Wonderful, fresh, high-quality tacos at a great price! We ordered all their tacos: Steak, Chicken, and Al Pastor. Each one was fresh, flavorful, and had a nice kick of spice. The chicken taco was juicy and perfectly seasoned, the steak was tender with great seasoning, and the Al Pastor was delicious but definitely on the spicier side. Like many others have said to start off with this place you have to say three words: GAS STATION BURRITOS. Is not a four-star dining establishment, it's located in an Arco where the cashiers are surrounded by 360° of solid bullet-proof glass. (Funnily enough the taco ladies do not get any of this protection, I wonder why?) But if you can live with this you will be presented with a super heavy steak filled burrito that is definitely worth the five dollar price. It also comes with a small side of chips which isn't substantial but gets the job done. For prices ranging from about $1 to $2 you can also get soda which includes up to a 40 ounce cup with $1 refills. One negative is I wish they would give you some salsa they just put it in the burrito but you don't really have an extra portion of salsa to eat your burrito with. I also did have 1/2 pieces of gristly meat --- I'll say it again however: gas station. But honestly I'm reviewing a gas station here. Order your tacos with the ladies at Taco Express then proceed to pay the cashier (with the bill) behind the ultra thick bullet resistant wall inside the gas station mini mart. Best thing about these tacos...you can pay by credit card or debit (I think there's a small fee for debit though). Tacos are made fresh and fast. The tacos are tasty (get the hot salsa rather than the mild) and they are affordable. We usually call in our orders and come pick them up by the dozens or two to share at work. You can also pick up your beverages or get gas as you wait for your tacos. Tacos here come with plain tortilla chips too. Just asked for some extra salsa. Carne Asada tacos are the best choice. Oh my gosh, what a true blessing this place is!!! Although I was *really* hungry after a busy morning, I only had a few minutes to spare before my flight and did not want to eat in an airport, so was fully prepared to go hungry a few more hours if needed, not wanting to fill my tummy with unhealthy food. Still, hoping for a miracle, I searched for a place as I refueled the rental car, and was surprised to find that Siri and Yelp both recommended a place inside the actual gas station I was at. Wow. What a miracle this place is! So, this *will* be a regular stop for me before I catch future flights out of LA, and likely just after I land, as well. This place is a hidden gem! I only tried this place after my car marked for water. So I stopped at the Arco gas station and filled my car. I was hungry too and so I went for some chips and a drink. But when I saw there was a taco place right next to the cashier, I put down my chips and drink, and ordered a carne asada burrito. This place is located inside the Arco mini store. The place is small but big in flavor! It was the best burrito I had tried in a very very very long time. The burrito consists of rice, beans, avocado(extra .50), cilantro, onion, cheese and meat all wrap around a decadent flour tortilla. The flavor I must say was banging. I ask for hot salsa on the side but I really should have asked for it in the burrito. That salsa was heaven. The meat I should say was q-u-a-l-i-t-y. No big chunks of fat just pure 100% beef. However, people are constantly coming and going, so you should be able to find a parking spot with no problems. This place is definitely not in the best part of town since the cashiers are surrounded by 360 degree of bullet proof glass. Yeah, 360 degrees! Taco Express is located towards the rear of the place and is strictly a pick up and go type of place. There are no tables or chairs to sit down and enjoy. I ordered the Chicken and Steak taco (that's the only taco meats offered), and it was pretty good for a gas station! Of course, you can't really compare this places to other taco joints but it's tasty. The steak had a nice texture and wasn't hard or chewy. The chicken was also cooked right. And it was priced decently at $1.50 a pop. The hot salsa sauce that they provide is not really salsa, but more of a hot sauce. While it does provide some heat, I would prefer a bit more salsa flavor. I used to teach across the street from Taco Express, and this place was the reason I came back to teach everyday. Lunch hour was what I looked forward to. Sure, I thought "My life is at an all time low because I am eating from a gas station", but Taco Express is actually good and cheap. I always ate the chicken quesadilla with a side of guac and sour cream, and a big water bottle. The total was always 6.50, and everyone at the store was very nice. I was also able to order my food, pick it up, and pay for it within 5 minutes. They also have vegan friendly options. I've been on a taco craze lately. I was excited to see a non-cash only (trying to break the habit of withdrawing cash) mexican place pop up on yelp somewhat near my work. It's inside of a gas station and takes cards but it will cost you 35 cents to use it since it's an Arco. Ordered 2 carne asada taco's fully loaded and a carne asada burrito. The carne asada tacos were 2-bites each, maybe a third and topped with red onions, cilantro, and hot red sauce. The carne asada was overflowing and the tortilla was slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (double wrapped). It was excellent. The reason this place gets 4 is because the Burrito was VERY underwhelming. The amalgamation of all the ingredients provided such little flavor that I immediately regretted buying it. Carne Asada was visible while she was making the burrito but I couldn't taste a single piece of meat behind the beans and the rice. Pros - including the fee and my 3 items, my total was like $9.50. Not bad considering I ordered a lot and I got charged for using my card. You could get away with 4 or 5 delicious carne asada tacos. In short, skip the burrito. Go for the tacos. Irony #1: the best Mexican place in the area is inside an Arco that houses a counter protected by bullet-proof windows. Ghetto to the max. Irony #2: burritos are wrapped in a foil and feel like they weight 5 bounds, just like Chipotle ones. But the price? About 20% cheaper. In the back of your average gas station/mini mart is a gem of a taco stand that is Taco Express. Menu is quite simple, they serve breakfast until around 10:30 I believe, but where they really shine is the Lunch menu. I usually get the Asada Torta & Asada Tacos. The salsa choices are mild or hot, the hot being a bit spicy for me, where the mild is a nice pico de gallo with a mild kick. The taco is basic with onions, cilantro and your choice of meat. I've had the chicken and while it was just ok, I really love the asada here. Very flavorful IMO. The torta is your typical mexican sandwich with beans spread on the bread and your taco fillings within. I really like the soft bread here and it makes for a filling treat. They also include chips which are just generic white corn chips from Costco, but ask for some salsa on the side as they seem to go well with them. Standing room only, so plan to take your food to go. Plenty of drink choices from the mini mart and they also take credit cards via the mini mart as well. read more

I know getting tacos and burritos from your neighborhood gas station sounds like getting Chinese food at your local dry cleaner's. The ladies just share space inside the mini mart at the Arco station on the corner of Arbor Vitae and Aviation. You order at their counter and they give you a ticket for which you pay at the mini mart cashier (which is hilariously encased in bulletproof plexiglass 360 degrees) then pick up your order at the counter when they call your number. Burritos are big, tacos are savory. Their torta isn't bad, though not the best I've had. For chips on the side, they used to give these awesome square Mission tortilla chips; now they've started using cheapo round, yellow corn chips that you see in movie theater boxed nachos. Blech. Really close to the airport, so if you work there, this can be a regular lunch take-out spot. Like everyone has said, there's a huge bulletproof glass room in the middle of the Arco mini mart. You order first then pay the gas station guys for your food. Not much selection; just carne asada and chicken. There's also a stringy beef as the girl described to me, "but it doesn't have much taste like the carne asada," she said. Ok, carne asada it is! Had it with the hot salsa which was a great mix of hot and tangy. Beans were the refried type, and with the cheese the burrito had a great consistency. $5 for a decent size burrito. Went inside to see that there was a long line at the counter which kind of reassured me that this place must be good. I've been here maybe 10 times since Lol.
