We tried the Vegan Chicken Tacos - Vegan Red Sauce enchiladas - Rice and Beans with guacamole. The Non Vegans enjoyed the Shrimp and Fish Tacos. It is never enjoyable to write a one star review, but Tacos Cancun was the most disappointing meal I've had in a long time. I chose Tacos Cancun because it has vegan options alongside non-vegan options. My fiance and I got the two taco combo plate & an additional taco to try all three vegan meat options, horchata, vegan asada nachos, Burrito with Soyrizo, & he got the non-vegan California Burrito. I'm going to write just about the vegan options: The fake chicken and beef meats and cheese (sprinkled on tacos & sauce for nacho cheese) were overwhelmingly artificial and processed. The beans & rice lacked flavor. Even with salsa, the tacos were dry. The chips were over fried (this might just be preference or preparation, but I haven't had chips that fried before). The horchata was like drinking sugar. It was creamy, but one sip was too much for me (but like the chips, this might just be my preference to have way less sweetener in horchata). The Soyrizo did have good flavor. We were hoping that maybe their non-vegan items would be better for my fiancé's sake, but he said his California Burrito was unfortunately quite dry too. There is outdoor seating available. Even with dining in, food is served on one-time use disposable plates with plastic utensils. We will not be going back to Tacos Cancun. Bummer! read more

We actually found this spot by accident while searching for something vegan--and it ended up being the highlight of our day. They were technically closed when we walked up, but we peeked inside anyway and met Tina, who was in the middle of making her own dinner. Instead of turning us away, she said we could Go ahead and have a seat. (There are only two small tables inside, with most of the seating outdoors.) It felt less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home. Tina is truly a gem--sweet, funny, and genuine. You can tell she pours her heart into the place. Parking couldn't be easier--it's directly across from a large parking lot near the beach restrooms, so no circling the block looking for a spot. Our vegan friend was beyond excited to see a menu of all vegan options. Everything is made fresh--nothing canned or pre-packaged. We tried the vegan chicken wet burrito, a traditional chicken burrito, and the shrimp tacos, and every single dish was so flavorful and satisfying. If you want great food and even better hospitality, this place is a little hidden treasure. And say 'hi' to Tina! read more

Perfect post beach bite! We stopped by this taco spot about 30 minutes before closing after a long beach day, and I'm so glad we did! Even though it was close to closing time, the staff welcomed us with the friendliest service and got our order taken care of with no rush or attitude--which we really appreciated. We ordered flautas, tacos, and burgers with fries, and everything hit the spot. The food came out quickly, fresh, and full of flavor. It was exactly what we needed after being in the sun all day--comforting, satisfying, and just plain good. I rarely ever yelp, but my experience here was terrible. First off I was charged for two burritos and clearly I asked for a burrito. Must be that tourist tax. 2nd - might of been the worse burrito I've had in my life. It tastes like those frozen burrito you get from Safeway. Typically I don't mind paying $14 a burrito but usually the burrito justifies for that price point. All and all I spent $28 for a bite of a burrito. This is exactly what vegans mean when we say we want vegan options!!! I adore this place and stop by whenever I can. Their vegan options are not just a side thought, you can basically make ANYTHING VEGAN!! They have different fake meats, vegan cheese and sour cream. My friend who isn't vegan and I both had carne asada fries and you literally couldn't tell the difference looking at our plates. The owner is the sweetest cutest thing alive, it's right on the beach and in such an amazing part of newport super close to the balboa ferry. I took my family to the beach from on a random Wednesday. I thought it was a great day to go When we go to the side of town it's hard to find good Hispanic food unless we go more to LA county. However we went to check out Tacos Cancun just being open mind. We stop by , I never got the name of the lady who greeted us and took our order :/ but she has blonde hair. But she greeted my whole family & complemented my kids every time she came out . It was a nice warm comfort environment. The food was really good me and wife and my kids loved it , THE HOMEMADE HORCHATA WAS GOOOD !! however the only thing I didn't enjoy and it's just maybe me but . As a Hispanic myself ,When I order a bean and cheese burrito, I like the beans refried and mushy that's how most beans and cheese burritos are . When I got the burrito it came with whole beans and cheese . Other than that I would come back . A Nice lunch by the ocean front and next to the pier . I mean who can beat that ? read more

I absolutely love Tacos Cancun. I'm not from the area, but on the few occasions I go to the beach and have the funds, I try my best to stop by Tacos Cancun! I've been going since 2017, and I sure hope that I wouldn't have to stop. My only issue is that as somebody who's not local, I've had trouble finding out the times that they ARE open. I've tried bringing friends and family around the evening time, around at least 2 hours before said closing time on google, yelp, and on the sign, however each time it's been closed ): . Their food is amazing, full of flavor, and good quality ingredients. On the few occasions I've gotten to introduce my friends (outside of california) to Mexi-Cali food, they've loved it! I've had wonderful conversations with the staff, and the owners/cooks do make accommodations towards your food preferences! I do hope to comeback and enjoy their food, but it would be nice to have an update on the open-closing times that are consistent and shown somewhere. *Sidenote, I do not follow any of their social media(if they have any), so this review on the opening/closing times can be a bit skewed, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated as to why it seems as though the times aren't consistent! I do understand that it's a small business, so I'll try my best to show my respect and support in anyway that I can. I hope to come back again sometime soon! read more

Great authentic food, perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sun. We got the chorizo, egg and potato burrito, a fish taco, an asada burrito added egg, and the chicken enchiladas. Their salsa is really good, too! It's a nice pit stop for food if you enjoy real Mexican food. Service was awesome. Very very good lunch today in Newport Beach. After my bike ride I stopped in Tacos Cancun and was greeted promptly by Tina the owner and she nicely invited me in for a good lunch unlike other restaurants I frequent that get angry if you dont go in to eat and drink. I ordered a chicken burrito that was amazing and a good size for a guy like me. Also ordered the guacamole that was perfectly made. They have lots of different hot sauces and salsa to choose from to. I sat outside at a table and enjoyed the scenery and cool air and talked to the owner Tina who really cares about her restaurant and what people think when they eat here. Tina is a very courteous and prompt owner that cares about the food quality. Tina is also a good person to talk to if your looking into real-estate because she is a realtor and she can answer your questions. The food and prices here are good and so is the food. read more

Listen... I'm not saying this place wasn't great because my chicken tacos were fire, and the service was fast and the hostess was nice. But about an hour or two later, my stomach started singing the Jaws theme song and it's been downhill ever since. I'm currently writing this from the toilet. Great little place right by the beach. Staff is super friendly and the chili verde burrito was fantastic. My wife who is GF & DF got pork tacos & chips w/guacamole and she raves about the guacamole and was happy with her tacos (smothered in guacamole) Probably the best part was we took everything and walked 2 mins to the beach which wasn't crowded at all and had a zillion $ view meal for less than $30. Place sucks and the guy at the register has an attitude. He also doesn't speak English well enough to run a store front. My wife ordered cheese enchiladas and they served them within 2 minutes of ordering them and the cheese was still cold, not even melted.
