Fish taco & shrimp a la diabla platter
    Gregory C.

Admittedly, we were planning to go to another restaurant but they sold out of fish and as a pescatarian couldn't eat too many other things on their menu. As we were leaving, we found this place and decided to give it a try. Overall, the food was tasty and the portions were decent sized. I ordered the shrimp a la diabla platter, a fish taco, and shrimp and octopus tostada. My only qualms and what led to my four star versus five star review is that I wish there was more diabla sauce on the platter and some salt for the tostada. My partner ordered the surf and turf burrito, which was new, he enjoyed the steak and shrimp combo and said he was full after eating it.

Octopus ceviche tostada is one of my top favorites in Mexican cuisine so I had to check this place out after knowing that this place has it. Pretty extensive seafood tostada menu here actually, and as much as I wanted to order tostadas with just octopus I decided to go with ones with mixed seafood (that still had some octopus!). I ordered a taco also since reviewers seem to rave about the tacos here (got a pastor one since pastor is my go-to taco protein). Tostadas mixtas: I opened the styrofoam box of it and was amazed on how huge the portion size was lol so much seafood! Granted, like more than half of it was imitation crab, but I didn't mind the imitation crab at all because strangely it wasn't overly salty and was light-tasting (didn't taste much of the funky preservatives). The shrimp and octopus though.....wowowow so tender! Bravo for the octopus being actually soft as octopus can quickly go from 0 to 100 in chewiness depending on how it's prepared. All of this seafood with sturdy-crunchy tostada tortillas, Tapatio, and lime.....so so good!! Tostadas mazatlan: the portion size for this one is what I expected it to be lol. The seafood mix doesn't include imitation crab and is seasoned with hot spices. These tostadas are good, but I actually prefer the seafood mix in the tostadas mixtas because the octopus in the tostadas mazatlan is a tad overly chewy (not rubber-band level but getting there). Still enjoyable though. I can recommend the tostadas mazatlan if you're not a fan of imitation crab and want a strong spicy kick to your tostadas (a.k.a. if only the Tapatio sauce packet isn't quite enough spice for you). Pastor taco: pretty decent. Meat is tender but a little over-charred. Also couldn't really taste any pineapple. Still flavorful from the chili pepper marinade though. Overall great little find! Definitely give this place a try especially if you've never had octopus/seafood tostadas!

Super filling and quite tasty carne asada tacos! I'm glad I only ordered two...the meat was overflowing on these delicious tacos!

Really good tacos! The lengua is perfect, not chewy or too soft and seasoned well. Fish tacos have a sweetness to them that I wasn't used to, but still very delicious. I got red salsa on the side that wasn't too spicy, the tamarind flavor helped mellow it out. Service was very nice and the food came out quickly. I want to try different things on the menu soon! It's a cool little place on the corner of a busy street and neighborhood.

The food is incredible! I got fish and lengua tacos and they were both 10/10. The fish has a subtle sweetness that did catch me off guard at first, but once I got used to it, the flavors came through and it was perfectly seasoned. Both the lengua and the fish were cooked flawlessly! I was truly impressed. The flavor, texture and cook of the tortillas was perfection as well. They also load up your plate with pickled jalapeños, radish, and carrot. The employees are so nice! Great service! There is a nice little seating area as well. I will absolutely be back.

I was at El Gallo Giro only once. And had an outstanding Camarones a la Cora. I look forward to coming and trying something else the next time!

    Tacos !!!!

This place was pretty good. The price for the tacos was amazing: $1.25 and $1.50 for lengua. I'm impressed because the tacos had a sufficient amount of meat. The burrito was decent sized as well, not too big, but not too small, average sized for $6.50 (super). The shrimp tostadas were pretty good. The guest I came with thoroughly enjoyed them. The shell to the tostada was crispy, and didn't break. The shrimp was fresh and flavorful. Pair these with a cold Coke, and life is complete. I did order the horchata, but I would say, personally, I've had better. So, With saying all of this, I would definitely come back (especially if the tacos remain at $1.25 a pop). I would say for a small hole in the wall spot, this place is a good taco spot to check out if you're driving up the street, craving authentic Mexican food, with friendly staff.

I wanted to give this restaurant multiple chances before making a judgment because I know they were still finding their footing when they first opened. My first visit was disappointing. The service wasn't great, and neither was the food. Since they had just opened, I decided to give them another shot. My second and third visits were much better, with attentive service and quality food. Unfortunately, things became inconsistent after that. On later visits, service started slipping, and some dishes were overly salty. This last visit was by far the worst. My family was visiting from Southern California, and they chose this restaurant. From the start, our server was largely absent and probably checked on our table only once. My sister and I ordered drinks, and after waiting an unusually long time, we had to follow up ourselves, only to realize the bartender hadn't even started making them. My brother ordered the lobster and steak, and the lobster arrived practically raw. I ordered the shrimp scampi, and the shrimp tasted freezer-burned and anything but fresh. It was incredibly disappointing. A manager did ask if they could make it right and give us dessert or another entree which I declined. They did take care of our drinks and entrees which was nice, but I would've rather had a great experience especially since my family were visiting and we were celebrating my nephews graduations and my daughter's birthday. At this point, I don't see myself returning. The inconsistency in both the food and service is just too much for me. It's especially disappointing because my husband and I used to visit the downtown location all the time, and it was always so good. I was really hoping this location would live up to that same standard.

Shout out for West Sacramento…read more.. Did you know that right in West Sacramento there is a seafood stand selling fresh sustainable caught hook n line fish plucked from the Bodega Bay? Well know you do... Ferrari Fisheries has a stand that sells black cod, ling cod, red snapper which all are year round catches; and seasonal Dungeness crab and salmon. When they have a fresh caught batch; they text their customers what is available catch, and time & date. To get their text notifications; you can sign up on their website. I was fortunate enough to get to their stand early enough on a notification day to buy a couple of Dungeness crabs. The crabs were live, priced at $11/pound. Awesome price! When you get to the stand, there are two lines. The first line you want to get into is the one nearest the big containers where the fish on ice or crabs are kept. If you want your fish filleted, let them know. It is a complimentary service. Then you head into the other line to pay. They take cash and card, I'm not sure about other payment types. Keep in mind, the inventory sells quickly especially the seasonal items. Folks queue up earlier than the opening time stated in the texts. The start time was 10am; I got there at 10:20 am. They sold out as I was leaving the stand. Anthony (owner and fishing captain), his wife, and team are terrific. They all were helpful and had the best attitudes. Welcoming. I'm sure they answer the same questions over and over. But when talking with each customer, they were engaged and provided individual attention. Top notch customer service!

The patio area is a large space that can accommodate special events and many individual parties for everyday dining. The lunch menu had quite a variety to choose from. Of course, we started with their great sour dough bread and butter! Our server was very nice, and let my granddaughter choose a dessert off the dessert menu for her birthday treat. She chose the creme brûlée. What a treat. There's plenty of parking too, but some prefer the valet parking that's always available. I love dining at Scott's on the River
