Best shrimp fried rice!!!! So clean! Delicious food! Definitely recommend trying this place!

We ordered from here through Grubhub. The General Tso's chicken was all breading and overcooked and soaking in an overly sweet sauce with a weird assortment of soggy vegetables. The shrimp with garlic sauce was runny and only had 6 shrimp for the $18 order. The shrimp was overcooked and the vegetables were undercooked. There was no garlic flavor at all. The white rice was overcooked and sticky. The lo mien was also overcooked. The spring rolls were soggy and greasy. The entire order was packed badly, the paper containers were soaked through and leaking all over the place. Please let this review save you from the disappointing experience of ordering from here. Such a great place for vegetarians. They have a large menu of "zen" items- mock chicken, beef, fish, duck.... Love it!

This was once a favorite place for szechuen and has devolved into the worst asian meal I have ever had. Very sad since we have so many good memories and meals from this restaurant this one was so disappointing that we probably wont go back to see if its improved . Nothing was good. Food tasted old and not fresh. Wonton soup was salty and wonton noodles were hard in the middle. Spring rolls were holding a tremendous amount of oil. I ordered my dish mild and it was too hot to eat. The breaded shrimp was soggy and greasy breading was falling off in the container. Rice was very sticky and not fluffy. I would recommend steering clear of Szechwan Garden. The Lo Mein was inedible - the noodles were mush, little to no veggies and the chicken and shrimp were over cooked and very rubbery. I picked out the meat for my dog and threw the noodles in the trash. The Hot and Sour Soup was VERY sour and barely had any "hot" and definitely no sinus clearing wave of heat. It tasted (and looked) like egg drop sour that they had added some veg, a bit of pork and a A LOT of vinegar to it. My spring roll was "ok" in taste but was not drained coming out of the fryer and I ended up with quarter and dime sized grease stains on my sweater and jeans (fingers crossed they come out). While their price point was good there was absolutely no value since it the leftovers are going into the bin. It was very disappointing. Service was fine. Best general tsos I've had in awhile! Love that they give you the option of picking your spice level. I ordered medium and it was perfect. A good kick without being overwhelming. My only comment would be that I would like the chicken just a touch crispier. I also ordered the crab Rangoon equally as delicious. Portion sizes are generous! All I can say is I don't know how the ratings are this high. My girlfriend and her mom both said it tasted Bad and the rice was very sticky and so was the noodles..... my girlfriends mom ordered secshuan chicken and it was all nuts barely chicken. Beef lo mein was more like is this beef? Or not couldn't tell.. I'm my opinion chopsticks express and wasabi express blow this out of the water... don't waste ur time. Really solid food, I love their huge vegan menu! This time we ordered the zen boneless ribs, zen retreat soup, taste of nirvana, and vegetarian peking pan fried noodles. The ribs were very good, in my opinion. The soup was a little bland and not really what was explained to us by the staff, as it really only included seaweed and tofu rather than an array of vegetables (which is what they had said). It was still good but I don't know if I would order it again. The taste of nirvana and pan fried noodles were great!! All in all, this place has a lot of appeal with their large menu and will surely have something for everyone to enjoy. This is my new favorite Chinese Restaurant! I'm vegan and they have so many options on their Zen menu. Here's what I got: -Zen Spareribs - yumm!! 10/10 - Zen Chicken Wings - seriously the cutest things ever. Little chunks of vegan chicken on a wooden skewer. These were life-changing! 10/10 - Zen General Tso's Chicken - delicious! 10/10 - Zen Wonton Soup - meh, I'd skip this next time. The wontons were very bland. 3/10 My poor boyfriend got taken super out of the way going to pick this up "because of a Google Maps issue" they told him after finally calling from the road in confusion. I don't want to completely knock this restaurant because there is definitely a consumer for this type of bland, Americanized Asian food. If you think brown sauce is the best kind of Chinese food. Go ahead and give this a try. Sichuan food it is not. 1) the portions are huge. 2) won ton soup was awful. We got the large size and it had 3 or 4 wontons which must have been frozen and freezer burned because the dough on the inside was hard 3) ordered off menu - ma po tofu. This is the most classic sichuan food. It was terrible. No flavor. No sichuan peppercorns. Lots of weird gray pork 4) sesame chicken was deep fried and covered in a cloyingly sweet sauce 5) shrimp hot pot had the most boring brown sauce I've ever tasted. The shrimp were hammered and tasted more like what I imagine rubber shoe soles taste like than anything else. I want to reiterate- this is not sichuan food. After hearing a lot of good reviews for this place, I decided to give it a try. Now, maybe it's my fault for ordering Cantonese at a Szechwan restaurant, but I was greatly disappointed. The egg foo young was dry and overcooked. There was some sort of sauce that tasted like gravy with mushrooms. Nothing like the brown sauce that I've gotten with every other EFY I've ordered in the past 50 years. On a recent trip to visit my brother in Cleveland, he brought my mother and I to this local restaurant for dinner. I'm vegan so he knew that there were "some" options available for me here. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a very nice woman and promptly seated. They have a very extensive menu which covers traditional dishes and also another part of the menu; Zen Cuisine, which is the vegan version of most of the traditional dishes. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of options available on this particular menu. I ordered the zen barbeque ribs, which were phenomenal. I ate the whole thing myself. My main dish was the Taste of Nirvana, which was a vegetable dish with breaded "chicken like" wheat pate and a delicious sauce. The portion sizes are large here, and prices are great, especially for the quality and amount of food provided. The server was very attentive and helpful. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and I'm kind of wishing I was back in Lakewood right now! I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

I've been living in Lakewood for 8+ years now and I couldn't be more mad at myself for not trying Szechwan Garden sooner. I've now heard twice in the last few weeks and it is beyond excellent. By far my favorite Chinese food in the area. Very friendly staff and they have told me everything is made from scratch and in-house. Kung Pao chicken is terrific and you can pick your spice level. A very solid choice if you're looking for the staples as well as a few unique dishes. We order take-out every few weeks and have loved everything. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because the decor is a little dated, but not bad if you do dine in. The service is always friendly and quick-typically 20 min or so. Some of my favorite dishes include the fried noodles, tofu and green beans, sesame chicken, Beautiful four seasons (which is literally 4 different dishes packed separately for only $15ish), and the apps of course- Rangoon's, dumplings, and wonton soup. Not good. Not worth only one star, because I only reserve that rating for a truly horrific experience. Szechuan Garden's food was not criminal; just really, really not good. Maybe it's just me. I don't know! As my stalkers know, I really only order the same three or four things every time I have Chinese food. This time I went for the wonton soup and NOT the chicken and broccoli, but this fried tofu and cashew stir-fry. The soup's broth was ok, and very flavorful. However, a good broth does not make up for poor wontons. Mushy wontons! Mystery meat filling! It had the texture, flavor and color of mystery meat. Gross. Why didn't I go with my staple and order Chicken and broccoli, you ask? (Well, you didn't, but I'm going to pretend like you did.) Because it wasn't on the menu. Huh?! That's right. Chicken and broccoli. Not on the menu. I know, I know, I could have just ordered the Chicken and mixed vegetables, and asked for just broccoli and no additional vegetables. I could have ordered the Beef and broccoli and asked to sub chicken. But you know what? I thought I'd try something else. And wow, I was not happy with it. The veggies were huge and overpowering, like long tall thick mushroom stems, for example, and they were sorta steamed but then thrown in this heavy sauce so they got all soggy. Same thing with the tofu. I looove me some tofu. But when it's advertised as "fried," and then it comes as "soggy," me no likey. My husband -- who will eat just about anything -- took one bite of his chicken and garlic sauce and said, "No. Not good." And didn't eat any more. (I know this was hard for him to do, too, because he always loves to prove me wrong, and I said the food was bad before he started eating, and he was like, "Yeah, sure, whatever, you're just a snob." Eat THAT Derek!) The egg roll was sooort of ok, but overall had too much squishiness and not enough crispy/greasiness. I appreciate the "Zen" menu and the vegetarian/vegan slant, but you can still do that and make great food. Hell, you can do that at a non-"Zen" Chinese place if people care enough to have it done. This was my favorite Chinese food place. My family has been ordering take-out and dining in the restaurant for years. I won't eat at any other Chinese place around Lakewood. Every item I have ever ordered has been good and that is going on a 20 or so year run. I cannot say enough about the service. It is a family run establishment that values its customers. Szechuan Garden (SG) has ruined Chinese take-out for me. You wouldn't give SG a second chance when seeing it from the outside. It is in a location that looks like it would feature a laundromat rather than a hidden, Asian treasure. The menu is extensive and features many fantastic vegan options. This is a very eaters friendly place. The portions are huge and presented beautifully (if you're eating in). They also offer take-out. I can't say enough about how much better this food is than most Chinese food I have eaten in restaurants before. Awful. Awful. Awful. Awful. That pretty much sums up my experience. Oh, and they have a vegan menu. Dropped in on a Saturday night. The place was freezing and semi-crowded. All of the wait staff were bundled up and the space heaters that were scattered throughout the dining room just couldn't keep up with the draft from the window and the door opening. I started with vegan fried chicken. It was ok. Deep fried seitan on a stick. My meat eating companions got wontons and thought they were alright. I ordered vegan chicken in a garlic sauce. Not sure what was actually in the sauce but it tasted bland and almost burnt. Had I not been starving, I wouldn't have eaten it. My mom ordered vegan sweet and sour chicken. Sweet and sour sauce on deep fried fake meat is never really awful, so she enjoyed her meal. My mom's boyfriend got fried duck and it was too fried and very crispy. Again, almost burnt. My boyfriend got real sweet and sour chicken and said he's had better meals just about everywhere else we've been to. This was a major letdown. Szechwan Garden has been one of my go to places for Chinese food on west side for many years. Stopped by for lunch with my mother this Wednesday afternoon and we both enjoyed our meals. A few housekeeping items, parking can sometime be a bit tough. Szechwan Garden is in a small shopping strip that has a few parking spots, searching for street parking does sometime come into play. The decor is alright but not memorable and the sound level is good. We were seated with moments of entering the restaurant and drinking water was on the table in less than 1 minute or so and pot of hot tea was dropped soon after the water. We both opted for and enjoyed the hot and sour soup to start our lunch. The egg roll I ordered came out with a nice crisp shell and was steaming hot, the mustard offered on the side has the ability to clear your sinuses so use with caution. I went with the Hunan Chicken while my mother picked the Empress Chicken. We both asked that our dishes would be prepared "hot" and we were not disappointed with the results. There was enough spice to wake up your tastebuds. The only issue we had was the size of the small plates. It was a bit tough trying to keep food on the plate when we started to eat, a bit more unused clear space on the side would help presentation and dinning. I'm happy to recommend Szechwan Gardens for lunch or dinner. Lunch for two with soup, main dish and hot tea for less than $14 is a bargain considering the taste and quality. read more
