I found this funeral home on Yelp and gave an initial call for cremation research. I spoke to the owner Daniel and asked general questions regarding process and price for my grandmother. Daniel was extremely informative, courteous, and sensitive. We chose to move forward with Symonds Madison and the team was very kind and helpful. Jennifer at the front desk communicated throughout the process and responded quickly to emails. The location is easy to find, pretty on the outside and bigger than it looks on the inside. There is pretty of parking on the new paved lot. Although we did not have services at the home, the facilities were nice and the place looks like it's cared for with love. read more

This has to be one of the nicest funeral homes I've ever been in and I don't try to make a habit of it. It was very warm and welcoming. They took care of my uncle's service and were completely accommodating. Not to mention that my uncle's appearance was so pleasant and peaceful. It was comforting for loved ones to see him in that way in hopes that his final moments were peaceful. Mr. Symonds is a true gem. His team was also very helpful when I asked for an attendance notice. Everything was absolutely breathtaking and they made it easy for my aunt to make a few payment arrangements if necessary. We couldn't be more pleased with how everything turned out and I couldn't recommend this place more to anyone in need. I also appreciated the walk in announcement for my uncle. If I die in Elgin, take me ANYWHERE BUT HERE! My Mother's funeral was horrible, arranged by my incompetent sister because it was convenient for her. I was horrified by the embalming job and had to convince my oldest daughter not to slam the coffin shut or physically attack her aunt. I got to see some of the service this funeral home provides, since my sister and her family were receiving some level of service. I wouldn't know since my family (kids, grandchildren) felt invisible. So I suppose the service might have seemed better if I had been in the half of the crowd they acknowledged. If I am ever unfortunate enough to die, even on the doorstep of this mortuary, please drag my dead body to another place. read more

I cannot begin to express how wonderful the folks at Symonds were while taking care of the arrangements for my father-in-law (Tony) recently. Tony passed away on a Wednesday morning. Family came from out of state in the day before he passed to say their goodbyes. I contacted Daniel at Symonds within a half hour of Tony's passing and explained to him that we would like to have the service on Friday. While he did mention that it would be difficult, Daniel promised that he would do all that he could to help us and boy did he ever come through! Daniel took care of everything. We had a funeral mass at the church with Tony's remains that Friday morning. Daniel and his team also had mass cards produced waiting at the church for the service. Daniel and his team also arranged military honors for Tony at the cemetery immediately after the mass... Daniel and the team at Symonds were just so great to us during a very difficult time that was really quite unexpected. I cannot recommend them enough or thank them enough for what they did for us... My husband of 46 years had been battling multiple health problems for years. Still, his death came as a sudden, numbing shock. I'd done virtually no planning for final arrangements, so the hospice nurse's early morning call to Daniel came to him out of the blue. Nevertheless, he was at my house within what seemed like minutes, ready to discuss Bruce's wishes with flawless professionalism and genuine compassion. These wishes, it must be noted, were as unconventional as my husband had been: Among other details, a specific plain pine coffin had to be obtained from 1,300 miles away, and a horse-drawn caisson needed to be hired. Never once did Daniel say "Not possible." He made it all happen, on time, even going so far as to transport the coffin on the final leg of its trip after the freight company dropped the ball. Hello I contacted the Funeral home to have my cat cremated. They contacted their other location for the actual cremation. I was told I'd have her back in 1 to 2 Weeks. I had to call the Funeral home 3 times before I finally got my cat back which was closer to 3 Week. I picked out an urn that was a black cat with yarn.. all black. It was $100.00. I was told the cremation is $160.00, then $100.00 for the urn which would bring the total to $260.00. Which was verbally confirmed at that time. When I picked her up I was told that the cremation was $160.00, the urn was $180.00 and then an additional $20.00 for engraving. They actually showed me the picture in the on-line catalog and it showed $180.00? I don't know how this could have changed in 3 Weeks? I wound up having to pay $340.00 instead of $260.00. I also did not get the black urn that was in the picture, it almost looks like it is black and gold? I will be sure to get written quotes next time i need anything at all. The people were very nice but I would not recommend to anyone. read more

My favorite part of this home was the beautiful flowers and Landscaping on the outside it felt more like a home then your typical funeral parlor. I came across this funeral home from a google search. My dad was in hospice care and I wanted to prepare myself for the inevitable. I call other places in town but I felt as they were cold and unsympathetic. Daniel took the time from that first phone call to explain the different options. When the time came and my father passed he came to the house and made us feel very comfortable in putting my father into his care. Arrangements were very smooth and thoughtful, His wife Joy did such an amazing job with his obituary. She really captured his life in so many words.
