I had a delightful lunch here with some friends. I chose the fish fillet lunch special with zucchini and salad for my sides. A delicious, low carb, healthy option for me. The fish was seasoned nicely, the zucchini wasn't overcooked and had a bit of cheese on top, the salad pretty standard. Plenty of food. Service was quick and friendly. As a self-professed Mexican food snob what I can say is this was average food. Went there mid afternoon. Not busy. Service was fine. Ambiance was typical east side Tucson vibe. Had a combo plate with a cheese, enchilada, beef taco, beans, rice and a beef tamale. Chips were meh. Salsa was 2 types presented (both red) one mild, one "hot". I definitely liked the hot sauce salsa but the mild one was awful. Worse than Pace brand. This place is pretty far away from my hacienda so I can't say I'd go out of my way to go back. Love how excellent of its texture. Service is too casual I'd say. No complaints but it was more of a mom and pop Mexican restaurant. Wanting an authentic Mexican food experience. It certainly was not your Americanized (read Taco Bell) or too fancy food experience. I ended up choosing a lunch special of 2 shredded beef tacos with rice and beans. It was was exactly what I was expecting. I ended up putting some the supplied hot sauce to spice it up. I also ordered a cheese crisp. It was much larger than expected. The tortilla was nice a crisp and plenty of cheese. The decor was ok. The service was quick and friendly. We decided to try LN because, 1, they were fairly close to us, 2, recommended by many people, 3, local family-owned small business and 4, they do Sonoran Mexican cooking. Having moved back to Arizona after 18+ years in Texas and having to adjust to Tex-Mex, we gravitate toward Sonoran-style food. Everything was delicious. Service was very quick, friendly and on point. It's a small restaurant but very clean and inviting. I noticed some people were annoyed by the sign at each table saying there is a surcharge for credit card use. Unfortunately, many restaurants are doing this now, especially the smaller businesses. If you don't want to pay the surcharge, bring cash. If you don't want to pay the prices on the menu, stay home. We had their cheese crisp, which was the best we've had so far in Tucson. I had the lunch shredded beef chimichanga (which was quite large), husband had the ground beef chimi enchilada style, with beans and rice. Everything was great. Chips were good and hot and mild salsa was served. Drinks were refilled promptly. Prices were extremely reasonable and portions were very generous. Thanks LN! In town for a day or so and the craving for some South of the Border Mexican food. This late afternoon the restaurant was still a buzz with the late lunch crowd. Typical decor you find in a family owed restaurant. Get seated and noticed right away that every booth/table had a taped sign informing you that there was an additional cost if you use your card. For me, add it to the menu post it at the register fine, but to see more prominent than the Mexican decor was just wrong. The food hit the spot, nothing to note as extra special but like I said hit the spot. Portions were fairly large and the beer was slightly cold. Chips and salsa rocked. One thing that stood out as a negative was the flour tortillas for the fajita was a giant 18" burrito folded and stuffed in the foil. Couldn't figure out why, is the burn or were they out of the smaller ones. The odd thing with this 18" she'll was there was so much flour caked on to the tortilla, it was coming off onto my fingers which changed the enjoyment of the tortilla but the mess created by the excess flour. If you want to taste authentic Sonoran Mexican food, this is the place to go. This so reminds me of growing up in Tucson. I would eat the cheese crisp if I could eat cheese still. It looked delicious. They don't know a cheese crisp is like a Mexican pizza, a big flour tortilla with melted cheese. I absolutely recommend the chimichanga asada seca. Sonoran food is not spicy. Today, 18 July 2025 - not so good. Dried out tamales and nasty re-fried beans. Nasty chilie rellenos. We've been going here since they opened on the east-side of Tucson but something has changed in the kitchen. Food quality not as good as it used to be. OK - I guess - but not up to previous levels of taste and quality. Something is off in the kitchen. Service is great but it does not make the food taste any better. The taco looked amazing but the meat was dry. The tamale didn't have good flavor... maybe fat/grease that was used was old. Even the cheese enchilada wasn't great. I think that came down to the red sauce not having a lot of flavor. I did like the salsa and the chips. And the atmosphere was good, too. The servers were nice and I felt welcome in this authentic restaurant. I love good Mexican food. I grew up in the area I know good Mexican food is. Recently visited Los Nopales Restaurant in East Tucson on Harrison Rd just north of Golf Links. It has plenty of parking around the building and plenty of seating inside including for groups. When we arrived around lunch - there was plenty of seating. The menu is very extensive with some of the great Sonoran dishes including tacos, enchiladas, rellenos, etc. We ordered the taco platter and a chile relleno. The salsa was very good that came with the chips before the meal. A special comment on the ground beef tacos - the ground beef taste like it is cooked with onions and green chiles - excellent taste and some of the best flavor of any around town. Service was quick and very friendly ! I'm definitely recommending Los Nopales and plan to take a dinner group there in the near future. read more

Their food has gone downhill. They keep raising their prices and lowering the quality. It sucks and the prices keep going higher.

I live almost literally around the corner. I love Mexican food. A few years ago I went there and I wasn't impressed. Last weekend I decided to try it again. They are going to be my "go to". Los Nopales was such a pleasant surprise/treat. First off, it's another awesome Mexican option in the Eastside. Even though La Herradura and Los Betos are pretty much across the street, it's not really like all of these Mexican restaurants are competing as they all offer something different. Los Nopales has a great selection of...salads! A few different kinds, and they don't skimp on the protein. I ordered and really liked the carne asada canasta salad. Also got the cheese crisp and it was yummy! They also have strong margaritas! But of course the main highlights are the entrees...the portions are huge! The chile relleno was really good and so was the carne seca. For desserts, the cherry chimis are really inventive and there's no other Mexican restaurants this side of town that serves it. They also have deep fried ice cream and flan if you're not in the mood to "experiment" and try a unique kind of dessert. The one interesting "downside" is that the name of the restaurant is "Los Nopales" but not one item on their menu has nopales lol...Nevertheless, this place is definitely worth a try. read more

What a happy accident for us to land here for a late breakfast this last Saturday. I say accident, because the tip we got from our local food truck guy out in Vail directed us to the place across the street... but here we thought he was talking about Los Nopales. Super friendly service, was not too busy on a Saturday late morning. We were immediately brought water, chips and salsa and the salsa was really robust and tasty. The hubs went for the, Huevos Rancheros and I got the special which were 2 Flat cheese enchilada (homemade red chili) and eggs. HUGE win on the red chili enchiladas, the sauce was so flavorful. We really enjoyed the breakfast, the prices were solid and portions big. The gentleman who served us I believe is the owners brother (or maybe he is part owner as well). He shared they have a smaller restaurant on the southside that has been around for 25 plus years out by Tucson Estates. Even though we live farther east, and this is about a 25-30 minute drive for us we will be back. read more
