For my 200th review, I wanted to write about some place that I love. And I love Tacos del Chino!! This is a very humble-looking place that I usually get takeout from. It's not some place you would take a business client or a snobby date. There's plenty of seating, and I've never seen this place packed (which is both good and bad, I want them to have more business!! This place rocks!!). They have a parking lot behind the building that is never full. Tacos del Chino is very cheap, and they accept credit card. I honestly think they are just better than El Taco Man in every way. Better food, cheaper food, accepts credit card, more seating, indoor seating, better salsas, etc.! Don't get me wrong, El Taco Man is still good, but Tacos del Chino is just perfect. They have the BEST Al Pastor meat I have ever tasted, and their Al Pastor burrito is the best burrito my boyfriend has ever tasted. It's so flavorful and tender. I just...can't. You must get their Al Pastor in some way, shape, or form. Start with Al Pastor tacos because they load it with meat, onions, cilantro, all the fixings, and it's just perfect. Working graveyard, I always look for late night spots other than the normal fast food chains and I'm glad I came across this place. I placed a phone order for 3 pastor mulitas and it was ready to go when I arrived. If you're looking for something rich and tasty I would highly recommend getting the pastor mulitas. The pastor on its own is already tasty, but when you throw it in the middle of some cheese and corn tortilla you got something special. The excess cheese they throw around the tortilla gets nice and crispy adding texture and just enough saltyness to leave you wanting another bite. For the uninitiated a Mulita is made by taking a corn tortilla and laying it flat. Dress said tortilla with copious amounts of meat and cheese. Then lay another tortilla on top. Yummy! While I cannot argue against the more common options for Mexican dining I can attest to the superiority of Mulitas. Please, for the sake of the children and your tongue, take my word. By the grace of god, whom I now believe in having visited Tacos Del Chino, my friend Sarah asked for her meat to be extra fried. The cooks interpreted this request to mean please fry all of our Mulitas thereby making them even more delicious. FYI the cooks speak no English. However, if you grew up in LA and cannot place your order at a Mexican restaurant in Spanish shame on you. I am language impaired, English included, and still capable. The food was beyond words delicious. It arrived piping hot and it was so good we suffered through the pain to enjoy it. The proper procedure is to lift the Mulita to your waiting mouth, take a quick bite before severely burning your fingers, then instantly drop your Mulita onto your plate. Enjoy then repeat. Let me start this off by saying I come from a Mexican family that STILL calls all cereal "corn flakes." I don't just eat Mexican food anywhere. I will literally drive my fat ass over an hour in traffic to eat tacos at my favorite hole in the wall in LA/Lincoln Heights. But I came to this place because my dad's coworker suggested it and I trust his taste. Now I feel like this is the only place we ever want to go eat at! I haven't explored their entire menu, but I have yet to be let down. Yeah, I have no idea what their actual prices are. Yeah, there are some shady characters now and again. But those burritos are worth it! Its a family joint and I'm pretty sure they just now recently started taking cards. Either way, I always stop at the ATM anyway. You never get a receipt so don't get crazy if you don't get one. Just enjoy the damn food! I love their burritos, and I often order them without meat (they already know my order, its kind of sad sometimes). Their tortas are HUGE! But do not sacrifice taste. I love the rice and beans because I can tell they make them there. The rice is what we call "chinito" and it is delicious. The beans are soupy, not fried, but still awesome. The chili is spicy, beware! Also, take a minute to let the food cool because you will burn your tongue. The food was literally JUST made. No way you'd ever get food served cold here. This is one of the few places I've been to that serves cesos. Thats brains for you non-spanish speakers. Get out of your comfort zone and try it, you'll be glad you did! If you order tripas, ask them to make it crispy for you, DELICIOUS! Pair it with a nice glass coke and you're set! The owner, the man they call "El Chino" is a little moody. Sometimes hes in a great mood, and other times... Regardless, the food is worth it. There is often a quiet young man working the front, who I think is his son, he's very pleasant and basically runs the whole damn restaurant on his own. It gets crazy busy in there so if theres a dirty table don't fret, they haven't had a chance to clean it. But as soon as it gets slow they are out there cleaning everything up. Everyone in town knows this place ever since the owner started three blocks away in a lunch catering truck down in Durfee from the present spot. The place may not look pleasant to sit down and eat, as well the area foremost some people worry about the ambiance and traffic. Their carne asada tacos has that taste of well cooked and prepared meat. Their mulitas are great. Varieties of drinks.
