I'm extremely happy we have a Mexican restaurant in Vail (especially one with such a variety of seafood). Here's the thing, if you walk out of this establishment 'hungry' there's something really wrong because the portions are quite substantial. It's always exciting to get a new restaurant here in Vail. I've heard a lot of hype about Taco Giro. It seems a little odd to have a Mexican restaurant open up directly across from Fitos, especially with such high prices, but it looks like seafood is their specialty, so hopefully there's enough of a niche that both places can survive. The big sign out front says "take-out and delivery only" but the place is packed on a Friday at noon. Literally packed. There is no social distancing, and this place is small. They also don't currently offer online ordering, so I'm not sure if delivery is even a thing. Hopefully it will be, because that would be convenient. I entered, surrounded by people, and was given a full menu. I had to ask for a lunch special menu. They have very limited choices for lunch for 8.99. I decided to order from the main menu. Chile relleno + cheese enchilada + rice/beans for 11.99. I was told it would be a 20 min wait, so I sat outside. If you have Covid concerns, you definitely want to sit outside. This place is a Covid nightmare. There is no signage requiring masks, and one small bottle of sanitizer at the front, presumably for employee use. While i was there no one used it. Bare hands wrapped silverware. They have a small bar (six seats) and 10 tables, most seating four. Definitely not a place for groups. Besides Covid issues, the biggest problem I see is organization. They seem to have no system. After 15 min outside, many people cleared out, so I went in and sat at the bar. 2 closed containers of food were sitting at the food window, and no one looked at it. I realized that I hadn't paid, and they hadn't taken my name. I asked the bartender if I could pay. There was confusion and it took asking several servers before they find the one who took my order. She came over and I paid. She said it would be "ready soon", then went over to the window. Lo and behold! The remaining food that had been sitting for at least five minutes getting cold was mine! They do include chips and salsa with take out, so that's nice. The salsa is pretty good, freshly made. The beans had a canned taste, but good consistency. There was a weird sour flavor to them. The rice was fluffy, pretty average. The cheese enchilada wasn't too greasy, and was generous with the cheese filling. The sauce was mediocre. It tasted very Americanized. The relleno was really good. The batter was fluffy, lots of cheese filling. Really no complaints. Overall, it was definitely less greasy than most Mexican places, so that was nice. The food is about average. But the service needs some desperate help. read more

We've been passing Taco Giro for a while now and we finally decided to stop. It was very busy ! The place is small and when we went for dinner - there was only 1 table open inside. There is an outside area - we'll try that later in the year when it's warmer ! They have a large menu with many different Sonoran Mexican food items. We had to wait a few minutes to get our drinks ordered - looks like they only have 1 server out front. I ordered my usual taco plate and my wife ordered her Chile Rellano. The food was good, but not hot - luke warm at best. I would give them another chance as the food was good but Taco Giro in Vail needs some improvement. read more

Our first time here. Not impressed. Maybe it was an off night... the server did make a few references to being short staffed. When we arrived, we were sat pretty quickly. server was pleasant and friendly. ..... and then we waited five minutes for our drinks. We ordered an appetizer and our meals. The kids meal came out first which is ok. Then my husbands meal a few minutes later. My other daughter's meal arrived about 15 minutes after that, and my meal was another 15 minutes or so.... Everyone was basically done by the time I got my food. I order the steak and shrimp off the dinner specials menu. Shrimp smelled fishy so I didn't eat it. We only had one silverware roll and it only had a fork so I had no way to cut my steak. Cheese crisp (appetizer) arrived seven minutes after my meal. Drinks were not refilled until its delivery and were all flat sodas. All of this disorganization would've been ok had the food been above average... but sadly, it wasn't. Nothing we had would bring us back. Everything tasted as if it was frozen and reheated. Fairly bland across the board. A disappointing experience for what we'd hoped would be a new local favorite. read more

I just had breakfast @ this resturant and it was amazing. The huevos ranchers was delicious and cheap (6 bucks) for a huge portion. Look people, the place was empty except for me this morning so if you want a resturant in this area with excellent food and great prices then get your bottom here and support a great place to eat. read more

Eaten at this place twice, one year apart. Both times we were seated near the back where our noses were assaulted with the smell of moldy mop water and our ears were assaulted by loud..... "enriching"... music. This second time we counted EIGHT cockroaches as an added bonus. The fact that the health department allows this place to stay open is amazing. For those of you that patronize this place and keep it open, enjoy the festering mop water and roaches. I'm never going back. read more

Didn't get a chance to try the food but it looked good in the pictures on the lengthy menu. We were seated and never waited on. No water brought out, nothing. The twi hispanic girls just stood at the counter and stared our way but no one attempted to help us. One friendly woman inside giving out beer samples but that was it. 15.minutes of overloud mexican music and the waitresses just stood there. A few other people already had food and were eating so its not like they were busy helping others. I guess they didnt want to serve us so we left. They both looked our way and half smiled and said nothing as we slowly walked out the door. Their loss. Pricy looking grub anyhow so we went to a place around the corner. We tried! read more

So, we're big fans of Taco Giro. We go to the one on 22nd all the time and have even been to the one on the south side a couple of times. So needless to say we were thrilled when they were opening one in Vail. We also know that anytime they open things in vail it's super crowded so we waited a bit and decided to go sort of late on a Friday night around 8pm. I walk in and there seemed to be mass confusion. One lady was complaining about something having to do with her to go order. I stood there looking and waiting to be greeted along with another person for about 10 minutes. The girls working there seemed to be trying to figure something out while me and the other lady were invisible. They finally figured out what was wrong and we were seated and they took the other customers to go order. From there things got better. Same great food as the other locations, hence the 3 stars. But the service continued to struggle. We had to wave out server down each time we needed something. She never would have came back to our table had we not called her over several times. If you want good food, this is the place to go, but don't expect excellent service until hopefully they work out their logistical issues. read more

Great place to go in Vail! Ate here for the first time yesterday. Service was great! And the food was good! I ordered the three enchilada plate with beans and rice. The enchilada sauce had a good flavor but was a little on the runny side. Needs to be thicker. My husband ordered the three chicken tacos and they were available soft or hard. Came here for lunch with the work crew. The boss was paying so I was happy to give it a try haha. First off I must say the prices here are way way to high. I mean a basic combo is $12+, and some of them are over $25 (yes its a decent amount if food but still over priced). If you get past that, then the food was pretty good. Everyone liked the food. Everything from stuff peppers, to basic taco and tamales, to shrimp enchiladas. For 4 people it came out to $79 plus tip. The service was good until we got our food, then it fell off. Drinks are good, great for apps and alcohol. I have issues with the shrimp. Doesn't look like it's been sliced and properly cleaned. It's still got the feces line in it. They don't have hot salsa either. The salsa I'm probably being a little extra about. But shrimp not being thoroughly cleaned was definitely an issue for me. Otherwise the tacos are good. My pick up order was cold and 2 of the 3 meals were wrong. When I called the girl basically told me she knew the order was messed up and to come back in. My husband picked up another cold dinner that was still not correct. The prices are horrible for food that's worse then Taco Bell. I spent $56.00 and none of the 3 meals were eatable. read more

Had read the recent (mostly negative reviews) before deciding to give it a try. We intentionally went during a busy time of day so we could gauge if the service was as bad as people said it was. It was lunchtime, mid-week about three weeks ago. Portions were generous, great value for the price. Waitstaff attentive, polite and helpful. Hubby and I went to the New Taco Giro's in Vail, Az. on a Monday late afternoon. The manager or owner came up immediately and showed us the dinner specials that started at 5pm. He was very friendly. We liked that. We had gotten there about 445pm but he was willing to let us order early if we wanted dinner menu. He was out of several of the beers we chose. Not complaining because I know the restaurant is new so I will give them a break on this. The menu is huge, lots of seafood items and a good selection of combinations. They serve their chips with 3 salsas. The spicer and medium were both good. The 3rd one looked like enchilada sauce. I didn't care for it and it was made with flour or cornstarch which I thought was strange for salsa? It had no real flavor. We order chicken taco dinner and shredded beef taco dinner. The cook made a mistake and gave me a combo dinner with beef enchilada with sour cream along with the shredded beef taco. I like the beef taco with tasty shredded beef but the beans and rice I thought were extremely bland. I couldn't taste any real spice in either of them, just a tomato based broth on the rice. I didn't like the beef enchilada at all. It was made with hamburger, was bland and the enchilada sauce was pasty with no flavor. My husband had chicken taco dinner which he said the whole plate was luke warm. (mine was the same) He also liked the chicken taco but didn't care for rice or beans either. The waitress was good, the food was delivered quickly, but unless they improve the blandness of their food, we won't be back. Mexican food is my favorite. I love cumin and chile spices, garlic and onion which is used extensively in mexican food. I cook mexican food all the time at my home so I'm probably a picky reviewer for mexican food. We love Rancho Rustico on Houghton and have never had a bad dinner there. My husband likes Coronado's also on Houghton Road. So, Taco Giro, we love you are in Vail and we want to support you but you need to compete with the other 2 mexican restaurants if you want to remain open for long. I will try it again and see if anything changes but after the 2nd time, if still the same then we will return back to our favorites in the Rita Ranch/Vail area. read more

Cook told her it would be a lot longer and gave no estimate on time. Asked for a refund. Tried another time and the food was not good. Beans were gross, rice is bland, steak tacos yuck. Salsa bland. I'd love to review the food but it never showed up. After 40 minutes we got a glass of water only no refills. We asked for chips. They never showed up. Other tables arriving 20 minutes after us had chips. Finally we asked again and was told our food would be on the way in "maybe 15 minutes" the restaurant was woefully understaffed.
