He took the time to thoroughly inspect the issue and clearly explained what was happening and why the repair needed to wait until the pipe thawed to avoid further damage. After consulting four different plumbers and a leak detection specialist about a problem that we couldn't quite pinpoint in our basement, Syd's plumbing was able to come in and solve our issue. We had catastrophic failure with a terrible smell and drain flies and a little bit of water on the floor but no one could help us. Finally, Syd's plumbing brought a camera and put it down the line and were able to let us know of a major busted pipe (they ended up having to replace the whole pipe due to roots and other issues) below the slab of our house. After figuring out what the problem was, Syd's plumbing was able to perform the work and fix the major problem. They showed up on time and ready to work. His team was friendly and knowledgeable. Syd himself oversaw the work on-site. Syd is social and amusing, providing clear explanations and advice on trying to deal with home insurance. Most of all, Syd is honest and generous. Beware! I engaged Syds Plumbing and Repair to install a kitchen faucet after receiving a telephone estimate of $200 from Syd for the job; which was competitive with other quotes I had obtained. The work was satisfactorily completed by one of Syds employees, Mike. The scope increased somewhat as a water cutoff valve had to be replaced. The total time involved to complete the work was one and one~half hours. So far, so good. Then hammer dropped. When it came time to settle my bill, Mike informed me that the total charge would be $850!! I thought that he was joking when he gave me that number, but he wasn't! It took a stiff conversation with Syd to get the charges reduced to a reasonable and acceptable level and it will take some time - if ever-for me to loose the feeling of being bait-and-switched. I will not be engaging Syds Plumbing and Repair in the future given their questionable business practices. For others, I say, beware. read more

Syd is just now finishing up some work for us. I first had Syd out to diagnose and bid a drain problem in my Dad's house last spring, but I ended up going with another plumber, and wish I had gone with Syd the first time. Eventually, that other plumber took care of the drain problem from just inside the foundation wall to the outside line up to the street. More recently, as we were getting ready to put that house on the market, we noticed another issue with the utility floor drain backing up whenever running a load of wash. Syd and his crew came promptly, and confirmed that we also needed replacement of the floor drain under the concrete in the utility room. He gave me a decent bid on the spot, and was able to get to work more quickly that I expected. His crew moved our clothes washing appliances out of the room, removed the laundry tub, covered our cabinets and shelves with plastic, and painters-taped the door jambs to contain the dust from the jack-hammering excavation. They replaced our drain pipes, got the county inspection, covered the hole with gravel, and put a smooth coat of concrete to repair the excavation. When the concrete set, they came back the next day and put everything back where it was supposed to be. They did all this with patience and professionalism despite the well meaning but sometimes ditsy occupant of the house who made it challenging for them to gain access and start work some days, and I really appreciate their forbearance, though I would not recommend you taking that for granted. Very disappointed. My 87 year old mother-in-law used this business and paid over $2000 last October. She is unable to turn off the bathroom tub faucet. It has been running for 3 days and this company can't tell us when they can come fix something they repaired before. This is so unfortunate. Found another plumber that will do it quickly. read more

Just had a great experience with Syd's plumbing after a horrid experience with another plumber for a kitchen drain clog. I really wanted to go with Syd but they were busy with a big project, so I called another plumber which had great reviews on yelp. NOT He was arrogant and totally misdiagnosed the issue and still charged me extra without fixing the orig issue. The experience with Syd's plumbing was like night and day. Brianna on the phone was super pleasant, she'd update me whether they were still able to come out or they weren't going to make it. Syd was super cool too, easy to talk to. He took a look at the pipes and in 10s he correctly diagnosed the issue which the first plumber was scratching his head after 2.5hrs of working on it. In short, Syd was able to snake out the clog in just 50mins, which the first plumber could not do in 2.5 hrs. First plumber was already mentioning excavation and tying the pipes to a different line etc. So glad I waited until Syd was avail well worth it! read more

I have spoken to the woman who manages the phone line and she tried emailing it multiple times. Then I just asked her to send it via the post office... I highly recommend Syd's Plumbing & Repair!! We had a sag in our sewer line and were having sewer back-ups in our basement. Syd came out, explained what needed to be done and gave us a fair price for the work. He replaced our sewer and water line from the house to the sidewalk and added a cleanout valve outside so that if we ever have problems in the future it can be snaked outside. The work was completed in 2 1/2 days, they dug down 9 1/2 feet to get to the pipes, replaced the pipes, filled the hole and the yard is level and once the grass grows back will be as good as new! There were no surprises and the guys that did the work were all very nice and are really hard workers! It is also nice that Syd was onsite during the entire job and his workers have been with him for years so they know what they are doing! If you need to have your sewer replaced, call Syd! read more

I had been told by another, highly rated plumber that I need to replace my sewer line and water supply line. A third plumber never bothered to come out after one email and two phone calls. Syd and two colleagues showed up on time and asked me if anybody has run a tv camera through the sewer pipe yet. He said he could not give me an estimate unless he first did a video inspection. When he opened the pipe, he found it was completely backed up. He said he would have to clean out the pipe first, at a cost of $350, but he would not charge for the video inspection. Once he was able to run a camera through the line, he said there was no need to do anything else. The other estimate I got was for $10,300, so this was welcome news. I could not be more pleased with Syd's Plumbing & Repairs. His fed are very reasonable, he knows what he is doing and he is HONEST! I highly recommend him! read more

Syd's Plumbing resolved some plumbing issues that I had as a result of water damage to the property. Upon completion of the work, the customer is required to sign a contract and pay in full. I met the terms and conditions of the company's agreement. However, I do not have a copy of the countersigned contract listing the scope of work or a fully executed contract on the date the services were rendered. I made repeated attempts to obtain a copy of the executed contract by e-mail/leaving voicemail messages. All communications went unanswered. In order for a contract to be binding, all parties involved are required to execute the contract. Otherwise the unsigned contract does not exist and it means nothing in the court of law. Please make sure you have an executed copy of the contract prior to doing business with this company. read more

Buyer beware. Real bait and switch operation. Was quoted $225. an hour they were here two hours and was given a much, much, much higher bill without it even being itemized. Seemed to pull the number out of thin air. A real scam! They tried not to honor the coupon on this site and on their own site and then raised the price of the job to make up for the coupon. I contacted Syd's about fixing an underground water main leak in my yard. the water line was about 8' below ground. I had another company locate the leak, and had Syd's repair it. Syd's quickly dug down the 8' feet and repaired the broken pipe. they cleaned up the area well when completed and left me the broken section of pipe for reference. Syd's charged $600 less than the other estimate that I received. read more

When someone's ex-brother-in-law recommends him, he's either very good, or he needs the job to pay support. In Syd's case, it's definitely the former. I had 4 or 5 estimates to replace a sewer pipe. Syd's was the lowest, but that isn't why I chose him. He had good references, and I chose him because he stuck by his price. Attar the other plumbers saw if I would nibble - I didn't - they all rushed to offer prices almost as low as Syd's. Even when an unexpected issue came up that cost me more, the total was was still lower than the other bids. I liked how he clearly explained what needed to be done, he was timely in the work, and he cleaned up afterward. I'm probably shooting myself in the foot by telling folks how good he is. He'll be so popular that I won't be able to hire him for any further plumbing jobs, but he's that good. read more
