Some of the most flavorful chorizzo I have ever eaten was stuffed into one of 2 tacos I ordered at this inconspicuous corner stand. Needing sustenance at 10 p.m. and not wanting a proper dinner, these tacos were the perfect pick me up - full on flavor but not at all heavy. They were dressed simply with a dollop of fresh onion (a little raw onion never hurts digestion) cilantro, spicy sauce and white soft cheese. A side of lime and a few raw radishes completed this authentic Mexican snack-er-meal. And for $5 total, everyone should be having an oral fiesta Morelos style. read more

It's difficult to find good tacos in NYC and were lucky enough to have this recommendation from a friend. CA has so many great Mexican style tacos and due to the geographic distance, I understand the difficulties in replicating it's simple yet satisfying taste. I would like to meet the creator of the burrito bowl and introduce him to the back of my hand. I'm sorry but burritos should be eaten with the hand and not with a knife and fork. What's next? Eating a hamburger with a knife and fork? I must say being handed a burrito in a tray with sauce squiggle and cheese on the outer shell of my burrito induced an irrational rage within me. This is what I call a "Reluctant 4-Star Review". These are 4-star "NYC tacos" - meaning they don't compare to Texas or the Southwest and they are NOT even in the parking lot of the ballpark of California or Mexican (as in Mexico) tacos. Unfair comparison you say? As a taco connioseur... sorry, a great taco is a great taco. Morelos is a great NYC taco and a solid taco and one worth trying. The service is great, and you really get that down home, hole-in-the-wall vibe. Do NOT come here for $20 guac, fancy amenities (there's no AC) or the like. Get over here if you want to kick back, watch some futbol and eat great food. In my mind the NYC tacos are controversial - I have yet to experience a great one and my theory is that the Northeast isn't conducive to great Mexican food. Is it the water? History? Who knows? We got pizza locked, but for tacos ... meh. (yes, I've tried tacos in Queens. Meh!) To this day, my fave NYC taco is on 2nd St and Ave A - a street meat stand. Good not great tacos. I like that they are conveniently located if you're out in the LES and they have great hours. I ordered al pastor and chicken - the al pastor had a bit of a seasoned crust to it which was neither good nor bad. The tacos were a little bit 'less is more' in terms of toppings. It's basically 24 hours. 24 HOURS TACOS you can have tacos for breakfast burritos for lunch huaraches and tlacoyos for snack and a torta for dinner I had tacos because I love tacos, but next time I want to try the tlacoyo "mexican pizza" aka tostada with beans, crema, lettuce, cotija. Sounds like suuch a good snack, mmm. The tacos are larger than LA tacos so about 3 is a meal. Of the meats, I had the lengua and al pastor (always). Lengua was one of the best that I've had, ever. Yeah, the meat wasn't fully "cleaned" (tastebuds lol) which is offputting, but the meat is so tender and seasoned very well - not overly salty or gamey, with just the right amount of beefyness. The al pastor is also good - not outstanding but better than most I have had in the city. Ask for all the salsas, onions, cilantro. The portions for both were generous and the guys were really funny making the food. The food's cheap, filling, and good quality. I will be back. Numerous times. read more

Best tacos I've ever had. Great ingredients, affordable. I refuse to eat tacos anywhere else in lower Manhattan.

I ordered a burrito with carnitas today. The cook asked my order a second time and then nodded. The protein in this burrito was horrifying. It was mostly cubes of fat. There was some muscle in there, of a gray and slightly yellowish color that tasted pretty gamey. There was also clearly some other animal parts mixed in, possibly of an intestinal origin but maybe connective tissue (I was a bio major). I'm not sure if this was pig or not but I couldn't get any of it down. I want to like, support, and recommend this business. The burrito was huge and topped with a nice squirt of "crema" and grated cheese. All the other filling ingredients were great. I've liked what I've had in the past from them; it must've always been chicken. Stick to the chicken. read more

I walk by this taco stand on my way home from work and stop about once a week. Fast, friendly service and absolutely the best burrito around. Their veggie burrito is stuffed with rice, beans, lettuce, cojito cheese, and lots of yummy goodness. There are many, many Mexican joints on LES/E village, but this cart is still my fave. read more

Came here around 2am one night and ordered the al pastor bowl. It came out quick and the food was delicious. I ordered it with "everything" and the bowl had sour cream, beans, and cheese. Al pastor also comes with pineapple! I will definitely be back next time to try their tacos. read more

This cart makes the best tacos I've had in Manhattan. I've tried Taqueria LES, Pinche Taqueria, and others, and none of them compare to Tacos Morelos. The tacos here are on par with the taco trucks I used to eat at in southern New Mexico. So far I've had bistec, al pastor, barbacoa, and pollo tacos from here. The al pastor and pollo are the best - the bistec meat can be a little dry sometimes. But everything here's good. They give you two tortillas per taco with plenty of lime and sliced radish, and they are generous with the salsa. Despite being open late into the night things taste surprisingly fresh and I've never had an overly oily or dry tortilla here like at other NYC taco joints. read more

This taco truck is my savior. Many a night I give up on making food, walk down the street, and get my usual (dos al pastor tacos with everything please). The guys who run the truck are crazy friendly and remember a face. The tacos themselves are tasty as hell and filling. Street tacos at their best, esp in NYC where the selection isn't always appetizing. Stopped here since I was over on Ave A and was super-hungry. I have been craving tacos lately, and remembered reading about this little taco stand. When I arrived there was no line, I ordered un taco al pastor con todo and got a water too since it was 90+ degrees out. The guy who was manning the cart was very friendly. A minute later he handed me a lovely little taco with 2 corn tortillas, pastor, onions, guacamole, cilantro, a little hot sauce, and of course, sliced radishes and a lime wedge. I was very excited - I almost just ate it right there on the sidewalk. My dilemma was that I wanted to sit down and enjoy my food, but I don't live around there. I decided to walk over to the little park by the corner of Houston and 1st Ave, and hope that there wasn't anyone crazy there who would ruin my taco experience. So, I walked in the heat for 2 blocks with my taco in hand, that's right, with my taco fully exposed to all those around me, to finally take a seat on a dirty park bench and enjoy my food, while being serenaded by an old bearded hippie playing a wooden recorder. The nopales with onion are also a good choice. I don't come across many Mexican places that serve nopales, so I was pleasantly surprised by that. The tortillas are very thick and pillow-y, great for soaking up booze, sure, and make two of these a satisfying meal for the princely sum of $5, but despite a good hit of fresh cilantro the fillings of the chorizo and carnitas tacos tasted pretty similar and both are a little too finely textured and soupy.
