Dry unseasoned, flavorless, chicken and steak tacos is what they have. Service was bland just like the food.

Seldom do I write a review for a bad restaurant. That is because I perform due diligence and carefully vet the experiences posted by reviewers. Eighty-five present of the time the summary of the review ratings captures the true experience of the restaurant. If it is rated bad, I stay away. It has been a reliable process, considering all reviews are subjective. But this time....All you all tricked ol' Spike. That wasn't nice....... I could very easily summarize the experience with a short and fiery, stream of graphic expletives, that would leave no question in your mind about how I felt about Tacos Don Francisco's restaurant. However, I am certain it would only end up on the back page under "Other reviews not recommended." So, I will offer a civil and accurate transcription of the experience. Maybe it will survive the discretion of the website moderators and be available to warn others. If you are reading this...IT DID! First, we were going to try Tacos Don Francisco's on 11th street. I rattled the locked door and then cupped my hands around my eyes to peer through the dirty, smudged window to see a lady waving me away. It was closed. Back in the car and on to the 21st street location. A little information. Francisco confirmed that he owns both locations. His son operates the 11th St. store. I asked. Deep breath here. For a good reason. We opened the door at Tacos Don Francisco's on 21st St. to a smell I have not experienced for years. Cigarette Smoke. Should have left then! At a table was Francisco himself, cigarette in one hand, cell phone on the table, in speaker mode. He was having discussion with a lady in Spanish. Must have been damned important. My wife and I go to the counter. He comes to the counter with the phone still blaring. We try to order all the while he is continuing the conversation with the lady in Spanish. Sounded like some type of financial business. We find a booth with a wobbly table. A lady from the kitchen, delivers bowl of green salsa and stale chips in a plastic basket without any paper liner. Had the plastic basket ever been washed. Who knows? After a lengthy wait (Francisco still on the phone) two large chicken burritos with red sauce arrive. Nothing special. Fortunately, there was enough of the average green salsa to give the burritos a flavor boost. Half way through the burrito, Francisco is still on the phone and he lights up another cigarette. What little palatable flavor the meal had is now dominated by the cigarette smoke. Time to pay. I go to the counter, Francisco follows, cell phone in hand, the conversation continuing (on speaker). He types in the order on the computer to prepare a receipt and process the credit card payment, all in between exchanges with the lady on the cell phone. I am glad to be out of that freaking place. Cough. Stay away from both restaurants! To all of you that rated Tacos Don Francisco's a 1-star Mexican restaurant; you warned me, I should have paid attention, but thank you! I hope you will accept my friend request.

    Decent drinks for good price

Family owned business, very nice employees, they have a grocery store that has authentic Mexican food. They have a deli market, a meat market, and so much more to offer. They have a variety of fresh drinks that they make them out because they're really good

We got to Tulsa late so not many places were opened, we found this taco restaurant near our hotel. The el pastor tacos were very tasty. The quesadilla was also good. Great salsa ! The place looks run down though.

a plate of food with a fork

Horrible. Enchiladas were so skinny they we're hungry... very little for the 9.00 bucks. Entree with no chips or salsa. The pork tamales were old, very little portions. I paid 18.00 total for both entrees. Ordered online for pick up..will only eat here once. Review's are bogus. Speedy Gonzales up the street double the portion with chips and salsa.. for about the same cost.. lunch even more a bargain. Keep moving if your hungry and want a real meal deal. Not worth it here.

I've been to the other Tacos Don Fransisco, and from what I understand I don't believe these two are related, as strange as that is (how did they end up with the same name??). Did some takeout last night, and figured I'd try this one this time since it seemed like they had a good takeout system in place. I was right!! They were very prepared for takeout orders, particularly in terms of the whole COVID-19 situation. They made sure to have as little contact as possible, provided hand sanitizer to use before/ after signing, etc. I was also happy because for some reason I was nervous the order wouldn't be correct, or it wouldn't be ready, something g like that, but it was all there at the pickup time, and they didn't miss a single thing! I tried a chicken taco as well as a marinated pork taco. On the menu, the "2 tacos" comes with rice and beans, which I felt like was plus, especially since most places do a la cart so it was kind of like taking the next step (but just as good of a price tag)! Even though I'm more of a chicken person than anything else, I think I enjoyed the pork taco better. It seemed to have more flavor/ spices to it. The chicken was good too, and I liked the green sauce on that taco better than the reddish brown sauce on the pork. Pros and cons to both! The rice and beans were good too but nothing out of the ordinary. I added my favorite hot sauce (Valentina extra hot, for anyone who's curious) to make it even better. They also provided two lime wedges, and I did put some on my chicken taco but not the pork. Then to go with all that I got a side of chips and queso. (And now as I'm uploading pictures I realized I forgot to take some of this... argh!!!) The queso is very different from anything I've had. To be honest, it wasn't my favorite, but I shared with my family and they all said they thought it was good. Maybe not their favorite either, but not bad (and I think I feel the same). If you'd told me that it was some sort of queso inspired gravy rather than just straight up queso I'd probably believe you. It just didn't have that super cheese flavor I was wanting. To me, it tasted more sweet than anything. But, if you like sweet and super thick queso, you may be a fan... Just not for me! I liked their chips. They tasted fresh and were thin (yay) with some oiliness still on them (in a good way). They gave two types of salsa with the order. (Same as mentioned above with the tacos). The red was mild and sweeter while the green was more fresh and spicy tasting, so no surprise I liked the green better. Would go back (takeout or to dine in, when we can do that again), but maybe swap the chips and queso for something else.

Really good and would order again. Rice and beans were probably above average. My dining partner asked how the chile relleno was prepared. (He doesn't like the eggy batter.) We were literally told that it came premade and frozen and was "just fried." Obviously, he ordered the street tacos instead. We sat at the bar and it took a bit to get waited on but the manager jumped in and gave us water and silverware. I liked my Blackberry-Rosemary Marg but I honestly didn't feel like it had much tequila in it. The regular marg was just OK. Since it is a tequila bar and we sat at the bar, I would have liked to have discussed tequilas but my bad for not asking. Would have loved to have done a tasting. The menu was informative. I would go back when in south Tulsa. Not sure I would make it a destination. (Well, maybe. Those enchiladas were good! It is a cute place.

As what was stated over the phone, the moment we walked in, we were seated. The place is very intimate in space, I'd recommend for dates. I went with the Enchiladas, something I've been craving for a couple of months & La Tertulia helped that fix. There were a few meats to choose from & I went with chorizo. The wait on the food wasn't long (people were starting to fill in as well & it didn't stop the servers from being on point) & the food was really good. Coming in with 3 enchiladas, stuffed with the chorizo & the fixins, I was left full after I finished. The spanish rice & pinto beans were good as well, paired good with the enchiladas. The chorizo looked more like breakfast sausage more than the chorizo that's more on the dark brown + reddish tint I'm used too. The enchiladas also come with chiles (I picked green) & plenty of cheese. Side Note: Chips & salsa were also super good, my favorite type of salsa. Kinda like a Taquera/Molcajete style. I was so hungry that the chips & salsa didn't slow me down from running through my main entree.

The menu features many Mexican food favorites. Enchiladas, burritos, tacos and more. They're cooked well and served in large portions by a helpful server. A note - some of the dishes are plain and include a protein charge. I'm not a huge fan, but I'm okay with it if it's explained. I was confused during my visit because my enchiladas listed a $2.50 protein charge, but the protein charge was for each enchilada not the plate, so my three enchilada plate was $7.50 more than it was listed because I asked for chicken. I don't necessarily feel cheated, however I was surprised when the server gave me the bill. $2.50 is one thing. $7.50 is a lot more.

I've heard of the highly lauded 918 Maples Tacos & Cantina many times since I moved back so I finally decided to try it on August 28th, 2025. Since then, I've experienced 918 Maples on different occasions and I'd say that it deserves the high praise. I've eaten at 918 Maples atleast 4 times, twice at the food truck (4931 S Union Ave.) and twice at this location. On 8/28, I arrived around 5:50pm. The walls are filled with color & different decorations, from murals to Latin-American art as well as TV's behind the bar for entertainment. The area is very home-like, compact, with just enough space for walking lanes. There's only one booth while the rest of the seating is either tables or at the bar. The host podium is at the door immediately upon entrance, I sat at the bar. Their menus are large but not overwhelming. On Tuesdays, tacos are $2 each. This doesn't include Birria, fish or Shrimp which are $3 or $4 on Tuesdays. My server was Diego, great guy! I ordered 5 Tacos: 2 Birria, 1 chicken 1 Carne Asada and 1 El Pastor. I also ordered a Paloma and a small queso. The meal comes with chips & Salsa, brought out immediately. Their chips are thicker and their salsa is mild. Add a little salt, good to go! I'm a fan of white queso but I particularly enjoyed theirs, worth the $2. The food came out within 10mins, not long at all. Two ramekins of salsa & 4 tacos. Each taco was amazing individually. The el pastor had crispy edges on the meat, the carne asada was soft & delicate while the birria was to DIE for. Only criticism is that the chicken was a little too salty but not terrible overall. As I mentioned, I ordered 5 tacos, queso & a Paloma but only received 4 tacos. I wasn't upset about the paloma, I could do without. But, I was a little uneasy about being shorted 1 taco, especially since I paid for 5. However, I didn't fret. I paid the bill & praised the staff because they deserve it! Since then, I've returned once or twice. Each time, usually on a Tuesday, the space is decently filled which a sign of a well-run & good quality establishment and the food is just as good. I consistently ordered tacos but I would gladly try their Queso Chicken, Rustic Quesadilla, or Birria Pizza. I've had their tacos at their food truck as well and, though the ambiance isn't comparable, the service is sweeter & the food is just as good. Bummer that their food truck doesn't do discounted tacos on Tuesdays. Photos here are from 8/26/25, 9/16/25 and 1/6/26. Had it not been for the forgotten taco, this would be a FULL 5-Star review!
