Came here while I waited for my pup to get groomed next door and wow ! So glad I came here. The name threw me off but this place is great. It has its traditional tacos as well as more fusion style tacos. They have vegetarian options as well. Complimentary chips and salsa. My fave thing is that they have a salsa bar. I am a huge Taco Madre fan. Well, a huge fan of their original Montgomery location (please see my other review). I was really excited when they decided to open one in Naperville. It's so much closer and I don't need to drive all the way there. While this place is more modern and actually has air conditioning (lol) unlike the original location, it just doesn't come close. The menu and sauces are the exactly the same but something's missing. Everything tastes close to the other place but not quite. The salsa and rice are a little blander and service is a little incompetent. They do not consistently serve pina colada/horchata like the other locations. They sometimes substitute with this odd cantaloupe-y tasting drink. I tried the churros (and the manager actually comp'ed it for us) with chocolate and caramel sauce. While the sauces were good, the churros were chewier than they were crispy. All in all, it's still a pretty decent mexican joint but if you're willing to make the drive/are in the area, I'd definitely recommend the original location in Montgomery instead. read more

It's in a strip mall with a fast food style . Place your order , and then help yourself to the salsa bar with about 6 different salsa to enjoy with your free chips or when the two gals ( runners ) Ellie and Minnie bring your tacos to your table. A nice touch was a second basket of chips no charge with their signature salsa served heated . I went at a time when they weren't busy but Ellie and Minnie told me that the place really rocks on the weekend. We tried this place out on Cinco De Mayo and found our new favorite taco spot in the suburbs. The location is a bit difficult to spot at first - it's in a strip mall next to a Binny's hidden behind trees - but perhaps that's why such an excellent place was relatively un-crowded on Cinco De Mayo. Interior had a trendy, young, fresh vibe - would be nice for a casual daytime date. This is a walk up, order what you want, and wait on the server to bring it to you type of restaurant. However, I found the servers very attentive and knowledgeable without being annoying about it. I tried 3 different tacos on their gourmet menu - each of which was more fabulous than the last. Our 4 young kids each found something they loved on the kids menu which is exceedingly rare. Horchata and pina colada were both excellent. I would highly recommend. read more

First timer, went with my husband, two nieces and two kids and we all enjoyed it. Two of us are vegans one vegetarian, and three kids who can be picky. Everyone loved their food. OH MY GOD! THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD!! Let me preface this review by saying that I truly am not a fan of tacos--it takes a lot for me to actually enjoy. So to say that I think about Taco Madre tacos on a regular basis shows just how amazing this place is. First off, the decor is eh. It looks a little sketchy inside, but I've seen worse. We got 6 tacos--the paneer taco, the mahi mahi, chicken tinga, mango bbq, barbacoa, mayan, and blackened shrimp. EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS SO. GOOD. Every one!!! Restaurant staff was very nice at lunch time. 3-taco plate was very delicious with a selection different tacos accompanied with rice and black beans. The chips and salsas were very tasty too. Honestly I come here every couple of weeks when ever I have some extra money on hand I used to get the Chimichanga with steak and a fountain drink, I used to order it enough times that the cashier knew my order when she saw me. Now a days I order the Nacho Supreme and a fountain drink because I can get extra chips for free to mop up whats left on the plate plus its a very large serving the first time I ordered it I ordered a small burrito to go with it not knowing how big it would be and ended up taking the burrito home instead (Which I might add kept very well in the fridge for two days and was delicious) Thats my review and the only reason I'm giving it a four out of five is because unless my taste buds explode from happiness I don't really see the reason to Tobias - 4/5 I'm more than likely gonna come back again sometime this month read more

My new go to spot for Mexican (apologies to my old spot just down the street). Great and friendly service; more fresh and made to order food than my old spot. Specialty tacos are a nice way to mix up the menu and I like the various salsa bar offerings that you can pair with your tacos and the chips on the house when you dine in. My go to is the steak taco. I've been to other mexican resturants and Taco Madre is my favorite to go for great mexican food. The service is good and presentation of the food is great. The tortas are amazing and fills you up pretty good. The burritos themselves are great and filling. The chips are nice and crunchy while the salsa has nice flavor. The Horchata is sweet and creamy. I really did like the place. In my opinion it was a little bit pricey for the portion you get. You do get chips as soon as you are seated but they aren't the tastiest. They have a salsa bar which is cool. We tried the Carne asada torta. It was average but I wish the bread was toasted. We tried the taco Madre and another one on the special board. They were both tasty but like I said small. They do have creative options but for $4 per taco it leaves you pretty unsatisfied. The customer service was great. I just wouldn't rush back. read more

I last reviewed this place in early 2018 when it was new, and had given it 5 stars. We have been visiting quite often since then, and much has changed for the worse, including the menu and food. It's also significantly declined in terms of value for money. The menu is now average. At $4 a taco, you get something so average, it should be less than 2 bucks. I ordered a Mexican rice bowl with chicken, and they seem to take it too literally. Probably close to 90% of stuff on the bowl is just rice, with some chicken, tomato bits (cannot call it pico), and grated cheese on top. For us this place was supposed to be a good alternative to a chipotle or qdoba, now it's just a poorer cousin. read more

The food was all VERY good. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food. I went with the pastor tacos, they were delicious. They have about 15 different tacos to choose from on their menu plus other non-taco authentic mexican offerings. They also have a salsa bar with about 5-6 different salsa/hot sauces to choose from, I tried a couple and they were both great. I have just two slight gripes that kept me from giving this a 5-star review. My first complaint is seating, there were four adults in my party but the booths are tiny and not suitable for 4 adults to fit comfortably. They did have 4 or 5 tables(not boths) that were larger than the booths but they were all full so we had to sit in a very crammed both. They need to address the seating issue. My other slight complaint was they give you some complimentary chips and salsa, which were both amazing by the way but they just give you this tiny little paper basket full of chips, enough for about 1 people, maybe two if you are light eaters but it was definitely not enough for a party of four adults. Like I said those were very minor complaints I will definitely be returning and would recommend Taco Madre to anyone looking for good tacos. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my wife who has a vegan diet. Based on the reviews our expectations were high. I ordered the chicken fajitas, my wife had the vegetable fajitas. To summarize both were average at best. Spicing on the vegetables was inconsistent and to be honest bland. With my order, the chicken was pretty much tasteless. It's possible that this dish is not a strong point for them. Service was surly. Ordering as a vegan is more complicated as you frequently ask about the ingredients. Good service usually responds with a smile and " I will check on that". In this case, she rolled her eyes. I might have understood the behavior (not that it is acceptable in any situation) if the restaurant was busy but in this case there were three people already served, three people ordering including us and the kitchen is 10 feet away. I have enjoyed this place since I discovered it in the early days of Covid. I come often, but they have a high turnover of people so they don't remember you. Anyway, they used to give you chips and salsa with to-go orders but new management says not anymore! Charge you $2 for the salsa , I didn't even ask about the chips. I didn't know what to expect in this part of the world and I also didn't know how ordering via uber eats would work out (There was a storm outside!). I've always liked the food here but it's very expensive for what you get. I got 2 tacos and my total was $8.66 which is just outrageous to me. It feels like this chain grew too fast and has lost some of the things I liked so much about them. They're no longer personable and friendly and are just another chain restaurant which is sad because at the beginning the people remembered who I was and it was more reasonably priced on top of that. Meh.. I came back to Taco Madre as they gave a first good impression when they first opened. Second experience was not so good. First off the girl although very nice, sold me on this lunch combo that apparently didn't come w/ the special tacos as she said it does for the price. When I found out I already paid. I wouldn't have ordered them if I have to pay extra. I could have ordered the specialty taco w/o the combo and saved more than what I wanted to spend that day. It's disappointing that although she did ask the manager about misleading me, the manager never thought to give me the cost difference. The worst part is that I was looking forward to my order (I ordered to-go) and come to find out one of the taco that was supposed to have chorizo did not have any, the other taco didn't have as much pineapple apple I could barely taste it. The steak was so chewy, I could chew it for days! All in all, the flavor is somewhat there. The rice had flavor and the black beans was not soggy. The specialty sauce was good.
