5/31/26 Gave them another chance. With knowing what my issue was last time, I ordered my egg foo young with no bean sprouts. Guess what, probably EXTRA bean sprouts. I have to say the food was OK although a little bit too salty. The chicken was not cooked crispy enough so it was chewy. But the most important thing was this: I showed up about 20 minutes before closing time. And one of the staff was cleaning the floor with a bucket of the filthiest water I've ever seen. Here's the problem: he wasn't cleaning the floor with clean water that got dirty. He started off with dirty water. Sorry guys that's it. I'm done I will never eat here again. The unsanitary conditions were no acceptable. End of story. I will say this. I think your fried rice is very good and so are the eggrolls. But still after seeing that bucket of filthy water. Everybody else (7) had a Chicken lunch dish: either Kung Pos, General Tsos, Sweet/Sour, or Egg Foo Yung. Not me. I had two Egg Rolls. To my surprise, there was meat in them (looked like pork cubes.) Cooked perfectly although they were little weak on the 5-spice. But, I loved the meat! Gobble The 2 quickly. The rest of the party enjoyed their 100% White Meat Chicken. Hoys used to have the best Chinese food in the area. This place has to have changed ownership because today I spent over $70 on THE worst Chinese food I've ever had. The salt and pepper pork was so bad, it tasted nothing like it's supposed to, compared to the dozens of times I've had it from any restaurant. All I tasted was rancid oil and the coating was very dark brown. Same with the fried squid and chicken wings. The fried rice was very salty. The egg rolls aren't the same either. NOT GOOD. All of the above went straight into the garbage. I'm finding it hard to believe this place is still Asian owned. I haven't tried the egg food young yet but I'm not holding out much hope. It's really sad that Hoy's as we knew it is gone. Do yourself a favor and find Another place for Chinese food. Anywhere else is better than the garbage I spent good money on. The food is okay - it's greasy but it's not terrible. It's not special. There are 600 better Chinese food places in the tri-county area. My problem with them is they are always trying to rip you off. When you order - watch what you planned to pay and what they charge. They are sneaky and they change the price and if you aren't watching - you'll get ripped off. I was on THEIR website the other day and I called to make an order. The food I wanted was 9.50. The guy on the phone said 11.65. I said that the menu says 9.50. Is there 2 bucks in taxes? He said "I don't know where you're looking, but the price is 11.65" I said I am looking on YOUR website. He said if you show me - I'll charge you 9.50. It is YOUR website. Sadly the sesame chicken tasted like orange chicken, the rice had no flavor, water tasting, and the pot stickers were the size of a stuffed cabbage and steamed, not fried... My critique: Shrimp pea pod was well seasoned Crab Rangoon - filling seemed like it was mixed to well where you did not get pieces of the crab meat. Hoy's Chinese Restaurant is a family favorite for literally decades. They are the kindest people and their food is always spot on. They have great lunch specials and dinner specials. My dad still lives in Wood Dale and eats there at least once a week. He loves the shrimp chop suey and the orange chicken - also loves their eggrolls. Whenever I am back in town it's one of the first places I go to eat. Love their mango smoothies in the summer. YUM! Friendly and professional service. Restaurant was clean, but it was a bit warm inside. I had the Mongolian Beef lunch special and it was delicious, albeit different than many MBs I've had elsewhere. It was more like a beef with spicy black bean sauce with plenty of (some might say too many) perfectly cooked onions! Portion was generous. The fried rice was perfection - smokey, not greasy, and perfectly seasoned. My buddy had the Shanghai Noodles with Shrimp. The ingredients were excellent. Especially notable is the generous number of large, succulent, and perfected cooked shrimp! The downside is that the seasoning wasn't quite on par - a little dry, bland, and not savory. The egg rolls were also delicious. Unlike many chinese lunch specials, soup is not included and would have been a nice. Lately I have been eating a vegetarian/vegan diet. I found out this place can accommodate us with all different type of vegetable dishes with it without tofu. They have nice size menu and can take out or add items of your dish. It's located in a strip mall and they have a dinning area to sit down. This past nov 2019 they did change their table service from now ordering at the front then having a seat and they will bring you your food. There is a lot of orders that are take out orders especially during the weekends. They are so nice and polite. They know me by name lol! You like tofu I said yes I do... Here is what we typically order for takeout: Large vegetable soup with tofu so good and they give you plenty of vegetables for your order. Large curry fried rice no meat typically it comes with chicken and shrimp and we asked for no egg but add vegetables and tofu The flavor is so good Large vegetable fried rice no egg very hearty and tasty. Their crab ragoon an appetizer is full of cream cheese and imitation crab meat and there are sweet and sour sauce is in house. Their fried wonton appetizer really looks like a little wontons and it comes with in-house sweet-and-sour sauce. Cantonese noodles with chow mein tofu Sweet and sour fried tofu Sesame seed fried tofu Buddha vegetable delight is tasty Lo mein noodles vegetable Overall this is one of my go to chinese food Joynt's. This is a great find that I made when hanging out in Bensenville. The restaurant is in a little strip mall, and as of this writing half the sign is burned out, so it's easy to miss. It also has unusual hours, closing at either 8:45 or 9:15 each night. I've had their Mongolian chicken, and it is so delicious. It's a little sweeter than at other places where I've had Mongolian chicken. It's marked on the menu as a spicy dish, but I don't get a lot of spice from it--even when I have ordered it extra spicy. But it's good regardless of how spicy it is. The soups--egg drop and hot and sour--are very good, so much so that I've come here just for the soup. I haven't really found an egg flower soup that I've liked since moving to Chicago 12 years ago. Although I live in the city, I get out to the suburbs fairly regularly. It will definitely be a consideration for dinner when heading out to Schaumburg or the vicinity. And if you live in the area, you have no excuse! read more

I've ordered take-out from here twice since the pandemic. I really wanted to like this place more since it was highly recommended but it hits around 3.5 stars for me. My first experience was ordering on their online menu. It is not a good system. I ended up with the wrong item because of the poor naming. Two different types of chow-mien (Canto style w pan fried noodles vs the crunchy noodles) but with the same name. The lack of distinction didn't even make me realize I ordered a different item until I got home and opened up the food. The two dishes are very different and I didn't like the soupy chow mien that I received. Another time, I got combination lo mien. I figured you can't mess that up. It was fine. Good, decent. Nothing that blew my mind or made me think I would get it again though. The service is good. Usually pretty quick. They will bring your order to your car. The location is convenient. The prices and quantity of food is good too so I will probably continue to explore the menu to see if I find something I love. read more

This is one of my mother in law's go-to Chinese takeaway restaurants and we almost always order from here when we visit. I really love the veggie egg rolls. They're super crispy and the filling is so good! The crab Rangoons are also very yummy. They're a lot bigger than the ones I'm used to, but that works out great as there's more room fir the cheeses crab filling. I had the Generator Tsos Chicken and it was delish- even though it was very different than the General Tsos from my neighborhood place. This dish wasn't too spicy (great for my husband and baby) and came in a sauce that tasted kind of bbq-y. I wish it would have come with a larger portion of rice though. My mother in law had the Singapore noodles (I didn't try any) but she said they were wonderful and my son REALLY enjoyed them as well. My husband had the beef chow mein and like it- I tried a bite of his and it was very good. We have a ton of leftovers that I can't wait to get into...I've been thinking about them pretty much since we finished eating last night! read more

Hoy's is a solid 4-stars for what it is, a greasy Chinese food restaurant. It's not upscale, fusion, healthy, or anything of the sort. So, if you go in understanding that, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The interior is small and sit down is clearly a tiny portion of their business. I don't think it would be a great dine in experience. But take out and delivery business always seem to be booming. Awesome. Because that means they're turning over their food, and you aren't getting old, resold, leftovers like another, significantly less busy, Chinese restaurant in the area. The orange chicken is a crowd favorite here, and it's rather good. So is their Mongolian Beef, which actually has a kick. Their Hawaiian fried rice looks like a mistake. Super white, like they forgot to flavor it. Maybe they use broth instead of soy sauce? Because it's actually flavorful and tasty. Not entirely sure how they do it. Smoothies are standard but good, although the watermelon is seasonal. Kind of happy to hear that, since it means they're using real fruit, not just some box mix. The only thing I'd skip would be the egg rolls, but all Chinese places have horrible egg rolls. I don't know what happened, but I've had many people agree that like 10 years ago, egg rolls seemed to take a nose dive everywhere. Although, Thee Asian Restaurant in Wicker Park still makes tasty ones. However, Hoy's does have a constant coupon for a free order of crab rangoon with a $20-25 order (can't remember exact total you need to reach). This completely makes up for the bad egg rolls. Their crab rangoon is tasty, and for it being a free order, they don't make it tiny or give you two pieces. It's a full box of them. They also give you tub of sweet and sour sauce. But I actually like the packets better. Oddly, you have to request the packets, and I think they charge you like 50 cents for a bunch of them. It's fine, just weird. So if you do like the packets of mustard or sweet and sour, make sure to request it. They won't just include it with your order. I do pick up usually because it's close and convenient. But when I've done delivery, it's been very quick. Out of the restaurants I've tried, they're the best cheap Chinese food in the area. read more

The people are very nice and the portions are huge. The large chicken fried rice is enough for 4 people. Can't go wrong with this place. there seems to be a new group in here running the place. The chicken looked really bad. I brought some orders to work and everyone thought I was full of it by saying this place was great. I hope they get it together because it's I went back again and there's a definite improvement but still not as good as good as the previous owners. Oh well plus November 1 no more waiters.
