This Taco Boy's just recently opened at this central Tempe location, practically across the street from the ASU campus. The menu has a nice collection of Mexican fast-food favorites; however, on the day I visited, I just tried the tacos. The tacos are available with corn or wheat tortillas, and I chose corn, of course. I chose Barbacoa, Pastor, and Asada for my three types of meat. There was a well-stocked condiments bar, with most of the toppings you would want to add to a taco - all the selections were very fresh. The well-cooked meats, and the fresh toppings, made for some delicious tacos. I would love to come back here on my next trip to Phoenix and try some of the other items on the menu. At the front of the restaurant was a line of 20 beer taps that are used for self-serve beer pouring. They weren't operational when I visited; not sure if that was because I got here so early in the morning or if they aren't set up yet (probably the later). read more

I was craving tacos, and I looked up tacos nearby ASU. And luckily for me, I found Taco Boys. The parking was easy to get in to. The lines to order was so long and took about 10 minutes to order. And then to order half of the drinks we're sold out. Which was a bummer but! The food totally made up for it. Although pricing not so much. For 11 tacos de Asada, 3 tacos de Al pastor, a small quesadilla, carne Asada fries, and 3 sodas= $70 which isn't bad but it wasn't like a good thing. They have a topping's bar for your tacos. Was recommended here by a friend and the tacos were pretty good but I would not put them in my top 5 of ones I've had. Also you choose between corn and flour tortillas. Pastor - I was a little upset by the lack of pineapple and sweet flavor. Pastor is my favorite tacos but these were maybe a 6/10 for me. Barbacoa - this was my favorite mainly because many places don't serve barbacoa and it was full of flavor and juiciness. Every bite was delicious - paired with some salsa is perfect. 9/10 Asada - overall a 6/10 because I prefer my Asada a little more on the charred side or to have some sort of charring on the meat. While the meat was too salty for us here, Taco Boys probably makes the best street tacos I've had in Phoenix. I had asada, pollo, and barbacoa, all with flour tortillas. It took a while to come out, but that's because it's all freshly and carefully made. My favorite was the barbacoa - definitely get it! My husband got the asada burrito, and said it was on point. The unlimited salad and sauce bar is awesome of them to offer! I haven't seen that here yet. I loved the whole radish, pickled onions, cabbage, and red sauces. Even though they're busy and famous, it doesn't seem like service is snooty. They brought out a complimentary Modelo on the house for my husband, I think because our food took a bit longer to come out. Ambiance is really young and loud; my husband and I definitely were not cool enough to hang out here with our baby! Most people were college students. Taco boys are great place in Phoenix. It is definitely barely lively in there and the tacos are no frills but they are delicious. The only thing that doesn't give this a five star review is it's a little tricky to park and to order and wait for your food but other than that it's a great and amazing experience. read more

This was our second visit to Taco Boys and this Tempe location. Parking is a challenge so be warned that the parking lot is tight and there are several other restaurants and businesses in this same complex so you may have to drive around for a bit. Also, the south side of the lot is shared with Dutch Bros., so maneuvering on that end of the building is even more of a challenge. You order and then go sit and then they call your name and you go back up to collect your order. Everything is served on Styrofoam, not my first choice! Wife had to try the Vampiro this time around, which means they crust the tortilla (crispy) and the meat. She loved it! We had the carne asada again, just the most flavorful meat, cooked to perfection...moist and flavorful! I also tried the barbacoa, which was seasoned well and moist and the best! My new favorite for sure! Wife also got an order of the grilled green onions and jalapeno, which was so delicious! We also got an order of chips and they have a great salsa bar that has everything you need to complete your chips and tacos and burritos! Their guac is totally creamy and good, not spicy at all. They also offer huge radishes, pico, shredded cabbage, pickled onions, and other toppings. We truly love eating here! I found one of my new go-to's in Tempe. Taco Boy's is great for many reasons: tasty good food, reasonable prices and great service. I can't really ask for more. The carne asada tacos are delicious and tasty. I recommend either the corn or flour tortilla. Although I usually like corn tacos, the flour tortillas are super tasty and would recommend. I have also ordered the quesadilla. I ordered the small one because I'm slightly lactose intolerant so I didn't want to upset my stomach. To my pleasant surprise, the quesadilla was primarily meat rather than cheese. Don't get me wrong, I could still taste the cheese, which was delicious, but I appreciate the quesadilla was substantive with meat. The establishment has a condiment bar with a variety of salsas and sides like cucumbers and radish, which I appreciated because you choose what and how much I wanted to add to my tacos. I first tried this place yesterday and came back today...and now I'm thinking about how I can make an excuse to come back this weekend. But, let's be honest, I don't need to make an excuse, right. Al pastor was VERY good! Carne asada was average. Their meat has many fatty pieces () and although I don't mind a little gristle, I found it to be a little too much. I also ordered some tortilla chips, as they are not complimentary like most places (). The chips were not very good (), as they tasted too processed for my homemade taste buds! Salsas were good. Overall, it's a solid taco place, but because I'm a taco connoisseur, I would try out other places when I'm in town. Taco Boy's Tempe location was non stop busy for a Thursday evening at 6:30pm and pretty much continued through the night. Tough finding an available table to sit or at least a clean table as no one was wiping off any tables. We ordered our dinner and then they call out your name, there is a self serve drink dispenser so free refills. Carna Asado Tacos are street taco size and then you go to the salsa bar to add your toppings which is a good selection. Pretty good flavor and tasting. Carna Asada Burro was also very good, perfect temperature where not to hot spicy but good flavor. Food was tasty and reasonable to cheap on the wallet. Only need to be a little bit more clean and wipe off tables and clear off tables in between people coming and going. read more

10 stars!!! I'm a Sonoran, from there, carne asada expert and let me tell you, this place is legit. Great quality carne asada, expertly GRILLED but not Smokey. Not dry. Not gamey. Not old tasting. Freshly made even at 230 PM. The quality of the meat as well as the preparation were spot on. Great salsas. The pastor pork is seasoned/marinated very good as well, a less saucy version also chargrilled, more common to Sonoran/northern pastor (versus the southern style). I think these may be the best carne asada tacos in Phoenix, and I've tried many places (not all but many). Can't wait to come back, please open a location in Tucson!!! read more

This is such a fun new taco shop, they have a location in PHX but have expanded to Tempe!! We got 2 Al pastor tacos, 2 carne asada tacos, and a carne asada quesadilla. The quesadilla (large) was massive. For $10 they stuffed it with meat and it was so tasty but so big I couldn't finish it. We went with a couple of friends who tried other tacos and the takeaway was Al Pastor is the best and everyone would just get that when we come back. The horchata was also delicious, and also a big size for the price! Overall well priced, delicious Mexican food. Get Al pastor and and carne asada quesadilla and a horchata!! We visited here on 12/26/2022. The place was PACKED with people!!! It was a good 15-20 minute wait for our food. People were patient, just hanging out and waiting in the restaurant. No craziness. Employees were friendly and efficient. Nice hang out, take it easy and eat place! You ordered at the register, filled up your own salsa, etc. and just waited until they called your name/number. I read all these reviews saying the meat was really tender, so I ordered two carne asada this and one barbacoa taco, and the chips and salsa and not only was the asada chopped up in large pieces, they were so tough I had to keep spitting it out, and the meat had no flavor. I didn't taste this mesquite fired flavor at all. The barbacoa was at least more edible. The chips were also so stale, we just threw it out. The salsa bar was also subpar. If you want the REAL DEAL, this is the place. I have not had tripa in years! I thought the next time I would have it, would be at a trip in Mexico or California, but to know that I have it is just a few minutes away... I am extremely happy. I brought my dad and his girlfriend here to try the place with me and I believe they got one taco of each of the selections. They said all of it was delicious and want to come back soon. The beer wall is great! They have a good selection and made us stay for hours due to the beer wall and the atmosphere. The only thing I didn't see were jalapeños, but I don't mind bringing my own next time. There were a lot of people when we got there, but the service was quick. I could not stand the extreme level of noise blaring from the stereo and both TVs. I'm aware this place isn't catering to middle-aged people like myself. But I watched the table of young people next to me struggle to have a conversation by yelling over the table before they gave up. I also watched the staff yell the same name out repeatedly because most of us couldn't make sense of the name they were yelling. So this extreme noise level isn't working for anyone, regardless of age. I thought maybe I showed up on an off day? But in checking these Yelp reviews, I found 32 that mention the loud noise. So, basically, this place is being purposefully obnoxious. As for the food, it was mediocre though the serving size is good for the price. The asada was flavorless and the barbacoa was overly salted. The toppings bar has no labels, so you don't know what is in the salsas (bad for people with allergies) or what heat level to expect. read more

First time at taco boys, as we were dropping off my Sun Devil. What a fantastic taco joint. The staff was great. The food was fantastic and tacos were $3.50 each. I recommend the beef cheek tacos. They also have this preparation, that I don't remember what it is, but it becomes a crispy tortilla with cheese and meat and it is so epically good. They have a fixings bar that you can get everything you want, and all you want for your tacos or burritos or whatever else you order. The freshly cooked meats and savory smells hit you once you enter the door. The customer service was 5 star, everyone behind the counter were so polite and patient and seemed joyful. The cashier immediately told me there is a salsa bar if I'd like to get anything! They had a lot of variety for the salsa/condiment counter but I ended up picking up cucumber, cabbage, lime, verde salsa and chunky red salsa. I ordered a Plato of Barbacoa and Pastor which came with a side of refried beans and I picked flour tortillas instead of corn. Everything was perfect. I wanted to like Taco Boys but there was one thing that drove me out of the restaurant and I won't return until it is fixed: the noise level. We arrived around 6:30 PM and when we walked in, the music was blaring. We figured we could find a seat away from the speakers, so we ordered our food. We then tried to find a table that was not next to the extremely loud speakers. No luck. So we took a seat and waited for our food. Then, they decided to turn up the TV which was playing the Simpsons. And they bumped the volume up as high as they could. So you had blaring music and a blaring TV. It was a mess. I opened up my decibel app and the noise was registering at 90 dB!!! That is really loud and I hope the employees know that under OSHA standards, anything over 80 dB is a threat to long term hearing. Then, the workers had to scream our names as loud as they could so we could retrieve our food. At first, I couldn't understand them. So, they yelled again. Finally, I figured out they were saying my name. We ate as fast as we could and then left just as quickly. Once we stepped outside our ears were ringing. And we were only in there about 30 minutes. As for the food, it was decent. We liked our tacos, but the chips were stale. The salsa and toppings bar is nice but they don't have labels on the salsas so you don't know the heat level. Would I go back? Nope. I value my hearing. Even if I ordered take out, I don't need to be subjected to that level of noise. Even for five minutes. read more
