Visited this restaurant on a Saturday. Parking is tight and often limited. The restaurant has a few tables and chairs but mostly booths. The customer service was good. Upon getting a booth they quickly took our order, brought us our drinks and shortly after our food. They do not offer complimentary chips and salsa like most of the restaurants in the area. The price is also a lot higher than those that do charge for it. With your taco order you get a plate of limes, pickled onions, grilled onions and grilled peppers. I ordered asada tacos and they were full of meat with cilantro and onion. They also offer dinner plates with rice and beans. The rice and beans are nothing special and could have gone without ordering them. The hot sauce options they bring out are great. We love the green but the red is just as good. They have a nice kick! I am absolutely livid. Im a regular customer here and regularly tip well over 20% and always noticed their tip jar is almost empty but I guess I found out why. I tried to give them an opportunity to make things right before coming to reviews but just left even more angry. Last time I ordered I ordered no onions and specified its due to an allergy and the onions were added anyways. Simple mistake were all human. It was what happened when I called to nicely talk about it the woman who answered hung up on me and when I called back she picked up the phone and sat it down and I speak enough Spanish to know she was in the background talking spit about me. So then I reached out via their website and was ignored. Then today I called and explained what happened and that I was willing to give them a second chance and the lady told me it would be ready in 10 minutes without apologizing to me. Then I get there 20 minutes later and my they didnt even have a receipt for my order and hadnt started on it. Still charged me full price and refused to apologize and when I pointed that out the staff literally pretended like I wasnt there or speaking and then a few minutes later they handed me my food and I once again pointed out no one apologized but you guessed it was ignored again. Im very vocal about supporting local businesses in social media and believe me all of west michigan will be hearing about all this disrespect. Wonder if theyd pass a health inspection? I gave them multiple chances and never raised my voice or anything. The empty tip jar makes way more sense. A good business would've made it right initially not hung up and ignored me and continued to treat me horrible. Huge portion, service is pretty good, probably better if you know Espanol. Food is authentic and pretty healthy depends on what you order. The only complain is they don't really refill your drink and they don't have charro beans, because I don't like refried beans. Weekend they open until 2am I think. After 3 years of living in Grand Rapids, I finally tried the infamous Tacos El Cunado! I went for a Friday lunch with my coworkers. They have a pretty good amount of seating and we pretty much could choose anywhere to sit when we got there around 12 but it definitely got much busier as our lunch went on. I like that they have the taco trio option and you are able to choose what meat you want for each taco. I got al pastor, pollo, and asada. All super tasty! There was not one I preferred more than the other. The rice and beans were good as well. The color of the beans definitely kinda scared me at first because they were basically orange but it tasted just as you'd expect refried beans to taste. Can't wait to come back here! Upon entering everyone was extremely friendly. Both guests and the people working. It felt like a family or perhaps like Cheers where everyone knows your name. It's easy to see why this place is so popular. It didn't take long for them to get insanely packed either and it was close to closing which is 11pm and not midnight. I arrived a good 30 minutes before 11pm and placed a to go order. For my meal I decided to try a few things, so that I could get a real feel for what they had to offer. This lead to two steak tacos, a steak tostada meal, and a steak burrito. The steak taco was moist and full of flavor. There was the perfect amount of spice. Although someone who is not use to authentic might be a bit skittish. The burrito was near perfection with flavor. Moist and spice with everything nice inside. The tostada was extremely flavorful, but I horrible mess. All together I would eat here again and highly recommend it. This is everyone's favorite place. The tacos are the classical GO TO. They have great seasoning for meat in the asada. I'm giving it a 4/5 stars because the torta I got had too much bread for meat ratio. It was slightly dry and underwhelming. I might order it again at another time and try again. Waiter was not nice, side onions and jalapenos were cold. When I asked my waitress she was not helpful. My wife and friends were looking forward to this place but the waitress attitude killed our mood. She told us that their Onions and Jalapenos are cooked and kept in a can for future use. They're not fresh, makes me wonder about other things. I wouldn't recommend this place. We came a few years back, and things changed. I gave them 5 stars on google but I just felt motivated to rate again. The food is perfect and quick every time. Affordable authentic Mexican food that tastes homemade. Plenty of space to sit inside where you will get served and they just re did their parking lot last year. I've been coming here for lunch almost twice a week for the last two years or so as it's on the same back road where I work. As a Mexican American these are the closest to authentic style tacos I could find. Not the best I've ever had but do a good job overall for West Michigan. You can also get your tacos American style though if you're not a fan of cilantro and onion. Salsa are nice and actually spicy. read more

This is the place to get tripa tacos!...but it's hit or miss, except when they hit, they score. It's crispy, juicy, & full of flavor. I like the pink onions they serve on the side too. Perhaps this was just a bad day as I see many good reviews..but I can say I wouldn't return here after my experience. Came here with a group of 7 on a Tuesday evening. Immediately we were confused as there is an ordering counter in front of you and then seating on the left side of you. There is no sign to tell you to Please Seat yourself, Wait to be seated, or to order at the front yourself? Another customer told us we could seat ourself. There was a long table in the middle of the building but it was covered with water...looks like water condensation dripping from their cooling system? Anyway.. we sat separately at two smaller tables. The restroom is in the back corner of the building and was VERY dirty. The trash bin was completely full (stuff in it was about double the height of the trash bin itself, with some items falling out of it) and the floor was very wet. Very dim light as well making it pretty dangerous. One of my female friends said that their bathroom was much more normal, once again -- perhaps a bad day? We were given menus immediately but the server didn't come take our order until about 15 minutes later. I ordered the steak, fish, shrimp, marinated pork, and chicken tacos to try a little bit of everything. Food came out and I was missing a steak taco. Informed the waitress and she said she would bring it out. Fish was dry, shrimp was extremely dry (most inedible out of all 5) , marinated pork was at least flavored ~ okay tasting, and the chicken was shredded and delicious. After we had finished our meal..I was just going to pay and have the taco that never came out taken off the bill. We were up and ready to pay, this was when the steak taco came out ~ guess I'd try it. Steak was tiny burnt pieces and dry (super well done), had a couple bites and left the rest of it. Soo, we love tacos el Cuñado, however, sometimes it can be a miss just depending on the day. If you want authentic Mexican tacos this is the place for you. We usually get a mixture of the single tacos. Our favorites are the pastor, chorizo, and Asada. My husband has also gotten the shrimp which he does enjoy. The tacos are small and come with cilantro and onions and are served with pickled onions and caramelized onions with limes and jalapeños. They also have two salsas, a green and red which they give you. My husband likes them, but they are both wayyy to spicy for me and I enjoy spicy foods but these are too spicy and I don't like the flavor. We usually also get the guac to start but it needs salt and a little extra lime! The reason I say it is hit or miss because depending on how busy they are the service can be slow and the tacos sometimes just don't taste right. We really do love this place but it's not a place we go for ambiance or drinks. I don't think they serve alcohol even. We LOVE this place. Although from the outside it looks a little bit sketchy, it's actually fine, and it's worth it. Every time I've ordered food from here, I've gotten take-out and different tacos and they have all been really good and completely authentic. Guy with glasses and mustache was extremely rude to my daughter (12) and yelled at her while I was grabbing napkins to get her money out quicker. She asked for 2 tacos and he gave her a tortilla with onions on it with nothing else. My absolute favorite Mexican spot. They make the best tripa and lengua tacos in town! Absolutely delicious. The onions and cilantro are always fresh, and the tortillas are never too greasy. I also love the grilled jalapeno and the spicy pickled red onions they give you on the side. Another reviewer mentioned that it's more of a take out place because the restaurant isn't the nicest, but I disagree with that. Perfectly cut, pure meat. 3: Taco size was perfect. 6-8 bites, not too much meat, but not too little. The average person would eat 3. I'm not average, I ate 6. 4: The extras here are second to none. Fried onions, fresh onions, limes, and peppers were all free. Also, the rice and beans were very very good. 5: The experience was good. I have tried the Downtown Market and the Grandville location of Tacos El Cuñado, but never the Burton St. location, and I've heard from several friends that it is the best location. When we walked in, I was excited to be a minority, being the only Caucasian group in the whole restaurant! We ordered a bean dip appetizer to snack on until the the rest of our crew showed up. It was tasty. I ordered 3 traditional-style tacos (corn tortilla, onion, and cilantro) - beef cheek (cabeza,) tripe, and marinated pork (el pastor) and they were fantastic, but the best part was the big plate of cut limes, grilled and pickled onions, and charred jalapeños. Some places are a bit to miserly with those extra condiments, but not here; we even left some on the plate when we were full. Overall, I see why this place gets great reviews - it feels authentic, the portions are great, and the staff is super helpful and friendly. This is a pretty solid Mexican joint. More of a takeout place, as the restaurant is a little jank, but the service staff are always really friendly and helpful. They're very good about vegetarian accommodations and have very delicious vegetarian options (the veggie tacos and veggie burrito are DANK A.F.!!) Very authentic and delicious food at super reasonable prices, especially considering how much food they give you. Such a great value, I really wish I lived closer. Was in a mood for tacos and this place was top rated by many. So I gave it a whirl. Not too bad. Very authentic. All served in corn shells with onions, cilantro and limes. The chicken and beef are good too. The tacos pastor are the best I've ever tried. The onions served on the side have a bit of heat to them. The menu isn't very large and they don't serve any alcohol. They do serve horchata in several varieties. Neighborhood is a tad sketchy. Located in a old dry cleaners/laundry so that may throw you off a bit. read more

Our office also appreciates that they accept multiple payments for the same order (since most of us do not carry cash, they allow multiple cards to pay on the same order which makes it easy to pay) The ladies are always so friendly!
