Wanted to try some new tacos from my next town over. Tacos El Gorrion are in front of the Target on Laurel Cyn and Osbourne. There's a slew of taco stands here but look for the red signage, bbq grill and al pastor spit. El Gorrion stands for finch, sparrow or a small type of bird. First time I went here it was late but the tacos were amazing. Meats cooked perfectly, salsa was amazing, service was really fast, cost was below your average taco spot. Second time was on point. Third time I felt like something was off. The Good. Salsa are hot, versatile and delicious. I also enjoy having pico de gallo / salsa bandera with my tacos. They make this one thats very deep in flavor and has chicken bouillon in it I swear. Really good. Try all the salsas. Marinated onion bomb. Aguas were delicious. Service was super fast and friendly. Tortilla a mano too. The Bad. There seems to be an inconsistency. I went early on a Wednesday before they opened and got in the line. Got my tacos and to return home, the tortillas were not cooked all the way?? They were like absorbing into the carne. Sometimes they run out of salsa and other items as the night goes on. Okay to start off this review let me start by saying this spot is under rated because the tacos were good and I can see why there's alot of people at the taco stand. Get yourself some $2 tacos everyday except for Wednesday they have $1 Al pastor tacos. I got to try the carne asada,Al pastor,cabeza and chicken. The chicken was my least favorite but everything else was solid. Hand made tortillas are also made here. They have a salsa and condiments table and agua Frescas. You pay after you order with the guys and then pay by the condiment table. Cash only from what I see and I'll definitely be back. First, I cannot comprehend how this place has 4.5 stars. Im only giving them stars for effort. The tortillas are freshly made( but other than that. Nothing else is fresh. The toppings are old, cilantro is dry and smelly, and onion looks like it's days old. The salsas were kept in ice. The cashier is rude, I had an order of 15 tacos, and she gave me 3 napkins! 3 napkins and she rolled her eyes. The asada and pastor are the only good somewhat tasteful meats. I also ordered chicken and it had a rancid smell. The tripa was decent. Ambiance, well it's outside in the street, really no seating area, but we ate in our car. This place is SO good & the people running it are the best. In the last two months or so they started popping up across the street from the original farmers market on 3rd. It seems like they're open Wednesday's - Saturdays until late-ish~ like 10:30/11pm at least and open around 5pm. $2.50 a taco and they're hefty little tacos with the corn tortillas made to order and generous amount of protein. Quesadilla and burritos are $11. Cash only, obviously. Their toppings and salsas/sauces are the absolute best. The red one is hot but my personal favorite. They have an avocado salsa as well that is so damn good and onions / cilantro are fresh. I look forward to eating here every time. Their pastor & asada is really a must. Carnitas is great too. They also have chicken and tripe I believe? No lengua, I don't think. If you see them open and live in/are in the area, I highly highly recommend stopping by for amazing Mexican street food. Truly an LA staple and you won't be disappointed. Also, considering the other review where they said it made them sick. I've eaten here 4-5 times now and have brought friends and my boyfriend and not once has anyone gotten sick. Great handmade tortillas tacos for $2.00 each. They are well served and can't beat the price. Quesadilla made with home made corn tortillas are delicious for only $11.00/$12.00. Only been here a few times but I loved it every time. The quesadilla with tortilla hechas a Mano are legit. Last time I went I got an all Meat Al pastor burrito with cheese and it was 10/10. Stay away from this place ate their a few times and thought they where the best out of all the other taco places next to them. Went back and got tacos of pastor and asada. But this time later in the day I started getting stomach cramps and had full blown diherria plus vomiting at the same time no joke. Food looks amazing I do feel the carne asada is to smoky and needs a little more flavor. They have lots of salsa varieties Rábanos, Pepino Cebolla nice.. Best Mexican food in the valley! There's a reason why this particular stand is always crowded among all the food vendors that are located here. Everything is well seasoned and tastes so good. I'm a big fan of their carne asada, as they grill their meat over a charcoal fire for flavor. All the salsas are really good as well. My favorite is a burrito carne asada pura carne con queso.
