Very good food; I'm glad to have a place like this along my evening commute. It's a somewhat spiffier option than a typical taqueria, but prices don't reflect the higher overhead. Most options are $2.49 or $2.69 and the tacos are stuffed full--double tortilla is appreciated. Mahi mahi: tasty; would be great to have a grilled option rather than fried Chicken: pretty good for chicken Chorizo: solid Al pastor and steak are outstanding; this will be my standard order from now on. The steak is slightly overdone but has a gorgeous grilled flavor. The al pastor is among the best around. Salsas: the complimentary version is pretty good, with a slight heat. The medium green version on the salsa bar is my favorite and pairs nicely with both chips and meat tacos. Guac: fresh and satisfying Mexican style tacos come with cilantro and grilled onions rather than chopped. Usually I like a grilled onion on almost anything, but on tacos I think that the raw onion complements the meats better. But this is a pretty minor complaint among the overall quality of the place. They have some interesting tacos here that can be pretty good and the service is decent. However, the last time I was here I got a pink drink that had gone bad. They need to manage the horchata and pink drink containers more and clean them often to keep them up to code. The pink drink I got was completely clumped together. It was gross. I'm someone who LOVES taco and Paneer so clearly this place will be my heaven!! Yes- they serve paneer taco, paneer enchiladas, paneer fajitas and paneer burrito!! Everything tastes great comes in big portions and they aren't priced badly. They have a yummy salsa bar where you can go fill up how much you want and bring it to your table. The service is kind off slow when you compare it to other mexican places but it's worth the wait- when your food comes to your table-you and your tummy will be happy!! Great taco joint. Staff super friendly. My wife and I were greeted by a friendly guy manning the register. He explained everything thoroughly. We had a mix of all different tacos and they were all delicious. Had the authentic taste and toppings on tacos. Salsa bar was awesome too I think they are one of the only places that have this around Niles. Avocado Mild was one of our favorites. My wife loved her horchata as well. We love this place!!! Tasty!! Clean!! Friendly!! N they sell beer!! Tried almost everything on the menu but favorite is the steak n chilango tacos n the mahi fish tacos. It would be 5 stars but the meats r a bit salty for me. If you get it American style with lettuce tomato n stuff it's less salty. The interior of the place is very well maintained, clean, and organized . Came here to grab late night munchies and was pleasantly surprised at how good the tacos were. I split 4 steak tacos and a side off of guacamole with chips. The steak was made fresh to order and served hot, the tacos were amazing. The guacamole tasted creamy and fresh. I've been craving for tacos for a couple of weeks now so when I saw on yelp that there's a new Mexican place not too far from where I drive my son to basketball games...I bribed my daughter to go with me and try TacoMadre. I know she'll say yes anyway because she is a big fan of the Chipotle steak burrito bowl. We got to the place at 8:30pm on a rainy Sunday night and TacoMadre has only been open for one week, according to one of the owners. The place was almost empty (that's why I took as much pictures as I could) but, it was well-lit, clean, and I like the bright colors of the furnitures, the wood finishing on the counter as well as the walls, and the fun paintings on the wall. They have a salsa bar that the customers can choose and help themselves from although there were no labels as to what kind or level of hotness each sauce is. My daughter and I just kept trying on different kinds to figure out which one would suit our tolerance for hotness. Customers have a choice for their taco orders between American style and Mexican style. American style taco comes with Monterey jack cheese, Lettuce & Tomatoes while Mexican style comes with Onions & Cilantro. Personally, I like the Mexican style better because the onions & cilantro don't take away the flavors of the meat too much. Here is a breakdown of what I've tried: BURRITO BOWL(STEAK)- since we had to choose our salsa from the salsa bar, the dish itself was very dry unless we add the salsa. My daughter kept adding salsa to the rice, beans, corn and steak mixture in order to add more flavor but then it gets to the point where everything gets soggy. There was no winning here...if we don't add salsa, there's no flavor in the dish...if we add salsa, then it's just like a soggy rice and stuff. I asked the burrito bowl expert if she'll get the same thing next time, she told me "nope". CHILANGO TACO(American Style)- this is my favorite. The combination of chopped steak, chorizo, bacon, jalapeno, onion, cheese & cilantro blended well all together and was very flavorful. MAHI MAHI TACO(Mexican Style)- my bad, I thought that it would be flakes of the mahi mahi, instead, the fish was lightly breaded and fried/baked. I do like the crunch of the breading and the taste of the fish in every bite of the cubed mahi mahi, but, I prefer fish tacos to have the flaky texture of fresh fish though. CARNITAS & LENGUA TACOS(both Mexican style)- both the carnitas meat and the lengua were very tender and cooked perfectly, but to be honest, there were no flavors in both. Overall, it was a pleasant experience but if I crave for authentic and delicious Mexican food, I'll probably go somewhere else and give TacoMadre some more time to hopefully improve on the flavors and getting the ingredients of each dish come together. read more

I came here with a friend of mine that I haven't seen in a while and I was expecting a pretty casual place from the looks of it. I did not expect to get A+ service. The staff was so attentive and sweet and the food is so tasty! Definitely recommend the guac with everything you get. We ate vegetarian mostly, and I was pretty happy about their veggie options. The burrito was TINY (see picture) and it was ordered with EXTRA MEAT! When I go to a Mexican restaurant I only order tongue tacos and torta, I have NEVER seen tongue meat been grilled after boiled. The meat became super tough to chew and too hard from the char. My kids couldn't eat that meat and were filling up on tortilla and chips. I'm disgusted! I have been to many Mexican restaurants all over the Chicagoland area and this is the grossest I've tried. We paid $30 for gross greasy over cooked tacos, torta and tinsie-winsie extra meat burrito. There were a couple of flaws with this place 1. Too many workers; there were four people behind the register not doing anything. 2. The complimentary salsa tasted like marinara sauce. 3. The guacamole had no salt or lime to give it flavor & the portion was very small for $4.99! Actually,all of the food here lacked flavor. I felt myself reaching for the salt throughout my meal. I didn't understand why I had to bus my table either afterwards considering all the employees standing around. Also, I tasted most of the salsa & none of them made an impression on me. This place is a hidden gem! It is a restaurant in a strip mall and at first glance it can seem like one of those places where you might see and then go "hm...maybe next time." That is what I did for the past 2 months and then finally was like, "I'm craving tacos, let's try it out." And I'm so glad I did! I usually do take out or delivery but I decided to go inside and check out the place before deciding to dine in. The interior is completely clean and it seems recently updated. I love that there are several booths in the middle of the restaurant as well as side tables in the front and back. I ordered 3 tacos (1 shrimp, 1 steak and 1 lengua) and you can choose between flour or corn tortilla as well as between American (lettuce, tomato, cheese) and Mexico (onion and cilantro) style toppings. The service was fast and friendly. While we were waiting for our food, the cook gave us complementary chips and salsa. The salsa that came with the chips was steaming and so so so so good! On top of this, they have a salsa bar with 6 different salsas to choose from. I sampled them all and oh boy, I thought even the medium levels were extremely spicy. This place will definitely be kept on my mind when I am craving tacos again and maybe I will try to place a carry out/delivery order. read more

This place was great! The first time I went with family, got the vegetarian tacos and they were very filling! The rice and beans are pretty bland but the salsa bar makes up for it! The second time I went I got the secrete menu paneer tacos, absolutely delicious! For dessert I tried the fried ice cream, it was also very good but a little over powered with dry oatmeal! I ordered the three taco platter which included rice and black beans (brown beans are also an option). I had steak, barbacoa and shrimp. They were all pretty good. I like the salsa bar options as well. The jalepeno and habanero were my favorites. The staff was nice and the place was clean. I tried the guacamole and it was fresh and on point. Seasoned perfectly. I also tried the fried ice cream and that was the icing on the cake. They had a bunch of taco specials that sounded pretty good. What I DIDNT LIKE however, was the noisy Sports Bar atmosphere in that place, due to several TV's blasting in my ears thru out my meal. Also, their taco content amount has significantly shrunk in portion recently. (Rip Off factor!!) NOT ANYMORE!! Taco Madre is a clean place with friendly enthusiastic crew members that consistently strive to PLEASE & ensure my dine in experience is memorable & worth repeating. TREMENDOUS care is factored into the FLAVORFUL food presentation and content. The self serve salsa bar is a great idea. Oh yeah, it's on little brochures that I have to look at really quickly at the counter. I got the 3 Tacos Plate of specialty tacos and they were amazing!! The mahi mahi is fried and very fresh tasting. The shrimp is also grilled with all the fixings. The only one that needs a little work is the Chilango. I have no idea what's the difference between this and a regular steak taco. But the restaurant has a cool vibe and a great salsa bar of all types. The best in my opinion is the mild avocado salsa. I now understand all the favorable reviews, this is a great spot. The complimentary chips with warm salsa was a great starter, I ate them all and some of my son's as well. There is also a complimentary salsa bar providing additional choices, however the warm salsa was my favorite, fantastic. The special Mayan Taco was really good, but the Mahi Mahi Taco was even better. Two wonderful tacos, great chips and salsa along with an ice cold Corona for eleven dollars and some change, what a bargain, I'm coming back. Had a taste of my son's Horchata which was very nice, he enjoyed it, however the Mexican Corn (elotes?) was not that special but still good.
