Taco T is an authentic Mexican taqueria on Windy Hill Rd. in Smyrna. It's in a small, run-down-looking shack similar to the El Taco Veloz down the street. It doesn't have as big of a menu as Taco Veloz, but it's still a good place to go if you want inexpensive tacos. They're only $1 each. There are 9 different kinds: Barbacoa - slow-cooked beef Asada - grilled beef steak Bistec - also steak, different flavor Discada - mixed meats Buche - pork stomach Pollo - chicken Chorizo - sausage Tripa - tripe Lengua - tongue You can get most of these same meats in a burrito ($4.85) or torta ($4.85). A torta is a Mexican sandwich - very good. The menu also has a handful of breakfast burritos (with sausage and egg) and $5-7 combos that come with fountain drinks. Drink options include Coke products and Mexican drinks like horchata (sweet rice drink), jamaica (purple hibiscus drink), and mango juice. Desserts include pastel de tres leches ($3.99, a.k.a. tres leches cake - cake soaked in three kinds of milk) and flan ($2.50). Tacos are prepared in two different varieties: 1. Two soft flour tortilla shells -or- one crunchy corn tortilla shell 2. Onions and cilantro -or- lettuce, cheese, and sour cream I've tried both styles and easily prefer the soft shells + onions and cilantro. It's all a matter of personal preference, though. The soft shells + onions and cilantro is more authentic. The crunchy shells with shredded cheese, lettuce, and sour cream is more of an American style. I haven't had a bad taco here except for maybe the lengua (tongue). I almost always order lengua when I go to a taqueria, but the ones at Taco T have an unusually strange and somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. The rest of the meats are fine. If you want to be adventurous, try the discada and/or buche. They're both surprisingly tasty. Unlike other Cobb taqueria competitors (e.g. Taco Veloz, Tacos La Villa), Taco T does not have a salsa bar. It's too small. Inside, there are only two booths for 4, two tables for 4, and one table for 2 (total seating capacity = 10 people). In lieu of a salsa bar, each table has two bottles of salsa, one green and one red. Spicy. I've tried the flan and it's pretty good. It's pre-made and served in a plastic to-go container. It's super sweet and very syrupy. Drink-wise, both the horchata and jamaica are recommended. If you're looking for something on the sweeter and "creamier" side, order the horchata. Fruity, jamaica. Very friendly service. The restaurant does accept credit cards, though I'm not sure if there's a minimum. There aren't more than 1 or 2 cooks in the kitchen, so if you come during a peak time, then it might take a bit more time for your food to come out. Taco T also has outdoor seating and a convenient drive-thru too. They scored a 100 on their last restaurant inspection. read more

I was pleasantly surprised! This little place I pass all the time is great. I pulled in at 9:30pm and people were still inside eating. Good sign. I pulled through the drive through, they need better lighting, and ordered the#1, three tacos with sour cream lettuce and cheese. Except I got chicken tacos with soft shells. It also came with a can drink so I got sprite. The cashier asked what kind of sauce green or red. I said red and he mentioned it's spicy. I like spicy. I got home and devoured those tacos! Never going back to del taco or taco bell again. Where tf have I been? That spicy sauce was indeed spicy and on point. So good but I wouldn't pour it on, I dipped my tacos in it. I am really into this place! The burritos are so delicious and massive. I tried the hardshell taco as well as the softshell taco. I much prefer the hardshell taco. It was a little bit smaller than I thought but I kind of like that because it makes sense to order three or four of them. The service was quick, and we ordered through the drive-through. I tried this little spot months back but didnt forget how delicious it was. As i started to eat my food, everyone couldnt resist the awesome smell!! Lets just say, they ordered tacos because they couldn't help but stare at me eat. I ordered the hard shell tacos in ground beef and one in chicken along with a steak burrito. You can get soft shell as well.The red/green sauce is so good, the red is spicy. The tacos come with sour cream/lettuce/cheese. I have asked for guacamole but they dont seem to make it here. My experience at Taco T over the years has been very unpleasant despite its good food. This is because of a member of the staff who is very rude and unprofessional when it comes to dealing with customers. Each time, he has fought, even raising his voice to yell at us, over his salsa policy. If you do not eat at the store, you will be charged extra for salsa. If you eat in the store, you get unlimited salsa. I as paying customer expect the staff to be respectful of me and my family when I choose to eat here. It is not acceptable for the staff to tell me "not to come back" over $1.25 worth of salsas when I spend over $50.00. It is the most disrespectful thing I have ever seen. This place is on my list of things I miss about living in Atlanta. I discovered this little gem from an old friend and I was hooked from the start. $1 tacos with all the classic meats. They did mess up on my order once giving me the noncrunchy tacos. I didn't notice until I got all the way back home. The guy acted like he didn't accept my word that I didn't order it that way, spent 4-5 minutes trying to find my ticket when I went back. idk what he saw but he finally told the cook to remake them. It was fixed, I got over it and clearly I kept returning. But I definitely started checking my order before I left every time after that. I do not believe that I have had any other food which was overall superior to Taco T. Sure, I have eaten at many other steakhouses, burger places, etc, but everytime I went to Taco T, it was beyond incredible. I would normally go here after Church, and get around 6 tacos (ranging from discada, pollo, and pastor). They never failed to disappoint. After moving away, I have not been able to eat there sadly, yet Taco T still lies in my thoughts. I say all of this seriously. I am not completely sure of what it is about Taco T, but even compared to other Taco places, it still takes the top spot for myself. I was told about Taco T and decided I had to give it a try. I went and instantly fell in love because the prices were amazing. Being from California I am a firm believer you shouldn't pay more than $2 for a Taco. The food taste amazing the meat is seasoned to perfection the shells are made in house and the service is A1. There is not one item on this menu that isn't good. Whenever I have guest visiting I take them to this hidden gym, just to see their reaction and every time they are blown away by how authentic the food is. I never thought tacos and rice & beans could be so bad. I was legit hurt. I ordered 3 hard pork tacos, American style (w/ lettuce, cheese, and sour cream), and rice & beans. I had never had bad rice and beans until this day. Again, so disappointed. The tacos were extremely stale and greasy. I didn't even want to finish them but I did just cause I was hungry. The wait was a little long, parking lot was small, but they do have a drive-thru (prepare for a wait either way). I had a Bistek burrito a la mexicana (meaning it had fajita-like veggies in it) and my wife had a crunchy bistek taco American style and a soft barbacoa taco, also American style with rice and beans.
