I visited Taco Nooga on 7/25 with guests from out of town, raving about how good the food was. We had driven in from Cleveland. I have a service animal, which according to the ADA, I must have full control over at all times. For this reason, as he is in training, he was worn in a sling on my person. He never even touched the floor. Mario, our server, was absolutely amazing! However, after being greeted by another server and providing our drink order, Brenda (the manager) came over and asked if he was a service animal. Perfectly normal. I smiled, said yes, and expected to continue our meal. She said she needed to see his papers and certificate. I advised her that I did have a copy of his letter, but she can not legally ask for these, and that there is not a required "certificate". She claimed the health department told her she was required to ask. I told her I would show her, but that again, she was acting illegally. (I didn't want my family to be refused service. Had I been there alone, I would have caused a scene.) My ain't that was with me said, "This is ridiculous. We don't want to eat here." Trying to rectify the situation, I pulled out my physician's letter that stated my diagnosis and violated my privacy, all so my family could eat in peace. Brenda, you should be ASHAMED of yourself, and know your law before you embarrass someone like that! As promised, I'll be reporting you and your establishment to the local health department. BEST TACO I have ever eaten. And that says a lot since I'm a picky eater. Haha. I got the Grilled Chicken Taco. The tortillas are handmade, chicken was perfect, and it was topped with red onions, cilantro, lime, and a sauce on the side. Definitely tasted authentic and super fresh. Really torn on this place. The tacos al pastor were good and the service was quick, patient and friendly however, the food was so greasy. We got four tacos to share. The carnitas, carne, pastor, and a taconooga with steak. Little bit didn't even want to eat the tacos because they were so greasy. The taconooga was an interesting idea but it was disappointing. The corn dish was like canned corn with cheese and no seasoning. I will say their portions were generous and the tacos were loaded with meat. I think their are better options in Chatanooga. We really only chose this place because we were eating late on a weekday and not much was open. read more

I have been wanting to come here for awhile and today was the day! The place was fairly crowded but luckily there was a table when we walked in. We ordered the chips with the spicy guacamole and salsa mix. It comes out looking like green goo. It actually was pretty tasty but I would probably prefer it was just mixed together and obviously not beat into submission. The chips at first were addictive and we started to inhale them. At some point their greasiness caught up to us. They were good and crunchy but had a light coating of oil on almost every one. Tacos arrived. I got the carnitas tacos and wife got the carne asada ones both the 3 for $8 deal. The carnitas tacos were amazing and the 3 sauces they brought were extra bonus. I swapped one of my tacos for my wife's. Her carne asada tacos were disgusting. Oil ran out of them as you took a bite and it coated your mouth. I took 2 bites and gave up. I don't know if someone got carried away with the oil on the grill heating up the meat or what but I probably won't come back just based on this experience. Between the greasy chips and the couple of bites of greasy taco it left us feeling not great. I gave it 3 stars because my tacos were awesome and if I had never had that other taco I would have been happy as a clam. So I split the difference between a 2 and 4 star experience. read more

I've had Taconooga in the past at least a couple times and decided that it was time to pay them another visit. Unfortunately, the quality has gone down over the years and I believe they may have been out of spices, because this was perhaps the least flavorful authentic Mexican food I've ever had. My boyfriend and I ordered 3 tacos each and split guacamole and chips- for a total of about $30. They upcharge togo orders and a basket of chips costs extra as well, fyi. My grilled chicken tacos were flavorless, I had to drench them in hot sauce and lime juice to be able to eat them at all. The guacamole was also flavorless and was really not well made- I prefer my guac casero style with chunks in it, but there was literally a whole avocado half unsliced, just chilling. not worth 7 dollars. Go to Taqueria Jalisco on Main St instead, much more affordable and very flavorful!! read more

The chips and salsa were delicious but you had to pay by the basket. We probably won't return for that reason alone. The chicken fajitas were actually pretty tasty as well. But DON'T order the Carne Asada Tacos. I took one bite and almost threw up. It tastes like fake meat, definitely not any kind of steak as advertised. When you get here ask nicely about the size of the plate and they humiliate you by screaming and saying it's the size of a normal plate, I think is automatically a BIG NO for good customer service and getting people to want to come back. Also prices are crazy!!! Been to many Mexican restaurant and in some different states I well. & whether they have been the best tacos or the worst tacos they aren't more than 2.40$?!? 3$ for one?! Also getting here before another table of 8 and ordering before them too but having to wait another 10 minutes after they have already gotten their food? We loved it. Guacamole was very good except it needed more salt. The chips were thick and fresh: Shrimp tacos were excellent as were the bean and cheese. We also had the Mexican corn. Visiting from out-of-town over the weekend & the locals we asked rated this as their favorite Mexican restaurant. When we arrived, there was a couple in the corner, a huge group of SWAT officers & then a group of 10 college students. This was at 3pm! We were lucky to find a table :) We ordered 5 Coke bottles (love those!), a bowl of queso & mild salsa. The dips arrived with fresh, hot from the oven chips. Everything was delicious & the mild salsa was perfect for our three year old. For our main course we ordered the Taconooga Steak taco, Taconooga Chicken taco, Shrimp tacos & three quesadillas. Everything was outstanding! Fresh, fast & authentic Mexican food (not Tex-Mex). Our family will definitely come here again on our next trip. We heard the baked nachos are fantastic, so we will try those next. read more

Mexidip and taconooga tacos! They're delicious and you should try both. Half the menu is traditional tacos with cilantro and onion. The other half includes some more creative tacos and the taconooga can be found on this list. I highly recommend trying this. The tacos come on 2 corn tortillas that stay together very well. Each taco has a lot of meat etc so I split my taco between the 2 tortillas to make 2 smaller tacos. I find it easier to eat and I feel like I'm getting more food. The mexidip has chorizo, queso, pico, avocado, and lots of other goodness all in one bowl. It's like crack on a chip. Go to taconooga! read more

I absolutely love this restaurant! I'm from Texas and just moved to Chattanooga a few weeks ago and have been looking for a great Mexican restaurant. Taconooga has exceeded my expectations - I can safely say I have never had a better taco in my 22 years. To start, the homemade chips and salsa verde were great. I ordered a carnitas taco and the Taconooga taco - I cannot begin to describe how wonderful these both were. Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant - you won't regret it!!!! No stars. First time coming here and walked through the doors, the workers just looked at us and my guess was we had to seat ourselves. Sat down and seen they had a drink special holder on the table, asked for the special $2 corona, was told by the waitress it's not $2, she didn't even know why it was on there. Ordered the carne asada and grilled chicken tacos. Both sucked. Both tasteless and overcooked. Ordered the Mexican street corn to-go, horrible. If you want good authentic Mexican go to el cactus in fort Oglethorpe or Molcajete next to Pin Strikes. And if you want good street corn, go to the flea market on I-75. Amazing!!! Went in on a Saturday to reward our youngest son for a taking the sunny Summer Saturday on a Saturday morning. A friend told me several times this is one of his favorite restaurants in town. So we walked in around 1PM. Seated immediately, handed menus and waters immediately, fantastic chips and salsa followed soon and our orders were taken. HOLY COW that was awesome! Had the Carnitas and they were but BOMB! My wife and son had some sort of chicken and shrimp tacos and were equally blown away. Super affordable. Can't wait to go back. Came here from NC expecting some good authentic Mexican food, whenever we came in they greeted us pretty good. They never handed us chips and salsa like they do in every other Mexican restaurant?? But anyways prices were of the roof. And their waitresses were being smartasses and from going to other Mexican restaurants I know a taco is no more than 2.50 but these guys charge 3.00 for theirs I'm no cheap fuck but danggg. I came in with high expectations and left with mixed feelings with our overall experience. First, part of the "authentic" aspect of this restaurant is the slight language barrier we experienced with our waitress. The chips (which took forever to arrive) were thick and pretty flavorless and the chipotle queso tasted like no cheese dip we've ever eaten and not in a good way. The rice was a bit unusual as well, being more like rice pilaf (like white rice with peas, corn and green beans) than Mexican rice- it was tasty, but didn't seem to fit. My husband got steak tacos and really enjoyed them and I LOVED my empanadas. Also like the offerings of Spanish sodas and bottles of Mexican coke. Overall, an ok experience but we probably will try another taco place next time. read more

E brainerd location. Food was 5 stars. Got the fried cactus appetizer out of curiosity. It was good but has a fairly neutral taste. Breading was dark, probably time to change the oil. For main course got carne asada taco and shrimp taco. They were most excellent! Steak is seared which brings out wonderful flavor. Best Mexican in Chattanooga! I usually get the Mexican dip and the tacos El pastor! It's really good and the service is good as well. The serve beer and coke products but not tequila which would be the only con. It's authentic and not your typical American Mexican food. Give it a go! read more
