This is one of the basement food stalls located in the Fareground Food Hall in Downtown. We were craving breakfast tacos, so here we found ourselves. There was no line & you order through a self-service kiosk. I got the birria & pork burnt ends tacos. Both were surprisingly delicious, not too soggy or dry! My date got the carne asada tacos, I didn't taste any. Food came out within 10-15 minutes. No comments other than I always feel bad not finishing the rest of the consomme tub Overall, having come from Atlanta - which arguably now is a "city of food halls" with new ones opening every couple of months, I believe Austin has more growing to do in this space. Fareground seemed kind of dead despite the fancy seating. It could also be more busy on weekdays when people are in offices for work, though. One stall neighboring Taco Pegaso actually closed (according to my date). I usually go to Yoga at the Faregrounds on Sunday and always pass by the Taco Pegaso outdoor taco stand where I see them preparing fresh breakfast tacos from scratch on the outdoor flattop. I have always wanted to stop and try one and so glad that I did. The price point for their tacos are a bit high, but you can watch the employees make the tacos right in front of you. You wait in line to place your order. They have a selection of breakfast taco options to choose from. I ordered the egg, bacon and cheese breakfast taco on a flour tortilla. You have an option to choose from corn or flour tortillas. The tacos are prepared to order and then they call your name when ready to pick up. They have a verde and red salsa. There is outdoor seating in the plaza where you can enjoy eating your tacos. They have a generous portion of ingredients in the taco and one was very filling. Hopefully this new selection of meatless masterpieces is here to stay, though, because I know I'd brave the traffic to hit this downtown spot again, early and often, which says a lot. For one, it's ACTUALLY crunchy, which is a sad rarity for this format. Abbot's chorizo plays a starring role for the protein, bringing in a meaty heft and piquant seasoning, you've got all the staples to back it up with beans, rice, queso, etc. If I'm being picky, I would have really loved some avocado in there, but now I know to order guacamole on the side for dipping next time. And there will be a next time. The corn ribs are fun to eat, well spiced and covered in sour cream to cool the heat, but I couldn't help but feeling like they were missing something. It's pretty fast. I was there in a large group so it made sense that it took a little. You order on the iPads and don't have to interact with the staff. I will say it was a little complicated to order on the iPads and there were a lot of options. There is not a ton of seating inside especially around lunch time. I got a quesadilla it was great. Mexican restaurant inside of the Fareground Food Hall. I didn't go here specifically for Taco Pegaso but rather to try a few different spots. I am a huge taco fan and really wanted to try their take on the al pastor taco. For $10 pre tax and tip, you wait about 10 minutes to get 2 al pastor tacos. Tiny containers of salsa are extra, because, why wouldn't they be?! There were only two people working and you could see they weren't ready for the pre-lunch "rush" yet they still had time to chat while the food was sitting at the prep station, getting cold. I literally watched my tacos get plated up hot, only to sit behind 5 other orders for about 7 minutes while they waited to get sprinkled with onion, cilantro, and pineapple. When I finally got them, they were nearly ice cold, the pork was dry and overcooked, and overall, the only good thing about them was the tiny pieces of fresh pineapple. These were probably some of the worst tacos I have ever had. I did not give them a 1 star review because I feel if they were hot, they may warrant 3 stars.
