A friend and I had dinner reservations here at 7:15pm. We arrived a couple minutes early and were told we'd be seated shortly. We enjoyed the live entertainment for a while and chatted by the bar. After 40 minutes, we were seated upstairs in one of the dining areas. We didn't put in our order until almost 8pm. They close at 9pm. We ordered a bunch of different things to try. I love and appreciate the farm-to-table focus and sustainability efforts! We couldn't wait to try. We ordered the Bread Service appetizer to start. It's made fresh in-house, comes out soft and warm, and tastes yummy. The flavored butter was a nice compliment to the bread. It was one of the simplest items we ordered, but one of the best. The New York Strip was perfectly cooked medium and sat in a bed of greens, with potatoes on the side. The potatoes were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They were delicious. The mashed potatoes we ordered on the side were just okay, nothing special. We tried the Roasted Golden Beets with goat cheese. It was so good and a must try! Lastly, we got the Peach Clafoutis for dessert. It wasn't overly sweet and had a nice, balanced flavor. The consistency was a bit soggy but still tasted great. Overall the food was delicious, servers were wonderful, beautiful restaurant, great ambiance. The only complaint were the delays. First at the beginning and then throughout dinner for our meal. Otherwise, I would love to come back on an evening that isn't as busy and try it again! It's definitely worth revisiting. read more

Finally!!!! I was able to check out Sylvan Table! I've been wanting to come here, however I didn't have anyone interested in coming. Well, I'm the type of person who waits on NO ONE! My good people this place did not disappoint! I should have came here a long time ago. The staff were very friendly (shoutout to Lisa & Josh) & accommodating, the food was DELISH & the drinks were just as good!! I love the ambiance here. There is a beautiful outdoor area to dine, an outside wood smoker, and 3 green houses! I can confidently say this place is one of my faves in Metro Detroit! This place is beautiful inside and out! It has stunning gardens outside with an outdoor seating area, and the inside is a gorgeous barn with multiple seating areas. We were seated upstairs with a nice view overlooking the bar. It was a Wednesday evening and they had live music from 6-9pm! Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and gave great suggestions. She brought us some complimentary lemongrass tea to start which was delicious. Everything here tasted so fresh. The bread service comes with 3 types of butter, my personal favorite was the strawberry butter. My favorite dish we ordered had to be the flatbread. It was fresh, flavorful, and crispy! My only complaints was that the chicken could have been cooked a little less, it was slightly dry. And our beets came out room temperature, but our waitress quickly fixed that. The brown sugar ice cream was so delicious to finish off the meal with. I did not have a chance to try any cocktails this time but would love to next time I visit! What an amazing experience. A new friend wanted to take me here and I had never heard of Sylvan Table before this trip so I was worried that the drive was kind of far (from where I live) but THE DRIVE WAS WORTH IT. What a special place. The restaurant is styled like a barn. We sat in an outdoor area rather than inside and it was perfect. The music in the background, the lighting the ambiance everything was literally perfect. Our waitress was on point. The drinks were delicious and the food was unreal. I ordered beets and carrots and I would make this drive every week if I could for those beets. The beets were plated on hummus and cooked to perfection. We came here for our anniversary celebration. The barn is beautiful. It must be even prettier in the warm season for the outside scene. The service was excellent. Our waitress helped us take pictures, put a candle on our dessert for the anniversary celebration, and gave us a small pouch of lavender from the farm. In terms of food, we got the mushroom+brie, a bit surprised it doesn't come with any bread, so we ordered the artisan bread to go with it. The 3 butter options that came with the bread were excellent. I got the blackened catfish and loved everything about it. My husband got the short rib, which was a great dish, though it's more of a beef roast since it doesn't come with any bone. The basque cheesecake was lovely too. Overall, we enjoyed this place a lot. I have come here for dinner 2 different times. The menu changes slightly depending on what locally sourced. There is plenty of parking and what is nice is there is a light that allows you to get out onto Orchard Lake Road. I have only eaten inside and it is very quaint but nice. The food is quite rich. Both times that I have been there, we got a small bite from the chef after ordered. I could not tell you what it was but it was quite good. The last time I was there I started with the Butternut Squash Soup. It was good and exactly as describe on the menu. I then had a Chicken under a Brick. This meal, according to our waitress is always on the menu; it was good. However, I would try something else, something more seasonal and one that is not always on the menu. The potato side dish I got was quite rich but oh so good. I would definitely order it again. The one reason for the downgrade in stars is one that I understand but that is life. The restaurant does not (or at least we were told that in November 2023) that they don't do separate checks. For parties over 6, they add a 20% gratuity which is fine. The whole no separate checks was a bit frustrating because the whole order was just inputted in randomly instead of by seat. This means that you are on the honor system to kick in the right amount of money for your meal. I will probably come back though hopefully in a different food growing season read more

This farm to table restaurant offers some of the freshest, delicious meals around. The menu changes roughly weekly. The setting is a 300+ year old farmhouse, with gardens all around it. The service is exceptional, and the food incredible. I went with the intent of ordering the local trout, when they were sold out I got the brick chicken....oh my...so juicy and tender. Excellent choice. The breads were amazing. We ordered the charcuterie and then the mushroom risotto that was worthy of being a main course. Service was spot on...Mary was our server and she was friendly, efficient, and service oriented. I look forward to visiting again next time I visit Michigan. read more

Fantastic true farm to table food. Much of the food is grown on site and the rest is locally and responsibly sourced. Everything was wonderful with great mixed drinks too. Our only less enjoyed item was the seasonal stone fruit cobbler. It had a lining of fruit in the cast iron with primarily a dense cake as the dessert. The flavor was good but the cobbler was dense and heavy and too great a ratio of the dessert. I think lemons eat would have also added dimension to the flavor. They also have plenty of parking and a little shop at the front of the restaurant with items made by them and other locally made goods. At first we were sat in the bar area but I really had my heart set on sitting in the back room with all the windows and fireplace, I'm glad we asked to move because it was such a lovely glow as the sunset. We came for our anniversary. All of the food was really great. You can tell how much care and thought is put into each and every recipe! I loved the chicken. I think it came with beets, which I didn't think I liked, but I was loving them with this dish! My husband got the NY Strip and said he thinks this is the best food we've had! We've heard so much about this place and we were super excited to try it out. It's in it's a little building which has a beautiful external sitting area and internal sitting area. Both inside and outside are beautiful. Our service was very friendly and attentive. I wish I could say that I like the food. Although we can watch them making the food from our seating area, the food we had, and the menu itself was just simply uninspiring. Maybe it was the rotation timeframe that we came here for it wasn't great because they said that the menu changes every two weeks I had a pasta with mushrooms and we had the sirloin and also the brick chicken. All of it was just kind of mediocre and rather disappointing. Really nice building. I think an old barn. There is a small lounge area with a fireplace that is nice. We were seated in a large room at the back with glass ceiling and large fireplace. So load could not hear person across the table. Service was OK, but could have been better. We started with a burrata with beets, but really only a few tiny slices of beet, not even a fork full. A couple of us had the Jerk Seasoned Goat and were wondering where the jerk season was. One of our group had a chicken dish and said it was almost tasteless and need salt and the potatoes were undercooked and tasted muddy. Another had a pasta and said it was OK. Decided to skip desert. The atmosphere is great, there's a cute little gift shop, & upon entering you can see into the kitchen which I always think is pretty cool! Nichole was a wonderful server! She gave great recommendations & told us the story behind the restaurant. She was able to tell us what was freshly picked that day & which (on-site) spot it came from. The food was delicious! So lovely of a building, concept and menu. Everything was delicious. Loved the atmosphere, loved the food, loved the decor. However, our server killed the vibe. She was in complete opposition to what work has been done to create this space. Instead of calm, classy, elevated, cozy, she was pushy, unaware and uncomfortable to be around. We were here celebrating a career accomplishment, with our children (ages 14-23). Instead of reading the vibe, serving with excellence and mindfulness, and executing the completion of the work the designers, architects, farmers and chefs created, she flopped across the finish line. From forgetting my drink order (sparkling water), then forgetting the citrus for it, forgetting our entire appetizer order, forgetting my coffee (twice) to bumping her belly on the table repeatedly and attempting to upsell us without taking care of the basic items we ordered... it was just a shame. Ambiance is unique, interesting and enhanced by the smokey scent though, I can do without the live music and will be sure to avoid evenings when it is scheduled in the future. I've eaten here six or seven times over the years. Always ... off. The beauty of the space and the gorgeous gardens that supply some of their produce make it feel special and unique. The servers are enthusiastic and informed. But the drinks are watery and unbalanced. The food is just ... bad. Big hunks of brown undercooked vegetables with sauces that are salty or worse. The flavors are unsubtle. I always feel like I'm choking it down because it's good for me. Please if you can handle the drive, go to Selden standard in Detroit. There every dish is created with delicate finesse and you will want to lap up every morsel. Sylvan Table reminds me of bad home cooking. I've heard really good things about this place, but I was surprisingly underwhelmed and frankly disappointed with my food here, which was disheartening! They are clearly super passionate here about creating a sustainable farm, which they say takes 7-9 years and they are currently on year 2-3, so I know it's still early. But it's also not so early that they don't know what they're doing. They clearly have a great set up, they have a butcher downstairs preparing the meat, a whole set of garden beds, greenhouses, barns, etc. and a whole staff in the open kitchen that you can see hard at work. Truly the ambiance carries this place and is so divine, especially with their patio set up and we didn't even sit on the patio! The interior of Sylvan Table is also gorgeous and I would give the ambiance here 6 stars if I could. But then when it came to service and food - oof. With service, I'm not mad by any means, I just think that maybe they lack in waitstaff a bit because on a Tuesday evening at 6:30 when my friend and I first sat down, our waiter was incredible and constantly checking up on us and answering all the questions we had. But after we had put in our order just for our starters, we started seeing her a lot less frequently. It wasn't until our starters came out (which took a surprising amount of time to come out) that we finally placed our order for our mains, sides, and dessert all at once. At one point she did mention that there was a huge group at the front a party of 20 or something, so I could maybe understand the hold up, but we ended up spending close to 3 hours here, which is truly unheard of so it was definitely something of note. I'd give the service maybe 4 stars. Now for the food...honestly this was unfortunately the most disappointing part. First off, love that the menu is allergen friendly - my friend was gluten free and she had plenty of options to pick from on the menu. I would love to see more options in the way of vegetarian and vegan dishes (typically just 1 dish from each section of the menu), but I appreciate them even having options to begin with. But overall, the food was not that great at all even though everything sounded good from the menu, but I think overall nothing blew us away and in fact, some of it we had hopes would be a good combination of ingredients, but the actual dish didn't taste that good or even went as far as offending my palette, which I feel like never happens. To begin, we got the chicken liver pate and charcuterie board for our starters. My friend and I had never had pate before, so that's on us that we really didn't like it. I took 1-2 bites of it and couldn't continue and neither could my friend. We disliked it so much, we considered asking them to take it off our bill, but ultimately didn't. Ironically, when our waiter came back to ask how the food was and we politely told her that the pate was not for us, she said that she didn't like that one either and wouldn't recommend it...LOL! OK then why didn't you say something BEFORE we ordered it haha. Charcuterie was fine, not enough meat on the board compared to the bread, cheese, and fruit offerings. For our mains we got the short rib and monkfish and for our sides we got the patatas bravas and roasted cauliflower. In short, the sides were the best part. I highly recommend the patatas bravas and then honestly, I don't recommend anything else from what we ate. The short rib was good and well prepared. The cauliflower was again good, but came out lukewarm and not super crispy given the roast/char on it, which was texturally confusing. The monkfish was the other item that offended my palette. Whatever creamed corn, seeded, green tomato concoction they put below the monkfish did not go together and made my taste buds freak out. The sauce drizzled over the monkfish wasn't great either. It was disappointing because I normally love monkfish, its texture, and its taste! Lastly, for dessert we got the corn creme brulee. I had high hopes because I love corn and creme brulee and could imagine this going together so well. It was OK...the creme brulee was overly bruleed, so the sugar was burnt which made each bite taste bitter. The corn added nothing and didn't blend with the creamy texture of the custard the way I expected it to. As you can see, we ordered from every corner of this menu and for how expensive our bill was at the end, none of it felt worth it. I'm glad I experienced Sylvan Table, but I really don't think I'll be back anytime soon because I firmly believe that this place is not worth the hype. It's such a beautiful space and they what they're setting out to accomplish is so admirable, there's just a huge gap between the mission and delivery in my perspective. I might be interested in coming back in a few years maybe to see what has changed and how they have become more sustainable, but as of right now...I'm good for the time being and I'm so disheartened to say that! read more

Lovely brunch experience! Indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed sitting outside and the patio is very spacious. I loved my Ploughman's, which was an assortment of meats and cheeses, a delicious mustard, beets, rolls/breads. Everything was very high quality, fresh and delicious. My friend really enjoyed her quiche. We had a side of bacon and it was fantastic! Smoked and seasoned perfectly. I had a refreshing pineapple juice. Next time I'll try a cocktail because their cocktail menu looks great too. The grounds are beautiful here! They grow their own herbs, have beautiful flowers, and even their own meat smoker.
