Wonderful food and as fresh as Mexican gets. The tacos are super delicious as are the taquitos (or flautas). It's so wonderful that they have black beans as well as pinto beans. The salsas are pretty good and portions are large. Service is also great. I eat here at least once a week and I'm always satisfied with the customer service. The only reason they're not getting 5 stars from me is that I'm not 100% satisfied with their burritos. I now know why this place is called Taco Plus. It's because it's in the plus sizes for their tacos and other stuff, but the huge sized portions is all you get. Their food is lacking in taste, value and everything else. I had a pretty eventful day and was starving as my taco craving kicked in. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try since it had some good reviews and an overall 4 star rating. Besides I just wanted something quick and cheap. Sad to say but this was the first time Yelp has let me down. It was neither quick, cheap or tasty. The carne asada taco was a disgrace. It was huge but tasteless. The tacos from a taco truck are way better. I don't know if they forgot to marinate the meat but it tasted like plain grilled unseasoned meat. If I'm paying over $2 for a taco I expect it to be flavorful and tasty not just for it to be big and disappointing. To be fair I thought I would try other things this place had to offer. The cheese quesadilla was a greasy mess. Again huge but not good. I love cheese, but they packed the thing with so much cheese that it looked like it erupted with cheese oozing out of all the sides. It was so big for the plate that they had to stack the pieces on top of each other which made it soggy. The grease from all the cheese soaked through the tortilla. I couldn't eat another bite in fear that my blood pressure and cholesterol levels would sky rocket and I would have heart palpitations before I could try the next item. The Nachos were too much. I ordered them because I love cheese but this was just cheesy. They used shredded cheese instead of nacho cheese sauce which is okay if done correctly. Shredded cheese should be sprinkled on and not spackled on. I picked up one chip and five of its friends came attached to it. I moved onto the sides which I ended up putting them aside. The beans were okay but the rice was kind of crunchy and not fully cooked all the way through. I also got the corn thinking Mexican corn is really good and flavorful. My friends have gone on searches for what they call the Elote Man and his corn on the cob cart that comes with corn loaded with whatever you like...Parmesan cheese, mayo, tapatio etc. Although I didn't expect this corn to come with all of that, I did expect it to have some kind of seasoning. Like everything else it was tasteless. It tasted like they just popped open a can of corn and warmed it in some cloudy water. Sadly, about $20 later I ended up throwing most of it all away. That's a big no no for me because I am against wasting food to the point where I would re-season/re-cook bad food I've taken home so that I would be able to eat the leftovers. I was going to go to the pizza place next door, but there was no one in there while this place had a bunch of people eating inside. And this was at 9PM. The amount of business a place gets is usually a good indicator of how good they are, right? So Taco Plus it is. They had many menu choices. I ended up choosing their Fiesta Combo Plate which had a bit of everything: 1 taco, 1 taquito, 1 quesadilla, 2 side orders (rice, beans, salad, etc.), and a drink. All for $8. The big PLUS to Taco PLUS is that everything is fresh and never frozen... at least that's what they claim. It seems to make things taste better if you're told that. So I ate in and there was a constant stream of service even at 9-10PM. Overall, the taste was great. The amount of food was great and filled me up. The drink choices were awesome. I tried Orange Bang for the first time. And I never knew horchata can be dispensed like soda, haha. PLUS the service seemed to be excellent. The cashier was very nice and even asked people, who almost out of the door holding eat-in plates, if they wanted to-go styrofoam containers. Very attentive. It's unfortunate if you don't live within walking or biking distance, bc you will miss out. Parking is difficult. I lucked out bc I've lived in this neighborhood for over a decade, and I treated my friends to here when they helped me move in. Everyone who says the food is bland, you apparently missed the large salsa bar where you are given the opportunity to spice it up. It's a smart move on their part; too many Americans can't handle spice (I'm scot-Irish, but born and raised in LA). But they will gladly (and I know bc they do it for me) add anything to your burrito's or tacos. If they won't, you pissed off the servers somehow. Update: I wouldn't say I had a bad experience today, but they forgot to put salsa on my taco and I did not realize it until I got home. I called and complained. I didn't ask, or want, a refund or any other compensation, but they went ahead and comped my meal anyway. That's customer service when you're trying to give them money and they won't take it. Last night I ordered the vegetarian burrito. We brought it home and I started to eat it. It was all beans with one small piece of red pepper, one small piece of tomato and that's it. It is not the best or the cheapest Taco place in the area, but it's reasonable priced, generous portion and convenience. We usually parked at the Blockbuster parking lot (and we DO go to Blockbuster on the same trip!!!!) and walk across, otherwise, the parking could be a problem since there is less than 10 spots at their lot and shared with a 7-11 and a pizza place. Last time I ordered a Taco Plate, the two side orders were very generous and the meat fell off from my two tacos could actually make a third taco. read more

This place is just fine. It's about a 30 second walk from my apartment - too convenient! This part of West LA has plenty of taquerias - Pili's is on the other side of Bundy, El Super Taco, Benito's, etc. The biggest perk of this joint - no lard! Because I only eat kosher meat, all these other great "authentic" places are off limits to me. But not Taco Plus. I can have my Rice, Bean, Cheese burrito here and eat it too. The RBC burrito is just fine, though if you don't hold it they go way too heavy on the diced raw onions. They also include some pico di gallo which is fine but nothing to write home about. I've tried the nachos too, but was pretty underwhelmed by them. J usually gets the carne asada California burrito and likes that, but if you don't project the words "carne asada" you'll wind up with carnitas. The chips they throw in are fine - I've had better and I've had worse. They cook everything to order and it seems pretty fresh, and you can get your food fast too. The place is clean and good to sit at for a quick meal, but we usually just get our food to go. They take credit card, though the one time we used CC we got an alert from the bank later saying that our card had been compromised and they were mailing us a new one. Not sure if it had anything to do with Taco Plus, but we've been paying cash since. Redux: Plus: - affordable - clean - NO LARD! I love tacos. Who doesn't? But I also find myself almost exclusively on the west side, and we all know the best tacos don't like to venture west. Let's also go ahead and admit to ourselves that you can't count on just one place to have the best of all kinds of tacos, nor can a non-van/cart/trailer expect to sell good tacos with bad salsa offerings or gross chips and also expect me to return. (I'm looking at you El Super Taco on Pico! ew.) That said, having tried just about every taco place in West LA and Santa Monica, Taco Plus gets my vote for consistency, particularly in carnitas, pollo, and carne asada, and extra particularly for salsa and chips. Always fresh, always delicious, and they don't skimp or give you the side eye for indulging! Extra points for putting the meats up front behind glass so you can see what is looking good that day and what may be better next time. My BF and I needed a quick bite to eat before catching a flick at Century City AMC. Taco Plus was on the way, it had four stars on yelp, and we LOVE Mexican food..so we couldn't imagine it would disappoint. Disappointed can hardly describe how I felt after that meal. I ordered the enchilada platter (how can you mess up a cheese enchilada, rice and beans?), which was a complete disaster. It was INEDIBLE. The sauce tasted like grease and ketchup. I wish I was kidding. The boyfriend ordered the Burrito Gigante and ate most of it. He said it was alright, but wouldn't care to return. I would give this place one more star had the service been good, but it wasn't. Great family owned spot to grab a filling lunch which is fresh and delicious. It kinda reminds me of how Baja Fresh used to be when it was still family owned before the current corporation bought them out and ruined the food. They have like a million things on the menu so chances are you will find at least a couple things if you are a picky eater and if not, it will be hard for you to decide. Don't bother with any of the filler, go straight for the tacos. I really like the Al Pastor here. The tacos are a bit of an investment (~2.50), but they are pretty massive, so it evens out. While I still prefer the $1 taco truck variety, Taco Plus is always there and easy to find. The parking lot is super cramped and gets crowded at peak hours. Taco Plus. What a lame ass name. OK... get over it and go try it out. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. Hell, it doesn't look like much from the inside... looks like a reject from the interior design school of Baja Fresh designed it. OK... so enough of the aesthetics... the food is great. Taco salads are good... the meats are very nicely cooked. Everything is fresh and tastes healthy. Well, at least healthier than most Mexican joints. What's really good there is the albonigas. Beware tho... ONLY ON THURSDAYS. We went on Thursday... had it... was impressed... went back again on Sunday, and it sucked. What's up with that??? So we tried it again the following Thursday and it was good. What I'm figuring is that a different person makes it on each of those days... and I'm dying for a bowl right now... it's rainy and cold... good thing tomorrow is Thursday! UPDATE: 11/10/08 My wife, her friend and I visited on Saturday night... we ordered pick-up and was just ready for a nice meal and chill at home sorta' evening. This is why I moved to LA. Taco Plus is the epitome of fresh, well-prepared, authentic and cheap Mexican. I walked three miles from my place to get here because it was highly recommended, and it was worth every foot of that walk. The space is small, but clean... nothing to write home about. Looks like your standard, hole-in-the wall taco joint. The menu is extensive, but not so large that you start to suspect the quality of the food because of all the interchangeable parts (Barney's Beanery, anyone?). Service is reasonably quick and friendly enough. The food, though... The "Gigante" burrito was recommended, but I decided to go with a taco combo. For about $8, you get two tacos of your choice, two sides, chips and a drink. Even for a dude that eats *a lot* like I do, there's a lot of bang for your buck here. I got one chicken taco, which was excellent... each ingredient was wonderfully fresh (they have no freezers at the restaurant). Beans and rice were great for sides. Chips were fine, and the fresh salsa bar had a lot of choices. The two salsas (standard "hot" pico de gallo) I tried were just OK, but there may be better options. The real star of the meal was my al pastor taco. The pork was perfectly cooked... tender and perfectly spiced, not too greasy. Absolutely delicious. I know there are a lot of great taco places in LA, and this is one of the first I've tried. It's going to be hard to beat, though. Taco Plus has been on the corner adjacent to 7-11 for god knows how long. A good sign. Overwhelmed by the number of choices, I went with the most Filipino choice: pollo asado with Mexican rice---very much in the style of El Pollo Loco (which I often enjoy). For less than $10, I got half a chicken, two sides, and a medium beverage + tortillas and unlimited salsa bar. I wasn't expecting a lot in terms of flavor. If I'm lucky, it's at least as good as El Pollo Loco. But Shazam! Taco Plus's El Pollo Asado es mas sabroso quel Pollo Loco! Grilled flavor, as if flame-broiled in your backyard! The place is almost literally a hole in the wall. The dispensed beverages are inconveniently located, the single aisle too narrow for comfort... it took like 10 minutes to get my cooked-to-order order... Poquito Mas, it ain't. But my food was delicious! Totally unexpectedly, mouthwateringly, marinated yumminess which I am still thinking about. Pleasantly. My BFF gets the Burrito Gigante (which he adorably pronounces "Burrito Jee-Gahn-tay"). "It's the closest thing to a Mission Burrito (from the Bay Area) that you can get!" So there you go. Great taco and burrito combos for around 7 or 8 bucks plus tax, fresh salsas made daily, and the best thing is a little known secret: A soda fountain that serves up UNLIMITED all-you-can-drink horchata, orange bang, tamarindo and agua fresca A caveat: the side order of corn is very, very salty. I walked in the pouring rain to grab a few things at 7/11 and there was Taco Plus. A complete hole-in-the-wall that I had passed a hundred times and had never given it a 2nd thought. Well, I was hungry and this place was packed so how bad can it be - right?!? I have only ordered the chicken taquitos (over, and over, and over) since finding them years ago. And they have yummy homemade tortilla chips. Prepare yourself for some parking challenges as they share the 7/11 parking lot and only a few spaces are not strictly designated to 7/11 customers. Really friendly service, a complete menu , and somewhat healthy fare. I come here 3-4 times a week, and have thought of asking them to give me a meal plan! My only complaint is that quality will suffer when they are in the shit ( weeknights between 6 and 8 and weekend mornings) I have had everything on the menu and would suggest the pollo asado to first timers. They grill this before your very eyes. Other highlights are the shrimp burrito with cabbage and the freshly made chilaquiles. The Nachos are pretty fair, mostly because they tend to revolve around a single mass of cheese in the center of the plate. The torta bread is a little less than fresh. So I would give their food 4 stars but I think they are more deserving of only 3 stars due to how dirty the restaurant is on the inside. I understand that this is a hole in the wall/strip mall, quick bite to eat type place but it is on the verge of looking worst than a grungy taco truck on the inside. They should really consider wiping that place down throughout the day. It is disgusting. I don't like to touch anything when I am in there because it looks like it is NEVER cleaned. The worst area is back by the fountain machine where the trash can is located. Flies are constantly buzzing around and everything is stained with grime. Wowwww! I am so impressed with this place!! I got the burrito gigante with black beans, carnitas and al pastor. Burrito comes with fresh chips :) I tried the 2 meats before ordering the burrito and was blown away by both. Full of flavor, juicy, not too salty or fatty...just perfect. They have great prices too. The burrito gigante for $9 served me 2 meals. The staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. Definitely my new favorite Mexican spot!! Blows Chipotle and others out of the water! read more
