Looking for a quick bite? This spot is perfect! The unique tacos, guac, and spicy margarita make a fun twist. Good for lunch or spot with a friend after shopping.

Amazing food and a great experience. Kennedy, who worked at the counter she be named employee of the year, she was friendly, genuinely apologized when my food was taking a little longer and kept checking in with me to make sure I was happy. Her attitude and professionalism made the amazing food and even better experience!

Love me some Velvet Tacos...enjoy hanging out with friends...having velvet tacos with a friend is nirvana! We ordered three tacos (chicken and waffle, rotisserie and salmon), guacamole and chips. Their tacos are fresh, layered with different textured and unique. Our server was new but very nice. Initially she appeared a bit nervous because she mellowed. Another greater experience at Velvet taco...

Velvet Taco makes very unique "tacos" - aka, any type of food combination in a taco shape to tickle your tastebuds. They also do plays on bowls and nachos, like the "red curry" queso. Their tacos are humongous and $4.95 - $7 apiece. They are huge - 2 tacos will fill you up and 3 tacos will if you are a big eater. I loved the salmon and paneer taco. The chicken and waffles taco looked amazing and creative too. It was super crowded at lunchtime, we sat outside on the patio.

We came to this Velvet Taco location for the first time, and it was a pretty enjoyable experience overall. The last time I had Velvet Taco was in Houston, and I remember it being very delicious and quite memorable, so I was excited to try this spot and see how it compared. Since I'm vegetarian, we ordered all three vegetarian taco options to sample a bit of everything. The presentation of the tacos was really nice -- colorful, well put together, and definitely Instagram-worthy. You can tell they put effort into how the food looks before it hits the table. Taste-wise, everything was good and fresh, and we enjoyed trying the different combinations and textures. That said, we felt like some of the tacos were missing a little something in the seasoning department -- especially that extra depth of flavor or umami that really makes a dish pop. It could just be the style here, and I'm sure some people prefer it this way, but personally I would've loved a bit more boldness or richness in the flavors. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, making it a nice place to hang out, eat, and take your time. Service was friendly, and we had a chill, pleasant time overall. Even though it didn't quite reach the level I remembered from Houston, it was still a good experience and definitely worth a visit, especially if you like creative taco combinations. We'd come back to try other items and give it another shot. Cheers

I remember craving for velvet tacos in my college days, so I went and got some tacos for myself! It just wasn't the same, everything was salty and the sauces were too much on the tacos overkilling the whole flavor. I really wanted to taste the taco satisfaction at 12am in the morning, but it just didn't hit the same. Maybe I just got too old

Nice place to get lunch, quick and easy grab and go option. 2 tacos with a drink for $10 can't beat that. Also they were soooo spicy for the salmon gf tacos but sooo good. Would return, want to try different tacos. Service was as expected for a quick lunch.

I went there at lunch today and it was quick. You basically have the menus all over the place I order at the cashier and pick up your drink and then they call your name and go pick it up at the counter. The food is good. It wasn't expensive as everybody says it's reasonably priced . This place is always popular in the domain and busy, but never too long of a wait

Used to be a 5 star experience when I discovered them years ago in Dallas before arriving to Austin. Now - well - it's about a 2-star deal now. Just didn't measure up to expectations and much less than where they used to be. Noticeable changes I see in reduced portions. My paneer taco was dominated by the tortilla. The prized paneer was the size of a small mozz stick or an extra large French fry. It was drowned in sauce which overshadows the size, but this was a letdown from what I recall used to be a robust flavorful taco when I first tried it years ago. I would have been happier with one more paneer stick, and they would still be profitable if they did that. They could likely be more profitable because I (and I am sure others) would buy more of them. The Korean Rice - well it was ok. It lacked that Korean punch and flavor I was expecting. It had the most ingredients but it was all rice. The Tikka is their go to and I remember it being a more robust piece of chicken, but this tender was smaller and drowning in sauce like the others. Flavor was good but not an explosion like I recall it being. $20 for 3 tacos that all did not measure up to expectations - quality and portion-wise. It's to be expected in today's world - a common theme. It also happens when you expand operations. I figured Velvet Taco would be immune to that but I may be wrong. With all the taco competition around, the underwhelming experience doesn't make me want to come back asap even if they have unique offerings. I may give them another chance down the road, so we shall wait and see.

4.5 My husband and I decided to go to Velvet Taco at the Domain while in the area. We parked at a nearby parking lot at the Domain and walked to the restaurant. We walked in and checked out the menu. We were greeted by a friendly woman working at the register. She took our order, and my name, we paid and then found a place to sit. The restaurant is a good size and has seating inside and outside. The bathroom area has a large sink outside of the toilet area to wash your hands. After a while I heard my name called out on the speaker. Because I had several items they called my name out several times. My husband and I ordered several items to share. We started with the Elote Guac and Chips which comes with guacamole, corn, crema and queso. This was really good. The blue corn chips were large and crispy. The guacamole was fresh and the corn was sweet. It was a really good combination of flavors. We also shared the Brisket Nachos which comes with blue corn chips, brisket, queso, corn, pico, crema, and a chimichurri. These nachos were really good. The blue corn chips were large and able to hold the ingredients. You could taste the saltiness from the brisket meat while all of the other ingredients added texture and flavor. For our meal we shared three tacos. I ordered the Chimichurri Steak Taco which comes with steak, rice, chimichurri, and avacado on a flour tortilla. It was delicious. The steak was really good and the other ingredients added so much flavor. I also tried the Rotisserie Chicken Taco which comes with shredded chicken, queso, corn, pico, and salsa. I ordered it on a flour tortilla. The taco was yummy. You could definitely taste the chicken and freshness of the ingredients. My husband ordered the Chicken and Waffle taco which comes with chicken tenders, bacon, gravy, slaw, maple syrup, and an aioli on a waffle tortilla. I tried this taco and it was very flavorful but it was too sweet for me. My husband however enjoyed the sweet flavor. My husband also ordered the Korean Fried Rice which is listed under the Pork Tacos. It's was supposed to have pulled pork, egg, fried rice, aioli, red onions, jalapenos, and grilled pineapple. When he asked about it the woman explained that it wasn't a taco and that it could be served as a side in a bowl. We ended up with fried rice that had little to no flavor. The only ingredients in the bowl was rice and a little bit of egg. It was a disappointment. Overall the atmosphere is cool with a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, the service was friendly, and the majority of the food was fresh and tasty.

Located in The Domain. Friendly and efficient customer service. Consistently good tacos.

We kicked off a birthday poker run here, and Velvet Taco was a great place to start. The outdoor patio was awesome and the weather was absolutely perfect, which made it easy for everyone to gather, grab drinks, and hang out. The line to order was short and the service was fast. I really enjoyed the steak taco, and while the queso was just okay, it still paired well with a margarita. This spot worked perfectly as a meetup location for my group and set a fun tone for the rest of the night.

The food was delicious. Nothing special but the price was right. The music was so loud it was difficult to place my order. I ordered a lot of... WHAT? It took a little longer to get the shrimp bowl out and by the time it was ready the queso was cold and cumbersome to dip.

Sixth Street's neon and noise are basically next door, the Capitol sits up the hill, and the whole area is packed with people, bars, and that classic Austin mix of polished downtown hustle and late-night chaos. Velvet Taco is pure counter-service: you walk right up, order at the register, and then grab a seat. There's plenty of seating, so even with a couple of kids in tow it was no problem finding a spot. The place leans hard into what can only be called white-people tacos--soft, sad flour tortillas that taste like they came straight out of a grocery-store package, loaded with every wild creation the kitchen can invent. Global mashups, brunch hybrids, burger impostors, the works. No one is pretending these are the real deal. I went for the chicken-and-waffles taco, which was actually built on a thin, real waffle instead of a tortilla. Surprisingly good--crispy, a little sweet, chicken holding its own. The burger taco tasted exactly like a cheeseburger that had wandered into a tortilla and decided to stay. We also tried the shrimp taco (fine), one daughter got the kids' chicken taco (perfectly kid-level), and the other ordered the chicken tikka (spicy, saucy, and very much in the "why is this on a tortilla?" category). Everything was okay. Comparable to Torchy's in that same creative-American-taco lane. If you're looking for a true Mexican taco, stay far away. But if you just want to play around with some decent flavors on a cheap flour store-bought tortilla while sitting in the middle of downtown Austin, this is your spot. Not my favorite. Glad I tried it. Won't be back.

I ordered 4 tacos: the migas, migas poblano, shrimp macha (!!), and the Dona Reyna tacos. All of these specific tacos were priced between $6 and $6.75 per taco, not bad in Austin, and not bad considering the quality of said tacos. As you can see from my order, I opted on the more "novel" choices and they did not disappoint; that said, I do HIGHLY recommend the two variations of the migas taco and the shrimp macha taco. Oh, the shrimp macha was so FIRE, the flavors were bold and smoky with a kiss of heat. The migas tacos were FULLY LOADED, and the scramble with the tortilla chips were flavorul.
