I visited in early December 2023 with a date. We weren't planning to go here but it was an impromptu find. We both had just come from a local gym together and we were really hungry so this was the closest restaurant on our drive back. We spotted Cozumel in my date's car as we drove so we quickly pulled in. The restaurant is large and it wasn't very busy when we arrived so we were seated right away. I had their Fajita Rice Bowl Special which is chicken with rice and peppers. It tasted just okay but I could barely finish my meal. The chicken wasn't as tender and it didn't have much flavour in it. I could barely eat the rice because my whole plate was covered in salsa. The green peppers were fine but tasted slightly mushy. My date had the better meal even though I didn't try it but he offered me a piece. I think I just tasted one or two pieces of the vegetables in his tacos and they were good. He ordered the Veggie Tacos Special (3 pieces) which are vegetarian tacos on a soft shell with vegetables on them such as avocado and broccoli. The tacos had a little salsa in them and came with a side of sauce (I don't know what sauce). Each dish cost under $15, I think. My date paid so I can't remember the cost of the Fajita Rice Bowl Special and the Veggie Tacos Special. As for drinks, I just got a glass of water and my date got a beer. Overall, this is a casual Mexican restaurant with quick and friendly service. Good experience! Really good frozen lime marg and the pitcher is a very good deal. We also ordered the queso fundido with chorizo, which came with tortillas but also went great just with chips. I ordered the taquito trio with the cheese sauce on the side. Honestly these weren't bad but I would try something else next time. They were just a little bland. Very excited to try Cozumel for the first time because a new one is coming to my neighborhood in Cleveland Heights soon. Had no idea what to expect, and was completely blown away by the cleanliness, the speedy lunch service, the attentiveness of the wait staff despite how crowded it was, the delicious meal I had - chicken fajita quesadilla with beans. My nephew suggested the queso and I'm so glad we got it - silky, smooth, and delicious. I can't wait for the new Cozumel to come to the end of my block. Even during the middle of a pandemic, Cozumel can make you feel like you're on another island. I have been doing a lot of home cooking and indeed some Mexican dishes, but nothing I made could compare to those nostalgic flavors of one of your favorite authentic Mexican spots. They have two locations so be sure you call the right one - silly me placed an order with Independence and I arrived in Lakewood. Still, they were able to recreate my order in about 10 minutes and I called Independence very apologetically. Rookie mistake! Check your digits! As any normal person being deprived of tasty treats, I went a little nuts and ordered queso and guac, which typically I'd choose one or the other. I'm so happy I got them both, though my thighs might not be, tehehe. Anyways, they've got that creamy silky white queso that runs down the grooves of your chip like Niagara Falls, splashing all over your lips and probably down the front of your shirt, if you're anything like me. The guac was just chunky enough while still nice and smooth, powerful samples of jalapeno and onion with oh so fresh avocado. Hints of saltiness lingered after each crunchy bite! I'm feeling quite romantic about these dips, I must say. I ordered a couple enchiladas and a ground beef hard taco because I am obsessed with their melty gooey cheese and red sauce, plus their crumbly white cheese atop the taco. My boyfriend loves their Burrito El Diablo - it's so super spicy after a few bites - but that flavor is just POW. Right in the kisser! They pour a little queso on top of the burrito and serve with spicy pinto beans with crumbles of bacon. Naturally a soft and fluffy rice is served alongside. This thing is so good that night but sometimes even better heated up the following day. One time I took the chicken out of it and put it into an omelette... FIRE!!!
