We used to go to this taqueria every few months or so. I decided to go in for lunch today because I was craving a crunchy type taco. Not finding a traditional shaped crunchy option on the menu I settled for the taquitos dorado. It was about 1:15 pm when I arrived. It wasn't very busy during the time I was there. Only a couple other tables had people eating. After I ordered at the counter I sat at a table and waited. It took a little longer to get my food than I thought given how they weren't very busy but I didn't complain. When my food was brought to me, immediately I was shocked how tiny the taquitos were. I've ordered this menu item at other taquerias so I knew what I usually end up with. Taco Riendo 3 apparently didn't get the memo. These were 4 TINY skinny taquitos filled with a minuscule amount of very dry chicken. Served on a styrofoam plate that didn't even fill half the area including the pile of lettuce, one small slice of a Roma tomato, a few pieces of avocado and a sprinkling of cheese and sour cream. I'm trying to figure out what my $6 actually bought me. I ate it because I was starving but I'll never go back to this taqueria again. There are just too many others that do it right for the same price or less. My son ordered 4 tacos and he was shocked how small his were as well. He also said the chorizo was extremely salty and didn't finish his. His 4 tacos were over $7 and that's the most I've ever seen anywhere in town without any sides included. I gave Taco Riendo 3 two stars because the service was friendly and the restaurant was pretty clean. But, the price, flavor and quality of food wasn't enough to get my future business unfortunately. Los Juanes, El Rancho, Antojitos Las Delicias, and Taco Rico all have amazing food and value for your dollar and I'll be giving these places my business from now on. read more

This is a small place, immediately beside a Citgo station, with fast food style ordering - go to the counter, order (menu is on the wall behind the register), get your drink and your number, and have a seat. The folks are nice here, though not especially energetic or focused - several tables were in need of cleaning, sweet young thing behind the counter was calmly eating her lunch between taking orders. We tried 3 different tacos - al pastor, carne asada, and carnitas - and Mexican style Chicken Enchiladas with rice & beans. Alice ordered - 1 al pastor, but ended up with 4 (like I said, a bit unfocused) - total cost with drinks was a bit over $27, bit steep for the food and experience this place offers. The food was out of the kitchen in about 10 minutes, delivered to the table along with bottles of green and red hot sauces - paper plates and bowls, plastic knife and forks. The tacos were good, not great - the carnitas were rather bland, the al pastor contained no pineapple, and the carne asada was the best of breed, even if a bit crunchy. They all came with a slice or two of radish, cilantro, and too much chopped onion. The chicken in the Mexican enchilada was very tasty, but the sauce was rather indifferent tasting, and the tortilla was impervious to the efforts of the plastic utensils. The rice was just average, and the beans were thin and cold, really cold. Wouldn't return, barely ordinary food, more than a little overpriced, especially the Chicken Enchilada plate, something over $10. Taco Riendo you have my heart! I've been here once before a few years back. I really don't remember it being anything earth shattering. Well, after being snowed in for two days, craving something other than comfort food, tacos was the remedy I needed! The place is small like any true taco shop should! The tacos are superb and quite authentic! I had two Pastor, two Carnitas, and a side of their rice & beans! The Pastor and Carnitas are just excellently seasoned and a nice quality pork! The tortillas are fresh and stuffed quite well with the meat of your choice. The rice is nice but perhaps could use some seasoning of some sorts, and the beans are just fantastic when mixed together with the rice! This place is amazing. When I first came, I was very hesitant since it is pretty much attached to a gas station. But wow, never judge a book by its cover. My favorite thing to get is the Carne Asada tacos, and they are ALWAYS excellent​. It is 4 Street Tacos, and you can add​ cheese and sour cream all for like $7/$8 total. A lot of my friends have tried other items on the menu, and I have never heard anyone complain.​ Also, they give a 10% student discount to all Wake Forest Student w/ a student ID. Taco Riendo #3 has been a lifesaver for a taqueria food addict like me. When I came to Winston-Salem to study at Wake Forest, I was eating Mexican food five times a week at home in California. I assumed that would end (probably to the benefit of my health). However, the discovery of this awesome hole in the wall gave me the tacos, burritos, and tortas that I so desperately need. I've graduated now, but I will always regard this hidden gem as my favorite place in Winston. I cannot count how many times I've been here and how many of my friends I've introduced to this place. The people are friendly. They even instituted a student discount solely for my friends and I (just show your student ID). The food is authentic all the way down to the pineapple in their al pastor. The food at Taco Riendo 3 is good, but it doesn't nearly live up to all of the hype. I have passed by this place just about every morning for the last two years and was always curious about it. I had stopped a couple of times, but been dissuaded from entering because the place was empty or nearly empty every time. I finally decided to venture in after reading through some Yelp Reviews. Taco Riendo 3 is attached to a Citgo off of Reynolda. Many people would be hesitant to eat at a gas station, but from my experience this does not automatically count a place out. Let me set the scene: As we walked in the establishment, we could hear people yelling in spanish back in the kitchen. There was no one in the front that even noticed us walk in and only two other patrons sitting at a table with their food. The small TV in the corner was blaring some news. Someone came out to take our order and she was friendly enough. Although it was clearly our first time there, not a lot was offered in the form of assistance. I ordered the Chicken Burrito and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tacos. Obviously we didn't venture out too far. We ordered water and watched as they turned on a kitchen sink to fill up our cups. As we were waiting on our food, the same person who had taken our order began to mop the floor right by us, which seemed odd since it was still about 2 hours until closing time. The odor of the chemicals were overwhelming and really took away from any atmosphere that had previously existed. We got our food very quickly and also let me add that it was very reasonably priced. My burrito was around $6 and they also offer a 10% student discount for Wake students. The presentation was lacking, but that could be expected. My burrito came out on a paper plate. It wasn't a humongous burrito but it was a pretty good size. The burrito itself was average. The chicken was kind of bland and there wasn't much else going on. I will say that the salsa that they provided to go on their food is very good. Both the green and red; I preferred the smokiness of the red, but they both had good flavor. The corn tortillas that the tacos were made with were delicious and you could tell that they were made in house. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Taco Riendo 3, but it is a solid mexican meal for cheap. The atmosphere is lacking and the staff are not welcoming. This is one of the rare times that Yelp has led me astray. The most redeeming qualities are the corn tortillas and the salsa. Other than that it is very forgettable. read more

The asada burrito is my go to. The beef is crispy but not burnt, which I like and the rice is tasty. For how much it costs compared to how big it is, I feel like it's a pretty good deal. I've been getting the asada burrito almost weekly for a couple months now and it is always consistently good. The staff can be a little cold but I ultimately don't really care about that. I'm just there to have a delicious burrito and support a local business. As long as they keep cranking out good food I'm gonna keep coming here regardless if they don't engage in superficial conversation. Eat here! Great lunch spot with a couple salsas on the table. You'll need plenty of napkins. The price is right. I had tacos al pastor (pork). I could eat 30, but stopped at 3. The horchatta is really nice. And if you've never had horchatta, think of a watered down milkshake with vanilla and cinnamon. It's sweet and filling. The staff was friendly. So out of all the restaurants I've been to over the years in NC, this is definitely the best. The taste is authentic Mexican. The prices are quite reasonable for the portion, but really it is the taste. I would still pay more just for how delicious and fresh every thing is. The Horchata is one of the best I ever had, perfect and refreshing while eating spicy food. One word of caution, they have a dish that translates into Devil Shrimp. Now let me tell you I have eaten spicy food for a decent amount of time and I am used to it. The level of spiciness on the Devil Shrimp is next level. I felt that burn for like 30 minutes after eating, no joke. And they give you a ton of shrimp too so each one is like a little fire bomb in your mouth. And there's no question that their meat is real. My personal favorites are the al pastor (seasoned pork) tacos and al pastor burrito. The tacos come in soft corn tortillas with raw onions, cilantro, radish, and a lemon slice. They also provide a delicious green and red salsa as condiments. I also love the al pastor burrito, which is seasoned pork with rice, beans, queso fresco, tomato, onion, avocado, lettuce and lemon wrapped in a flour tortilla. A standard order is four tacos...I had two carnitas (roasted pork) and two pollo (chicken). Both were excellent, the meats flavorful and moist. Ok- so you've decided to venture into a restaurant attached to a gas station. You're probably not expecting much, and perhaps this somehow makes the Mexican food seem more gritty/ authentic/ special?? But I'm a vegetarian and there's almost nothing here to eat. Yes, it's affordable and "authentic"- they barely speak english, and corn tortillas, etc, but if you're a vegetarian, go somewhere else. Also, the water tastes like chemicals. I don't know if it's just this part of town, but it was worse than the tap water I've had anywhere else in town, and I'm sure that their rice is made with the same water. Yikes! Good stuff, but my first visit didn't produce results worthy of all the hype. After many recommendations and dozens of times driving by, I finally took the plunge and ordered some food. An order of tacos, was good but somewhat lacking. The carne asada and al pastor were good and flavorful, but SINGLE tortillas? In my life, all the best taquerias use DOBLE. I always thought that a true street taco had two tortillas. Single tortillas notwithstanding, our tacos were lacking the usual cilantro & onions one would expect. Instead, a few slices of radishes represented the only garnish on these puppies. [Could this be a circumstance of getting a "to-go" order?] On the bright side, the red and green salsas were both good and had kick. The pollo burrito was decent, a little small, but also priced under $6 so we didn't complain. But certainly not a monster slab by any stretch. Finally, the quesadilla was pretty basic and boring. Serves me right for ordering a quesadilla in the first place. My bad. For all the raves I've heard about Riendo, it just didn't live up to the hype. Consistently inconsistent...that will sum up this restaurant. I work with a group of guys that get burritos every Friday...we even call it Fat Friday. The food is usually great...when you can get it. If your restaurant consistently runs out of tortillas then common sense says order or make more for the week. When people order a burrito don't give them a large burrito one week and then a small taquito the next week. If someone orders no onions...don't put onions on the order. Its simple business practices, order what you need and give the customer what they ask and pay for. Its like every other week the orders are screwed up, so one great week of good food, and then you can't get it right the next week. Consistently inconsistent. read more

The food is good, but the service is deplorable. I've had bad experiences at least two times. Last time they took a long time to have the food ready even thought the place was not very busy. This time, I put in a call in order only to get there and be told they did not have the items they needed to make the food. It's a shame because the is not bad, but I can't justify going back or giving it a high rating. I can't rate did that's not available. I'll be relying on other hot fast food places that are in town.
