Portions are small, hard shell tacos are classic hard shells that you'd find in a grocery store, and there simply was no ambience that made you feel welcomed. Service was quick and friendly. They don't seem to have good hygiene when making the food (hand cleanliness, utensil cleanliness, and food cleanliness), as I watched the person who made the food walk around and touch a bunch of things that seemed unclean before cooking (and not replacing the gloves or washing his hands) and food was scattered all over the place. The amount of meat in the tacos was really minimal and left a lot to be desired. It wasn't worth the price for the two tacos (way overpriced for the quality), especially as I was still hungry after. Came with a friend who loves the fish tacos here. She was delighted with her tacos, as she usually is. I ordered a Cancun burrito with black beans , chicken and cheese. The gal asked me if I want the guacamole inside and I said it doesn't come with guacamole and she said yes. So I said on the side because I don't eat it. My burrito came out as a gordito instead and I said it was supposed to be Cancun with black beans chicken and cheese. I asked if it comes with pico de gallo and was told yes. The pico wasn't there and never showed up. Disappointing! Sister got a vegetarian burrito. It had black beans and rice and no vegetables other than that. So she was disappointed. We averaged our ratings over the 3 dishes to 3 stars. I stopped by Tacos and Co (located in the Wholsome Choice shopping center) for a quick lunch with a co-worker. The menu consists of about every Mexican dish there is out there. I decided to go with the chicken fajitas. Chicken Fajitas ($13) - This came with a few strips of grilled chicken and a lot of grilled veggies. Rice, black beans, salad and tortillas completed the meal. Some guacamole and watered down sour cream were included as well. Unfortunately it took 20 minutes for my order to be prepared and several people that came after me received their order before me. While the portion was large, the amount of chicken included was on the smaller side and tasted just ok. It was tender but flavorless. My co-workers chicken fajitas included vegetables that weren't cooked at all for some odd reason, even though it took his order over 20 minutes to be prepared. So he didn't even bother to eat them. Overall, I was disappointed in the time that it took for the meal to be prepared, and the chicken fajitas were just ok, except for my co-workers uncooked veggies. I grew up coming here throughout high school and came here again recently, and I can confidently say that it still slaps!! Not the most amazing Mexican food in the world but they use fresh ingredients and it's flavorful. I love the tacos, both the California Tacos and the Tacos Grandissimo. They used to be much more generous with the amount of chips but I see that they were a bit skimpy this time around. I think it's interesting that the chips are colored now, not sure if that's natural. Some other notable things on the menu are the Quesadillas and Taquitos. Really hoping to leave a good review, this is my comfort food, but I had a carne asada burrito today and had to spit out almost half because it was like beef jerky in a burrito. I'm usually a fan of the verde salsa but for some reason that day it was especially bitter Los cabos with al pastor - the ingredients were not spread out evenly. The 3 stars on Yelp for Tacos & Co. doesn't do it any justice. It deserves 5... I am a hard core fan of tacos (or Mexican food in general) and this is the only great place to get authentic Mexican food in OC. Service is great- staff is nice and friendly. They cook your food instantly and right in front of you so you know it's fresh. Menu is vast- they have literally everything and combination plates make it easy for you to try multiple things. Chicken taquitos, asada and chicken tacos, burritos el gordo, and the nachos are perhaps my go to favorites at Tacos & Co. And can I say prices are totally worth it- like $6 for an authentic burrito that'll leave you full and satisfied is pleasing to me. Just think about Chipotle being like $8 and not authentic. Fresh salsa bar, all their salsas are amazing, they have cilantro and onions as well. Don't forget to try their Horchata! It just completes the meal and raises it to a whole other level. I lived in University Park for just over a year. Tacos & Co was one of my favorite parts of the area. It was nice to have a local joint for quick, dependable, late night Mexican food. Their gordo burrito is worth it for the quantity and size. And I was a big fan of their happy hour (tacos and small enchiladas for $1.50 each). The staff is friendly and I loved the casualness compared to other businesses in Irvine which can feel sterile and unwelcoming. I suppose there is a reason I eventually moved to Orange. First off for the price it was really small and full of grease non stop dripping I only ate half the meat was old and shredding that's not how Carne asada should be.I see all these good reviews and I think man how bad is it up here that people think this is a good taco shop. The restaurant was mainly clean and the staff was polite. I've given one star for each of those things. With that said, the price was $11 for 3 tacos. The Al-pastor was bland, the carne asade tasted like generic Taco Bell meat. The tortillas were stale and it felt like I was eating cardboard. My food was luke warm and not pleasant. Let me preface this first with how I feel about the food: I love the gordo burrito. A lot of it comes down to personal preference, but the beans, the rice, the asada; it's a damn good burrito and all I really ever want to eat. But that is only half of what makes Tacos and Co good. My problem is this place's inability to find a way to deliver its hot sauce, the other half of the equation. 50% is never a passing grade, and ordering food is no different. I have tried just about every delivery service, and I would say maybe 1 out of every 6 or 7 times, I have received even one container of the red hot sauce. I have exhausted every "additional instructions" option available, begging for this crucial part of my meal, and yet they refuse to even acknowledge it. I could understand if it costs additional money for sides of hot sauce, and I would 100% be willing to pay for it, but neither Grubhub nor UberEats has options for it on the menu. They simply refuse to give up the sauce. So where is the problem? I understand I could just drive and pick up the food myself and guarantee it, but at times I am unable to, so is it only fair I accept what is offered? Or is it indifference from the current employees? I hate to blame the staff, which I imagine works hard so it feels unfair to put the blame on them, but when I've written "PLEASE INCLUDE 3 RED HOT SAUCES" in multiple places on my order, it's hard to not assume I am being ignored on purpose. Maybe that indifference/disdain comes from the strain that using 3rd party delivery apps places on smaller restaurants, but you were not forced to use the service to provide delivery, and if you were, would you not be hurting your downline by screwing your customers out of giving them a satisfying experience? It's a lose lose, and I question the sanity of Tacos & Co management. A great man once said that "a man can be lost in the sauce", but he also said, "with no sauce, a man is lost". In this case, everyone has lost. Once again, I am sitting here, eating a great burrito with incorrect hot sauce I had to dig out of my fridge, and Tacos & Co has another review that will receive no update, even if they do make an effort to include hot sauce in the future, because sometimes the salsa-colored scarlet letter one bears is an important reminder to everyone not to forget my G.D. Was staying right up the street for around 2 weeks and saw that this place was near. Was not starving but was kind of hungry so decided to check this place out. The girl behind the counter was really nice. I got two Pork Al Pastor tacos. And to be honest I was surprised at how underwhelmed I was with them. First- the salsa selection is great and tasty. The pork in the tacos were very undercooked. I understand there aren't big risk factors with undercooked pork, but it was a bit surprising. Also the establishment was super hot inside.
