I visited Tacos & Co for my second and most likely last time yesterday. I've only been here twice, but the food has been disappointing both times i've been. The first time I came here, I ordered a carne asada burrito. The burrito itself wasn't bad, but it was one of the skinniest carne asada burritos i've ever seen. Aren't they supposed to be loaded with meat and guac? Maybe living in San Diego has spoiled me, but this burrito just didn't cut it for me. Last night I decided to give this place a try again because I had heard of their happy hour food specials and was trying to save some money. I ordered two of the mini quesadillas, a carne asada taco, and a side of guacamole. The quesadillas were okay, maybe a little too crispy for my liking though. The meat in the carne asada taco was a little dry as well. I was very excited about the large side of guacamole that I got for only $1, but it turned out that there wasn't much guacamole in it at all because about half of the container was taken up by a large underripe chunk of avocado that wasn't even edible. I guess the good news is that my food total came out to only about $4.50, but at the same time it was so little food in comparison to what you can get at Albatros or Alejandros for the same price. A $4.50 burrito at Albatros has probably twice the amount of food I got from my $4.50 meal at Tacos & Co. On a positive note, I've eaten Tacos & Co before when it's been catered for different events, and it's been okay then (probably because I didn't have to pay for it). When you factor in the value you're getting for your money in comparison to the average quality of the food, it just isn't worth it. There are too many alternative places to get good Mexican food within a 10-15 minute drive to justify eating here. read more

I would not recommend this place. The food is average at best. My al pastor wasn't very flavorful and my food wasn't worth the $11 I paid for it. After ordering I looked over at the assembly station and noticed that the lettuce was brown. So I quickly asked what came on my tacos and asked for no lettuce. The bathroom was gross. I've seen cleaner gas station bathrooms. And I hate it when places have keys for unisex bathrooms, because honestly, some people are disgusting and don't wash their hands. The food here is pretty darn good, and you can't beat the 50% off for college students/faculty/staff on Tue/Thur. However, I would have to say the burritos are sub-par. Kinda small, and relatively flavorless compared to other Mexican places. That was cause for one less star rating. The other star drops off because of some random rules and stipulations that they impose on certain deals. Occasionally they will change the rules for the 50% off and exclude certain items for no apparent reason at all. There are some really nice and helpful employees that work there, but there are also a couple that seem to not understand that the customer is always right, and they need to do whatever it takes to keep customers happy. I didn't ask for anything outrageous, and I was met with a stubborn refusal to honor my request. Not a smart thing to do at a Mexican food place in Orange County. There are too many other options to mess up even once. All-in-all, I would recommend this place on Tue/Thur, and for their excellently priced happy hour. This place is okay in a pinch. It's one of those places that you almost can't go wrong but you'll never be blown away. I have been going there for years but it never gets any better. Mind you, it doesn't get worse but the food is kind of a hit and miss. I can't believe this spot only has 3 stars. It was amazing!!!! We stumbled upon it while visiting Long Beach and were so impressed with such great food. The Asada Fries were so much better than typical nachos. The tacos (several veg options) had homemade corn tortillas and plentiful fillings. All you can drink mimosas for $15?!?! WHAT A DEAL!!! This place is alright. Not the best mexican food I've tasted but certainly the best for Irvine area and also helps that price is cheap. Try to get your food without the melted cheese on top. To me, it tastes better without it. ALSO, try to NOT go when its busy (so avoid fundraiser nights, taco tuesday or some game night.) You will end up waiting about 30mins for your chicken tacos and at the end they'll mess up your order. To make it worse the lady that helps you is very nice and its hard telling her "This isn't my food" when she's got about 20 other people in line. Just ate there for the second time and both times great service and great food. Lots of salsa choices and even a roasted pepper that was hot YUM. I have the combination that was a great deal just like a Mexican restaurant with take out prices NICE... And please Yelpers if you write that the food was good put 4 stars not 3 because 3 is average to bad. read more

This place is really good, inexpensive, and it has a dog friendly patio! My Husband and I have been here several times now. We've brought friends as well and no one has been disappointed. Their burritos are sizable, their horchata's good and their food is tasty. I don't think have crunchy tacos and that makes me sad, but this is a fine establishment and it has a lovely front patio where you can sit with your dog. Delicious! ---Edit: I lied! Not the home of the best burritos but it will do. I usually get the groupon deal and end up with a lot of food but it's worth it if you save it for the next day or sell it to your roommate at full price loool jk. The service is pretty good. Sometimes I get someone who's English isn't all that great but their warm smiles make up for it. The meat in three tacos are pretty good. The carne asada was probably my favorite. The tacos were pretty small too. Taco Tuesday ($1.50/taco) deals are only 3pm-6pm. Service is nice and fast. You get a handful of tortilla strips that you can pair with the salsa and spaces in the bar. The ambiance feels a little old and outdated. Felt like I wasn't in Irvine. Honestly I don't really understand all the bad reviews... I would have given it 4 stars if the place was cheaper or if the portions were bigger. The worker there was extremely nice (I think he was probably the manager). But he wasn't just nice in the way that managers usually are to their customers because they don't want to look bad.. the guy at Tacos & Co was REALLY genuinely friendly and we had a fun conversation with him. They put together your plate right in front of you so you can see what they're adding to it and make sure you got what you want. I got a Burrito Los Cabos with carnitas and the meat was pretty good. The carnitas were soft, shredded apart so nicely, and had a nice flavor. The hotest salsa they had was sooooo good. It was a darker color and had a smokey flavor, so I'm guessing chipotle? But if it's supposed to be their hottest salsa it definitely could be a LOT hotter, but I still think the flavor of it was really good. Their salsa verde was pretty good too. It actually had a lot of spice in it (unlike the salsa verde at most places) and still had the yummy tomatillo taste. Honestly, the place was OK, but just ok. I had two carne asada tacos on corn tortillas. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't GREAT either. I don't understand all the negative reviews either... I wanted to try their fish tacos, but they had run out of fish, and it was only 3pm on a Saturday. Maybe their fish tacos are really good?? Anyway, the staff was very friendly. They give you big portions, and the salsa bar was pretty good. It's right next to Wholesome Choice Market and Ace Hardware and Rite Aid, so the location is pretty good and convenient. I probably WOULD go back their if I was craving tacos, being that it is close to where I live. They weren't that bad. I don't think their tacos were bland at all, but they weren't exploding with flavor either. They were average tacos you know. Rubio's steak tacos, in my opinion, are BLAND. I've been here 2 times with my family....great service for a quick serve place...very friendly. Loved the salsa bar, 4 or 5 different kinds as well as diced onions and grilled jalapenos. After our cold burrito experience at the Irvine Center Drive location, we thought we would try a different location and use our gift card there. We both ordered Burrito Gordos, one chicken and one carne asada. Fortunately, the burritos were not cold, but the meat was only warm. The place was on the older side, but it was clean. The problem being, that you could smell the bleach/cleaning supplies residue. I would almost rather deal with the smell of old cooking grease then bleach. Service was standard, the seating and tables have a little wear and tear. But I was disappointed with my shrimp burrito, they over cooked the shrimp to the point where some of the shrimp were brunt. I ordered a Med drink and the cashier gives me a small white Styrofoam cup. I even asked to double check that this was a Med and she said yes. I won't be coming back. read more

I went here with my friend the other day for lunch. I had a chicken taquitos and it was A-ok. Salsas were a variety and were A-ok. The roasted jalapenos in the salsa bar was EXTREMELY HOT WARNING! I had the chips on the side w drink for extra price. The chips were amazing to me (that day). I dont know, I was mesmerized by them, and had to get a refill of chips, and spent another 10 minutes eating them while my friend looked at me strangely and waiting for me to finish, but I had to finish those greasy thickly sliced tortilla chips in salsa. A very cozy Mexican restaurant. I absolutely love their shrimp taco. It might look a bit small when you first get it, but it is SUPER filling. There's actually lots of shrimp too, unlike some other tacos you might get where you only get like 2, 3 shrimps. I also really like their different kinds of burritos. I usually ask for breakfast burrito with egg, chicken, etc....even if it's at night. Tacos n Co also offers a lot of discounts to the students in the area, which is nice. They also have DAILY happy hour from 3-6PM with $1 Taco, such a great deal if you eat dinner a bit early. Tuesday nights are also college night, which I think means more discount if you have a student ID. All the staff is really nice too and the owner is ESPECIALLY nice. Been here twice. Once before grocery shopping at the nearby store and Sprouts, decided to grab a quick bite to eat. Having only 15 minutes to go until the happy hour (where it's one dollar per taco, quesadilla and other things that I forgot from 3-5pm any day ) I waited. Not only was the service pretty quick (and friendly), but the tacos were great. +Highly recommend Al Pastor and Carne Asada. Or the Los Cabos burrito with Al Pastor And their salsas. I recommend the spicy red one. It's really good. And they also have "Sangria"! Add a few drops of lemon into it and it's a really delicious drink when cold to go along with your tacos (though unless if you live in an ethnic neighborhood, this drink can be found at a cheaper price) For being in Irvine, this is a good place that satisfies my "Mexican food" cravings- surely it's no Picoso, but if you choose Carne Asada or Al Pastor, you can't really go wrong. I see some reviews saying this isn't good tacos- well, these are pretty good Mexican tacos. I think others have been white-washed saying Chipotle, Rubio's, or Wahoo's is Mexican food (Wahoo's is pretty good but not Mexican, more like delicious surfer food). First of all, I called in the order while I was sitting out front of the establishment. I told the lady I had small kids in the car and I didn't want to leave them alone. She said she would be out in 10 minutes. After 20 minutes I finally went in the get my order. The food was AWEFUL! For the price the servings were skimpy. This place tends to have some decent stuff, I've never had a problem with the workers but it's the quality of the food that's the problem. Everything is junk for the most part, and don't bother taking this food home because I swear this stuff has the ability to sweat and become a soggy mess that is often tossed in the trash. We hired Tacos and Co on several occasions to do parties for our company. They are professional, fair-priced, and the food is great. They showed up a bit early for each event and set the spread out perfectly. I have also gone into several of their restaurants with my friends and the food is very good. I'm very disappointed and actually should get a refund but I'm very hesitant to even step back foot inside this establishment. It was supposed to be taco Tuesday and I tried to order a crunchy potato taco which they had advertised. They stated they had no more so I got chicken and shredded beef upon receiving my order it was a street taco and not a crunchy taco I informed the people at the counter and they said they would change my order. My order was not changed they took the meat that was in originally in the wrong shell and dumped it in a soggy taco shell which was supposed to be crispy. I asked was the taco deep-fried and they said yes yet what I have is clearly not deep-fried but a premade crunchy taco shell I also never got shredded beef they gave me the Kearny Asada out of the previous order that they had made incorrectly. Not as much of a fan on today's happy hour visit. Part was my own fault: never expect a crispy taco to stay crisp on the drive home if you've ordered it to go. That being said, the tortilla was probably purchased pre fried which immediately makes a taco lose major points. The carnitas was ok, but not much flavor. This place wasn't around for a while, and I've heard it was because of renovation, while a neighboring worker at the Ace Hardware told me the place had fire damage. No matter what the issue was, this place has made some improvements. We had lunch there on Monday and my co-workers loved the place. I enjoy it just fine, it's a great place to get food at a good price. It's not the fanciest of places but it's good if you're looking to score some Mexican food and you're in the area.
