I walked to Willie's from my hotel on Van Buren street. It's just .6 miles away. It's a 15 minute walk. I ordered the chicken taco, shrimp taco, and the green Butcher taco with some chips, guacamole and salsa. I only ordered the green butcher because it was listed on the menu as a favorite and I can 100% agree with that opinion! It was my favorite by far! Super tasty! Big and filling! The chips, salsa, and guacamole are all freshly homemade and delicious! I was able to eat 2 out of the 3 tacos, and less than half of the chips and salsa. They all made great leftovers for the next day. The restaurant was empty except for a lone guy who actually looked like Willy Nelson who appeared to be writing music. The only thing I didn't like about the restaurant was the street noise. It's right off of the street and open aired. The restaurant has no control over it, but the loud mufflers in this city are SO annoying! The city really needs to do something about this issue! It's awful. Prices are reasonable. After tax and tip my bill was about $35 for one person, but like I said, it turned into two meals. Definitely would go back for happy hour and order the green butcher again. read more

I like to go to this place before baseball games and sometimes basketball games or concerts. Before an event everyone is pretty hyped and it makes me happy lol the margaritas and micheladas are really good and so far all the food I've had is good. The big fatty burrito has been my first sort of disappointment because it had more beans than anything but luckily their beans are delicious lol so idk how truly disappointing I felt. read more

This place is super cute! It's in a cool area right in downtown Phoenix, super close to the Diamondbacks stadium, Footprint Center, and the Phoenix convention center. The service was good; they were nice but nothing out of the ordinary. I got 2 shrimp tacos - I usually get 3 when I go out for tacos, but they were so expensive!! For just me, I paid like $15, which would have gotten me a full meal at most other restaurants. My favorite items are the chronic dog, the Carne Asada taco and the shrimp tacos. And the Carne Asada fries are so good as well. Probably the best tacos we've ever eaten, one of the tastiest guacamole, Carne asada meat had so much flavor. Cold Modelo wasn't too shabby either. The worst part was being too full to finish the delicious food and then finishing anyways. Only downfall was they have terrible napkins, so grab about 4 times more than you think you need. Met some friends to see a show at the arena. Everything around the arena was packed and on 2+ hour wait times. Came accross this local spot and it was also packed BUT efficient! We stood in line and ordered our food and drinks at the register. We got our food in as little as 15min, considering how busy it was. The food was hot, fresh and authentic! I ordered the three chicken rolled tacos (10/10 recommend). My friends got an assortment of tacos that looked delicious too! If you're by the arena, downtown, definitely check out Willies Taco Joint. The esthetics is kind of rugged, dive bar feeling with inside and outside seating. Let me prefix, that's my kind of spot! We just happened to be in the downtown phoenix area during the day and right before the Diamond Back's game this last Tuesday and we hadn't eaten all day and since Phoenix has all the best what I thought was Authentic Mexican food we choose to stop in here at Willie"s to try out some of their tacos. I started off by walking in and ordering a strawberry margarita now I always get my drinks blended however in this case they didn't have a blender no blender at a restaurant/bar next door to two stadiums? Ok whatever I got past that and told the bartender that on the rocks was fine as long as I could get the plastic cup rimmed with sugar and she was fine with that $13 later ouch for a small plastic cup. So then we placed our food order I got a two carne asada taco combo but here's where I had the issue one the food came out terribly cold and second the asada was a strange mix of ground asada and chopped that was heavily salted with a Lawry's taco seasoning packet taste I was crazy salty. My boyfriend ordered a asada burrito with the same strange meat in it that was over salted and super greasy to the point of being able to see the grease separating from the seasoning. The ambience is really cool and the cocktail was good but pricy our food however fell super short and I can't in good taste recommend the asada here maybe the chicken or seafood is better? I can't honestly tell you. But if you like good expensive standard cocktails right before a game then this is your place. read more
