Old Soul Coffee on L Street has a pretty good location. For quite some time I've enjoyed it-kind of tucked away hidden on a little alley near 17th and L Street. Generally not the type of place you find accidentally. I don't feel like that changes at all once you walk in the door. It''s not a loud place, almost every time I've been here, it seems to be parties of 3 or less, but usually less than that, either studying or getting work done on a laptop while drinking a coffee relishing in the quaint quiet steadiness of the shop. The spot kinda looks like it's always still under construction but after many visits I realize now that's just the decor. Parking is available here in a nearby lot though ample street parking seems to be the spot I choose on most visits. The employees are not annoyingly enthusiastic yet they are friendly, but more in an energy that matches the room kinda friendly. There are plenty of tables for customers at this shop along with my favorite pair of recliner-type chairs near the front of the store. This particular visit we decided we just wanted coffee and we went with an Iced Vanilla Latte ($7.50) and a Sea Salt and Honey Shaken Espresso ($6.75). The drinks came out very quickly-less than a five minute wait. I've always adored the Sea Salt Honey Espresso drink, as it's been my go-to at Old Soul ever since I discovered it there.This visit was no different as it was still so yummy and the perfect afternoon pick-me-up as I set out for a busy rest of the day. The wifey loved her vanilla iced latte, Old Soul has always used quality coffee beans and that looks like that hasn't changed as their coffee is as tasty as ever. Old Soul does offer pastries but we never really had a chance to try them on this visit as we had multiple food plans later that day but I can say from experience-I've always enjoyed their pastries when I was lucky enough to order one. What's the point of offering online ordering if employees refuse to make the order until the customer personally reminds them? I waited over 30 minutes for two drinks that took roughly three minutes to prepare. The employee only started making them after I asked whether my order was ready. Her explanation was that they don't make online orders until customers show up because some people never come, or because ice might melt. That's not how mobile ordering works. The entire reason people order ahead is so the drinks are ready when they arrive. Instead, my order was apparently ignored while I stood there waiting with no communication whatsoever. If customers are expected to announce themselves before their order will even be started, that should be clearly stated when ordering. Otherwise, this is just wasting people's time and defeating the purpose of the service entirely. Extremely frustrating experience. read more

A quaint, independent coffee place located in an alley. The design inside looks very worldly, but also factory vibes. Some easy going international music playing....just overall relaxed vibe. We came here as it was near noon, we hadn't eaten yet on a Sunday, and our brunch spot had an hour wait. We thought get something to hold us over, and kill some time. Two birds, one stone. The young woman working the counter was very friendly. My wife got a chai latte, cold, and I ordered the hot chocolate and a danish. I won't "rage" about a basic hot chocolate, but..... I had gone to Old Soul at the Alley last week for a mixer and noticed that they also made pizza. I scheduled a follow up meeting at their site for that reason. I really wanted to try their Pizza Margarita. Holy smokes! It was, hands down, one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time. The crust was perfect, the toppings were portioned perfectly, and they add a dash of salt to the finished pizza. It was fantastic! Allie did a great job. Me and my boyfriend tried this place one morning and honestly not worth it we spent like 50 on two biscuits and gravy meals, and two orange juices and a dry pastry There was no seasoning whatsoever there was still eggshells in my sunny side of egg. So. . .I met a friend here to catch up and we had a decent experience. She ordered a mocha latte and I ordered a lavender latte. We also ordered the greens salad. We got our drinks fairly quickly, but it took 25 minutes for us to get our salad with no meat. That was a little disappointing given that it was just a salad and also, someone else ordered after us but received their food before we did. We ran out of time and ended up having to take our salads to go. My friend really liked her mocha latte, but my lavender latte did not really have the lavender flavor in it and the salads were just OK. I'm not sure if they were shortstaffed and things were rushed, but I can't say that I was impressed. It's a super cute spot, but the energy was different. The customer service was just OK. Not super friendly, but not rude either. It gave the energy of "tired". Our experience was pretty mediocre, but I do plan on checking it out again. First time in my life that I've had a breakfast sandwich served on a biscuit. Feel like I've been missing out. I had their carnitas breakfast sandwich - biscuit was flaky and very tasty, carnitas very flavorful and the aioli not over powering. The last time I did a review was in 2015. A lot has changed since then. My husband used to stop in regularly and get pastries for his office. He'd literally buy them out. We really enjoyed their pastries for years. Since then we've moved and it's not on our way to work and home any more. They are located in a back alley and if you don't know about them you may not see them. Lots of people have discovered them as there is always people milling around inside. It used to be mainly a coffee shop. Now they sell lots of lunch like foods such as salads, sandwiches, and pizza. Pizza is defiantly a new addition. They have a separate sign for there pizza selections. They also sell beer now. I'm not sure if that includes wine too. I'll look next time for you. They also serve root beer floats and coffee over ice cream. We always walk so parking isn't an issue for us. There is a lot next to them so I'm thinking you can park there for a fee. I'm OBSESSED with their kieche and as annoying as I'm sure it is I always have to ask if mushrooms are in it because of allergies. Not one staff member ever makes me feel bad about asking. Want to give a couple shout outs to the stellar team if I don't mention your name your still so great! Reese, probably one of (the coolest humans you'll ever meet) remembered me from my second entrance in the building and always makes the best coffee. They go above and beyond in customer service asking about my acting and hobbies. Always pleasant and working hard. Tiff is an absolute gem and has gone above and beyond by remaking my order when it was accidentally taken by the wrong customer immediately. She is kind and welcoming at every visit. Overall I don't have a lot of places I feel comfortable being. Old Soul is one of them and has a special place in my heart. This coffee shop has such industrial red brick charm. I wouldn't have expected anything so cool in the back of the alley parking lot, which charges parking btw. There was a lot of open space and tables on a Saturday morning. We thoroughly enjoyed the drinks we chose and our favorite thing was actually the orange muffin with a glaze on top. I learned all the pastries are made in house and is the main location servicing all which is wonderful. I would note customer service could be improved as it felt unfriendly and dismissive. Because of that I would never come to this location again. I'm surprised I wasn't able to add lavender syrup to my latte since it's part of the seasonal drinks. Such an easy profit margin charging a $1 for 3 pumps of syrup. I decided on vanilla for my drink. Each time, we've only ordered one item, whether it be a burrito or a sandwich, but both times it takes about 20-25 minutes to receive the order which, by that time, our break is almost over. Swung by Old Soul hoping to find a few options of freshly roasted whole bean greatness and struck gold! They had a ton of whole bean roasts available, including a decaf and a half-caff!
