I came here with a friend on a week night around 8ish and it was packed which is always a good sign. My friend had tried them when they were at Taco fest in highwood and told me she absolutely loved their shrimp tacos so I knew I had to go try them out with her. When you arrive, the guys take your order and give you a pager for when your food will be ready so I like that it's casual enough but yet the atmosphere doesn't make it look like a hole in the wall kind of place. They have a salsa bar which i can't say anything really caught my eye as I prefer their warmer salsa they serve. I ordered the shrimp taco, an el pastor taco and a steak taco and basically had a dinner for about $10 which is a good deal in my opinion. Our food was ready pretty fast and we picked it on up. There presentation was also very nice as the tacos definitely looked appetizing. I really liked the shrimp taco with the aoli sauce so definitely order that one if you come here, the pastor taco was also pretty good but not as good as the shrimp taco. The steak taco was okay, a little on the chewy side but definitely edible. Overall, the place is a nice casual Wednesday night dinner, a little further away from me but if I'm in the area I would definitely come back and just get those super yummy shrimp tacos. I have continuously been happy with their tacos. So fresh and so delicious. Even for delivery, every single time. With that being said, I decided to try something new. I tried their Chicken Fajita's. Very disappointed. The chicken tasted like it was pre-cooked, came from a bag and cooked in the microwave. Not fresh or flavorful at all. Very chewy. I have ordered for delivery from here many times and always happy. However, this was not the case and in the end, the chicken ended up in my garbage. Waste of money. We came in for dine-in during COVID-19 precautions. The owners of Taco Maya are doing an amazing job of continuing to provide amazing food and service! The food is a fusion of Mexican, Tex-Mex, and near East flavors. Paneer tacos, for example, are a treat! We tried a nacho platter with Carne Asada, and it was huge! This could have been enough for both of us, and it was absolutely delicious! We also tried a Chimichanga with Al Pastor, which was also amazing. Because of the size of the Nacho platter, I ended up taking the chimichanga to work for lunch, and it was still good a day later. The service is also super responsive. They have their menu online (use your phone) but have something to use in house as well. Boards are down, and no paper menus laying about as before COVID. Prices seem a touch higher, but I can't speak to how much an increase, and is also expected with extra costs associated with cleaning and products. With this restaurant located in a small shopping strip, We were so surprised when we walked in to see such a nice looking and well done restaurant. Even though It's a walk up, counter style restaurant they still give you a basket of chips along with delicious warm salsa. As I looked around at other people's food. I noticed that the tortas and the burrito looked amazing. But my girlfriend and both opted for tacos. First of all. Their Chilli relleno taco is the probably the best tasting taco I've ever had! The mahi mahi is incredible! And the al pastor is delicious! They also some Indian flair as they offer a Paneer cheese taco which is Also delicious. We had Taco Madre for this first try via a carryout dinner. I had their 3 taco dinner for $10.39 pre-tax. It was a delightful, delicious, satisfying, and a good-value meal to boot. I had the mahi-mahi taco (my favorite with the fried offering and having it American style). I also had their spicy Chilango, and grilled steak taco, both Mexican style. They were both nice, and the Chilango had some kick to it. It was good to try both styles, but I will stick to American style on any future orders as the Mexican style was overpowering on the cilantro, and there was not much detectable as far as the grilled onions. Wife enjoyed a grilled steak taco American style and an Al Pastor (pork) taco Mexican style. Great place for Mexican and we may try sit-down someday also. Go to local taco spot from now on! Tried out the steak, chicken, and pork tacos. Pork was kind of salty for me but I really enjoyed the steak and chicken. Tacos were part of the 3 taco dinner plate. Properly presented with delicious rice and black beans. I also tried out the al pastor torta. Flavorful with a generous amount of avocado! Along side the drinks are a variety of different sauces. I am obsessed--OBSESSED--with this place. How did I not know that it has been only a mile from my work this entire time? I've eaten there twice this week, and I plan to make a third trip, tomorrow. I come from TN--the land of Tex-Mex. There's a special brand of Mexican food in the south, and I've yet to find it in Chicagoland, but I found it at Taco Madre. Stopped here on a whim and we are so glad we did! Tacos were delicious Mexican style with cilantro and GRILLED ONIONS! Tortillas were cooked perfectly and both refried and black beans were good. My husband was thoroughly satisfied with his carne asada taco dinner. I had one chicken, one carne asada, and one shrimp and each was perfect. So we have driven by here, hundreds of times, since they opened... just never remember the place when we're getting Mexican take-out. Finally remembered it was there and popped in. First, I think its important to note that the place was solidly busy, not just a few tables populated, but tables and constant flow in and out of the joint... I think that says something, right there. Next, the food... good choices, I'm especially happy when Mexican restaurants offer something other than steak, ground beef, chicken and pork... Barbacoa is a bit of an obsession with me, so the fact that I had the opportunity to get it, made me very happy. Little things to point out, they are VERY clear on the menu as to what is offered as the topping and how to order "Mexican" (onions & cilantro) or "American" (blended cheeses, lettuce & tomato), so unless you're not paying attention, you'll get it just the way you want it. So the place is good, and we enjoyed our food, but they didn't get top marks from us (yet) because the tortillas fell apart in the to-go containers, so we had to eat tacos with a fork, the flavor was a bit lacking on the barbacoa that I was so looking forward too, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't fantastic and the burritos at $6.99 were a bit on the small side, not a lot bigger than the $4.99 jr. burrito. This is a must try place. I only went once. I've tried two other places in this area and this one is outstanding. The service is awesome. Everyone is super friendly. They have the best salasas (sauce) it's hard to choose a favorite. The chips were fresh. They taste like they are made on site, the tortilla's too. Sometimes the tortilla gets lost in a taco. It can be a bland pale thing that holds the food together. The tortilla is just as good as the meat its holding. You can really taste the corn. I tried the Signature Taco that had avocado and pineapple among other things. It needed nothing. To put any one of those awesome salsa's would have been an insult. A friend and I were in the area on a Friday evening, both craving some genuine Mexican food. We got to Taco Madre around 7pm, which is apparently usually when they start to get really busy--on Fridays at least--though seating was fairly available still. Driving up to the place, we already both could see how well-decorated and kept the place was through their big windows. I loved the colors and the whole atmosphere of the place. I ordered the 3 taco dinner, containing 3 different tacos; my favorite was the "paneer" a specialty taco of theirs (tofu with curry-like spices). So. Good. There are plenty of other items to choose from, so I'm sure everyone will be able to find something they'll like. I especially appreciated that they had many vegetarian options. The paneer tacos are great vegan choice Oh so tasty. Bite size grilled paneer with mint and chutney on a flour tortilla. A bit of Indian fusion so amazing. Interesting crowd. We sat next to a lovely family of Indian ancestry and the women were talking about all the different Indian spices that were mixed with the Mexican fare. Chili Relleno's was good. Just tried to eat the filling and lay off the carbs. The steak tacos are great I had to wipe the drool off my face when I tasted it .the chilegno is chorizo which I'm not a fan of it but mix it up with grilled steak and what's not to love. However the black beans and the re fried beans come in a deep fried tortilla and had to drizzle the yummy chipotle sauce on it. I need to learn there secrets in making this scrumptious food. I've been meaning to stop by this spot for a while now since I pass it up on my way home. After seeing a lot of feedback here I thought it was going to be a sure hit. Walking in, there is plenty of space and very clean. I noticed the menu wasn't above the grill like I'm used to but it was no biggie, just grabbed a menu and took it from there. Some of the good: -Horchata (Rice Water) was really good! Sometimes you can taste the artificial mix you buy at the grocery store so I was delighted to see this was not the case for this one. Something I found strange but good was it was self-serve, I don't think I've ever seen Horchata self serve...ever so it was nice. -The carne asada was tasty and had a good grilled taste (al carbon). -Friendly service and I really liked their little salsa bar. Thought it was something cool a lot of places don't incorporate. (And they even had the toothpicks! I always joke with people that its a quick way to find an authentic Mexican place is if you find toothpicks at the front counter) Now the bad: -The cheese that comes with everything is pepper jack cheese...I asked for Chihuahua cheese and they said they don't offer that. I get it if they want to take a spin on it but at least offer something that taste good in combination. -I ordered the Torta de Milanesa and wasn't impressed with the breaded steak or the bread.. Great taco place in Glenview. Their tacos are varied and offer Mexican (cilantro and lime) and American (cheese) versions of all their tacos. The Mexican tacos taste very fresh, and their sides of rice and refried beans are on point. The prices are reasonable....not the cheapest but reasonable. I got the grilled steak, ground beef, and lengua tacos. All three were excellent. The offerings here aren't "authentic" (they offer paneer as an option for example) but they taste great! For some reason, the promo didn't work for my bf who has an Android phone.. and he was pretty bummed about that. The tacos were much bigger and had more filling than those served at LC and BH. The mahi mahi, chilango, and shrimp were all pretty tasty and dressed up with lettuce, onions and cilantro. Pretty decent tacos for this area. We liked the rice even though it wasn't authentic. It had peas, corn and carrots, which was reminiscent of Asian fried rice. On to the salsa bar. They had five different salsas (ranging from mild to hot) and two kinds of pickled veggies. My favorite was the avocado salsa. Right next to the salsa bar is their drink station where you can get a fountain cup for horchata or virgin piña colada. The store itself is a good size which is nice because you can usually find a place to sit no matter the time. They seem to be busy all day every day. You come in and place your order up at the counter and then they give you a buzzer so they can bring the food to your table. They give you chips and salsa and both are fantastic like everything else. I love the large salsa bar with so many options from mild to hot. Next to that is the soda machine and you help yourself to fountain drinks. So far I've had the elote, chicken fajitas, ground beef taco plate, chicken tostadas, and flan. Everything is tasty and has a lot of great flavor. The chicken is always tender not dry.
