Food was good however the service was terrible. We may have just been inadvertently overlooked but even after bringing to the hostess attention that we had been overlooked and several tables after us had been served she said she would take care of it. We again waited 15 more minutes and more tables were served. Finally a waitress came over, apologised, and said she was very sorry but nobody let her know we were there. The same waitress walked by us at least 2dozen times. We proceeded to put in our order and again took forever people who ordered the same thing 15 minutes after us got theirs before we got ours. The fillet was good and the apple pie à la mode is to die for. We will give it another chance hoping that this service issue was a fluke. read more

Ahh, the good old T-Bone Steakhouse. I've been dining here on and off for 7 or 8 years. Perched on the north slope of South Mountain, the location provides the best view one can get in South Phoenix. Sunsets are delightful up here, inside the spacious old west cowboy dining room, or on the long patio now cooled with a robust misting system for those hot summer evenings. I've stopped in many times for those random "I feel like going out for dinner tonight" meals, a few date nights, a few "just drinks at sunset" nights and even a few 4th of July evenings, because you can see several fireworks shows taking place around the valley. They are the sister restaurant of the historic and famed, but now closed, Pinnacle Peak Patio Steakhouse, which my dad had his tie cut off at while on a business trip to Phoenix some time during the 70's or 80's. My wife and I took a group of friends up to T-Bones a few weeks ago for my first visit in awhile. We sat on the patio and had a grand time. I had a full rack of ribs, which I've been told were on "special" every time I've eaten here as far back as I can recall. Just put them on the menu, guys! Change up the specials a little! Honestly, I've had the ribs when they have been amazing, and also when they have been not so amazing. This time they were OK. Weirdly, half the rack was great, and the other half was tough as nails to the point I couldn't eat it, and it was literally right in the middle of the rack where it went from good to not good. I don't really understand how this is possible. T-Bones makes it's own bbq sauce which is very tasty and really compliments the meat. As usual, the salad bar was awesome, as were all the sides and the massive slices of garlic bread we ordered, and the service was great. My favorite thing on their menu is still the smoked chicken. I've been coming here for almost a decade. Loved this place in the past. I have been bringing family here for years when they visited from out of state and celebrated anniversaries and birthdays here. What changed? Tonight the steak was not even edible. No flavor, overcooked - it actually tasted and had the texture of shoe leather! I sent it back and the next steak was of equal disappointment. The beans had no flavor and the steak had no flavor. This place used to have cowboy style beans and the steak was flavorful and smoky. My dinner was equivalent to a steak at Denny's, but 3x more expensive. I actually boxed up this $24 steak and will be serving it to my dog when I arrive home tonight. We drove over 40 miles one way tonight. Beyond disappointed. Won't be returning... Our family has been dining here on occasion for decades! It's been about 4 years since I was here last! Lots of updates- fully air-conditioned interior, paved parking lot. Paper menus now with cocktail choices! Although I do miss the ambiance of the wooden board menus on the wall and gun-toting servers! The menu is expanded- more steak and fish options. And definitely pricey! So come hungry and with a lot of cash. They took away the small salad bar - and they don't offer the green beans anymore. But the salads are unlimited and tasty! They really know how to cook a steak! My bone-in ribeye was one of the best I've eaten - and plenty left over for breakfast tomorrow! The bread is plentiful and now they are serving a larger sliced wheat bread. And they use the leftovers to make their bread pudding. Their cinnamon ice cream and apple pie is off the chart! Their best dishes are any of the steak dishes with sides of corn and bake potato. This place has good service, but the food is incredibly lacking. Everything is WAY overpriced ($35 for a 14 oz New York strip) and the steak was super bland. Salads are tiny (and also overpriced) and they didn't even have very basic toppings for baked potatoes like cheese or bacon. The beans that were included were very watery and bland as well. For a place that has been in business so long and that specializes in steaks, one would expect to have a steak be flavorful and cooked accurately. My husband and I both requested our steaks to be medium rare. What we got was one filet mignon, very rare, and a ribeye that was so rare in the middle it was shiny and raw and cold to the touch. We had them recooked. But by the time we got them returned to us our dinner companions were now just about finished with their meal. This place is over priced. 38.00 for a 16oz steak. For that price you get a very small salad in what looks to be in an old 6 inch cereal bowl and some watery tateless beans served family style. One fairly small bowl for a table of six. And you get some bread. If you want a baked potato that is 4.00 extra. Same for a small ear of corn or mashed potatoes. The steak was plopped on a white plate with nothing else on it. Same for the salmon and chicken. There was nothing else on the plate. It just seemed odd looking. The steak and chicken were ok but the presentation and the nickel and diming for a potato or an ear of corn seemed petty. Charge the higher price and give people a nice plate of food. read more

If you want a rustic western experience for out of town guests, this is one of the few remaining places in Phoenix. Picnic tables covered in red and white checkered plastic tablecloths and live country music. They even have horses, from the brave souls who rode them from South Mountain Stables, tied up around the back. Awesome views of the city lights are the best thing about this place. With the place located perched on south mountain, you get great views of the city at night while kicking back and enjoying a simple meal. The first time I've tasted mesquite on the meat in 3-4 visits. The manager has never comped anything but has recooked the food. Was what I called Serloin, and a very poor grade, more like canner and cutter. It was $36.00 an I gave over most of it to my dog. We were excited to try this place out, but were extremely disappointed. We sat for 20 mins before anyone even acknowledged we were sitting. We asked three times for refills before they even thought about bringing some to us and when they did they spilled water all over the table and my phone. They forgot to bring out some of the food that was ordered and brought the beans so early that they were cold by the time the steaks came out. The manager took about 10 mins to come out to speak with us after we asked for him, and he looked rather clueless and offered no apologies for how the food came out, the place was near empty when we walked in the door. Don't pay attention to the snob reviewers. No, it's not the best steak in Phoenix. If you have to have the best of everything everywhere you go then that says all we need to know about you. If it's busy, you're going to wait. We call that "science". I really liked my steaks each time I have eaten here. Last trip I spotted someone eating some really good looking ribs.
