This location is absolutely horrible for the 2nd time in a row. The redhead bartender is always vanishing to the back, always stressed out and although last time she apologized for being "stressed out", today's experience was even worse. Three simple tacos came out 15 minutes later and were incorrect. I was told they can either remake it or add the missing sides on top. How classy. I told them I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes, it's already 10:15pm. And the manager came out (me thinking he'll do something), instead he charged me for my drink after I told him about his bartender from the last two times. He said "I'll talk to her," and I said I don't care. She's apparently still there for one reason or another. When they say quality and service has gone way down, this location takes the cake. I have debated this review since our visit and have re-written it a number of times. I love small business and I want to see small business succeed. I write this only so that others don't have to go through the same experience, and so that the business can improve. Our original dinner plans fell through, so I quickly chose Barrio based on the reviews I had seen and the fun, colorful pictures. It seemed like a safe choice. The service was excellent. We were seated quickly, and our server was 10/10 - so observant, she always made sure that we had everything we needed. This was the kind of service I'd expect from an upscale restaurant. I have zero complaints about the service. Each person in our group opted to try different things on the menu - a burrito bowl off the menu, tacos off the menu, and build-your-own tacos. The burrito bowl seemed like it was the only hit of the night. We started with chips and queso - the queso was incredibly bland and the consistency was thin and so runny - not sure how this could be called queso. Please add some veggies, some spice, literally anything at this point! The tacos were by far the biggest disappointment - both the menu options and the build-your-own. These were by far the worst I've ever eaten. I'm not convinced that whoever made these has ever eaten a taco before. I would like to suggest that in the future you gently heat or steam the corn tortillas before making the tacos so that they do not crack. One of my 3 tacos had 4 (!!) corn tortillas on it. I'm guessing that the tortilla started cracking while the taco was being made, so the solution was to just grab two more corn tortillas. I know this is not an "authentic taco" joint, but these were hardly edible. The steak was cooked well, but there was barely any in there. The tofu was so overcooked it was hard to eat. The pork and chicken were quite bland - please add more seasoning to your food! Always enjoy coming to this Barrio location. I found a spot at the bar during happy hour. Tried one of their specialty cocktails for Valentines Day. It was basically a Paloma with rose water. Tasted fine, although I did ask for some additional grapefruit soda. I got the tuscan guac, which is one of my fave guacamoles around. Love the balsamic and feta in it. I also got their Bourbon Street taco special as a bowl. It was surprisingly really good. It had grits, chicken andouille sausage, shrimp, some type of bbq sauce and their smoked cheddar cheese. the grits were really good, thick and cheesy. The shrimp wasn't seasoned at all but it didn't make much of a difference. I also got the vegano taco which has portobello mushrooms and was pretty tasty. Come for their happy hour deals until 6 pm daily: $5 margs, 1/2 off whiskey and tequila shots, and $1 off tacos. Most days, you really can't go wrong with Barrio. We had a great first experience at Barrio. We got seated right away on a busy Saturday by a giant tv to watch college basketball...my husband thanks you! We were there as a party of five and ordered several different drinks and the two appetizer of traditional gauc, the queso blanco, and the corn salsa. Did you know there is new tacos on the El Jefe Selecciones (premade) menu? I tried them all and in comparison to the prior premade menu offered for more than 5 years, this update has a lot of things going for it that makes it worth checking out. Below are my ratings for the new menu out of 10. I set the current monthly special (Grilled Cheese Taco), the La Tierra and the Jefe Loco to 8/10. I would suggest these are the 'Barrio's Recognized Baseline' product offerings at this point. CHICKEN BACON RANCH | 6/10 - Nothing special about this one. It just has a bland, ordinary/expected flavor that your teens would love but nothing to run home about. Would choose El Jefe Loco over this taco any day, especially since both contain pork. If I could suggest an upgrade, I would switch the Bombshell (bacon) to a Goddess shell (guacamole) and offer a Chicken Avocado taco instead. FREAKIN' VEGAN I 7.5/10 - I went vegan for a year in college and would have LOVED this taco back then. Really good flavor and ingredient selection, definitely recommend if you're eating a vegan diet or otherwise! CRUNCHY CHIPOTLE CHICKEN | 9/10 -This one was really tasty and would order again and recommend to anyone! The chicken in chipotle enchilada sauce really delivers a tasty texture and that base complements the rest of the ingredients. THE CODFATHER | 8/10 - Really glad to see a fish taco this good offered as a premade option. Very tasty! Arguably, this seafood taco is preferred over the shrimp premade taco now phased out. I also learned the monthly fish offering is now phased out (thanks Tariffs lol) and Barrio is standardizing on Blackened Cod moving forward. SMASHBURGER | 9.5/10 - I am so glad this is now being served year round as this is my favorite monthly special Barrio has ever offered. It really is simple yet unique and very delicious. Don't need to say much more because this is literally a burger folded into a taco shell, but oh is it good! FRENCH DIP | 3/10 - Last and least, unfortunately. Quite disappointed with this taco as it's just a mess. Don't get me wrong, the meat and the horsey sauce is quite tasty, but the general concept to dip a soft flour shell taco into au jus doesn't deliver anything besides disappointment. Maybe adding crispy onions or just making this into a standard taco with lettuce and tomato could save it, but I would not recommend this one. Last night, a few friends and I went out to celebrate a friend's birthday. After being seated, we received our first impression of our waitress, Avielle. She seemed very cold, irritated, and bothered by the fact that she had to serve our table. After she left to gather our drinks, we were all puzzled but figured maybe we were reading the interaction wrong. However, the behavior continued throughout the entire time she was serving us. Each of us ordered food at different times. By the time the fourth person received her food -- and hadn't even taken her first bite -- Avielle asked if she could close us out. At that point, we were waiting for a fifth person to arrive. We initially thought she might be closing out for the evening, but Avielle continued to serve new tables, which made her request seem odd. Once she brought us the bill, we handed her a gift card with $25 on it and a $100 bill. She returned and loudly stated twice that there was $9 left over, as if the expectation was that this amount would be her tip. We said okay, and she walked away very aggressively. Again, we were puzzled by the behavior. We eventually finished our food and drinks, celebrated our friend with cake, and sat chatting for a while. The waitress came back saying she was going to clean up the table a bit but only removed two glasses. She did not once offer more water or ask if we needed anything after the bill was closed. When our fifth person arrived, we had to ask other staff members for assistance. Avielle finally came back to take the fifth person's order and had a completely different demeanor -- much more pleasant. Overall, the experience was very odd and uncomfortable. Personally, I don't believe the service deserved a 20% tip, but she still received one. read more

Barrio has good tacos that I would not call authentic, but were fun and tasted great. I know that they regularly get mentioned as a Best Of restaurant. The food and ambience are great, but if you're looking for authentic, you might be happier elsewhere. That being said, the food was fresh and pretty speedy, even on a busy Saturday. It's fun to build your own taco - I always lean towards fewer ingredients so it isn't overwhelming, but go to town. The chicken and shrimp were both really good, and I like the Green Goddess shell combo, that has a soft taco around a hard shell with guacamole in between. My margarita was fantastic - went down really easy, so user beware! It was not cloyingly sweet, so the mix was really great. The art work is fun, and our server was so nice. Since it was our first visit, she really took her time to go through the entire menu, how to create and order your taco, and the monthly specials. We felt bad that we missed a few of the highlights since it was pretty loud, but she really did a great job explaining. I walk past often with my dog, and when the weather is nice, they have the front garage doors rolled up and Happy Hour looks awesome. Horrible! Their red salsa was loaded with vinegar, almost zero ciliantro or garlic and onion but loaded with salt. It's like they take canned tomatoes, puree them, add vinegar as a preservative and minimal spices if at all. It was literally the worse salsa I have ever had. The tacos were cold and loaded again with salt. I looked into the kitchen to see what was going on. Chips on the floor everywhere....and a tray of the red salsa just sitting there under a shelf. not being kept cold or freshly made. Love going to barrio but this was my first time at the Lakewood location. I liked the layout of the bar with outdoor seating as a plus. The queso is tasty and when you try their salsa your tastebuds will sing! We sat down at the bar and had two guys take care of us very well! Food came out quickly for both apps and entrees. We did BYO tacos but they had some brunch and Jefe selections available which are premade tacos so you don't have to try and design them! Honestly, a hit or miss. Sometimes I get fast service with fresh food super quick. Other times I get ignored, one basket of chips and no water refill. I wish I was kidding when I say that one time we only saw our waiter when bringing us drinks, he never came to check on us or refill our drinks. Arrived about 5:45 on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant was loud, and front patio was full. The Barrios are popular for their tacos, bowls and drinks, and it's reasonably priced. We even saw the food truck. It could have been going to Lakewood's Food Truck Park. We headed to the back covered patio and it was open and super nice. The area was large and colorful. Our server, Andrea, was friendly, knew the menu, and told us how to order off the pads of paper. This was our first time here!! Chips and salsa arrived, and tasted great. The food came out after a short wait. All was tasty. I had the Al Pastor Bowl with pulled pork, cauliflower rice, beans, cilantro and pineapple salsa. I asked for the habanero sauce on the side, and it was spicy. I was the driver so I ordered a virgin mango margarita, and it was yum. The others liked their drinks, too. I'll start this off by saying that I'm a sucker for tacos... but this is a place that lives up to the hype. There's a reason that there's a 45 minute wait on a Wednesday and people are still putting their names in. You build your own tacos which start at $3. Fill out the form at your table and that's what goes to the kitchen. You can choose from a corn/crunchy or flour/ soft shell or i you want to add a special tortilla (I recommend stoner) it's an up charge of $1. Most of the protein is included, but you can also upgrade to Coca Cola marinated steak with an up charge of $1. The quality of ingredients you get for $3-5 can't be beat. They seat you with chips and standard salsa. Guacamole, queso, and specialty salsa is extra. Parking is a bit tricky in the area. There are meters, but based on the amount of people frequenting, you may need to walk a block or two. They have a good selection of margaritas and offer happy hour specials through the week. Don't waste your time. Barrio used to be my family and my favorite restaurant, but over the years, it's really gone downhill. I've had countless bad experiences here as of late.
