A gentleman arrived and complained about the girl not helping and being inside on her phone. We didn't know what to do, but he did knock on the window and order. We ordered the $50 4 person taco plater even tho we are only two. We saw the cook putting our order together and letting the girl know. She then got busy with a guy that lost his wallet on Monday, she then spend about 10 minutes with him trying to see in the cameras what had happened. We then had to step in and ask to please be provided with our now cold order. She passed us the bag and we had to again ask for the plates, utensils, napkins and our drinks. We got home and the amount of food was very small, the cucumber was cut into humongous chunks, and honestly the flavor was not to die for. I have been to this location of Tacos 1986 several times. My go to order are the tacos and vampiros. Chicken, carne asada, al pastor...all very delicious! The salsas and guacamole complement my order excellently! I am giving two stars, however, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, at times, the amount of meat per taco or vampiro is minimal. In turn, at times, the amount of meat is very fair. So, consistency is lacking. Thus, effectively , you don't always get your money's worth. Secondly, I believe that they are understaffed or not prepared when business gets busy. For example, I recently stopped by on a Saturday at 10:30am for a couple of tacos. After waiting for ten minutes for someone to come to the window and provide some service, I was told that the wait time for anything that I order will be a minimum of 25 minutes because they have large online orders that they need to prepare. Obviously, I left. The employee was kind but appeared to also be a stressed out. Though I understand that online (DoorDash, GrubHub, etc...) orders are a reality in the world today, it is unfortunate that customers frequenting a business in-person would not be able to be served in a decent and timely manner. I recommend Tacos 1986 if you would like some good food. However, only go in-person if you know that you have, for sure, 25 minutes for a couple of street tacos. Tacos 1986 in Sherman Oaks is definitely worth checking out especially on Taco Tuesday (if you eat meat) I showed up during what I expected to be a busy time, but the wait was almost nonexistent. My food was ready in less than five minutes, which was impressive. Fatima, the cashier, really made the experience stand out. She was incredibly pleasant and patient, answered all my questions without rushing me, and made ordering easy. Great customer service goes a long way, and she absolutely delivered. The tacos themselves are pretty good. The menu is on the smaller side, but they do a solid job covering different options, including vegetarian choices. I ordered the mushroom quesadilla tacos, and they came with guacamole, cheese, cilantro, and onion simple but flavorful and satisfying. Overall, I'm giving them 3 stars mainly because the customer service and speed were phenomenal. It's a walk up taco stand, and it pains me to say it, but it needs more seating. There's tacos, quesadillas (a taco with cheese on it), horchata, and a variety of other items on the menu. I have only ordered the tacos and quesadillas. I love the meats, I love the generous helping of guacamole, I love the sauces available on the side, but I am not crazy about the cold tomato / pico de gallo that almost looks like chunky tomato soup. Service is quick and efficient. Tortillas are made fresh. The people here are helpful No restroom access for patrons, given it's inside their little kitchen area. These are legit some of, if not the worst tacos I've had. I ordered a grip of tacos to try these out including tacos, mulitas, quesadillas. Once I got home to take a bite, they were hard as a rock. The tortillas were rock solid! Even after warming them up, and the meat was dry af. Like crazy dry, like I was eating jerky! The best part is, I spent over $40 on tacos, and they didn't bother to include any salsa, limes, or even a napkin. The tacos are the closest I've encountered to my favorite style of taco. The Rosarito Beach and Tijuana tacos. Fatima is an excellent jack-of-all-trades. The lady at the register was a bit stand offish and rude, the food took about 20 minutes which is a long time for a grab and go place. The tacos and quesadillas (which is really just a taco with cheese on it) are tiny for the price you pay, and everything was horribly bland. No taste to anything- the carne asada, the beans, the rice... all bland. We also ordered chips and guacamole, pictured below. The chips (which were shells just left whole) were tasteless and unsalted, the guacamole was unseasoned plain avocado- no salt or lime juice or anything whatsoever. Saw this place near home for a while, even before they opened... was intrigued because who doesn't love tacos?! I am NOT a fan of Brick and mortar taco stores. They all suck equally. Truck or roadside is the way to go. Visiting this location only confirmed my theory. Tacos are supposed to be packed with flavor, but these were the exact opposite. For a place that gets so much hype, it was extremely disappointing. I have driven passed this place a number of times and still had not made it in. I also read someone's review about another location regarding their mushroom burritos. I decided to give it a try. Not good. The mushrooms were so overcooked I could not eat them. I actually got two tacos vs. a burrito as I didn't want too much food. Very disappointed. It took a minute for the staff to even acknowledge me when I stepped up to order with just one other person in front of me. The food here is exceptional!!!! Truly felt like I was getting authentic street tacos like when I visit Mexico. These seem to be Tijuana style and I'm here for it. We tried one of everything on their menu except the mushrooms (Not a fan in general). My favorite meat option had to be the Al pastor; seasoned so well and cooked perfectly. I appreciated the tiny bits of pineapple as well. The tortillas are also delicious and in general a good size. Everything is served with a hefty portion of meat and it does get pretty messy but I'm not complaining. The burritos are smaller than those of other places but again filled to the brim with meat and super juicy. Everything has guac on it at no additional cost so that's a big plus! They also serve your food with a sides of cucumber, radishes, limes and salt. They have salsas of different spice levels to choose from too. We ordered their house made Jamaica and lemonade; they come bottled and are delicious. My only complaint is that I wish it came in a bigger size lol While we were there a young gentleman that I think may have been the manager or owner asked us if it was our first time there; made pleasant small talk while he check on us and even offered us a free el Perron taco to try! All the staff there were nice to be honest and that made it all the more enjoyable. Prices are decent too and the combos look very well worth it! There is a parking lot although it does get busy and they have no restroom. Luckily there's a Starbucks across the parking lot of the need is dire. read more

It's a solid spot. Solid service providing solid food. I went several times to order some tacos or a burrito. Considering how popular tacos are in LA, I would say this is a standard location. The price is a bit higher than average to the point where it's almost at the price of a sit-down restaurant price. There's no indoor seating and the outdoor seats are definitely not something I would pay extra for. Meat selections are pretty common - almost like what you would get at a taco truck. Considering the kitchen space, I would almost expect more, but to each their own. For those that have not been before, it's a part of a strip mall with a busy parking lot. Service is pretty quick. They've got a permanent counter on the sidewalk, but you'll find people just standing and hanging out, eating their tacos. Burritos are $13 each and they are small and horrible tasting. Everyone who ordered a burrito in my party hated their burritos!!! The place was OUT OF Dr Pepper! The cashier was very frustrated with me, because of the large order, and there were people waiting behind me to order. She was literally upset that I was spending a lot of money to purchase food and it was stressing her out...she took her stress out on our party, because she didn't know how to deal with the overwhelming order. You would think spending money is good for business, but in this case, I was faulted for bringing a large group! The drink order got messed up, because they were out of Dr. Pepper. Two waters that I purchased for $2.50 each were not given to us at first. They got the tacos out, but the sides (rice and beans) were delivered/ready at least 5-7 minutes later...very tacky. The beans were undercooked and horrible tasting! The cashier did NOT want to go out of her way for us and I literally felt like she treated me and our party as if we were inconveniencing her. Went back for the grand opening and was VERY DISAPPOINTED like many other reviewers have stated you can go to any corner taco stand or truck and have it be better quality and cheaper than this place. I spent almost $50 for two people to eat low quality tacos and not even be full or satisfied afterwards. The meat had GRISTLE in it. And by the way their portion sizes are terrible, they barely put any meat in the tacos to begin with! I waited forever to get my food as the employees are very slow.
