Came across Taco Maya on DoorDash and was craving Mexican food! Taco Maya has a high rating and nachos were starred as one of the most ordered menu items so let's try it! Ordered the supreme nachos, ground beef, no guacamole...the meat was a tad salty but other than that it's a very big serving (def can share). Also ordered one birria taco which was excellent w/ the consume. I like that you can choose corn or flour tortillas (always choose corn for birria). Would definitely try again!

Very very good tacos in my opinion, and they came out quick. I really liked the shrimp and chingon tacos. El pastor was okay, not my top choice as it's less juicy. Our server was nice.

I placed an order at 9:01pm via their mobile app. My sister found this location as it was near our hotel. On their website, they have you get $7 off your first order via the app. When placing the order via the app, the discount did not apply. I called the restaurant and I was told they would manually check that it's my first order and provide a refund. I got the kids chicken quesadilla and fries for my son. I got the 3 taco plate American and Mexican style without lettuce and tomato. One taco was chicken, one was steak, and one was chorizo. I got rice and beans on the side. The order was ready at 9:09pm. I like how they placed the refried beans in a little fried tortilla cup so that it wouldn't be messy and mixed with the other food. More Mexican restaurants should do this! My favorite taco was the steak one. The other two were okay. My son enjoyed his food and the fries were seasoned, which was nice. I stole a few, haha. They have lunch and daily specials throughout the week. I didn't get a change to return as i was on vacation, but I would in the future.

A friend was visiting Chicago and on a whim we decided tacos were what we wanted for lunch. With zero expectations, we arrived at Taco Maya, and right away, we were pleased with the environment and the cleanliness of the place. It was busy, for lunch hour, because it was a weekday, and yet the service was super quick. Here's a breakdown of everything: The chips and salsa: chips were super crispy, and had a hint of salinity, which is the mark I always look for in a good chip. The salsa was great as well, flavorful without being too spicy, you kept wanting to go back for more. The Birria tacos were a hit with my friend, and she loved the horchata. My shrimp tacos were pretty good too, but nothing to write home about. The chicken taco I got was fantastic, and again, it hit the right spice level without overwhelming the protein. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas and devoured each bite. The rice was warm and delicious, but the beans were PHENOMENAL, and the little chip cup they come in made all the different because it added the perfect texture to scoop the beans with, or break and eat with. The STAR of my day, and the show, was the Espresso Horchata - I will go back to this place for the espresso horchata alone! Definitely recommend!

This is a nice casual restaurant to come grab a quick bite. They have an extensive menu and have a lot of different fusion food which I loved. They also give the option of just getting a few small things instead of having to order big platters of food. We had come here as we wanted something light for dinner and this place fit the bill. It didn't look very busy but we realized quickly that they had a lot of to go/take out orders. When we sat down they gave us free chips and salsa and the salsa was very flavorful. My favorite part of the restaurant was that they had a salsa bar! SO many delicious salsas to pick from and mix and match. I loved it! I got the tostada and it was the perfect combination of flavorful and light. My friend got the tacos and she said they were also good. They also seems to have an extensive bar and their margaritas looked amazing! I'd easily come back here. Service was quick and fast.

We were not about to wait 1 1/2 hours to be seated at a landmark pizza place; so, we were in the area and Yelp reviewers did not disappoint! This little place is a true gem! Brought chips upon arrival and salsa but their salsa bar really rocked!!! Got the Dorado and they were delicious! Nice atmosphere as they had good lighting and friendly staff. A must if you're in the area.

Taco Maya is getting a rare five-star review. The tacos were excellent and the chips and salsa far exceeded expectations. Service was fast and friendly, but the ordering process was a bit more confusing than necessary. Those dining in order on a smartphone app, but ordering at the counter would be faster and easier. I do like that you pay on the smartphone app, but I'm not impressed with having to tip before I receive my food or service. In a sense this could be considered tipping extortion, because if you don't tip, what are they going to do to your food?

This is my new to go, causal and fusion-y taco place. Obviously not authentic Mexican, but if you're looking for a twist, definitely recommend. Absolutely love the menu and the extensive list of options. As an Indian, the new Indian food themed tacos were great. What they definitely have going for them are the reasonable prices on some of the more standard tacos and the salsa bar (my favorite part). Some might find the prices steep, but it's what you expect for River North. I enjoy sampling all the salsas, especially because I love spicy food. I also like that they have some good options for my vegetarian friends. The drinks/margaritas are a plus (can't wait to try the margarita flight). Inside of the restaurant is clean with plenty of space to sit. The servers were nice as well. They bring the food out to you as it's ready and the rest is pretty self-service.

Solid Mexican fast food. Love their extensive menu and open salsa bar. Sat us down with some chips and warm salsa. I got the burrito bowl with Carnitas, it was delicious with the Avocado Salsa from the bar. A bit pricey but portion sizes are big. Service is quick and their online order and pay set-up is easy.

Extremely friendly staff! Very clean and our food came out very fast. I ordered the el pastor taco, dorado taco and chicken tinga taco. All were cooked perfectly and tasted great. My husband got a salad that he really liked as well. They have a salsa bar if you want salsa options. Get the churros for dessert! Def recommend. read more

The restaurant itself is very nice, love the style and vibe. I tried the Pork belly, Korean BBQ, and Yucatán tacos. The tacos where so delicious!! The pork belly was very good. My husband had the milanesa torta which was also very good. The service was great, and their horchata is one of the best I have tried. This is definitely a must to visit for tacos and drinks. This was my first time and probably my last. I went in and ordered two tacos and a fountain drink. My bill was almost $13. I thought to myself maybe it comes with rice and beans which it did not. The tacos were flavorful but holy crap are they small. These are not the typical sized tortillas that everyone uses. I love eating tacos for lunch several times a week. I cant see spending thirty plus dollars each time to get enough tacos that will fill me up. This was me just trying them out and this was a let down. read more

I had seen the location in the South Loop a couple of times and caught my attention and made a mental note to try. However was walking by their new River North location and decided to pop in. Saying it's fast casual doesn't do it justice, because their food and cocktails rival any sit-down restaurant. I was with a friend and we got a bunch of stuff to share. We got the chips and guacamole which were great, fires ala' Mexicana which were sinfully good, shrimp tacos that were incredible, Mahi Mahi tacos that were perfection, and beef tostada to round out the food portion. Ingredients were all fresh and flavors were spot on. I got the skinny margarita that was delicious and made me feel a little less guilt about the amount of food we ordered. lol My lunch companion got the watermelon margarita that was fresh squeezed watermelon juice that was yummy! All the margaritas are made with premium tequila. I can't say enough great things about this place and plan on going back SOON! read more

This place is great, our family's new favorite fast food place! Ambience is chill and cool and the staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. You can taste the FRESHNESS in the food... Right from the LIPSMACKING margaritas to the last bite! The CHILE RELLENO TACO was my absolute favorite, simply DELICIOUS and the Paneer and Chili Potato tacos were close seconds. I work right near this place so I was excited when they opened. Tacos were 3.75 and on Taco Tuesday it's buy 2 get one free. I love 3 for the price of 2. But this place can't pay it's bills. So now a fountain soda is $4. That's apparently the highest I have seen in the nation. Chipotle down the street is 1.80 for small and 2.10 for large. And this place just bumped the price of chips and salsa to $9. NINE dollars. WTF? If you eat in the restaurant you get chips for FREE. What makes them think cheese sauce is worth 9 dollars???... I have no idea. The owner is not Mexican so I am pretty sure they are gonna put themselves straight out of business, I will not eat at a restaurant to pay their rent. Either you give me value or I don't bother patronizing you. And now tacos are 4.25 a piece. So bye bye Taco Maya. I hope you go out of business like every other place that tried this location. You didn't give the businesses in the area and kind of offering or coupon deals SO why would we have our best clients order in from you??? You offer me nothing in return. It needs to be a 2 way system. You are a 1 way system. Bye Bye. read more

A total gem! Taco Maya is the perfect combo of upscale & casual. The taco menu is extensive and the mahi mahi tacos are the best we've ever had. Amara, our host/server, knew so much about the menu that we had tons of choices! Lots of vegetarian, fish & carnivore options. Definitely worth the stop. read more

SO GOOD! If you're looking for amazing food, drinks, and service I'd definitely recommend Taco Maya! I stopped by this week for dinner with a friend and the guy who took our order was so helpful and suggested great options based on our preferences! My friend is vegetarian and they had a great selection for her which is typically hard to find. Definitely coming back here to try out the other tacos! read more

Chicken tenders were ok but nothing too special or different. Cookies and cream milkshake was delicious, like drinking ice cream. Fast, friendly service, inexpensive but most importantly delicious! Would recommend. The place is small but a great location by the river, and there were tables around the side with a view of the river.

Portillo's & Barnelli's Chicago

Since Chicago is known for the Chicago-style hot dog and Italian beef sandwich, I knew I had to try…read moreboth while in town. Fortunately Portillo's offers both and it was recommended by locals and previous travelers to make this my one restaurant to try both. I arrived on foot on a Saturday before 10pm and there was a long line to order on the kiosks and a security guard by the door. The restaurant has two floors of seating with dated decor all around, assumingly part of the intended vibe of the establishment. The first floor seating was all taken but there were plenty of tables available on the second floor. I was able to try Portillo's hot dog and Italian beef sandwich. The hot dog included mustard, relish, celery salt, freshly chopped onions, sliced tomatoes, pickle, and peppers on a poppy seed bun. The paper wrapper was strategically wrapped around the Chicago dog inside out, knowing that the logo would be clearly visible when people take pictures of the unwrapped hot dog. I ordered a regular hot dog but probably should've ordered a jumbo hot dog for a dollar more since then regular was tiny; for comparison it was definitely smaller than a Costco hot dog. Although the toppings complemented the hot dog well, the bun was soggy from being wrapped in the paper for only a few minutes. The standard big Italian beef sandwich (slightly wet) was much larger for more than double the price of the hot dog, with no Portillo's branding on that wrapper. I was a little too excited to order this that I forgot to add sweet and hot peppers, but the sandwich still tasted very good. After ordering I realized I probably should've ordered the gravy on the side so I can dip the sandwich more, but again it was still very good. For dessert I tried the lemon cake slice and strawberry shortcake. The lemon cake was a little dry and really sweet and the strawberry shortcake had a little too much mascarpone cheese whipped topping for my liking, but of course I didn't have to finish it all. Portillo's is a good option for casual fast food and for travelers to try. I definitely prefer the Italian beef sandwich over the Chicago dog, but that is my personal preference. For a sweet treat, the strawberry shortcake is a nice option if no other dessert places are nearby. To save time during peak hours, it may be a good idea to order ahead on the mobile app.

Truffle Croissant (5/5): A must get, super intense black truffle against a perfectly flaky and chewy buttery croissant. The large bits of pearl sugar add pops of sweetness that I loved. Mango Tart (4.75/5): Mango really shines through with melt in your mouth texture and fruity sweetness. Coconut pasty cream adds almost a nutty flavor and luscious mouthfeel to contrast against the lightly crunchy cookie crust. Prosciutto Croissant (4.5/5): Pastry again impeccable with sharp saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese. Still absolutely delicious, but hard to recommend with how good the other items were. Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich (5/5): Another life changing bite. Hash brown add on is unbelievably crunchy against the egg bite that is pillowy soft and fluffy roll. Longanisa is salty and sweet, just the best way to start your morning. Lumpia (3.75/5): Comes out piping hot and the meat still stays juicy and bouncy. Good, not crazy. Filipino Breakfast with Longanisa and Tocino (4/5): Garlic rice is fluffy, but heavy on the garlic exactly like I love it. Sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked and the two meats were actually the weakest components, a bit chewier than expected. The crust was thin and crispy, with a large air cavity, making it very soft and fluffy. The salted egg yolk has just the right balance of sweetness and saltiness, and wasn't too cloying. Garlic Cheese Brioche Bun蒜香奶酪麵包: Perhaps its more Taiwanese name is "八蒜包" (Eight Garlic Bun). Its appearance and taste were very similar to those I've had at Taiwanese bakeries in mainland China. The cheese and garlic flavors were very strong, but the bread itself was slightly coarse. Hojicha Latte: The whole milk was very milky, but the hojicha flavor felt a little weak. However, it's already great to find a tea latte that's not very sweet.

We were walking by and saw this beautiful brand new restaurant. My girl looked online (IG) and found positive stories and posts. They have certainly tried to make this place look cool ..we ordered guacamole, elotes, shrimp, chicken and steak tacos with rice and beans. They really pushed the margaritas and we decided to give it a try. We were super hungry and very excited. Until now, everything was good. The first turn off was when the guy (lean guy who looked Mexican/Indian?) preparing our order put his hands on his nose and mouth to wipe away his sweat WITH HIS GLOVES ON!!!! We didn't want to look anymore. The food arrives. Presentation was amazing. Food looked fresh given that this is a new place. That's about it! The food had no flavor. Tasted like nothing. The chicken was not even seasoned. The elotes - OMG A JOKE. The steak and chicken were dry. I was born in Mexico and have had my fair share of street food. This place was a disappointment - a culture vulture? Please don't call it authentic Mexican food and mix it up with other cuisines. Looks like they were over ambitious and got confused. The positives - guacamole was phenomenal. The patio was great! I had high expectations for the Marg - an utter disappointment. Very very weak and too sweet. Even my girl didn't like it!! Will I give this place another chance? Yes. In 6 months. After they have ironed out their kinks. For this price, I can go to many other taco joints and have more delicious food. This is honestly the worst taco place I have ever been to. The worker at the grill had his mask around his chin, dropped a brand new pair of gloves on the ground (and then proceeds to pick them up and put them on) and has his phone out making a video of him making the food. Come on man...there is a pandemic going on. Safety first; juvenile behavior later! Ordering was a pain. I am not sure whether it is because of language issues but I had to repeat everything over and over. They pushed me to get the potato and Indian tofu dish. I kept saying no and wanted the chicken. Its like they have an agenda to sell the tofu dish first. I am the customer. Give me what I want darn it!!! This place says authentic Mexican but honestly i think they are authentically confused. They have Indian people selling Indian style tofu and the rice is like fast food Chinese. No one was asked to wear masks and people were walking around screaming when the football game was on. Extremely loud and not good food. Not worth the money they charge. Do not recommend going here. read more

If you are desperately hungry and are willing to repeat your order a million times and wouldn't mind if they got it wrong then go here. This place is a shame given that it looks so gorgeous. Expensive, slow, unseasoned food, small portions, extremely bad service, oily tacos and the list keeps going on. How could they mess up a simple order? Even the margarita was not worth the price. I was so excited looking at the patio, location and interiors and was duped. I am going to take my money elsewhere. I really wanted to support a minority owned business but they have to do their part! I will not go back. I agree with the other reviewer; this place needs some serious help. read more
