Ordered a chicken wet burrito with Chile Verde sauce. Got a chicken burrito smothered in sour cream and guacamole. The chicken was cooked in a red sauce. Again, everything was bland. Absolutely no flavor. Ordered chicken and carne asada nachos and, you guessed it. BLAND. We ordered all this food and were given no utensils or napkins. Poor quality they've gone downhill. We've been coming for years. We had ordered two wet burritos one with no beans made with asada to go, what we received was two regular asada burritos. It's car show weekend and they were busy so we were just going to eat them no complaints. When we went to eat the burritos they were unmarked even though one was supposed to be no beans. Hmmm. Well those burritos were Literally just rice and asada. Nothing else but tortilla rice and meat. To top it off they were wrapped so poorly one burrito fell apart. Try Tacos El Viejon instead. Nothing against the establishment. They were friendly, the Inside was not the cleanest, which is totally fine because that usually means the food is gonna be great. I'm Hispanic, so I guess my expectations were higher than most.... All I wanted was a few good 'ol tacos. The pollo and carne asada tacos I got weren't the greatest tasting. The chili/salsa on the tacos smelled alittle funky and wasn't good. My wife got a plain bean & cheese burrito and she couldn't even eat 1/3 of it. Food wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't great! I live in San Diego and eat Mexican food on an everyday or every other day basis... you could say I have a little experience eating carne asada. I consider the holy grail of carne asada tacos to be from Tacos El Yaqui in Rosarito. If you know, ya know. Nothing else compares! Tacos De Mexico serves street style tacos and cost $2.50 each... ouch. Meat was dry, but somewhat flavorful. Also had a carne asada burrito. It came with a TON of rice and some beans. Seemed like a rice and bean burrito with a side of carne asada. Carne asada chunks were few and far between. I really wanted to like this place, but it was a little disappointing. Wow!!! I have worked with the most successful latin bands in the world and eaten Mexican food everywhere!! It's my favorite. Everyplace seems to close early in Morro Bay (we don't live there) and my wife and I were starving. We saw the lights on so we stopped in. They close at 9:00 and and it was 9:01 or 02! My wife asked if we could still order and the girl behind the counter said it would be ok. Her name was Liz and she was great! She took our order and when it was ready she asked if it was to go or if we wanted to eat here. Being in a hotel we said there. I got a wet carnitas burrito and my wife ordered the Chile Relleno one. My pork was the most tender and "perfectly" cooked carnitas I have had in years. It was actually "better" than a high end restaurant and we both loved the sauce. We were the last customers they had and they couldn't have been more accommodating. I met the owner and raved about the food and asked if if there are others. She said a few, it's a family chain BUT, the next day we were in Atascadero and my sister said there is one here also and since we liked the food so much we decided to go have it again. It was not even close to the same as the Morro Bay location. My wife, sister and I all all agreed that it was 3 out of 5. Hats off to Morro Bay. We WILL be back. read more

As someone that grew up in the Bay Area eating burritos from the Mission and then moving down to LA and discovering El Taurino, King Taco, Mariela's, and Rincon Taurino amongst a plethora of other authentic taquerias; I consider myself a connoisseur of street tacos and carne asada burritos. I'm talking only meat, onions, cilantro, and some hot sauce on the tacos and throw in some arroz and frijoles if it's a burrito. None of that sour cream, cheese, fries, or that nonsense (although I can also appreciate a good Cali burrito!). Drove past Tacos De Mexico during our weekend in Morro Bay and I saw a line out the door. Curious, I pulled it up on my Yelp app and based on the reviews, I knew I had to try it for myself. We stopped by on a Saturday evening and ordered some carne asada and chicken (for the husband) tacos, along with a half order of chicken nachos (again, for the husband) to take back to our hotel. Pros: - Food was good. Wasn't great, certainly wasn't better than any of the taquerias mentioned above. But it did the job and the hot sauce was good. Carne asada didn't have any gristle and the meat piled on the tacos is very generous. Chicken was the pulled kind and that was also okay. - Service was super friendly and efficient. - Horchata was great and they have crushed ice - woo! Cons: - Not worth waiting in (a long) line for at all, in my opinion. - Tortilla chips were really bland. Even with cheese and chicken on it :/ If I were back in the area, I would be open to going back and trying other things on the menu. This place was awesome. We were staying in a hotel about a block away. We get there the place is kinda crowded but that's a good thing. We ordered 12 asada tacos, beans and rice, chips and guac. They were so delicious. Top five I've ever had. The service was great. The awesome girl behind the counter taking our order was great. Very energetic and attentive. It was not the greatest but for what we paid it was a good deal. It's average Mexican food. Where I live we have tons of Mexican restaurant options. In Morro Bay it's a bit more limited. Definitely an authentic Mexican shop. I ordered the tostada, which is actually in a bowl shape and same texture as a fluffy flauta. I had chicken with mine and it was so delicious. On the bottom is rice, then lettuce, cheese, guacamole and seasoned chicken. My hub had an Al Pastor burrito that he devoured (clearly also delish). I was wandering the streets and saw a line of people waiting for Tacos De Mexico and that is generally a big neon sign for me to go in and see what the fuss is all about. The food was good, we got chicken & carne asada tacos plus chips and salsa. The atmosphere was nice and the service was friendly. I enjoyed my meal, but I wouldn't say this is a must do in the area. One pet peeve of mine is when salsa is too much like tomato soup and their mild salsa was basically that. There was a bit more flavor in the medium and hot salsa we had with the chips, but I wasn't a fan of the basic flavor provided with the mild. read more

When I see an old Mexican joint like this with a sun-faded sign, I'm only hoping for three things: 1. The food tastes good 2. There's lots of it 3. It isn't expensive For a $ restaurant, this place hits all the marks: the flavors are authentic, one meal should leave you satisfied, and the prices pretty much beat all the local competition for similar offerings. I don't understand what kind of experience people are looking to get after paying $6.75 for a burrito as thick as your forearm, but for me it was enough that I detected somewhat of a smoke flavor from the carnitas and a healthy dose of tang and heat from the salsa. Was it the best I've ever had? I've hit up the top-rated $ Mexican places in the Los Angeles area, and if those places edge this place out a tiny bit in flavor, they've done it because they cost more or give less. If this place was more expensive, I might expect more of a sear on the meat, maybe a little more time spent in presentation, and perhaps more seating or a covered area for lines. But it isn't, and for what I got, It's well worth the five stars I'm giving it. The only way you're going to get more for less is if you're eating with a Mexican family--and I get the sense that a lot of people are comparing this to what they might eat when they get together with family and friends to watch fútbol or celebrate a quinceañera.
