OVERRATED ! good god, never heard so much hype over a place. Live in the area and was interested in trying it. First off fix the bad pa system, order calls sound worse than the teacher from Snoopy. I've only been to TJ for breakfast, and I must say that they are the best I've found in town. Their tacos are about twice the size of Rusty Taco's tacos so be careful when ordering or you'll end up with more food than you know what to do with! My favorites are the bacon taco and the brisket taco. My fiancé loves their chorizo breakfast tacos. Oh, and the jalapeno ranch is Ah-mazing...a must try!! read more

Taco Joint's opening of a Lakewood location is only further confirmation that tacos are here to stay. I referred in my last taco review to the Mexican street taco, American taco, gourmet taco continuum. Taco joint falls squarely in the middle. There's no ahi tuna option, but breakfast is served all day. The rice and beans, which are the only sides, are served together in the same Styrofoam cup. Hot sauce is extra. The conventional menu is varied only by a daily special, which brings in fish and pork. But their great success is witness to fact that they do the basics well. This location, not being off of Gaston, is open for dinner and has a bar. It's more of a hangout than a grab-and-go lunch spot. They have another wonderful Dallas mural and much more room. read more

Taco Joint is the most white-person Mexican food I've ever had, but sometimes that's what you want. Unchallenging cheese enchiladas? Safe salsa without even a touch of heat? Completely typical refried beans? School-cafeteria-worthy confetti rice? Yes, they have all of these things for when you want "not American" but "definitely not super duper authentic, oh heavens, no." This is a frequent place for me and my co-workers to stop and eat lunch. We have been pretty satisfied with the food thus far. This being said the management here has never once been welcoming or seem happy to see us around. Even had arguments with one of my co-workers. I stopped by the Taco Joint in the middle of the afternoon during the week. I had never been and wanted to try something different. They have a great patio and the inside is spacious with a dark, slightly dive feel. They cater heavily cater to the family crowd; nothing wrong with that, just something to be aware of. I sat at the bar and ordered a giant burrito. The bar tender was friendly and attentive, yet not overbearing; he was also helpful with the menu since it was my first time. The beer was cold and the food excellent. That said, my only complaint was not knowing how to eat the burrito. It was huge and came in a plastic basket. It was too big and messy to eat with my hands and the plastic eating utensils were too flimsy to cut it. The burrito also came wrapped in tin foil which I made the mistake of discarding. That left the burrito on a thin sheet of wax paper which tore apart and got mixed up with the food as I was trying to eat. I spent half my meal picking wax paper out of the burrito. All in all, I liked the Taco Joint and will make a point to return. I'll just be a bit more careful about how I eat my food next time. read more

So I tried the State Fair--good gravy I'm in heaven. Could you make breakfast a little more delicious and filling? It has everything, including eggs, potatoes, bacon and beans, in a big pan with tortillas on the side. I love this place in the morning after work! It serves and alcohol and some bomb food... great for us night shifters. I usually get The Gordo burrito with bacon and have tried the State Fair bowl as well. Both are so delicious and the combination of bacon, eggs, and potatoes are perfect with their yummy margaritas. I've also tried The Disaster which is their chips and queso and it was amazing. I can't say much for lunch times because I usually come during breakfast but I'm sure it is just as great! read more

I wanted the flautita plate... only served on one day of the week! I ordered the tortilla soup... but it came with NO TORTILLAS! I ordered a taco without lettuce... but it came with lettuce -- wrong order! No combo plates (like Zuzu's next door) Waste of my money. First and LAST time visit. On the bright side, it was really clean and the service was very good. The jalapeno ranch was good so I added to the bland chicken and veggie soup they were passing off as tortilla soup and my taco -- it's the only way the food had any flavor. Plus, there was a decent sized patio for lounging with a beer in good weather. I'd NEED a few beers to tolerate the food here... maybe that's why the bar was packed? ;) read more

Overrated! Wow. Just returned from an extremely failed night at Taco Joint. Really boring interior (besides the mural). Friendly service, but the food was so sub par. Started with the disaster Queso. Boring! I know not all dips can be compared to Bob Armstrong but this was a snore. What made it worse was the chips. Bland, unsalted (no salt on the table to remedy) and, again, boring. The chips actually tasted stale. I had the pork tacos, again, meh. Decent flavor but rather dry. Poured jalapeño ranch over it, but, frankly, the ranch at Chuys is better. There, I said it!! Refried beans tasted like they came out of a can. The red sauce at their salsa bar tasted like bland crushed tomatoes, nothing more. And $6 for a glass of wine in a place that has "joint" in the title? Really? Never going back. So many better taco options, people! read more

We really wanted to like this place and feel like we're missing something by the way the reviews rave. We've been fans of the Peak location's breakfast tacos, but we don't understand why folks stand in a line going out the door to spend $20 for some ok breakfast tacos. They just have 2 sauces - jalapeno ranch and red sauce that isn't very flavorful. We tried the Lakewood location for lunch and ended up spending $33 for two HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE enchillada combos and the disaster queso, which was ok, but the food(ther than the breakfast tacos) tastes like mexican food you'd find in New York - bad, bland, and made by people that have never tasted Mexican food at all.. The price is outrageous forthe poor/mediocre quality.. There are definately better options out there! read more

I like the taco joint. I don't love it, but it's a safe go-to place for a good, reasonably priced taco. The thing that makes it four stars in my book is the portion sizes - you get a pretty good sized taco for your buck... Especially at breakfast. Brisket taco at breakfast is a favorite. Salsas are also very well done - especially the extra hot ones, like 5 alarm, you can special order from behind the counter (sign listing them is on your right as you order. This location is definitely very family friendly! Like bring the whole kid's soccer team family friendly (which is awesome)! I brought my niece here when we were having a girl's day. She loved it! The tacos are good. I really enjoy their basic chips and queso and their jalapeno ranch. Oh and their veggie tacos too! None of the sauces were spicy. Brisket burrito was actually crock pot style pot roast and slimy in texture with only 2 spoonfuls of meat, not Texas style brisket. Burrito filled overfull of shredded iceberg lettuce, little bit of cheese, and chunked tomato only. No pico and nothing even remotely flavorful about it. Worst Burrito I have eaten in my life and cost $8 to top things off!! We went across the street to Fuzz's to eat after, leaving bites out of the "Big B" ie. shredded Iceberg lettuce wrap behind and running for the door. Awful!!! read more

The Lester taco was only slightly better than the double decker from a Taco Bell. The beef fajita meat was dry and not very flavorful. Queso was literally grocery store quality. Further, it's difficult to hear your name called when your order is ready and there is no atmosphere to speak of. Lots of children and somehow the entire building magnifies every conversation going on. Skip this place for lunch and drive 6 minutes to either if the nearby Torchy's, they aren't even in the same league in my opinion. I won't be coming back. read more

I come here about once a week and never get tired of the menu. My go-to is a breakfast taco with brisket, egg, cheese, and black beans and it never disappoints. Be sure to order the three different salsas listed on the sign to the right of the register if you can handle some heat.
