I normally wouldn't order shrimp tacos for takeout as they always taste better in the restaurant but I took a chance with taco mix because I heard good things and I've been happy almost every time. They are flavorful and have the right portion of shrimp in each taco. They are the only place that I trust ordering tacos from in east boston. The reason I give four star is I still have yet to eat in the restaurant to see if it is just as good and also I received the wrong order one out of the many times I ordered. Amazingly delicious foods if you love bursts of flavors. I always order my favorite dish from here: Shrimp on the grill. It never fails to please. The atmosphere is quaint. This isn't really a place to go for socializing with other patrons it seemed. I've never seen parties of more than 2 here. There is limited seating. I was looking to try a new ethnic place with Sara S. and thought this would be a good choice since we both had never been. The food here was more like 4 stars. I had a delicious steak dinner that was huge. The steak was thin and super tender, topped with onions and peppers, then a fresh salad and avocado with a plantain on the side. As if that wasn't enough, another plate of rice and beans were brought over to accompany everything. I throughly enjoyed the food and had leftovers for lunch. Sara's shrimp plate had huge shrimp that tasted great. The atmosphere was cute with exposed brick and a little bar. It's one of the better outfitted dining places in Maverick Square. A big turn off was being harassed by the drunk? male clientele as soon as we came in. It was funny at first, then after a while, it was like come on guys, leave us the f alone..which they did once me mentioned we had boyfriends. Service was friendly. The waitresses sure wear some reavealing stuff. Prices were inexpensive for large portions. Our bill for 2 big dinners was $25 without drinks. Venture into East Boston at your own risk- the food is great, but I hear East Boston has more crime than all the crime on the other side of the river combined. My dinner was GREAT...I'm not Columbian, so I can't speak to authenticity. But the menu was extensive to say the least, It was packed with locals- so it's gotta be good and I left full and very pleased with my experience. The stroll thru East Boston was worthy. I stayed at the Hyatt Harborside, so my food options were very limited. this was a diamond in the rough. This place was sort of unmemorable. I debated on whether to give it two or three stars but finally settled on two since three stars means I'd consider going back. Between the two of us, the boy and I ordered a steak, a cheese papusa and a chicken taco. The chicken taco was good but nothing impressive. I randomly stumbled upon a place in Chicago where I got a chicken taco that was made the same way and it was eons better. The papusa was pretty good, but then, I've never had papusa before so there was nothing to compare it to. The steak was well flavored, actually pretty good, with a fajita veggie mix on top that was pretty decent. As others have mentioned, the food was a bit on the bland side, with the exception of the steak. The dishes were humongous, and you definitely get your money's worth and then some. I'm glad we only ordered one main entree, as there was no way we could finish the two appetizers and entree we did have. Also, every time we had a request, the waitresses were totally confused. And service was super slow for the amount of people that were there and the amount of service staff they had. read more

What we loved? -the environment! It is a small bar/restaurant that has a nice Latin flair. -the servers are warm and friendly. They give good recommendations and are very honest about menu items. - Their chicharrones burrito is delicious..if you're a fan of pork belly!! Oh and you can't go wrong with their mango margarita! What could've been better? -the food. The burrito is the only thing I enjoyed-- the chicken wings were the frozen kind, their pupusas taste like a cheap rip off of La Hacienda's (which is right down the street), and the nachos don't have enough toppings at all. read more

The food is okay. As always, the chips have to be amazing or else ure doomed amigo. They never brought chips. After asking for chips three different times, they brought yesterdays chips. You know, stale and very cold. The chips are supposed to keep you entertained and excited about what is to come. If the chips dont get you excited, im pretty sure the MAS RICO dishes will be about the same quality. Had tacos and pupusas. They were ok but the waitress forgot an item. Whatever. Finally left about 40 mins into the evening. Oh, before i go, they did not have Lengua Tacos which was very triste. The michelada con tomate and salt rim was muy rica. A large meal for a meager price. And it was pretty tasty. AND I thoroughly enjoyed the Hispanic version of MTV playing over the juke box in the corner. Small place in East Boston, not bad food they accommodated us for 7 people easily for the tiny space. The food was delicious good tacos, the meat was something different but tasted really good. Had a burrito which was also good not a bad place for the area, which most places are dive bars at night time. Not the greatest burrito but very filling, every one else's dished looked delicious. Yeah - it's not really Mexican - I'd call it Central American - Honduran and Salvadorian. The seasonings aren't really strong - and the presentation is cafe-esque. Pupusa is tasty - salad is the same on every meal - shredded lettuce with a house vinaigrette dumped on it. The locals seem to respect it - it's typically full on a Friday/Saturday night - toddlers and screaming babies included. Service is not intentionally slow - but the poor girls are usually scrambling to handle all the customers - plus cultural rules hold - which means a slow tab. I'd recommend it for a decent lunch stop if you ever find yourself in Maverick square - or off to the airport (you can get into Logan via the Jeffereson St entrance)- or if you're a wandering Eastie - there's not much over here in the line of small sit-down restaurants - so this will have to do. read more

For those who dont know what exactly to order their menu have great pictures telling you eaxctly what your getting. In all honesty, I don't know what happened -- I don't even like fried pork rinds...BUT as I was reading through the menu, I couldn't look past the El Paisa (Columbian-style) burrito. The burrito is made with the usual getup -- rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, gauc/sour cream -- but the kicker is the fried pork rinds and a hard-boiled egg. I repeat, I don't like fried pork rinds, but apparently something magical comes over me when it's put in a burrito, and I.must.have.it. The pork rinds add a great crispy yet chewy texture to the burrito, and mixed in with everything else, it doesn't taste or feel greasy. Their burritos are HUGE, stuffed, and grilled to perfection. I'm docking a star because their take-out service sucks and you have to wait wayyy longer than what you're told. I had called in an order and was told to come by in 15 minutes. I came after 20 minutes, and had to wait another 30 minutes before I got my order. A guy actually got seated, served, and paid for his bill during the time I was waiting for my take-out. read more

I knew i had to walk into this place some day. I was craving some nachos! In general, it's a Pretty cute place. Not very big, super clean, gives you a nice "Hispanic" feeling. The food...Only thing I've ever ordered is the beef nacho plate. ($8.00 and some change) not bad. As a regular, I've had my good and bad days with taco mex. The service is really speedy on weekdays, but as you know, weekends may take a while. The first time, the vegetables on my nacho plate were chopped fresh, and smelled great! The cheese was freshly melted, and the nachos were very crunchy. Nothing like the first time..eh? You never know what to expect with their meals, sometimes they're good, and sometimes they're bad. I remember One time when the nachos were quite stale and the cheese was pretty stiff... tasted like it had been sitting in the back for a while..I was pretty disgusted but didn't complain. After all, I still came back.. How could I not living right down the street.. and all. I remember one waitress who was angry with me because I refused to tip her...(it's not my fault she gave such horrible service!) her exact words, "I working for tips!"
