choose to travel to Illinois to go camping, but now I see why they come and love it. Before we got here, we read some mixed reviews and were not sure what to expect. The staff was absolutely wonderful, very friendly and helpful!! Many people in my family, including myself, have a profession that lives and dies by reviews. Please remember, when someone has something they are upset about, they love to go online now and tell everyone how unhappy they are. There are very few that will actually go online and tell about a great experience. That is what exactly why I chose to write a review. Park is very clean, the Sites are nice, the lakes are beautiful but the road driving into the campground is riddled with potholes that'll make your camper sound and feel like it's breaking in two. The owner may have been having a bad week or he needs to retire - not friendly like you expect from campground owners/personnel. As previously mentioned, the street to the campground is in between 2 businesses and can easily be missed especially at night. We got there a little late 9ish due to work etc, it was past the owners time in the office and made a point to let us know. Husband owner took us to camp sites to set up and then dropped me off. Last time he was pleasant. From then on it was scowls and then a verbal fight with my son that came to visit since it was my bday. I had mentioned to wife that we would have an extra visitor and she didn't say anything about paying or having him stop up front - so he came right to the sight. My mistake was asking son to get some firewood from the office. It was third degree questioning at that point over a $2 fee for visiting not even using the amenities. Didn't sell him the firewood , came to campsite and got in husbands face and my son left. Would never camp here again or recommend it. And who wants to glamp in a parking lot of gravel? read more

We chose this RV resort for a shakedown trip to workout any issues that might arise with our new RV before we head to Arizona. It was located only an hour from our home. We discovered a few minor problems with our RV but we fixed those. Meantime, this is a very pleasant rv park. We were greeted as soon as we entered and we were escorted to our site. The gentlemen then helped guide me into site. That was especially nice because I'm a newbie and his words of guidance while backing in our new fifth wheel were greatly appreciated. He made the process seem very easy while giving me a few pointers along the way. The property is very nice and the site with full hook ups was very well kept. They have the typical RV rules with some up charges for guests but nothing unreasonable. Our RV neighbors were all really nice too except for one guy who felt it necessary to plaster his site with political signs. Most good RV parks discourage that and this park should do likewise. If I had any suggestions for this RV park, I would recommend that they improve their entry signage because, like us, everyone I talked to said they passed the entrance multiple times before realizing where to turn. Also, the entry road is "paved" but full of deep pot holes so be careful entering the park. Other than that, I recommend this place for a peaceful experience with everything you need nearby in either Sycamore or DeKalb. read more

The resort is nice if you don't mind camping your RV in a parking lot. The management is insulting and sarcastic. When we went to the beach, we were stopped upon entry and tagged, even though the management positively new we all paid to be there. Then we were questioned about the water in our cooler. He said, Are you sure there are no beers in that cooler?There is a page and a half and they endorse every stupid rule. Even pull up while your eating dinner to distract you from eating while they complain about the position of the way your car is parked. There is an infestation of picnic bugs that constantly swarm around you. When I asked the sarcastic guy about the bugs he acted stupid and pretended to not know what we were talking about. You have to pay $10 for a shower key deposit. Why? So the bottom line is that the park is nice but the management is intrusive and sarcastic.The person who rated this the top five RV Parks that she's ever been to must have gone to some real dumps. The park is nice, the beach is clean,but you come here to relax and not be harassed by a list of stupid rules and inconsiderate management that don't appreciate your business. We came for Memorial Day weekend the campground was well maintained and very clean that was a big plus other campers were respectful and nice they had nice fishing lakes the one thing that got this place 3 stars was each site had very little room in between campers I could hear campers conversations clear as day on either side of me the owners are not very good with people either you check in they show you your site I backed my camper up about a foot and a half from where the guy wanted it he came back to my site to make a point to say something not caring that the tung of my camper was in were cars park but all in all it was a pretty good place. read more

The was my first time at Sycamore RV Resort and probably my last. First of all you can't find the place, no signs on the main street telling you that you are in the right place. The main road into the park looks like you are driving down an alley full of potholes. Then there is a bunch of stop signs and a big sign saying NO TRESPASSING, with a bunch of rules on it. It look as if you are driving into a PRISON CAMP or AREA 51. (NOT very inviting) I walked into office and met (as one reviewer put it), Mr and Mrs Hitler (not their real names). The reviewer hit the nail on the head. These owners were the most unfriendly RV Park owners I have ever met and I've been to a lot of park in the last 10 years. First Mrs Hitler started in on me because I'm checking to early, she says you know check-in is 3 PM and I have to charge you for early check in. I said no one told us that when we made the reservations, to which she said "it's on the your Confirmation Sheet". Who reads the confirmation? I told her the Grand Kids were in a hurry to get to your wonderful park. I asked if I could park off to the side, out of the way until check in time. Her answer was "NO". When Mr Hilter comes back from checking to see if my site was empty, he told me it was. Mrs Hitler tells him in a nasty tone of voice that she told us that we have to a pay a half day for coming in early. People we were only two hours early, is that a crime, I guess it was to the Hitlers. Mr Hitler then said to me did you unhook your car, I said no, well GO DO THAT RIGHT NOW. Mr Hitler acted like I should have known to do that before coming into the office. Nasty man. This place has so many rules and regulations that it takes you a whole day to read them all. I'll will never go back and recommend that you pass on this one. The owners act like they are doing you a favor being there. read more

Very clean and well kept place. Bathrooms are separate from the showers (which needs a $10 refundable cash deposit) and are air conditioned and very clean. If you stay here on a busy weekend, be prepared to visit with your neighbors as the spaces are very close to each other. Owners were polite and lead you to your spot and guide you in. We are newer to the camping experience and found them to be helpful, though they clearly like things done their way. Since they have such a well kept place, I respect that. 3 stars for super close spots. read more

Besides being a beautiful park, this is as close as you can get to Chicagoland with a FHU RV park. I-88 to the city is nearby in DeKalb and the Metra is 20mins away in Elburn. If there was nothing else its location would make it worthwhile. This park features two small lakes, about a mile and a half around the two. Small boats are ok, fishing is catch and release. There is a big sandy beach on one lake with a buoy roped swim area. Also paddle-boats. The owners have resisted putting camp sites around the lakes, most would have, the walks around the lakes are clear and improved and very pretty, with picnic tables, and flowers. All the rv areas are level gravel with easy hookup to very convenient pedestals. All sites are back-in, end-to-end, but because the sites alternate, like a checker board, everyone has there own area. Each site has some shade, a picnic table, and fire ring. The lack of grass at the individual sites is more than covered by the acres of beautiful green lawns. Always mowed and ready for a barefoot walk, because everyone picks up after their dog. The park is too beautiful not to! The flowers and shrubbery are very professional. You'll find yourself just walking and asking, "What is this?" There is one walkway with different flowering shrubs on each side. All of this is kept clean, neat, and groomed every day. There are permanent trailers that are used on the weekends and summer vacations, not so many permanent residents. All are well kept, with no permanent artifacts outside. Weekdays are very quiet. There is no cable because Rockford and Chicago are very near. The Wi-Fi is by Tengointernet and free. Wi-Fi can slow down if the park is busy. The bathrooms and showers are all-in-one style and very clean and comfortable. The laundry seems pricey but note that the machines are front-loading commercial washers and dryers; fill them to the limits indicated. They do a good job. The owners, Dale and Anita, have their home here at the park. It is a lovely home and all the park and campers spread out before them. We are camping on their front yard. The owners are very proud of the park and work hard every day to keep their home clean and neat. To this end,there are rules. These rules ensure a clean, safe, and secure campground. All rules are printed on the welcoming brochure and there are none that I have not seen at other parks. This is like an oasis, with all the large, old trees surrounding the property you wouldn't know a city was nearby. But it is and you can walk to town. You will see Dale and Anita around all day because they live here too, and are your neighbors. We stay two months every year to make medical appointments and visit friends. We are full-timers now, but this area had been our home. We return yearly. read more

So, I read the reviews before going here, although, in the end we had few choices in the area (we were visiting Northern Illinois University). I think the lower reviews are a bit unfair. The owners want to keep their campground clean and nice, and with the camp so close to the city, it must be hard to keep his oasis unmolested. I didn't mind the rules at all. The bath house was the best I've seen (although I kept being unlucky getting inly cold water in women's side, though when ANYone else went to the showers, the water was nice and hot, SMH). We were by the breezy lake, under trees, with plenty of grass and just a beautiful spot. And the owners did their best to be responsive to the cold water issue, which disappeared when I wasnt in the shower. I would go there again! read more

This "rv resort" looks more like a parking lot for RV's. The entire place is gravel and cement slabs, the campers are about 5 feet apart and their is one big green area of grass for kids to play. Wouldn't recommend if you're trying to camp. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life!! I'm from California and we were visiting family from Dekalb and wanted to visit Sycamore Lake to enjoy some time in the water. There is an RV Resort as soon as you arrived with a sign to register. Since it was our first time at Sycamore Lake, we thought those with an RV only had to register. Anywho, we drove passed the office close enough to see the lake but drove back around to the office to ask a question. As soon as I walked into the front office I politely said, "Hello". There was a lady and a man working on separate computers and neither greeted me nor made eye contact! I said, "Hello" again and no one looked up or said anything to me. So I asked the lady if she would be able to help me and she rudely replied, "I would've if you had stopped here first instead over driving around!". I couldn't believe my EARS!!! I told her it was our first time here and wasn't sure if only those with RV's were to only register and again she rudely replied, "I seen you read the sign before you drove passed". I told her again it was our first time and told her she was being unprofessional and would appreciate if she was more polite. She had an attitude but we still bought our "tickets" because my baby sister really wanted to come. As a business owner or front office representative, NO ONE should be treated this way! It was our first time here and everyone should be treated with respect! We will never come back! The water was dirty, the sand was also polluted and was full of small branches, and the restrooms were disgusting! I recommend go elsewhere for some fun in the sun! Laundry very expensive $2.75 for 27 minutes and not very large capacity $.25 for 4 minutes of dry time which adds up quickly, also $10.00 refundable fee for card to let you into laundry, or showers. Do not loose it. Propane is charges by container size even if a partial fill. Tengo Internet is very slow. However our version data was good. Our AT&T signal was weak. No Cable and lots of trees if you need satellite mention it up front when you make reservations. Two small lakes catch and release only. They have a small beach. Both Beach and fishing can be used by locals with a small daily charge. Italian Dreams Pizza at entrance road is worth a try, as is the small Butcher/Sandwich shop on opposite side.We found both to be good. We stayed 4 months while working on our house. Shopping is convient, lots of stores in area. We would stay again if in the Chicago area. read more

As a pipeliner who travels all over the US. I have seen and stayed at a lot of campground,s . My question is how do these businesses call themselves a ( Resort ) when they are barely a campground?. With water a electrical issues does the 2 ponds they have add the glamour?. Their roads need to be addressed, like a dozen loads of rock and a road grader with proper drainage. Resorts have asphalt and drive throughs not mud and pot holes. Management really needs to get some how to treat people class time. First things first...when you go to get into the "resort" you first have to stop and sign in at the little building in front. Every single time I have ever gone in there the man and the woman make you feel like you are absolutely ruining their day by making them take your money and hand you a ticket. They literally don't even have to stand up and you still feel like you're bothering them. Not a smile, not a joke, not a how are you, not a have a nice day, not a thank you, nothing, EVER. You would think as being the owners and not only that but being the first people that you see coming into the resort, they would want to make your experience nice by giving you a smile and a have a nice day, but no. I really just don't get it. Then you have to drive around the pond to get to the entrance. You give them your tickets, blow up your floaty's and they give you entrance. When I went to go give the guy my tickets he asked me "do you have any glass or alcohol"when I said no he said "can I check"? Very weird but I said yes. I opened my cooler to my four ice waters and Went in. He must have came and walked by me and my friend at least four times checking on us. I really don't feel like I deserve the harassment. I had already showed him I didn't have any alcohol and yet he made it a point to come by me four extra times. Also, there are antHills after anthills in the grass. When I went back up to the entrance to the pond I told the Woman working up there about the ant hills. She gave me attitude and said "yeah well look into it". I was really excited the first time that I came there, but I definitely don't need to be dealing with somebody being rude to me especially when I'm paying them money, being harassed, and sitting in a ton of anthills. We had called to reserve at least a week in advance and were told we could have a lake view site. Only, when we got there, and now had no other options, we were told that there were 2 camping clubs coming in and they took up all the lake view sites. We were placed as far away from the lake as possible so we could truly enjoy the gravel dust, commercial silo dust and early morning trucks, and the road noise. WE NEVER SAW ANY CAMPING GROUPS COME IN AND most of THE LAKE SPOTS WERE OPEN THE WHOLE TIME WE WERE THERE. Dishonest practices. So disappointed as we were repeat customers, not again. read more

HORRIBLE AWFUL PLACE!!!! I went there to visit my relatives. I was not aware the camp ground charged a $2 visitor fee. Sorry I don't camp. The owners were very cold and rude. The woman tried to overcharge me. She got angry at me and called her husband to talk to me out front. He told me to get the "F" off his property. Apparently they have a sign posted that I didn't see. He continued his verbal assault by asking me if I could "f**king read and if I was "f**king ignorant. When I tried to explain he told me he was going to call the sheriff and have me put in jail for trespassing! When I asked if I could say good bye to my family and retrieve my personal property-his reply was "if you f**king want your stuff-f**king walk!! I am a 57 year old handicapped lady. I could not walk that far if I wanted to! I never raised my voice. I don't use that language. Who treats crippled people like that? Seriously- all of this because of a $2 visitor fee??
