We had high expectations after looking at the online menu and reading reviews. It was a let down. The food was underwhelming and the service was mediocre. Carne Asada was dry and flavorless. Picadillo was forgettable. Carnitas were flavorful but dry. The rice and beans were some of the worst I've ever had. I wonder if the downtown location is any better? Legitimately best tacos we've ever had and my wife and I eat a lot of tacos. Authentic homemade tortillas that remind me of the tortillas made before my eyes in the rural towns of Mexico. The food was pretty good, whereas the service was a bit lacking. We came in right around the lunch rush though, and it was packed so I didn't really blame them too much for the service. But after meeting my girlfriend at the table it was a while before I spoke to a server. I had a lengua taco and the beef tongue was melt in your mouth delicious. The carne asada taco was a bit disappointing. The steak was somewhat bland and dry; simply overcooked. But, the al pastor was the highlight of my plate. I'd heard this was a good New Mexican place so I decided to try it for a quick lunch. The guacamole was huge and had large chunks. It tasted good but the chips weren't great. I had the taconooga and the fried egg taco. Both were gross to me. Cold creamed corn was unexpected and ruined the dish. The dark red sauce was bitter. read more

Not a bad place to go for a quick dinner and cheap beer. We came grabbed a few beers for their $2 Wednesday import special. Had the spicy guacamole, which is a different consistency than what most people are used to. The flavor was good, but we prefer chunky guac - depends on your preference! As for tacos, we tried the Carne Asada and the Camaron Especial. The Carne was good - the meat was chopped into bite size pieces and the toppings made this one a winner. The Especial wasn't our favorite - we got the grilled shrimp on this one but it seemed a little undercooked and a bit bland. Service was good, but could have been a little better considering the size of the restaurant. Overall, the tacos were a little pricey but we'd stop in again for a quick dinner. read more

Two words... Shrimp Tacos...just get them, they are so good! Everything here is very fresh down to the homemade tortillas that add the perfect touch to the tacos! Ate lunch here with my wife. The food is okay... Very little spice to liven up a generally nondescript menu. The "spicey" avocado and salsa dip could hardly have had less flavor. Three tacos plates are priced at a level that usually includes rice and beans - but those are ala carte. The place was clean and the staff friendly and pleasant. Needs to be at least $$. This place is good! It has great food and it's yet another great restaurant on the North Shore. The only reason I give this place 4 stars is that the service could be better. And all of the staff here are very attentive and polite but their English is not very good. I ordered fried cactus and 3 carne asada tacos and got 3 cactus tacos and 1 carne asada taco. Friendly place with authentic ingredients. I can't stand Mexican restaurants that charge for chips and salsa (which they do) so that was a negative. The food was average to above average. It seems like they're going for variety/fusion over quality, killer dishes. Growing up in Arizona I know good Mexican food and this is a little too Americanized to really satisfy that craving for authentic, simple meals. Plus the cost is way too high - charging almost $5 for beans and rice on the side?? This place was awful. Let's be real here, the table next to us was served and they were able to eat and leave TWICE before we got our food. The food was COLD and wasn't good enough for the wait. I get the waitress was in training and it was her first day but we had eight people and she was by herself. We also saw multiple HUGE cockroaches and wiring sticking out of the ceiling. Then once we asked for the check she never asked if we wanted two checks or one, we got one. Then once we asked to split it the manager, I assume, came and made excuses about being busy but yet she could serve multiple tables who got here after us BEFORE us. My husband and I called in an order this evening and tried Taconooga for the first time.... wow! Everything was fresh and delicious. I had one carne asada taco and one grilled chicken taco, carne asada was better. I drizzled some of their house salsa on both to give it a little extra kick and it was perfect. Chattanooga boasts many taco joints. According to my mom, you know you're going to get good tacos when they have lengua (cow tongue) on the menu, and Taconooga did not disappoint. The lengua was tender, well seasoned and delicious! The mexi-Guac was on point as well. My son and i cake here for a late lunch. Greeted in a friendly way, sat and ordered quickly. Bright cheerful atmosphere,and although it got crowded it never got too noisy- i like that. Big delicious menu, but we eventually chose fhe tamales since my son had never had one. They were so yummy (although i wish there was a little more filling as usual) and my kid loved the rice and beans- said they were the best he'd ever had (in all of his 8 years). Prices are reasonable and food is great. Whether to go or to stay in, i recommend this little local joint- fantastic, authentic Mexican food. P.s. Free parking in back! read more
