So this Tacos Don location isn't at all what you expect when you pull up. In fact, you barely notice it from the road, except for some clings in the window, which if you miss you may end up at the empty building next door with Tacos Don Fransisco painted on the outdoor wall. When you walk in, it's an odd setup, there's double doors to pass through creating a patio like setup on the outside portion with a few tables and chairs. When you enter the actual establishment, you may be surprised to be walking into a little Mexican Bodega. For the tacos, head all the way to the back by the deli counter. Once you get close you'll see the menu overhead. I ate late night, and it was fast, hot, and as good as the regular restaurant. They seem to be setup more for a to-go operation so it's a perfect late night door dash, especially since this location is 24 hours. The one thing I wasn't keen on was being overcharged. I ordered a burrito, which is cheaper on the menu than the three tacos special that i got charged for. I pointed it out and the gentleman who rang me up insisted it was right, even tho it clearly said tacos and did not match the poster burrito price. It was only a few cents and i was too tired/hungry to argue so I let it slide this time, but paying what is marked is one of my biggest pet peeves. read more

Seldom do I write a review for a bad restaurant. That is because I perform due diligence and carefully vet the experiences posted by reviewers. Eighty-five present of the time the summary of the review ratings captures the true experience of the restaurant. If it is rated bad, I stay away. It has been a reliable process, considering all reviews are subjective. But this time....All you all tricked ol' Spike. That wasn't nice....... I could very easily summarize the experience with a short and fiery, stream of graphic expletives, that would leave no question in your mind about how I felt about Tacos Don Francisco's restaurant. However, I am certain it would only end up on the back page under "Other reviews not recommended." So, I will offer a civil and accurate transcription of the experience. Maybe it will survive the discretion of the website moderators and be available to warn others. If you are reading this...IT DID! First, we were going to try Tacos Don Francisco's on 11th street. I rattled the locked door and then cupped my hands around my eyes to peer through the dirty, smudged window to see a lady waving me away. It was closed. Back in the car and on to the 21st street location. A little information. Francisco confirmed that he owns both locations. His son operates the 11th St. store. I asked. Deep breath here. For a good reason. We opened the door at Tacos Don Francisco's on 21st St. to a smell I have not experienced for years. Cigarette Smoke. Should have left then! At a table was Francisco himself, cigarette in one hand, cell phone on the table, in speaker mode. He was having discussion with a lady in Spanish. Must have been damned important. My wife and I go to the counter. He comes to the counter with the phone still blaring. We try to order all the while he is continuing the conversation with the lady in Spanish. Sounded like some type of financial business. We find a booth with a wobbly table. A lady from the kitchen, delivers bowl of green salsa and stale chips in a plastic basket without any paper liner. Had the plastic basket ever been washed. Who knows? After a lengthy wait (Francisco still on the phone) two large chicken burritos with red sauce arrive. Nothing special. Fortunately, there was enough of the average green salsa to give the burritos a flavor boost. Half way through the burrito, Francisco is still on the phone and he lights up another cigarette. What little palatable flavor the meal had is now dominated by the cigarette smoke. Time to pay. I go to the counter, Francisco follows, cell phone in hand, the conversation continuing (on speaker). He types in the order on the computer to prepare a receipt and process the credit card payment, all in between exchanges with the lady on the cell phone. I am glad to be out of that freaking place. Cough. Stay away from both restaurants! To all of you that rated Tacos Don Francisco's a 1-star Mexican restaurant; you warned me, I should have paid attention, but thank you! This is our favorite place to get street tacos. They are top notch and priced right. The guacamole is always fresh and tasty. The restaurant has limited seating, but you can always call it in for pick up. Our go-to is steak tacos with everything on it, chips and guacamole and occasionally queso. Jalapeño on the side. The agua Fresca is good also. I like to get the Pepsi because it has real sugar! Yum! They also have a cool selection of candy at the counter. read more

Horrible. Enchiladas were so skinny they we're hungry... very little for the 9.00 bucks. Entree with no chips or salsa. The pork tamales were old, very little portions. I paid 18.00 total for both entrees. Ordered online for pick up..will only eat here once. Review's are bogus. Speedy Gonzales up the street double the portion with chips and salsa.. for about the same cost.. lunch even more a bargain. Keep moving if your hungry and want a real meal deal. TDF for life! Apparently there are two different businesses with the same name and they're battling to see who keeps it but I like things about both. The reason why I tend to prefer this one is mostly due to location. It's super close to my house so it's convenient for me. The employees are always super nice and the food is great. They are almost always open. My parents and I even spent Christmas Day with them. Literally the only place that was available on that holiday and it was such a special treat! They're also open until super late, like 4am! Wouldn't recommend going alone during those times....could get rowdy but you might find some live music! The acordeón player is the best. Their street tacos are great. My favorite are the chorizo ones. I would've given them 5 stars if it wasn't for their to-go orders. They're still trying to figure it out, trying different delivery vendors which makes it confusing. Before, when I called to place an order, I immediately talked to a real person in Spanish. Now there's a recording in English and the system they have to connect to the order is weird. I tried using it and when I got there to pick it up, they didn't have it ready and hadn't gotten my order. It was frustrating to have to wait since I as in a hurry. I've been to the other Tacos Don Fransisco, and from what I understand I don't believe these two are related, as strange as that is (how did they end up with the same name??). Did some takeout last night, and figured I'd try this one this time since it seemed like they had a good takeout system in place. I was right!! They were very prepared for takeout orders, particularly in terms of the whole COVID-19 situation. They made sure to have as little contact as possible, provided hand sanitizer to use before/ after signing, etc. I was also happy because for some reason I was nervous the order wouldn't be correct, or it wouldn't be ready, something g like that, but it was all there at the pickup time, and they didn't miss a single thing! I tried a chicken taco as well as a marinated pork taco. On the menu, the "2 tacos" comes with rice and beans, which I felt like was plus, especially since most places do a la cart so it was kind of like taking the next step (but just as good of a price tag)! Even though I'm more of a chicken person than anything else, I think I enjoyed the pork taco better. It seemed to have more flavor/ spices to it. The chicken was good too, and I liked the green sauce on that taco better than the reddish brown sauce on the pork. Pros and cons to both! The rice and beans were good too but nothing out of the ordinary. I added my favorite hot sauce (Valentina extra hot, for anyone who's curious) to make it even better. They also provided two lime wedges, and I did put some on my chicken taco but not the pork. Then to go with all that I got a side of chips and queso. (And now as I'm uploading pictures I realized I forgot to take some of this... argh!!!) The queso is very different from anything I've had. To be honest, it wasn't my favorite, but I shared with my family and they all said they thought it was good. Maybe not their favorite either, but not bad (and I think I feel the same). If you'd told me that it was some sort of queso inspired gravy rather than just straight up queso I'd probably believe you. It just didn't have that super cheese flavor I was wanting. To me, it tasted more sweet than anything. But, if you like sweet and super thick queso, you may be a fan... Just not for me! I liked their chips. They tasted fresh and were thin (yay) with some oiliness still on them (in a good way). They gave two types of salsa with the order. (Same as mentioned above with the tacos). The red was mild and sweeter while the green was more fresh and spicy tasting, so no surprise I liked the green better. Would go back (takeout or to dine in, when we can do that again), but maybe swap the chips and queso for something else. read more

Taco's Don is a Tulsa classic. The best place to get tacos at midnight on a Saturday evening when you've been out with your friends all night and realize you're starving and need something fast. This hole-in-the-wall joint is a must-have for anyone visiting Tulsa. Their asada and pastor is unbelievably good and their horchata is the best I've had in town. read more

I got the asada burrito no salsa and no onion. My husband got the carnitas enchiladas. My son got the chicken quesadilla. My in laws, sister and and two brother in laws all grubbed down too. This place is SLEPT ON! We are from California and the food is good compared to places like el Chico support locally and small they don't hassle you if you wear a mask or not which is great! Makes us feel safe and not like we are criminals. Great service super kind and quick for all being homemade and only one cook! read more

They have another location on 11th street but this location is not as busy. Good place if you don't want to deal with a crowd. The place does look like a hole in the wall but the food is good. The tacos were awesome! I had chicken, carnitas, and al pastor and they were all delicious. Pastor was the best and could probably just eat a bunch of those. Each taco is $1.50. They have other things on the menu but all I need is their tacos. They also have pupusas which I may try next time. My new to-go taco place and they close at midnight! Really loved it. We walked in to just order a taco plate and a sorta but seeing the selection I ended up also ordering the Roast Chicken (whole dinner) and tamales. All to go mind you. It was wonderful. I was able to share food at home and all were pleased. When most of the chicken places seem to fry things up or slather in sauce it was nice to just have a whole roast chicken that didn't come from the Costco or the Supermarket. My favorite street tacos! This place is a dumpy hole in the wall, but if you accept that, the food will not disappoint. Pretty authentic too! I don't see many places with beef cheek and tongue on the menu, but unfortunately, I'm not quite brave enough to give these a try. The chicken quesadillas are basic and delicious, but the pastor street tacos are my favorite. For the full experience, try the horchata as well. This place is also great for late night drunk snacks, a million times better than Taco Bell. They're open LATE on the weekends, but expect to get patted down and wanded. read more

This place is a great spot for street tacos. Not only is the price great, but they're just plain awesome. Nothing fancy, no frills. We joked that you're not even sure which door you should walk through to get in the place. Inside, it's spare, spartan and no frills. Not one penny wasted on decor, but that's fine, as you don't go to a place like this for the ambience. I ordered a variety of the street tacos to go, and every one of them was excellent. Avoid at all costs. I have to believe that every positive review of this place is for another location. I had a bad feeling going in, but stuck through with my order simply because of the reviews and the recommendations from friends. I absolutely regret that. First, the place was disgusting. Trays and food were left at tables for what looked to be hours, as evidenced by the swarm of flies and 2 clean tables. Second, various leftovers and preprepared items where just sitting out covered in plastic wrap. "Authentic" shouldn't mean authentic to a time before heating trays or refrigeration. Third, the food: as I mentioned earlier, the only reason I got past points one and two was the promise of delicious food. However, this deserves its own one star review. The meat tasted like it had indeed come out of those trays sitting around. It was pungent and metallic. The tortillas had that distinct 'fall apart in your hand' quality that comes only from staleness. The salsa actually made the chips taste worse. The beans tasted like they could patch drywall. The rice was drywall. Growing up in LA, I know street tacos. They were one of the first things I tried to find in Tulsa. This is not the place to go. read more

They say the more sketch the place, the better the food. This place kinda defines that. The guy at the counter was super helpful to my non-decisive friends. We ordered pollo, carne tacos and enchiladas over white sauce. We could grab chips on our own that were under a heat lamp with salsa. Another interesting thing about this place is you pay after you eat. I honestly almost forgot to pay before we left. I highly suggest if you get tacos to get carne. Pollo wasn't all that. MMMMMMM SOOOO GOOD. I had been waiting to go here for SO long because a bunch of my friends rave about it. Apparently it is even more awesome at 3am (which may be why none of them could remember where it was... 31st and Mingo? 31st and Memorial? so I ended up driving around a bit) but I had it at 9:30pm on a Monday and it was pretty darn awesome then too. I wasn't daring enough yet to try the cheek or stomach meats, but the guy working the counter suggested pastor for my enchiladas and it was delicious. Even the rice and beans were light years ahead of any other Mexican place I have tried. Granted, any reviews of Mexican food I do should be taken with a grain of salt since I just moved to OK a few months ago and previous to that spent my entire life in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, where authentic Mexican food is basically nonexistent... but whatever. Time after time I take friends here who pass over the juicy chicken, the crispy, unctuous tripas, and the unbelievably tender lengua for the monotony of carne asada. DO NOT DO THIS. Don Francisco's is a place to branch out and try something new, because you will be rewarded. My pick for the most amazing thing at this unassuming but fantastic taco joint is their quesadillas. Stuffed with a hot, rich white cheese, avocado(!) and your meat of choice, they will take the deliciousness of your chosen protein and multiply it by a thousand. As somebody who can't eat pork, I can't speak personally to the quality of their tamales and carnitas, but I've heard good things about them as well. Beans and rice are everything you would expect, except when they're stuffed into one of the Don's wonderful burritos ( for which I would recommend lengua or tripas for sure). Long story short? Go nuts at Don Francisco's and it will make you glad you did. Get a quesadilla or burrito or even a torta with a cool, exciting meat. If you really, really want a taco, that's ok too- their lengua, tripas, chicken, or carnitas can stand on their own. But don't go for the sad little carne asada tacos. It's like ordering a well-done steak, or getting a grilled cheese sandwich at the Brasserie. If you care enough about food to be reading Yelp at all, try something new here. read more

We love this place. Right in the neighborhood. Sometimes we hit it for a full sit down meal and sometimes we get tacos to go and add our own sides and chips on the back deck at home. The tacos are tasty, cheap, simple and very well made. If you are looking for El Chico Tex-Mex, this may not be the place for you. But if you want to try some great tacos and are leery of the taco truck down the street then hit up TDF for sure. Cheese enchiladas are great as well. Plenty of authentic Mexican drinks in the cooler (Jarritos, Hecho en Mexico Coca-Cola, etc) They recently translated the meats section of the menu into English so if you don't speak Spanish (90% of the dine-in customer base does) you don't have to guess wrongly and end up with a beef tongue or stomach taco! read more

As far as real Mexican food in Tulsa goes, this place is legit. The beans are cooked with lard, the meat is grilled or stewed perfectly, the rice is tasty and the tortillas are bomb. Add in that it's like $6 bucks for 3 tacos w/ rice & beans and you have a clear winner. I'm living in DC right now, and this is the first place I am going when I get back to Oklahoma. read more
