If you're craving breakfast food but want it served quicker than a typical breakfast spot HomeState is perfect. They specialize in breakfast tacos. I ordered a mushroom quesadilla and egg and potato taco. The service was quick. The waiter cleaned my table for me without me having to ask. I like the large patio because sometimes it's just nice to get air. Healthy food with a reasonable price. Will come again.

Ugh another fail for this location. Absolutely full of grease and a soggy lunch

Tried to give this location another chance and got a sloppy joe? So much oil and water that I had to eat it with a fork

    Gorgeous patio.

As promised, I went back after a couple of years. HomeState didn't get any better. I had a chicken salad and a side of flour tortillas. The ranch for the salad was extremely bland and watery. It tasted like a nondescript white dressing. The salad needed a good, tangy ranch. The chicken... just protein. And who doesn't love a good, homemade flour tortilla? We've all had them at Sonoratown and Casablanca... who doesn't want to eat like 10? The flour tortillas here are seriously like cardboard. I had to spit mine out. Who makes tortillas like this? Especially homemade flour ones! HomeState just doesn't get it. This time I'll never return. Darn.

Yummy food that is fresh and super flavorful. We tried several breakfast tacos and they were all delicious. They are about 5 bites each so the portions are good sized to be able to try several different kinds. Service is good and there is ample seating inside and out. Small parking lot but street parking typically can be found.

Incredible breakfast tacos and Migas! I live far away in NorCal but every opportunity I get to visit LA, if I'm anywhere near a HomeState I will happily get my breakfast taco fix. This was my first visit to this location. There was only one person ahead of me when I lined up to order around 9:50 am on a Monday. Loved the chill vibe of the outdoor seating area, which was quieter than inside where there were a few tables. Service was friendly, and they bring your food out to you after you order at the counter. I ordered the Lonestar Migas (5/5) that was packed with brisket, cheddar, and pico de gallo. It's delicious and pretty filling on its own! For breakfast tacos, I got the Don't Mess With Texas (5/5) which is a MUST try. A perfect breakfast taco! I also got the Guadalupe (4/5) which was good but I realized I'm less of a chorizo fan and prefer the brisket or bacon I had with my other menu items. The outdoor area is also dog friendly! I fully enjoyed having breakfast here and getting to see a few sweet, well behaved dogs was a bonus. I wish we could get a HomeState in the SF Bay Area! I can't wait to come back for more tacos.

Great spot for tacos! They have an outdoor patio with seating, casual vibes. Good for a meetup with friends or a casual date. You order and pay inside and they bring out your food when it's ready. I got three tacos on their house-made flour tortillas. I got chicken, brisket and Fort Worth (chicken with bacon and jalapeños). They come individually wrapped in foil. They were pretty generously filled! Beware the tortilla gets a little soggy and messy depending on the taco you get, so be prepared with napkins. I liked the brisket one the best by far. Next I liked the Fort Worth, the chicken was a little bland. I recommend adding hot sauce and their salsa to the tacos too, gives it more flavor and kick. Nice service here too!

This is the first time that I have eaten at the HomeState location, usually I grab the tacos to go. So first, let me say that I loved the vibe. It is a perfect spot for a summer meal. They offer open seating which was not at all crowded. The weather was great and it was just such a relaxing evening. The ordering process is pretty straightforward. Walk up to the counter, order your food, they give you a number and deliver when it is ready. On the subject of drinks, expect an awesome variety of interesting beverages. On the night that we went, they had two varieties of margaritas, one was spicy and so interesting. The staff was incredibly helpful and even offered us tastings to ensure that we didn't order something we wouldn't like. The menu is fairly simple. I always order the potato tacos, at five dollars you cannot beat it. They are absolutely delicious. So whether you want to dine in, or take out HomeState is a perfect option if you're looking for a reasonably priced delicious meal.

HomeState is a wildly popular, expanded taco stand that aims to satisfy a wide array of cravings and succeeds from breakfast through dinner. The indoor/outdoor set-up, featuring counter seating, 2-tops, 4-tops and larger, communal picnic tables, makes it easy for singles, couples and larger groups to nestle into whatever arrangement works for them and start having a good time from the get-go. You order at the counter and get a number, so this is a fast casual spot, but it's upgraded well beyond the norm in this category. The decor is rustic and convivial, with faux incandescent string lights giving the place a warm, homey feel. They've got a liquor license, so beers and wines and slushy cocktails are also on the menu. You can definitely have yourself a time. The menu of tacos is straight forward and relatively simple, but all the ingredients are top notch, and the flavors are memorable. For breakfast, I had the Pecos Taco, which was fresh scrambled eggs and a slow roasted brisket that pretty much melted in my mouth. I chose to add some cheddar cheese; it was a nice bonus, but the taco would most definitely be fine without it, which is how they have it on the menu, as if they know something about it I also grabbed a side of their crispy potatoes with tomatillo ranch. There's nothing earth-shatteringly new about these spuds, but they are fresh and crisp and nicely seasoned, and a perfect compliment to the tacos. The house-made ranch gained a touch of flavor from the tomatillos, but I could have taken even more flavor to make it a bit more special. A duo of house-made salsas are brought with your order: salsa verde and salsa roja. Both offer great flavor without too much heat, but other hot sauces are available if you want to boost the fire. This is a great place to kick back with some simple, well-prepared and very tasty food. And the covered patio offers a perfect cross-breeze in the morning.

Great breakfast place with good pricing and great quality. I don't normally enjoy breakfast. When I eat a homestate taco thing, I do. I love how they have a parking lot that appears to have 3 spaces... but it has 6 (maybe). It's very fresh and they make their own flour tortillas which are pretty filling and potentially calorie heavy but they are good. So I recommend getting 2 tacos and the best options on the menu in my opinion are the chicken or brisket. So Then you have to ask yourself... am I a chicken or steak person??? The ambiance is good, I've included a photo or two. Great place, great value.

Really enjoyed this spot. It's casual, easy, and exactly what you want for good Mexican food without feeling rushed. We ordered the queso, chicken quesadilla, two Tijuana Panther tacos, and two large margaritas on the rocks. The salsas were a standout -- lots of flavor and variety. The tacos were definitely the favorite at the table, and the margaritas were strong and refreshing without being too sweet. It's an order-at-the-counter setup, but the staff was friendly and welcoming. We had no trouble finding street parking right down the street, which was a nice surprise. The covered patio has heaters and is dog-friendly, making it a great spot to hang out, especially in the evening. Would absolutely come back -- solid food, chill vibe, and an easy place to meet up with friends or a small group

When I'm in LA, HomeState always finds its way into my dinner rotation. The Sherman Oaks location is a new fave: the patio looked lovely from the inside, and the employees were so lovely! The interior section was spacious, with an open kitchen - you might see them making tortillas as you wait to place your order, a fun touch. I had always wanted to try their loaded queso, and I wasn't starving, so today was the day. They certainly did not skimp on any of the toppings, and the brisket was fab. The portion was big enough I had some leftover. I opted for the Chicano Batman taco, which had nicely seasoned potatoes. The real star, however, was the frozen strawberry margarita. If you're there when it's in season, try it! You will not be disappointed. It's was perfectly refreshing on a warm day.

    Frito Pie In A Bag
    Allie G.

The food really exceeded my expectations. I find from my experiences that Tex-mex places can be spot on with the flavors or completely miss the mark. Well they execute everything here beautifully. Sticking true to Tex-mex and not trying to pass off as Mexican food. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs as we ordered a ridiculous amount of food. We ordered 7 tacos; one of each of the anytime tacos on their menu as well as one Tijuana panther and one Chicano Batman. We also ordered the loaded queso with soyrizo and the frito pie in a bag with brisket as they were running low on ground beef. Honestly ALL of their proteins were delicious even the chicken and soyrizo. We opted for flour tortillas and were pleasantly surprised with how generously they're served with meat and toppings. The queso had great flavor and the frito pie was so so good. They have red and green salsas both of which were yummy though neither were spicy at all. To drink we got margaritas on the rocks. A little sweet for me but boy are they potent lol they have both indoor and outdoor seating; the patio is more spacious and they have heaters. The service was good, we were helped by Miles who was friendly and chatted with us when he could. The prices are a little high but the food is really good. They do have a happy hour as well

    Big Queso, Lil Guac, chips
    Scott B.

My friend recommended Homestate to me so I came by to try them for lunch. It is a pleasent establishment with counter service and a decent variety on their menu. I was turned off at first because of the price for their tacos not expecting them to be so much, however when our order arrived at our table I understood why. Their tacos are quiet large. One is almost enough for a whole meal. I tried the chicken and Picadillo tacos enjoyed them both. However, I'm not a fan of massive tacos like these. It almost felt a bit like a chore to eat just one due to their size. All of the ingredients were great and the tortilla suprisingly held up but it was definitely a bit of a mess. I also tried their Queso and Guac both of which were fantastic. I ordered a big queso cause I thought the lil might have been too small and boy was I wrong. A lil would've been enough. Overall, Homestate is a nice place with friendly staff and some decent food.

    Yes

    We do!

When is Happy Hour and what does it entail?

Last I saw it was 3-5pm on weekdays. Their margaritas were marked down to $6

    Do they take reservations?

I don't believe so. You order your food at a counter, then find your table.

On the menu the quesadillas can be ordered with four or corn tortillas, but the option for corn tortilla is not available when ordering on line-how do you request that?

I haven't ordered online yet, but shouldn't there be a special instructions box of some sort? If not, put it in their suggestion box.

    Vegan options available?

Yes they do have Vegan Options.🌮😊

Is online ordering available at the new location yet?

Hi James! Online ordering is available as of this morning on our website. It will be available soon on our app as well. Thank you!

One of the seasonal specials is the Martha which is an upgraded version of chicken salad (Tarragon chicken salad, apples, shaved fennel, arugula, basil, lemon, garlic aioli on grilled Ciabatta, $16) which sounded pretty good. I placed the order online and headed over to this busy section of Studio City. Street parking can be tricky especially in the afternoon, and there are 'parking ticketers' out in force. This was my first time here at this location, but they had a handy takeout window at the one end, and a friendly guy handed me the bag. As for the food, I could only eat half of the sandwich; one reason is because it was a Lot of sandwich and second, I didn't really enjoy this for the most part (I did give the other half to a hungry co-worker who did like it). Then my favorite part, the cookies. I ordered two orders (two come in an order) so I had four to enjoy. The first bag was a decent sized pair of cookies, but they shafted me on the second order. This was basically one cookie cut to make two which was clearly noticeable compared to the other order. I was too far to return these but next time, it's something I will check on before leaving. I didn't have this problem the first time I came here (even though it was a different location) but as for anything, I recommend checking your order prior to leaving. Shortly after, she walked in and we both had breakfast together. I have been to this lovely, well kept and maintained establishment at least 7 times in the past. 2nd time reviewing this place. We ordered a Veggie Omelette that came with: spinach, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, & asparagus. For cheese we opted for Swiss cheese free of charge. ($18.99), got a side order of fruit ($5.99), an order of English Muffin(toasted) ($2.99), and a large Orange Juice for ($5.49). Total came out to be $30.70 including tax, minus his tip. Both guys Nathan and Benny were very helpful, attentive and nice. Food was very hot, DELICIOUS and prices were affordable for their portions. Nathan didn't charge me for the OJ, because he forgot to bring me my whipped cream that came with a side of half Waffle, that actually looked more like a full Waffle. We both stayed with water. They have pretty extensive menu options from breakfast, salads, wraps, and sandwiches. All types of beverages. Hot and cold. Business of operation is consistent, which I LOVE!! Gender neutral restroom, a nice patio on both sides of the restaurant, and about 8 to 10 spots of parking spaces behind the restaurant. Restroom was also clean and fully stocked with all the essentials. Nice artwork on the walls. You can also find street or meter parking. They have 2 or 3 other locations. They did a little touch up here and there that was very noticeable. This is a great breakfast/lunch spot to indulge yourself. I wanted to eat more, but one can only eat so much. Ambiance was very nice, chill, clean, and had overhead music playing inside the restaurant.. They have to-go orders, delivery, but no catering. 10/10. Will definitely return next time I am craving any one of their menu options. Thank you Nathan, Benny, management & Waffles!!

If you haven't been here yet you are missing out! As a Cafe Connoisseur, I can happily confirm that…read moreCafé Matcha is without a doubt the best matcha cafe in all of California, actually the entire U.S. Scratch that, the best in the whole damn world. Actually! This is the best cafe in the entire universe. There was this one cafe on Neptune but the space vampires ruined it... became way too bougie and it was way too cold, and they don't have matcha on Neptune! Also, the team there are no where near as nice as our local heroes at Café Matcha. I highly recommend the Hojicha, Green & Black or their legendary Coconut Matcha. You really can't go wrong with any of the delicious drinks at Café Matcha. They truly are the best in the business.

Absolutely love the cloud matchas. They have really quality matcha that isn't too sweet and the…read morecloud cream topping works perfectly with it. The curry ham pan is an incredibly good pastry. The drink sizes are small for the price, but that's not my biggest complaint. It's the miso carrot danish. I'm a very adventurous eater and these flavors do not work together. The quality of the pastry is top notch. However. This is an apple danish with roasted carrots on it. The flavors do not compliment each other. It doesn't know if it wants to be a sweet pastry or a savory pastry. The curry ham pan is so good I know you know how to make pastries better than this.
