Pretty cool spot. We ate out on the patio on Sunday night. There was a three piece band playing and they added to the ambiance. The menu, for dinner, is somewhat limited, but there are enough selections to warrant a return trip. I had a tuna sandwich, wife had mahi and shrimp. She said the mahi was excellent, the shrimp lacked any flavor punch. Friends had the ribs and I tasted that dish, the ribs are good, and fall-off-the-bone tender. Had the nachos as an appetizer, they were good, but actually used canned nacho cheese....a bit weird. Overall its a good spot for a low-key dinner or a lunch. I would give it 0 Stars If I could. We were told we would be seated in 20-30 min and waited over an hour. When we checked in on our space on the waitlist we were consistently told there were only a few parties ahead of us. We came to the dog show and it was my first time eating here. We loved the patio as it was a lovely day.. I ordered the WEDGE SALAD with GRILLED SHRIMP and IT WAS THE BEST I HAVE EATEN IN MANY YEARS!! Beautifully presented and a generous portion ( only $9 for Salad & extra for the Shrimp $7??) so I shared a aa big taste with my friend. How this place has 4 stars is completely beyond my imagination. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about it. I will say the service was fairly good but that's about it. Noisy, uncomfortable, nasty, ill dressed employees, terrible food are just some of the things that come to mind after last nights visit. Service was really under standard. Sat for 20 minutes before saw anyone. Ordered food and only after everyone else's food came out did waitress tell us that the pizza oven had already closed so one guest had to reorder. He ordered steak and it was well done instead of medium. Then we weren't offered any dessert or discount for the trouble. The rest of us sat and waited for our one poor guest to finish his burnt $$ steak instead of having the pizza he ordered. You guys can do better than this surely? read more

Our "lead organizer" called earlier on Thursday to ask if we could reserve a table outside for 17 people. The guy she talked to said to call 30 minutes before arriving to get on the wait list. When she called 30 minutes before we got there she was rudely told there is no waitlist and you just have to show up and take your chances. So we did. Unfortunately, there were already 2 large parties and they'd just been seated and the wait time was at least 45 minutes but more likely an hour and we would have been seated at several tables, not necessarily near each other. The hostess was not at all friendly, accommodating or apologetic and didn't offer any suggestions. It really is a fun place to go. You meet polo players and people from the city of La Quinta in Indio. The food is great and so are the people and the ambience is incredible. You can sit outside or inside the able to please. The service is incredible. They're great people there working and I wish I were younger because that would be a place that I would love to work with me so many interesting people. read more

I'm always going to the Tavern and every time it is on point. The kale salad with salmon or steak is my favorite. They also make a killer burger. There are a few on the menu but in my opinion the best one is the Empire Burger. If you are ordering takeout the fries get a little soft but thats normal anywhere you go. We totally enjoy the ambience and friendliness of this establishment! The food is OK, its a fun bar, which is the draw. My complaint Is in the billing procedure. This evening we joined "many" friends for dinner, drinks and dancing to the wonderful band. Upon arrival 6 of our friends were seated with drinks, bottles of wine and appetizers. Extra chairs were found and we filled in, The waiter showed up instantly, and I pointed to my husband across the table and said that we would be sharing. Drinks, appetizers and a meal were ordered, there's some light went on we ordered another round of drinks. They were very good about splitting our entrée and our salad (an extra three dollars for each split). We had to leave early as we had another commitment. I found our waiter & asked for our check. This is the point the service went into the gutter.... I was given a bill for the eight of us. When I asked why 'he had not mentioned this little nuance, upon our first ordering and gesturing that we wanted a check for the 2 of us' The Waiter got Belligerent and showed me ... at the very bottom of the menu, There IS 'one line' stating they do not break-up checks for tables of eight or more. OK, we had to leave early and only had a credit card.... NOT THE BEST WAY to create good will and also lazy. When you show up A bit later, and want to place your order to catch up, who looks at the bottom of the page for some rule. The waiter SHOULD have alerted us at the time. Better yet, how terribly hard is it to break up the check nowadays? Oh, by the way, within 20 minutes five more independent friends showed up, found more chairs and joined our party. Been here for lunch, dinner, happy hour, birthday parties, Christmas parties, hanging in the bar or booths it's a fun place to bring your visitors. They get a kick out of the saddles and the landscaped grounds. Food is good, music is good, laid back atmosphere. If you are a local you will no doubt bump into someone here. My husband and I stopped by the Tack Room one evening after an art show we were participating in this last weekend. I loved the interior with the open beam log ceiling in a hogan design. They had bar seating, high top tables, low tables and booths....choose your preference. It was very rustic and comfortable, then in the center of the room was a large chandelier, I loved the irony of it. The staff was very friendly. We ordered drinks and some potato skins. The skins were delicious and the drinks were effective. The waiter described the dinner special to us and we wanted to come back to try it out. Unfortunately the person we were staying with had other plans. If I lived locally it might become a local haunt. I'll definitely try to go back next time I'm in town. read more

Great ambiance, love the saddles and ranch-like decor. The Kobe burger is to die for. Not a big red meat eater but make an exception for this place. The bartenders are great and from time to time there will be live music. Great overall value for the money -true hidden gem for either a quick bite or stately dinner. Would recommend for adults. While patio dining can likely accommodate children, it's more of a bar or lounge setting inside. We love it here and would highly recommend. read more

For the most part this place is ok. I've been several different times and the reason I'm giving four stars is because of their inconsistency. Some days the service is great and others it sucks. Have been going to the Tack Room for a number of years, and always enjoyed the venue and the food. Yesterday was an exception. Three of us arrived just after 5:30, and told 15 to 20 minute wait. Four people showed up after us, and after 20 minutes, they were seated ahead of us. When I asked the hostess why they were seated ahead of us, I was told they had to seat 4 people at the table that came available, as it seated 4??? When I responded that I have never seen tables for 3, she said that it was just the way it was, and we would have to wait for a table. We continued to wait almost 30 minutes more, at which point, we were seated at a table for 4! The dinner experience was "unusual". I ordered the Kobi burger, that I had had a number of times before. Our server stated, "that is my favorite item on the menu...I have that all the time". I asked if there were onions on it (not remembering for certain), and he stated twice there were no onions. When it arrived, it had a raw onion AND caramelized onions on it. Worse though, was the bacon was refrigerator-cold. I noted this to our server, he took my plate away, and brought back microwaved bacon on the burger. As well, my onion rings had clearly been sitting for some time, as they were only slightly warm. My wife's chicken sandwich arrived, with a "dollop" of mozzarella cheese, the chicken was lukewarm, and the coleslaw had a sizable amount of lettuce in it, and there was virtually no dressing. Our guest ordered the beef dip, and stated it was not that hot, and her onion rings were only slightly warm as well. It was her first visit there, and she did not appear impressed. To add insult to the experience, while waiting outside, I was told we could go to the bar and order a "happy hour" drink and bring it outside while waiting. The bartender poured a class of house Cabernet for me, that was about 3/4 of the pour she was pouring for others. I didn't say anything, so as not to create a scene, but she could see that I was looking at my pour and over at the others she was pouring, and she simply handed me the bill and walked away. We have praised the Tack Room for so many years, but all-in-all, a very disappointing experience. We had just been there a few weeks ago with friends who had never been there before who brought their dog, and it was a much better experience, although we noted that the tuna sandwiches we ordered were filled with much less tuna than we used to be served. So sad to see such a combination of unpleasant occurrences and experiences all in one evening, across all areas of the restaurant. We appreciate things are tough with Covid and all, but Covid is no excuse for being seated last (there were no others waiting by the time we got seated), and to have mediocre food that was not even hot, is not reasonable. Perhaps their popularity gives them a sense that customer service, and providing hot and well-prepared food is no longer necessary - as long as the restaurant continues to be well attended. read more

Came here to avoid the Easter crowd and it worked! Now I understand why they went elsewhere. Food was edible, no one got sick (can't really recall what we all had, but typical breakfast fare like bacon, eggs, steak...etc); Steak was medium well when it was ordered rare. 2 of us ordered the AYCD Mimosa and they were dry most of the time. My Bloody Mary was bland, even a spicy V8 would have tasted better. The server was friendly enough, at first...but he tried to take my plate away when I was still eating. Service was TERRIBLE!!! Took an hour and a half to serve our party of 13. I ordered a pulled pork Quesadilla and was the last one served. The food was very good and that is the worst part because I do not think we will be going back. Our table had everything from Ribs to Chicken Caesar Salad and it was all really good. Maybe a different server would have been better. Our guy seemed a bit annoyed by us when we got here. I even saw him smile at his other tables, just not our group. Date if visit: May 6, 2023. We are full-time residents of La Quinta and, after all these years, this was our first visit to the Tack Room Tavern. We were pleasantly surprised. The menu had everything from bar appetizers to burgers, salads to filet mignon and salmon. Full bar with an impressive selection of beer, wine and cocktails. The club sandwich was fresh and delicious. They didn't skimp on the portion of the Turkey breast. The "Whiskey Rings" (their version of onion rings) were delicious. Did not taste like grease, but had a wonderful and unique flavor. Our server, Maylina, provided great service. Around 3PM, it started to fill up for which I'm guessing is their Happy Hour. Well Done!! This is the only restaurant I've been to that is doing Covid Precautions right. Temperature screening for guests and employees. Masks are only allowed off while you are seated. The tack room is always good. They have two separate bars with a beautiful patio and outdoor live stage. I've had a few things on the menu, but mostly I enjoy having a nice glass of scotch at the bar. Although I've had drinks here on several occasions, this past Sunday was the first time I've eaten here. I was with a very large group -- 23 of us -- for brunch. I started with a bloody mary, which was good, but I've never been a big fan of the "drink in a mason jar" thing. After that, I moved on to mimosas, which were a good deal at $5 for the first one, and then $1 for each refill after that. For food, I had the biscuits and gravy, which were topped with scrambled eggs; they were pretty good, and I easily polished them off. Our waiter did a good job, considering how many of us there were, and how many mimosas were being consumed (hint: enough to fill a kiddie pool). Perhaps some Sunday after polo, I'll have to stop in here for an early dinner. read more
