I was staying in Gilroy for the night and this place got good reviews so me and my boyfriend tried it. The inside was very bright with walls of yellow and orange paint and kind of festive. Parking can be difficult and tight there was barely one 1 spot left that we parked in. We ordered the mixed fajita plate which was $26 which came with chicken, steak, and shrimp with bell peppers and onions. It came with 4 tortillas, lettuce, rice, and beans. There was a high school wrestling team that had a huge order before us and I thought I would have to wait a long time for food but the food came out surprisingly fast in 15 min! The food was good. They also have a salsa bar where you can get whatever salsa you want. Probably the worst burrito I've had. What the heck, this place looks hella authentic, felt like I was in TJ. Until you look at the price. $6 for a taco, and burritos starting at $12. I swear, it was the saddest burrito ever. I live in SD, so our burritos down there are amazing, was hoping the same. The burrito was so sad, it was super small for it too. I took a pic of it next to my hands, which are small in general. They dice up the meat super tiny, so it gets dried out. There was no onions or cilantro in there. I asked for no beans. Burrito was on the thin side too, half was tortilla. I would say their tortilla was good and fresh! There was no flavor in the meat and no flavor in general, super plain. Meat was also chewy, got some weird parts. But a good thing was their salsas. It was really good! You can drench the burrito in their salsas to give it flavor. I would not come here again. Reviews my receipt to realize that I was charged for EVERY SINGLE TOPPING on a super carne asada taco "with everything" without disclosure. Base price for a taco with meat is $5! Was charged for, grilled jalapeno and grilled onion, beans and guacamole & cheese. Ended up being close to $8 per taco which is crazy. Today was my first trip here and it was awesome! I can't wait to come back and try all the other yummy menu items. Fresh tortillas made every day already make this place stand out but the salsa bar is exceptional! There was a guacamolito salsa, a chunky roasted tomato salsa (molcahete?), a red taco sauce, and a green taco sauce. All of them were great but my favorite was the molcahete salsa. I barely skimmed the menu and Choriquezo popped out at me as one of their specials. It's was a generous portion of chorizo flat top grilled with cheese, piled over and under 4 homemade flour tortillas. You basically make tacos out of the gooey concoction. It was a great way for me to try out all the salsas. I also got a Chile Verde taco and that did not disappoint. The Chile flavor was great and the pork was nice and tender. It was about when I took my first bite that I noticed the Al pastor on the vertical rotisserie in the kitchen, that's definately on my radar for my next visit. I'm rarely in Gilroy but I have a new reason to come back. This place rocks! Give'em a try! read more

Found this spot in the middle of nowhere while visiting my aunt in Gilroy. I was a little shocked at the prices which seem a quite high but once you see the size of your order it all makes sense. Portions are ginormous! The torta al pastor I had was enough for two meals if not more, despite my attempt to power through it. The meat is so perfectly made and flavorful. It's is everything al pastor should be. This is honestly one of the best tortas I've ever had! They also make their own tortillas in house so tacos and burritos are also a must. I was in the area and decided to give this place another try. my mouth is watering just thinking about how DELICIOUS and fresh the food was. This location is a little different than the others because you order on the left separate from the kitchen and pick up on the right. The tortillas are fresh, the pastor was spot on, I do think the quality difference could be from weekday to weekend since it's busy on weekends. We usually order al pastor burritos from here and love them, but yesterday after our long drive from being out of town we decided to change it up and order carne asada fries (3orders) as main courses. Glad I asked what they come with cuz I found out they add ketchup and mustard!! What?! I've never heard of adding ketchup and mustard on carne asada fries. So of course we said hold the ketchup and mustard. Come home excited to eat after hours of driving to then be so disappointed and angry to find hardly any fries, the cheese they add is nacho cheese instead of melted shredded cheese- big difference, and they added a ton of ketchup!! Fries, ton of ketchup, nacho cheese, sour cream and meat of your choice. Disgusting combo, overpriced, bad quality and far from authentic. They should really take this off their menu! Mehhh!!! There's not much to say here. Tacos Ameca was "good" at one point, but no longer decent to me. They're known for their fresh tortillas and al pastor, but honestly, the tortillas are way too thick and the al pastor is extremely over cooked, making them super dry and also very salty. They do load up your taco with meat and give you an extra tortilla, but even then, it's really not worth eating here. Two stars because one is a low blow and they do have 'OK' service. read more
