I wanted to try taco deli as I have seen it passing by (huge mistake) tacos were flavorless and definitely not edible. The service was great but the food was terrible I had order the barbacoa and my hubby got the sirloin steak. My taco was falling apart the corn tortillas weren't holding up. The horchata was actually really great and so was the elote but the rice had no seasoning whatsoever my own dog wouldn't even eat it. I love this place. I didn't realize this is considered a fast food place in Texas, and that there are so many locations throughout Austin. We stumbled upon here on our first full day. I really liked it! It was very flavorful, light, and at a comfortable price point. I ordered the taco with beans and bacon - that was quite savory. I find myself thinking about these tacos a lot now that I'm back in California because it was such a great meal. I was surprised to find that I got full off of two or three tacos, the other taco that I got had avocado, bell peppers, onions, and eggs. That one was my favorite. Tacodeli is solid. I would have to say that the food is not quite up there with Torchy's based on taste and originality, but I will admit it's still really good. The people that work at the different locations I've visited are so much cooler, nicer, and more willing to help compared to Torchy's. Too many hipsters in one place isn't a fun time. Called them again after 2 days and apparently they hadn't done anything to cancel the order. Waited for another two days before I called back. This time they said they had started issuing a refund but the process could take up to 3 weeks :) I called again today and the assistant manager told me my order was never refunded. Well I've been eating there (and occasionally other taco places as I'm drug to them by "friends" or coworkers) for many years (I can see my history here shows I have a Tacodeli review from 2011 ... 14 years ago) and I can say that Tacodeli uses fresh ingredients and provides a wide selection of delicious tacos that are each carefully considered. I tell out of town visitors what I often eat and then say "but you can't go wrong -- all their tacos are great." I have had MULTIPLE vendors that I have brought there from out of town say that they questioned the idea of a taco place for lunch (yeah they were from out of state) and then after trying it made a point to tell me how great the food was. My hubby just picked up lunch to go , I ordered a tacodeli bowl with chicken. So so disappointed. The chicken was so dry and seemed like day old cooked. The bowl has rice black beans salad and guac. The guac was the freshest thing about this order. The bowl looked like the rice beans cheese had been sitting for a good while, then once order came in added salad chicken and guac. Came here for breakfast and it was ok!! I got the build your own taco with egg, chicken, and pico de gallo on one taco and chorizo, spinach, and avocado on the other taco. My first tack was pretty good but I didn't really like the second one. The chorizo was not very flavorful and was pretty dry which is weird bc chorizo is never usually like that! Tacodeli's tacos hit the spot after a long, busy day. The birria taco running for a limited time is the best birria taco I've tasted. I'm excited to try this taco again! The tacos contain the perfect level of spice and flavor. I'm never disappointed when I try the variety of tacos available. I've also tried the guacamole and chips, but the guacamole is always super spicy, which throws me off each time. I'm not used to having guacamole with that level of spice, but if you love spicy guacamole, you will love the guacamole at Tacodeli. Overall, if I had to recommend just one taco at Tacodeli, I would recommend you try the birria taco before the special ends. Hopefully, they decide to keep that one on the menu. I stopped by on a weekday morning around 8:30am and ordered a Jess's favorite with chorizo to go. Less than 5 minutes later, I was on my way with taco (and salsas) in hand. I wasn't super hungry so one was enough for me, especially when paired with an apple w/ peanut butter, but if you're looking for a bigger meal I would definitely go with 2. Taco Deli is my true Austin love since I moved here about 8 years ago. I visit her for post-workout tacos at least once a month and it never disappoints! The ingredients are fresh, tasty, and always consistent! My favorites are Migas, Heather, and Jess Special!! Their salsas are also to die for, and Dona is my personal favorite ( it is VERY spicy!). I also like that they support local businesses and have Kombucha from Buddha's Brew (a local business). They have breakfast tacos all day on weekends, only that they are open till 3 pm everyday. Note that they are usually very busy on the weekends and there may be a long line to order, but completely worth it!! The prices for the tacos are decent and a lunch with 2 tacos and a drink will average about $13 which os really not that bad in Austin! We once got food catered from them for a birthday party and all of the dishes were very fresh and tasty. The guests absolutely loved the food!
