i got 2 chicken taco plates. they came with 2 tacos and a side of beans n rice. super good! came out to $31. the people working there are young most are friendly. it's always fairly quick service. not really authentic but still pretty good. the drive thru is actually just a taco truck and the space to pull in and out is pretty tight, so likely difficult if you have a big car. read more

SERIOUSLY CHEAP EATS on TACO TUESDAY! They have shredded chicken tacos, shredded beef, tacos, ground beef tacos, that come with lettuce and a little bit of cheese and a very crunchy shell for only $1.50 a taco on Tuesdays! I drive by this place several times a week and the other day my friend told me that I had to go there for crispy taco Tuesday because the tacos were only $1.50. I was already aware of the fact that it was basically a taco truck in the parking lot of what used to be a Taco Bell back in the '70's. What I discovered is, they actually have a tribe up ordering system in place in the parking lot next to the taco truck. I just to park my car and place my order at the taco truck and hang out in the parking lot then I was delivered a bag with my tacos in it and two types of salsa. I decided to go inside the restaurant that used to be Taco Bell, which is now just a place to eat out of the elements. They also have a bathroom and colorful tables to sit at. It was a 90° day so I went in to get out of the heat and get a place to sit unfortunately it smelled a little bit like cleaning solution, but I guess that meant it was clean in there I had thought there was a salsa bar or a soda machine in there, but no luck. I ordered the chicken taco and the shredded beef taco. The shredded beef taco really impressed me with the amount of tasty beef. There's a small amount of cheese and lettuce. They are very crispy not oily and the hot sauces were flavorful. The amazing part is that the bill only came up to $3.26 and I was full after eating two of those tacos. So on value I give it five stars however otherwise I wouldn't want to eat here because there are so many other options around for a few more dollars. read more

When we pull up to the parking lot everyone was so confused. The parking lot is for the taco truck. You order at the taco truck then they bring the food to you. . The building inside is just a bathroom and some tabels for you to sit in. The inside isn't anything fancy. It wasn't cool enough for a hot day, but it was fun because there was a bunch of us there. . We all took advantage of the 1.50 tacos and we had the beef and chicken tacos crispy of course. We all loved the tacos. The shells were crispy and wasn't cooked in old oil. They gave us plenty of salsa too. Simple comfort crispy tacos. . Overall we loved the vibe and taco tues was a success. This location is different from the rest. My friend invited me to meet him up for dinner at Taco Express for Taco Tuesday for $1.50 crunchy tacos. I arrive to the restaurant and see they have a taco truck outside of their restaurant which is odd to me. The parking lot is difficult because they use the parking lot as a makeshift drive though so it's difficult to get out without the help of staff. I ordered 4 ground beef crunchy nachos and a horchata to eat there and a super nachos to go. Tacos were just okay, but I definitely wouldn't pay more than a $1.50 it's definitely not worth paying regular price for and there are so many better Mexican food spots. My carne asada super nachos were mostly beans barely and cheese and meat. They were stingy with the toppings as well for $15 that's diabolical. The dining area inside is spacious it does get kind of warm inside and they also have outdoor seating. The lady that took my order could have been friendly, but whatever. I won't be back. The prices vary depending on your meat choice; for example, ground beef is $1 on Taco Tuesday, but if you select another type of meat, the price increases. Since it was my first time there, I didn't have a chance to read any reviews, which might have helped I found the layout a bit confusing because the taco truck serves as the kitchen, and I initially thought it was separate from the dining area. The truck is called Taco Express Kitchen, but the building is meant for dining in. They do have a sign for takeout, but it can still be misleading. I ordered a crispy taco with asada and an al pastor street taco. The flavor of the meat was okay, but I'm not sure about the burrito yet; I might give it another try. Don't order anything custom! They mess up my food every time! Today I ordered something very simple. Rice, bean, chicken, and cheese burrito. They gave me a French fry burrito with Pico de Gallo. Service Review. Today, 9/19 at 100pm I go to the truck location to pick up my DoorDash order. I get there and yes, I'm early but they did get my order and confirmed it after I spoke to the lady taking orders. I'm waiting patiently and while waiting, order are taken after me, first someone who ordered from their car then two guys ordering as well after the car. I wait and wait (going on 10 mins), and the car order got their food, then minutes after that , the two men get their order. I go up to the lady and she said yes it's coming up, then proceeds to take another order from two people who walk up, and then tells me for the 3rd time it's coming. Then after 2 minutes she finally hands me my food. Yes, I was upset so I grabbed my food and walked away. She then yelled out "YOU'RE WELCOME" and I was appalled by that. I said, "you guys need to get your shi# together" . THEN she yells out "you were here early". Wow... she admitted that I got there early and she's the one giving ME attitude?! Store says it opens at 9am, put in an order for pickup at 9:33. My husband arrives to pickup the order and they tell him that people got to work late so they just opened. Told him to wait until around 10am, lame but ok. When my husband came back it still wasn't done. Told him they were still working on the order...we ordered two breakfast burritos???? Even if they were backed up, an hour wait for two burritos is crazy. I'm very understanding but this was nuts. Also, it was such a hassle to get a cancellation and refund from DoorDash for our order since it was already labeled as "in progress." It obviously wasn't in progress. The service today was disappointing. We asked about the Elote burrito (our usual order ) If it was still available because It wasn't on the menu anymore and They said yes , so we ordered it. Minutes later, the worker came back saying they actually didn't have it anymore . Her service wasn't professional she did give us a refund but she never offered no similar-priced items ( to avoid the refund ) and never apologized for her mistakes. The wasn't even the worse part . I told her I wanted to try the wet burrito . we paid for it , took it home and when we took a bite out, it tasted like metallic, stale fridge leftover food . The whole drive-thru-in-the-parking-lot-and-order-from-the-food-truck-parked-next-to-the-what-I-thought-was-the-restaurant-concept threw me off just a little bit. I found a parking space next to the food truck and headed towards the "restaurant" wondering if they were open. I saw someone go in so I followed suit and to my surprise it was just a dining room with colorful wooden picnic tables and a restroom. You can see where the former order counter and kitchen were blocked off by a psuedo wall. So back outside to order our $1.50 Taco Tuesday crispy tacos. A lady was taking orders from the cars in line. I ended up ordering from the food truck window. There was a big group of us sitting in the dining area. A staff member was bringing out everyone's orders in a to-go bag. That was very nice and accommodating that we didn't have to wait outside and listen for our name/number. Each order took anywhere form 5-15 minutes, so not very "exxpress," at least on a busy Taco Tuesday. For the price, I can't complain. The shells were crispy, hot enough, and most importantly, did not taste like stale oil. There was a fair amount of meat inside also. I tried all 3 kinds (chicken, ground beef, and shredded beef) and all 3 were alright, covered with shredded lettuce and grated parmesan cheese. I used both the red and green salsas that were about medium spicy. Ask for extra. I don't think I'd go back unless it was solely for the Taco Tuesday specials, and I wanted some cheap eats, and I had some time to spare, and if I was driving by on my way somewhere. read more

TLDR: Food flavor: Better than the best known local Mexican fast-food chain Prices and quality: Slightly higher than the competition Customer service/operations: Needs work After a long day of hiking in the Bay Area, I was famished. I had been planning to eat in Berkeley, but thought, South Sac has great food, why not just try another new place closer to home? By the time I was driving by Taco Exxpress, I couldn't wait anymore. I was intrigued by the taco truck in the driveway of the taqueria with "drive through now open" signs, so I pulled in. Had I realized that this was the same chain as the taqueria that replaced the Taco Bell on Iron Point in Folsom, I might have made a different decision, but I didn't figure that out until after I had paid. Basically, the taco truck was attempting to function as a drive-through restaurant, while simultaneously operating as a walk-up taco truck. It's unclear whether the brick and mortar restaurant was even open, or was just being used as seating for the taco truck, but it seemed like everyone was ordering from the truck. As I was waiting for my food, two people picked up phoned-in to-go orders from the truck window, while another walked up to order, and then stood around to wait. A young stoner came out of the taco truck to take my order. I had a lot of questions, which he answered curtly. He may have just been having a bad day, or maybe he was just really stoned, but he seemed annoyed by my questions. I finally decided to order the 3 rolled tacos with beef, and asked for a cup of water. He told me my total, but I didn't notice until later that he had charged me $3 for a bottled water. Pet peeve: As anyone who knows me or who has been reading my reviews for a long time would know, I've worked in the restaurant industry for most of my life. Even in fine dining, I would clarify whether or not someone meant to order bottled water before charging them. Plus, when you ask for a cup of water in a fast food drive through, it's usually free, right? Or maybe like, a quarter. I was not expecting to purchase a bottled water. I had actually ordered water because I didn't feel like paying for a drink, but if I had known I was paying for a drink, I would have gotten a different one-- probably a tamarind Jarritos. I had asked if the taquitos came with guacamole, and they did, and it was good. But, there wasn't very much of it, and, for some reason, what little they gave me was mostly placed underneath the taquitos. I guess the amount of guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, and cheese was fair enough, but most fast-food Mexican restaurants I've been to pile it on a lot higher. That being said, the flavor was better than the competition. The beef itself was noticeably flavorful. The lettuce, cheese, and sour cream were all very fresh. The cashier hadn't asked me if I wanted sauce, but he brought me two red, and two green. I prefer green, but I tried both, and loved them both. Again, the flavor was better than the competition. I was annoyed by what felt like less than stellar customer service, but still thought the tacos were pretty good. As far as the quantity of food I received versus the price I paid, they were definitely on the expensive side. This restaurant has a few operational kinks to work out, but the food is worth trying. read more

Don't bother calling in on Tuesdays. Food is delicious as always and hasn't dipped in quality. Service on the other hand... I've asked and paid for birria sauce on several occasions and I usually get told there's none or they don't include it with my order. The food is good but if I paid for something I'd like to have it with my food. My friend also paid for the carne asada fries and they forgot the asada. Not sure how you forget the most important part of carne asada fries I still recommend this place but you should double check your order before leaving. A drive thru food truck. YES. A rarity indeed. I came here as I was nearby working and needed a quick lunch. There regular items are kinda pricey but their daily specials are priced right. I had the 2 Enchiladas meal and they were large and tasty. It came with beans and rice and a lettuce salad. Excellent. I will stop by anytime at this Land Park location. I've tried Taco Exxpress twice now - once for dinner and once for a breakfast burrito. The first time I tried it, my dad and I stopped for some tacos for dinner. We placed our order at the food truck and went and sat at their picnic tables to wait. I ordered the crunchy beef tacos and they were tasty - nothing extraordinary or amazing that would make me run back for more. On my most recent visit, my husband and I came to order breakfast burritos. I got the chorizo breakfast burrito. The breakfast burritos are massive, but again, don't really have that "wow factor" that would make me go out of my way to come back anytime soon. Drive Thru at a Taco Truck? Yes!! One day while driving down Freeport Blvd, I noticed three cars in a drive thru at a taco truck and thought....what a crazy concept. This location was recently a Goodwill Store and prior to that, a KFC. I know because I used to work there back in 1985. Now comes Taco Exxpress. This oddly operated business is creating quite a buzz. Whether its the drive thru or the fact that there is a building with picnic tables and restrooms being served by a taco truck across the parking lot, this place draws attention that makes you want to check it out yourself. We arrived around 7:30pm with the lot and drive thru empty. We quickly realized this truck wasn't just serving tacos. They have pretty full menu with many Mexican favorites, both food and drinks. We ordered beef and chicken crunchy tacos, bacon and chorizo breakfast burritos and a California burrito, mainly to compare to Oscars as a standard. We must say that the tacos were quite tasty with lots of meat filling. The bacon in the breakfast taco was crispy with a nice texture. Unlike the chopped and "not cooked enough" back from the other place. This Bacon Burrito was a lot better than the competition. The California Burrito was another story. I'd go back to Oscars for theirs. The staff is attentive, fast and friendly. We were greeted as soon as we stepped out of my car. The entire place was really clean, especially the dining room area. Came by for some last minute dinner and they seem to be closing for the night. The lady didn't seem to want to help us, but she did. They have the usual Mexican food items so we got a super burrito with asada, which was a good size but lacking on the meat, and crispy and street tacos. The asada and pastor tacos were dry and needed the salsa. The crispy taco was the way to go as the crunch helps. The opening feels like a soft one. Strangely right now food is coming from a truck, but i decided to pop by and give it a shot. This sounds odd, but just drive into the lot. A lady takes your order as you sit in your car in between the restaurant and the taco truck. My food came out quickly and hot. My crispy beef taco looked like 100% lettuce but contained a fair amount of beef and cheese as well in a non greasy crispy shell. Not bad. The orange "hot" sauce had a muted habanero burn, but complemented the food nicely enough. The street tacos had nice piles of meat on small corn tortillas and loads of cilantro and onion. Al pastor was quite good. I like a little more crisp on carnitas, but that taco was otherwise fine as well. Their menu includes breakfast burritos, asada fries, combo meals, mexi bowls...the usual quick Mex stuff. I've seen other Taco Exxpress locations in the greater Sac area. This one probably evolves into a similar one, I think? Not sure why this one has no rolled tacos yet or why the truck in the parking lot makes the food but that's the current status. I haven't been here for a while. They used to sell tiny tacos (2 bite size) for just under $4 a year and 1/2 ago. So I found a couple other places nearby that give you better tacos at twice the size for $2.75 -- $3. But I would still show up for daily specials sometimes. I went for the wed. special tonight; asada fries(9.99)They used to be Tuesday special for $8.99. Anyway, the price went up $1 and the amount of food went down maybe 20%. Sign of the times. Bummer! Taco Express on Freeport Boulevard is one of Sacramento's hidden Gem. The food and the service are both excellent. You can drive up to the truck and beautiful Corrina will come out to take your order, you pull into a parking spot and she will bring your order out to you when it's ready or you can stay & dine in at the location. There's outdoor seating on the patio or lots of indoor seating inside the building where there is a television and a restroom. You place your order at the Truck and Corrina will bring it to you wherever you choose to sit. She's a sweetheart. Their food here is cooked to perfection, they are very generous with their portions and their tacos is very filling. This is my new go to spot for tacos and all Mexican food. Their building is very clean and their service is exceptional, very kind and welcoming, never a long wait. Excellent food and even better service. Went there with my daughter on a Sunday for breakfast/lunch and got the chorizo burrito; super delicious! My daughter got the street tacos and loved them, too. I like the fact that this establishment has the taco truck setup but still offers a dining room for their patrons to sit down and eat (including a bathroom). We also got tacos on a Tuesday (only $1!!) and it was a hit with the family. Would definitely recommend Taco Express to anyone looking for a quality Mexican food experience!! read more

I also like their specials on Friday, which is the bean and cheese burrito. Not really a big fan of beans but they make it really good with a lot of flavor so I really enjoy it. There was just 1 car ahead of me, yet after placing my order, my food took 20 minutes to come out... all whilst my baby fussed in the car, agitated by the unexpectedly long wait. Granted, they did apologize for the wait and this is very unlike Taco Exxpress to be slow (usually I'm very pleased with how speedy they are), but today they were Taco Slowwww. I always get the Exxpress burrito, and it is usually delicious. But today it was way over salted, and now $2 more expensive than their prior Thursday special price. I ordered the #1 combo and specified no cheese for my mom who doesn't like cheese. It was recorded that way on the receipt, but the order itself included cheese while missing the rice.
