It's a great local place to grab a quick bite or get it to go. Nothing fancy but consistent and affordable. We go regularly.

I'll start off by saying the service here was great! Cashier took our order on the register and even brought our food to the table we sat down at. The decorations in here are so cute there was even a mini shelf with tiny jarritos! I ordered a torta de carne asada. I would give it a rating of 7.5/10. It wasn't the worst torta I had but felt as though the meat was pretty dry without the salsa. The bread definitely made me give this a higher rating it was so soft! And not the same bread most places used. The horchata was delicious and left me wanting to order another cup! No notes from me. I personally don't like when places make horchata too grainy and they definitely got it right here. Perfect level of sweetness too, not overpowering. Omg I just realized when I looked at my receipt when I got home they charged me $15 for a super burrito with no meat no veggies in it then added $5 on top because I asked for a Chile Relleno super burrito! I would understand if I had meat in it and asked to add a Chile relleno but it wasn't the case! The burrito was just ok, nothing amazing either. Used to love this place, but I'll be staying away. Just placed an order to eat there and saw the staff drop two large pieces of pineapple on the floor as they are making a juice. Instead of throwing the pineapple away, they calmly went to the sink and washed it off then threw the pieces in the blender and continued to make the juice. I left without my burrito and will find a new Mexican spot on Cortland to eat from now on. read more

Disappointing Experience Unfortunately, my recent visit to this establishment was a letdown. I ordered the chips and salsa and Quesabirria , which was one of the worst I've ever had. The dish was just oily , watery , lacked flavor, which was disappointing. They brought me a very small bowl of salsa and a basket of old chips . Not good at all . The lackluster food may have contributed to the noticeable absence of customers. The restaurant itself is very clean , nicely decorated and cute though . I wish they had better food . Taco Los Altos is a little Taqueria in my neighborhood. They serve up decent tacos, burritos and nachos. They have daily aqua frescas and make good micheladas. They are one of the lesser expensive sit down restaurants on Cortland and always have ample seating, so it's easy get a table outside if you have your pups with you or sit inside if you have a group. The only thing I had that I didn't really enjoy as much was the breakfast nachos. Nice idea, but wasn't as good as the regular nachos or the breakfast burrito. read more

First time here; and it was kinda a let down. Heard good stuff about this place and it's a clean place. It's a homey, slightly upscale, low key place. And you are paying for that. Yet the two taco plate, with rice and beans could have been better. Each taco had about a table spoon and a half more, of protein, in my case carnitas. Each taco is on two small generic corn tortillas. And a good table spoon of fresh chopped cilantro, onions and green hot sauce. The small bowl of spanish rice and refried black beans were good tasting. I think there should have been more protein in the taco's. For $15.00, you are basically getting just what I wrote. Now, if you don't care for much protein, your $15 will get you far, and with plenty of carbs. I did tip well. There are better options out there. We went there a week ago. read more

Awesome service and really fantastic food. Rarely do I think grilled veggie burritos or tacos really hit the mark. Too often the veggies are bland, under cooked, and just disappointing in general. Not here though! Taco Los Altos clearly cares about the product they put out including for their vegetarian and vegan patrons. The Super Veggie Tacos were fantastic, in particular the homemade tortillas were a favorite. My wife usually finds most beans to be bland, but the beans here really hit the mark. The Burrito Mojado was even better in my opinion. The rice and beans inside were really excellent along with of course the grilled veggies I mentioned above. The real star for me was the slightly sweet and definitely tangy green sauce which was really awesome. It was also pretty massive in size! The also have hot sauce which we were offered when our food was brought out. We got the habanero (but I think a few options are available?) which was awesome, almost a bit too spicy for me but I'll definitely be asking for it when I go back! One thing to note is that the prices here may be a little high relative to places in the mission or others nearby (in particular compared to the portions), but the quality you are getting is definitely a step up from the typical. There is definitely more creativity on the menu, with higher quality ingredients. Along with that is a clean, comfortable, and cozy seating. In particular the outdoor seating along Cortland is super cute and we did end up sitting inside which has a classic but slightly elevated style to it. read more

I enjoyed my visit here and would recommend it. I ordered to-go: the super veggie burrito and a side of chips and salsa, plus orange juice. It was my first time at this restaurant. During my wait I was offered a sample of several flavors of the aquas frescas. I was so impressed by the flavor of the drinks that I ordered two. The burrito was tasty and I felt the ingredients were quality. It had good flavor and wasn't overly salty or thrown together like many other SF veggie burritos I've had. It had a unique goodness about it that made me look forward to enjoying it again. It could have had more veggies and more solid items inside to give it structure -- seemed like it was all mushy inside unfortunately. Plus the price was higher than I'd prefer for what I got. However, it tasted good. The chips seemed not as fresh as I'd prefer. The salsa roja was delicious and tasted like it was made with quality ingredients. The salsa verde was boring and rather flavorless to my surprise. The orange juice was delicious. I didn't drink the two Aguas frescas yet but I will; they were served with beautiful presentation of some fruits and herbs on the top -- most taquerias drinks don't taste that great and they are served without extras, so I appreciate theirs. I didn't eat there so no ambiance review, but it seemed pleasant for me to eat there someday -- clean, decorated. The service was friendly and with genuine smiles, which I greatly appreciated. The food from here easily represents a single digit percentage of all the food my family eats. It's home style Mexican food and no matter where I travel or what other great Mexican food I eat, I always look forward to the convenience and taste of the food from this place. Their burritos are so satisfying to me. My family each has their own favorites and we just repeatedly order it over and over again. It's actually quite therapeutic for us to know after travel or the busyness of life we can grab an easy meal from here, reset with familiarity, and just enjoy each other's company. The portion was small and I was not very hungry so it was ok . I finished it all but if I was really hungry the portion was not enough for one person . The price was affordable. I need to update my old review. We have become big fans of Taco Los Altos - especially their breakfast tacos and veggie burritos! Tasty food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. We've picked up lunch to go from Taco Los Altos two days in row. Yesterday, I got their breakfast tacos, which have eggs and chorizo - they are delicious! Today, I got the veggie burrito with chicken added - this has become my go to item here, and it is fresh, flavorful, and healthy. I love the fact that the veggie burrito comes with grilled vegetables (a mix of bell pepper, zucchini, broccoli, onions, etc.). I get it on a whole wheat tortilla, with black beans, and no rice. It's great! The staff is friendly, and if you go when it's not busy, the food is ready for pick up within 10 minutes. I appreciated being able to pay by Apple Pay, and also appreciated the fact they had a "no touch" hand sanitizer dispenser next to the register. I've enjoyed everything I've had here and the service is great! I've had tacos, ceviche and a few plates and all of them were good. I highly recommend the ceviche as my personal favorite and I also enjoyed their Quesabirria. I've had Taco Los Altos a few times over the years and it has consistently stayed delicious. Recently I ordered 40 tacos (carne asada and pastor) for my clinic and it was a hit! The tacos were packaged neatly and were individually wrapped in it's own paper vessel. The meat was super flavorful and juicy. I also ordered the different salsas and you can tell the love and time they put into making them. The salsas had a Smokey, fresh flavor and was the perfect accompaniment on top of the tacos or with the freshly fried tortilla chips. The avocado salsa was the absolute favorite among my peers and received compliments from the even the most pickiest or food snob eaters, haha. I also enjoy the aguas frescas and the desserts! The dessert empanadas and the flan cheesecake are perfect to enjoy after your savory meal. I highly recommend this establishment and they've also added a breakfast/brunch menu and outdoor seating which is a bonus! read more

The breakfast tacos and breakfast nachos are my absolute favs. They do not skimp you on ingredients at all and the pickled onions and jalapeños on top are so good. I was once on a sort of half intentional Nacho Quest about six years ago and probably had Super Nachos more than a couple of dozen times, over a relatively short period of time. I researched blogs, Yelp. and city periodicals for the best Nachos in town. This place has, so far, been the best. All aspects of the Nachos were perfect. The quality and flavor of the meat is fantastic and very tender with no gristle. The house-made tortilla chips were thick and resistant to sogging, even at the bottom of the plate, Perfect amount of cheese and toppings (we asked for extra cilantro and carne asada for a nominal increase). When I don't want to cook and want something fresh that's not fast food I come here! And it always hits the spot, a few of my favorites is the nachos with black beans, chicken and veggies TO DIE FOR. Another favorite is a veggie taco with tortilla hecho a mano (hand made tortilla) you can just taste the freshness and they load that taco with hella veggies. AND the breakfast!!!
