Service: Horrible! Food: Not good Value/Price: Expensive Quality: Low We arrive and the window was closed, so we started ordering on the tablet. A gentleman arrived and complained about the girl not helping and being inside on her phone. We didn't know what to do, but he did knock on the window and order. We ordered the $50 4 person taco plater even tho we are only two. We saw the cook putting our order together and letting the girl know. She then got busy with a guy that lost his wallet on Monday, she then spend about 10 minutes with him trying to see in the cameras what had happened. We then had to step in and ask to please be provided with our now cold order. She passed us the bag and we had to again ask for the plates, utensils, napkins and our drinks. We got home and the amount of food was very small, the cucumber was cut into humongous chunks, and honestly the flavor was not to die for. I have been to this location of Tacos 1986 several times. My go to order are the tacos and vampiros. Chicken, carne asada, al pastor...all very delicious! The salsas and guacamole complement my order excellently! I am giving two stars, however, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, at times, the amount of meat per taco or vampiro is minimal. In turn, at times, the amount of meat is very fair. So, consistency is lacking. Thus, effectively , you don't always get your money's worth. Secondly, I believe that they are understaffed or not prepared when business gets busy. For example, I recently stopped by on a Saturday at 10:30am for a couple of tacos. After waiting for ten minutes for someone to come to the window and provide some service, I was told that the wait time for anything that I order will be a minimum of 25 minutes because they have large online orders that they need to prepare. Obviously, I left. The employee was kind but appeared to also be a stressed out. Though I understand that online (DoorDash, GrubHub, etc...) orders are a reality in the world today, it is unfortunate that customers frequenting a business in-person would not be able to be served in a decent and timely manner. I recommend Tacos 1986 if you would like some good food. However, only go in-person if you know that you have, for sure, 25 minutes for a couple of street tacos. It's an ok place for a quick burrito. We ordered here again yesterday via delivery and it wasn't amazing. It was just ok.... My biggest argument is the amount of meat they give you in a burrito or the bowl. If you don't get extra meat, you are not going to be happy. My little bowl became a lot more expensive just so I could get enough meat in there to be happy. I will say that the flour tortillas are very good. Just the taste in general is wonderful. I pay for one on the side of my bowl so I can make a taco or 2. The reason for that?!I tried o dering tacos and they looked so sad. There were unfortunately nothing to brag about. Tried to communicate with woman at front, didn't speak any English, asked to speak to someone who did, which apparently no one there did. Asked to speak to manager hoping to resolve this error. Tacos 1986 in Sherman Oaks is definitely worth checking out especially on Taco Tuesday (if you eat meat) I showed up during what I expected to be a busy time, but the wait was almost nonexistent. She was incredibly pleasant and patient, answered all my questions without rushing me, and made ordering easy. Great customer service goes a long way, and she absolutely delivered. There's tacos, quesadillas (a taco with cheese on it), horchata, and a variety of other items on the menu. I have only ordered the tacos and quesadillas. I love the meats, I love the generous helping of guacamole, I love the sauces available on the side, but I am not crazy about the cold tomato / pico de gallo that almost looks like chunky tomato soup. Service is quick and efficient. Tortillas are made fresh. The people here are helpful No restroom access for patrons, given it's inside their little kitchen area. Many times I have to wait to order even though it's past 8am & they are open. No taste to anything- the carne asada, the beans, the rice... all bland. We also ordered chips and guacamole, pictured below. The chips (which were shells just left whole) were tasteless and unsalted, the guacamole was unseasoned plain avocado- no salt or lime juice or anything whatsoever. Food quality not the best, bought some tacos tonight since it was on the way home. First time ordering here, I was excited to try them out since they make their tortillas fresh. We ordered through their touch pad kiosk and it was easy enough to navigate. Ordered 3 beef tacos, a chicken taco, one taco with carnitas(pork), and a chicken quesadilla for take out. Done in about 10-15 minutes, there were people ahead of us. I failed to check the order, never got the quesadilla and ended up with a chicken taco instead. So check your order! The chicken and carnitas tacos weren't out of this world and a bit bland, presentation wasn't great since it has a big smear of a Mediocre smooth guacamole on top. The asada taco had a chemical taste of charcoal, also the beef quality was a bit tough and grisly, little chunks of the fatty tissue was found. The tacos were thin with not much taste, that really surprised me. On top of this I didn't realize that hot sauce or salsa was not provided or offered. It's a solid spot. Solid service providing solid food. I went several times to order some tacos or a burrito. Considering how popular tacos are in LA, I would say this is a standard location. The price is a bit higher than average to the point where it's almost at the price of a sit-down restaurant price. There's no indoor seating and the outdoor seats are definitely not something I would pay extra for. Meat selections are pretty common - almost like what you would get at a taco truck. Considering the kitchen space, I would almost expect more, but to each their own. For those that have not been before, it's a part of a strip mall with a busy parking lot.
