It has gone downhill. The food used to be good. It is now very greasy, bland, and the portions have shrunk. The service has always been poor, going back to the days when they were in the Highland Ultra. Every location, old and new Lansing and Dyer the same way. Always been slow, never friendly. I went there from time to time because it tasted like the food I grew up with. I have reduced my visits over the years to about once a year. I went this time because it was on the way to my destination. I pre-ordered with a lot of time before my arrival. So the food was ready. The same sour lady mentioned in other reviews gave me my order and took the payment. I have walked out previously when this lady was at the counter because she seemed really put out that I came in and was ordering food. My destination was 5 minutes away so that is when I started eating. Discovering the tasteless, small steak burrito was disappointing. It was the amount of grease dripping out of it that made the burrito really bad. The chicken torta had the same issues. So, I'm done. I traveled from Whiting to Dyer for the barbacoa and never again! I paid over $40 for 3lbs of I don't know what??? I had to look it up and what they gave me was scrape, something you would give a dog! It was disgusting! I got bone, parts of the lip/gums and slimy gray stuff. Sunday 6-8-25. Tried calling around 12:00 PM 4 times. No answer. Swung by at 12:20 PM. Doors locked but someone inside. Knocked but no one answered. Door sign says opens at 10:00 AM. Walking back to car two other cars pulled up. I told them they were closed - which they found surprising. We all drove to Taco Pro's. Never been there but the food was really good. Ok!! Finally found some decent Mexican food in Indiana! I'm a Texan at heart and love me some Mexican food! But I have to admit I've been disappointed lately and having some serious withdrawals without my favorite dishes! But this place has it down! I was in the area and was checking out places to eat and came across this place which seemed to look good. The one thing I liked right away was the big specials board right next to the counter. Opted for my usual taco dinner. The first thing I noticed that the beans were very watery, maybe that is why they gave me a spoon instead of a fork. The tacos tasted okay, but a couple things made them kind of off setting. The corn tortillas were very dry, the cheese was very cold making the tacos cold themselves, and they use cubed tomatoes and there was only a couple of small pieces on the tacos. The only good things are that they have fountain self serve soda and that they take credit cards. read more

Ordered three (3) tacos of which two (2) were chorizo, cilantro and onions and the other was steak on flour tortillas. The chorizo was burnt. The tacos lacked spice and flavor. They were freshly made and were cool temperature -wise. Rancho Grande was cold inside, no warmth. Some stupid TV show was on instead of Spanish music to add to some semblance of atmosphere. We enjoy the food here but our last carry out I wanted to address the issues we had. I ordered two burritos and was told they had rice and beans on them. When we got home they had neither, as well as the steak didn't have sour cream. With two small children and the travel distance, we decided to just eat what we had and just give them a ring to let them know the issues. (Not looking for anything free) just a bit frustrated. I told the gentleman who answered the issues, and the only reply was "alright." The food is pretty good here but a lot better at other local places, and with the stellar service we received, I have to say we will never eat here again. I know this is kind of a 'chain' (there's one over in Highland on 41) but I have to say I really like the food! The tacos, the elotes, the tostadas... they're all gooooooood. My husband and I pick up the food regularly and often will buy quite a lot of it to feed our friends when they come over. You can eat there but it's not really a "restaurant" so we've always done take-out. My only three complaints are as follows: - The burrito bowls aren't great. Really, Chipotle is much better. - The take-home tamales: they sit out all day. There is cheese and meat in there and they sit out ALL DAY. On the counter. And the next day they're still there. That worries me. I've gotten them before and sadly, they often confuse the tamales and put the wrong ones in the wrong packages and mix them incorrectly. I purchased peppers and cheese and the first one was great. The second one... I bit into a hunk of chicken. NOT OKAY. I don't eat meat but at least I'm not allergic. I imagine this could be quite a lawsuit for someone if they purchased a pre-packaged dozen tamales and they contained the wrong ingredients just because they "got confused" when packaging. When I called they said "it happens". That's not really okay - it shouldn't just "happen". - On the same note as my second point... if you ask for "no tomatoes", you may get tomatoes. If you ask for "No meat" you may get meat. They don't really listen (or don't really care?) if you ask to add or eliminate something so CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE. I'd say mine is incorrect about 30% of the time. If it IS wrong, they're quick to fix the mistake so as long as you check your food, you be all good! :) read more

I'm surprised that there are so many negative reviews of this place. It's kind of a "chain" and it's definitely more comfortable to carry-out than to eat there, but overall the food is pretty good. I've eaten here at least 20 times - always carryout. The employees are nice and the food is good. It's not "fast food Mexican" - it's more authentic than that. The elotes are excellent. :) The only problem is sometimes, they will screw up orders. If you say "no tomatoes", you might get tomatoes. If you ask for onions, they may forget. Waited 30 min on hold on the phone (I only waited because I was driving so I had time) I literally drove to the restaurant thinking they must be packed, I'll just order there, I get there and to my surprise there is only one patron in line to order the place was empty!!!! There was no excuse to have me hold on the phone that long, once I get to the front I asked, hanging up and ordering here is probably faster right!? The lady had the nerve to tell me to hold on, not even said sorry nothing! Turned around and gave me her back. Phoned ahead and ordered three steak burritos with everything for pick up. When we opened our burritos at home- nothing but meat and some cheese. No beans No rice No tomato No lettuce We called back and explained the order was lacking and the response was indifferent, at best. This place has been good quality, delicious food- but now it appears they are indiscriminately tossing food in a bag for take out orders. Prices are higher and burrito size is significantly smaller. Came here expecting authentic Mexican food, but left with a disappointed belly and shattered hopes. Steak burrito was a little on the small side in comparison to other places (Burrito Station, El Burrito Loco). It was sub-par: they loaded the sour cream, the tortilla left a puddle of oil from the meat when I bit into it, and no rice inside. Also, no complementary chips and salsa here, although they do have rojo and salsa verde in squirt bottles on the table. Ordered 2 pork tamales to go (since they ran out of Barbacoa) and they were very small. The pork was good, few chunks dispersed throughout, but the 2 were slim enough to make 1 tamale! They also had a chest fridge near the counter that contained fruit Popsicles, but one could tell they have been sitting there awhile. The pros, on the other hand, is that it's next to a Speedway where you can gas up for cheap, and it really is clean inside of the restaurant. Bathrooms are presentable as well. Service was on point and friendly. I would give this place another chance if I were to get gas there, but might opt for another Mex place in the area. read more

Watch your bill, they always over charge me for stuff that is included in my order. The price of food recently was increased and is way over priced for what you get. This is a taco shop, not a sit down restaurant. When my food is ready I have to always check it before I leave because it's never what I paid for. I order from this place a lot. I work down the street at a doctors office. We all love it and normally don't have an issue. Today was a horrible service. I tried to order barbacoa tacos but, was told they ran out of that meat. Ok, so I changed my meat to carnitas. I proceeded with my order, I wanted a #6 with 2 carnita tacos and a chorizo for my third taco. She (cashier who took my phone order) states I can not mix my meats on meals. I asked since when? We all have mixed our meats. So I ordered everything separate, my tacos, my side of rice, my side of beans and my side of guacamole because this is what I wanted. More expensive but I got what wanted so, I get back to my job and guess what? NO side of my Rice! I called to speak to the manager? she said he not there and what's the problem. I proceeded to tell her why I was so upset. She said ok well we can give you the rice next time. I was like that does me no good now. I have side of beans with no rice. smh I asked when the manager would be in and she said sometime today but not know specific time. I told her I would call back. Again normally don't have issues and foods always great. But today that cashier was rude and difficult. Food is mediocre at best--except for the chips and pico which are my favorite around. Unfortunately, the other stuff just isn't very good. In addition, the real reason behind my giving them such a low rating is the fact that they close before their hours indicate and have done so multiple times. I showed up at 11:15 to this place, which supposedly closes at midnight only to see the doors locked and chairs up on the tables. When I knocked because they were inside cleaning, the man gestured they were closed by shaking his hand no and pointing to his watch (which should have been reset if it showed him midnight a full 45 minutes before). Honestly, the food and service are typically around a 3.5 to maybe even 4, but this was such an agitating experience that I'd rather not go back and simply make the drive to another nearby Mexican restaurant. read more
