First time here!! I walked in and ordered. They said it would be a 20 minute wait. So I ordered a glass of wine. Which the guy poorer extra for the wait. Very nice! But the food was done a lot sooner. I was still able to sit at the bar and sip on my wine. As I was finishing a female employee came to ask if I needed water. Very nice and needed before I rushed home to eat my food after downing a glass of wine. She wanted to make sure I made it home safe. Very much appreciated. The decor inside was nice. Modern/traditional. You could tell there were regulars in attendance. That always says a lot!! As for the food. Good quality sushi, and the Spicy edamame and Bulgogi!! Sushi fell a part a bit because it was surrounded by the hot food. Overall yummy! Totally worth the wait and we will be returning

This was our first time visiting. We went on a Friday evening, 5p, during Happy Hour. The place is a good size, clean and cozy and the staff is super friendly. Our waiter explained some of the items on the menu, and he even suggested we get a different menu item as we'd get more food if we did. The food items were delicious. We originally were going to get just appetizers, but we figured we'd try a meal as well. The ramen bowl had a nice touch of spice, and they give you so much I actually ate over the course of two days. The teriyaki chicken was good. My wife would have preferred a bit more sauce, but I'm sure they would have given it to us had we asked. All in, we spent about $70, including tip and 2 small Sake Bombs

First timer and we will be back. Clean. Great service. Amazing food! My kids loved it. Large portion for chicken katsu dinner. Sunrise roll was super yummy. Love the low sodium soy sauce on the table. Excited to see happy hour deals and the sashimi was nice and large. Excited to return and love that it's in Ahwatukee! Came for the lunch special. Got the sashimi plate. Fresh and delicious!

After looking on Yelp for dinner recommendations on July 21, 2023, we decided on Tabe-Mono. Get this............I have nothing negative to report! LOL It started well when I called ahead and asked about the wait time. A lady who didn't quite understand me got a gentleman to take my question. He responded in a friendly, inviting way. For those of you that read my reviews, you know I'm a hard judge when it comes to Japanese cuisine. For me, I wait until I visit California, New York, Vancouver B.C. and Japan for grand Japanese food. As for the greater Phoenix area, I think the choices are limited for us but there are a few places I'd frequent again. Cherry Blossom Noodle Cafe, Hana Japanese Eatery and now Tabe Mono. I like the food at Tabe Mono! It's true that Tabe can't compare authentic tastes to Cherry Blossom or Hana but Tabe does execute sushi rolls and tempura well! Their salmon skin roll ($4.95 on Happy Hour ) rice to filling balance was perfect. The nori was NOT chewy like the last restaurant we dined out at. Their Las Vegas roll ($8.95 Happy Hour) was delicious. So good we ordered two! The flash frying of the batter was done just right and was served with the ideal amount of eel sauce. (Not over saturated.) I also like their vegetable tempura. ($4.95 Happy Hour) It was refreshing to enjoy a light, crispy batter on the vegetables- similar to what my mom would cook. Service was attentive and polite. The other diners looked happy and a few of the regulars strolled in with their kids. This created a positive ambiance. I sipped the last of my sake as we were getting ready to leave and thought, I'd definitely return!

3 item lunch special with shrimp tempura roll wrapped in soy paper, tempura mix, and gyoza. Free soup salad and rice, total 13.95!

This place has been on my list to check out for quite some time, and now that I've been I'm bummed I have an already been going! You've GOT TO TRY try thlunch special! What a phenomenal deal, and totally customizable based on your tastes. Lisa was our server and did a phenomenal job with great customer service, and awesome suggestions. Ambience was very chill and comfortable, and the sushi chef was also very friendly. Can't wait to come back and bring more people to this hidden gem. And wow, I'm not vegan but that vegan portion of the menu is pretty impressive.

Still a great lunch spot every time we go there. It is the best Japanese food in the general area. The food is always excellent, and you can choose from a wide range of choices in their lunch specials. The sushi is really good here, if you don't order from the lunch specials, all of the rolls and sashimi I've tried here are really good. It was very quiet when we went there after the typical lunch hour had finished, so the service was also fast. Recommended!

I love coming here! The service is incredible (and knowledgeable), the ambience lovely and the food is amazing. To top it off, they have a couple different "adds" to the menu we generally don't see at sushi restaurants. For one there is an extensive vegan menu. The servers are very well versed in vegan and will explain to you how they make it and what is in the dish. They also have a Japanese dish called Shabu Shabu. My understanding (havent tried it yet, but next trip!) it is a broth that comes with different veggies and beef, if you eat beef, where they bring everything for you to cook at the table! How fun is that?! They are large so it is a shareable and also available in vegan. My last note for everyone is their happy hour. They have an extensive roll, appetizer and drink menu that is priced perfectly! You can try so many different rolls at a fraction of the regular price. Just make sure you get there before 6pm when it is over! Make sure to search out and try Tabe-Mono. It will not disappoint!

We pulled up about 30 min til closing. There was nobody else in the restaurant and we asked if they were okay to serve. The staff was more than welcoming, asked us to please come in and enjoy a meal. Not only was the service here great, but the food and ambiance were too. I also thought it was incredibly cost effective compared to other sushi spots. We'll definitely be back!

Vegan sashimi and vegan monsoon roll - delicious!!

The service here was excellent! I wish I could remember his name, but our server was super friendly and attentive. We learned so much about this style of eating. We started with the vegan monsoon roll which was amazing! We were also served some complimentary vegan sashimi which was just like the real thing. We then had the vegan Shabu-Shabu (hot pot). It came with an excellent variety of vegetables, udon noodles, tofu, vegan shrimp and vegan ham, steamed rice and sauces. We loved it all except for the vegan ham. It just didn't seem to go with the meal. Next time I'll skip that and ask for more tofu. They have so many other vegan options on the menu as well, so we will definitely be back soon!

We were intrigued by their vegan friendly hotpot and menu... vegan friendly?? More like vegan family!! We enjoyed the vegan menu and the servers were very well versed on the menu and what it offers. Hotpot vegan set includes sashimi, and for the hotpot, we got bacon, shrimp, (both vegan!) tofu and a assortment of vegetables. It was so helpful that the server recommended to warm up the shrimp and bacon, because if you left it in there too long, it can overcook. It was a great tip. Everything we ordered was delicious! I was most impressed with the monsoon roll and the popcorn shrimp! Honestly, so good! The shrimp was fresh and crispy, again, it's vegan. And my husband never gets to eat sushi, yet today he was able to, and it was on point! I was so surprised the monsoon roll was vegan!

I will definitely be returning to this lovely gem. As a vegetarian I'm often baffled by how little creativity most sushi restaurants have when it comes to offering a few slightly better than basic rolls but I'm happy to say this wasn't the case w/Tabe-Mono. I loved my rolls! The server was wonderful and described what was in each so I went with one of his recommendations. Beautiful presentation and delicious! I loved the service as well, they work as a team and everyone was on point! Friendly, knowledgeable and super attentive, what more could you want? Both my other half and myself were very pleased with our experience. Can't wait to visit again, just wish we lived a bit closer.

I am actually not a fan of sushi but love Japanese food. We just moved to the area and came in on their soft opening. The restaurant is so clean and well lit. We ordered gyoza, shrimp tempura, and miss soup. Which were amazing starters for our meal. We ordered two specialty rolls which were caterpillar roll and shrimp roll with love sauce. They were actually delicious this was my first time actually liking the rolls and I've tried sushi over 10 times. Great employees and warm vibe! Will come back! read more

I'm not usually even the person to write a bad review! The service was sooo horrible no one ever came to refill the drinks we kept having to raise our hand to get a refill. The hot pot came out and there was barely any soup for 9 people to eat and when we ask can we have more soup water was told you have pleanty. The girl with the glasses took our order wrong and by the time we notice that we was missing some of the order it was closing time. 9 people at the table eatting hot put and was given 3 sause bowl and was told if you want more will be additional charge. Don't waste your time eatting this overcharged restaurant. Try Jin shabu you will see the difference! read more

Love this place! The sushi was great, and they had a good sushi selection on happy hour. We came especially for the shabu shabu and it did not disappoint. We did brisket and seafood and tried two different broths. It was all delicious. They even have mochi ice cream 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be going back. read more

I know sushi ken was replaced (management) by them and I have to say this place taste nothing like a Japanese restaurant. Coming from Japan to here and knowing what sushi ken had to offer, this place was disappointing/ pathetic. The chicken karaage taste like chicken nuggets. Although chicken karaage is boneless, they shouldn't taste exactly like chicken nuggets. The waiter told me that's exactly how she describes it to kids and i feel like that's exactly who they're meant for. The original ramune drink taste like a watered down sprite. There's only one Japanese worker that I saw and he was working the sushi, I feel like they need to have Japanese cooks at a Japanese restaurant. Overall I'd give it a 2/10, only bc the edamame was good. read more

A variety of high quality vegan options keeps me coming back. Be sure to what vegan options they have beyond the menu. There are always 4 or more. The konjac-based tuna and salmon style vegan sashimi is visually appealing and tastes great. It won't fool an omni sushi lover but is a great vegan alternative. Staff is always friendly and engaging. Since they upgraded the inside at the beginning they f the year the inside is just as welcoming as the staff. read more

We went to this place for the first time after the new owners took over, hoping that it was the same quality. Unfortunately that was not the case. Upon entering we immediately noticed a smell that made it hard to even consider eating here. We were wondering if others that came in noticed the smell. Giving it the benefit of the doubt we stuck it out. Decor was definitely updated nicely. Also noticed the prices had been updated too. Knowing it's the prices are reflective of the increase of prices everywhere, we ordered. We ordered sashimi and a few rolls. Neither were worth the price. Slices of sashimi were lack luster and the rolls were tiny. So disappointing that the quality was not the same. Service was good and attentive. After leaving my family and I realized that the smell was related to bad fish- everyone in my party got ill after leaving. I like to support local restaurants but will not be return to this restaurant. read more

My husband and I tried this place out as a closer alternative to our usual spot. We ordered a sashimi plate, dragon roll, and cucumber salad. Everything was delicious and fresh. The only thing my husband wished was that the bulgogi bowl wasn't on the lunch menu only. The chef even gave us toro marinated in soy sauce on the house. It was amazing! read more

We stumbled upon this gem on accident. Our regular sushi joint was closed and we remember Sushi Ken being here. The moment we walked in we were greeted with enthusiasm and the service was top notch. It was then that we realized something had changed. The server said it was under new ownership with a new menu and new name. My husband immediately could tell the quality of ingredients was one of the best he's had. They made us a few custom items and were professional, courteous and friendly. To top it off they were having a 20% off grand opening special! Anyway we were thoroughly impressed and will be back again and again. Can't wait to try the Shabu next time, it looked so good! read more

They blow torched the top of the salmon and had a really good sauce that made it taste like none other I've had before. Me and my wife like shabu. We found this new place and decide to try it out and we were not disappointed. First of all, It is not an AYCE place. But the portion is generous and the meat quality is so good that i would totally choose this over ayce place. I got the short ribs with miso and my wife got the pork belly with sukiyaki. read more

This amazing place is like a hidden treasure. Very clean environment, organized and welcoming. As soon as you step in you are greeted. Waiters we very kind and was patient to explain the meals. VERY fresh food. Sushi was perfect. And the soups were amazing. All meats are in great condition and again Very fresh. Food wasn't so filling that you felt overwhelmed but it was filling to the point you felt very good and satisfied. Over all I would 100% recommended this place!!! read more

I was skeptical to come in to this place. I have been a fan of Sushi Ken for more than 10 years it was disappointing to hear that they were under new management. With that being said, I came in tonight expecting something bad because it couldn't be better.... Instead it was something even better than I anticipated. The food, the service and the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful and pleasant. Service was highly attentive, immediate and personable. The food was a step above my expectations and the variety was good even for a soft opening. Very accommodating and well serviced... I will be back here again. read more

honestly the food was okay the soup was good. the reason for this review is for the bad customer service. the lady that was serving us was really rude she never came back to ask us if we wanted anything else so a different server had to come over and take our order. second server was just as bad ask for more soup waiter reply there is plenty really .it's honestly not worth eating here. read more

We moved here a little over a year ago and have been searching for a Japanese style Shabu shabu restaurant. If you're looking for GOOD authentic Japanese shabu shabu, this is your place. We drive 30 minutes each way for this restaurant and visit once a week. So worth it and so good. read more

Lunch today and was pleased with Rebecca who seated and waited on us. Started with some very good marinated cucumbers. We ordered a shrimp nigiri a rainbow roll, California Roll and baked mussels. There was an unsavory flavor that was likely from the sushi rice. What was most disappointing was brown avocados used in the rolls. Looked very unappetizing and was changing to eat. I know it's a soft open but train your staff to at least use fresh ingredients. The shrimp nigiri was inedible and muscles over baked. The rainbow roll had a scant amount of fish for the price point. Overall disappointment and not likely returning. I don't mind paying for quality and this was not one of those moments. During our visit two parties were seated and left before even ordering. That should tell you something. Use a soft open and generate feedback from guests to server to management. read more

Hmmm, I wanted to like them but I had an ok experience. The sashimi was fresh and they had bluefin. But the hot pot was unreasonably expensive and you didn't get much vegetables or noodles or meat. It is strange as there are other hot pot places that have figured it out. This place is new and struggling to organize with knowledgeable staff. Maybe their location keeps the awhatukee people happy without having to travel to mesa for Asian food read more

This is not like the typically hot pot spots where they bring you the broth and meats/veggies separately to cook yourself. You pick a "soup" premade and it comes to your table in a hot clay pot. It's a bit heavier broth. Definitely not what my taste buds enjoy. However my husband liked it. I don't think I'll dine here again only because I prefer the cook myself experience, simple ingredients, and lighter broth.

We were in the mood for sushi and decided to stop in, and by pure luck, we arrived during happy hour, which was a pleasant surprise. The menu had a great selection, and we were excited to try a few different rolls. The sushi did not disappoint--it was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared, making for an enjoyable start to our meal. In addition to sushi, we ordered the teriyaki chicken, hoping for a well-balanced and satisfying dish. Unfortunately, one of the orders arrived undercooked and had to be sent back. While mistakes happen, the biggest disappointment was the timing--it took so long for the corrected dish to return that everyone else had already finished eating by the time it arrived. This put a damper on the experience, as no one enjoys watching others eat while waiting for their own food to be redone. That being said, the service itself was excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly, and quick to address the issue with the chicken, which we appreciated. Despite the hiccup, the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting, and we still enjoyed our meal, especially the sushi. I'm not normally a reviewer, but I felt like I needed to defend and slightly knock Tabe-Mono. First off, I think all of the good reviews on the quality of the food are on point. The sushi and shabu shabu are great. Great quality & great price. Buuuuutttttt.... I didn't want to believe it, but the service is where the points get knocked off. Everyone is very friendly and want to be helpful, but you can see it's a short-staffing issue. It took an hour to get our hot pot to start cooking, by then, we already had people in our party who were done with dinner which was a bummer. I think they just need to get a little bit more staff in there to help with the wait times and to check on customers if they need anything and then they'll be awesome! They are the better sushi place in the area so It is worth the visit and worth the take out try. read more

I swear under legal affidivit that what I am about to say is 100% true. This is a new ownership replacing Sushi Ken. The have an entire menu etc. That's not the problem. After I ordered drinks and I went to the restroom. A person wearing a staff shirt came out of the toilet and did not wash his hands. Whether he is a waiter or cook, doesn't matter.
