Although parking could be a nuisance during peak times, it's a place I would still recommend for delicious authentic Mexican cuisines. They have recently added a speakeasy to their Lakewood location. A friend told me how great this place was and that I needed to try the Birtia tacos. Which I did and they were too greasy to eat. If you don't have a gallbladder you absolutely shouldn't eat here because you will get sick from the grease. Service was good but for three tacos, queso, a soda, and a margarita with tip it was $69. We'd driven past several times and saw the adorable garden patio area, and we finally got around to visiting! We went for lunch while it was snowing, so we sat inside by a heater, but we totally felt like we'd been transported to a warmer place by the fun decor and music. We tried the birria tacos with the consomme to dip (which is extra, but absolutely required), the chicken tinga, and the carne asada. Everything was so delicious, and the tacos were well loaded with meat and very filling. We also had the rice and beans, which had a lovely smokiness and were really good too. Fair warning: the prices are a bit high. We had two tacos each and a couple of sides and our bill was about $40 after tax and tip. But we definitely felt like it was worth it, with the fun vibe and the delicious food! AMAZING chicken birria tacos! The best I've found in Cleveland. The tacos were $6 apiece and were large with a generous amount of meat. The consume (sold separately as a $4 side) was also delicious. My first time there and likely the last. We walked into the front door which is a narrow opening. The seating was all outside so I went directly to a seat. Next thing I know a tall (over 6') mustache & dark hair came over and said slow down. Slow down I said? Yes you walked right past me & took a seat. Yes I did but there is no signage asking you to wait for host. The guy goes I was bent over near the door. I'm sorry but you not standing in an upright position I didn't even see you. Hola tacos has a really cute seating area right off the bat. You can sit out by all the picnic tables, but they also have another area basically under a tent that's decorated very cutely and is really nice for pictures! The server was really nice and attentive, always making sure we had what we needed, and offering things she thought we would want. And the food itself, although a bit more expensive than I thought was worth, was very good! I've seen a lot of people raving about the quesabirria so we got that and it met expectations. But I think the star of the show was the street corn, I would definitely go back for it. And it gets even better if you add queso with it. We also got the Mexican ramen which was not my favorite. First time, there was a heavy rainstorm that we drove through to get there and they told us they were closed, at 7:00pm even though people were there eating and drinking. I had no idea Hola Tacos existed because I never drive on Madison Ave. but yes, they opened in December 2019. They are a small taco joint with only outside seating so it is a perfect place to visit during warm weather months. I had just left Revival (skin store) on Madison Ave. and I was starving so I decided to order dinner. ORDERING PROCESS -- I visited in person and ordered a burrito to-go. I wore a mask and all staff were wearing masks too, to adhere with COVID-19 protocols. I waited for about 20 to 25 minutes to receive my order. They failed to call my order out so it was sitting there ready to be picked up but I didn't know it. Only after I went up to inquire, did someone say that indeed my order was ready. BURRITO - I ordered the Chile Colorado Burrito (currently $12.50) on a busy summer evening in August 2020. I believe the price was $10.25 when I ordered so they may have increased the price. The burrito has chicken inside and I got mine without any beans. The description of this dish on their menu is "Flour tortilla stuffed with Mexican rice, refried beans and your choice of protein and covered in Chile marinade, radish, cilantro and queso fresco" I really loved that this burrito had radish and cilantro on top. It gave it an extra boost of flavour and it is different than a regular burrito. The chicken inside the burrito was very well seasoned too. It is a HUGE burrito and I can't remember if I finished it all in one setting. I recommend this burrito if you are a meat lover. Besides burritos, they have tacos and rice bowls on their menu, amongst other items. I will definitely visit again to order a birria taco which everyone has been raving about. It is basically a slow-braised beef taco dipped in a beef sauce. It looks like a mini quesadilla. It can also be made with goat meat. It looks super delicious. Amazing taco joint in Lakewood that provides fresh ingredients & makes you feel like you are right at home! Order a couple tacos with friends and we were wowed how amazing the tacos were. So gave them a 4 bc some items delicious and some not that good. Taco shells are too thick and dry for us. Bean taco pretty unexceptional. Guacamole and elite apps good but come with taco shells. Ramen beef soup is delicious but almost impossible to eat with plastic utensils btwn trying to cut noodles with plastic knife and eat it with small plastic spoon. Recommend ordering to go and putting in a real bowl at home. The quesabirria also delicious and huge - 2 of us could easily shared. Need to ask for small bowl of sauce. Really a takeout place. I ate there for the first time tonight. This used to be the location of the BBQ and ice cream stand called The Gorilla a few years ago, and I miss them. But Hola Tacos is legit. I like the atmosphere they have created with their walk up patio and bar. It's just the right sort of vibe for the neighborhood. The tacos are not cheap at $5.50 each. I ordered two, a Birria and a Carne Asada. The Birria was excellent, but the Carne Asada was a bit dry, bland, and wasn't served hot, so a little disappointing. I've been visiting Hola since mid 2021, and I loved this place in the beginning but every visit I feel like the place loses its aura, respectfully. Hola is a very small spot, with that being said, the tables are tiny, you barely have any room for your meal so have that in mind when you're planning to visit. I recommend coming here in the summer when they have the patio open, it is more spacious, and less likely to give anyone with claustrophobia a panic attack. The music playing throughout the restaurant when I visited was early 2010's pop hits, definitely not what I want to listen to as I'm about to dig into some Mexican cuisine, that's my opinion. The quesabirria was my favorite entree, and became my usual order, but something about it this time really didn't do it for me. First off, less than a year ago I paid $16 for the quesabirria, and it was absolutely tremendous per usual, at the time. Now it's $22, and they're using cheaper cheese and it's so bland, and dry almost. Honestly I am disappointed in the dip that Hola has taken, I really hope in the future it regains its appeal. The Quesabirria at Hola is the best in CLE! A huge shoutout to Hola for offering easy online ordering and safe curbside pickup for those of us not comfortable dining out. Because of this, it makes it easier than ever to enjoy that delicious Quesabirria. But really, the Quesabirria here is mouthwatering. It's the perfect combination of sweet and salty with ooey gooey cheese and a golden brown perfection. It's a great portion for the price and soooo satisfying. If you're "dining in," it's much like any other restaurant, a hostess will seat you and provide you with a menu. You order at your table. Nothing complicated. I ordered the Quesabirria. Man did that thing pack some flavor. If you're not familiar with it (which I was not) birria is a traditional Mexican stew. The beef is so tender! Anyway, they take this birria beef and make a sort of quesadilla with it along with some chihuahua cheese, and then sear it in beef broth, toss on some onions and cilantro and there you have it. You just have to try it to believe it. It's like nothing you've ever had before. I couldn't finish the whole order. I mean, I could have, but it's a lot. Before the Quesabirria, I also tried their plain queso dip with tostadas. Really good. Creamy queso, crisp tostadas; there was even enough queso left to dip some of my Quesabirria in. I really liked Hola Tacos. It was a bit on the slow side though. Not terrible, but something to be mindful of. It probably took a good 15-20 minutes before I got my main order. I had only recently heard of Birria tacos with the beef consommé... and rumor was Hola had the best ones. Truth is I have nothing to compare these to, but I can tell you they were delicious. My husband is not a fan of other popular taco places. But he was very pleased with his Colorado burrito. It was a good siZe and delicious. The birria Taco was good, but you really needed the consume to make it flavorful. Queso was good (make sure to mix it) and the guac was the best part for me. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5, was obviously because they have "cerveza" plastered everywhere but don't actually serve alcohol, and the bathroom situation is a little off. There is a house located next to the lot that Hola is in, a worker must walk you to the house (yes regular house) next door, unlock the house, then you go upstairs in this house and use the restroom. It's a bit creepy, not saying Lakewood is THAT dangerous, but being alone in a house you're not familiar with.. weird situation. Hope they end up building their own bathrooms in lot! Will be back.
